COACH RELEASES EPISODE SIX OF “COACH CONVERSATIONS”

10

IWC Schaffhausen Named Greatest Place to Work

Coach releases the sixth episode of Coach Conversations, its YouTube series about culture, community and creativity, featuring Grammywinning rapper, songwriter and entrepreneur Megan Thee Stallion and radio personality and New York Times bestselling author Angie Martinez. This month’s episode is all about higher education, balancing college and career, and lessons learned inside and outside the classroom. In it, Martinez interviews Megan and learns how important college has always been to her family, how she turned her grades around after switching majors, and what she plans to do with her degree following her graduation this coming fall. “I have been in college for probably about seven years. When I finally get that degree in my hands, I’m gonna burst out crying because I can’t believe I made it,” said Megan. “It’s just gonna show me that whatever I put my mind to, I can do it.” “I think this is a really important conversation to have, because college is challenging,” said Martinez. “It’s challenging to get there, it’s challenging to afford it. So I think it’s really helpful to have these kinds of conversations and inspire people.” The episode closes out a week of initiatives tied to Coach Foundation’s Dream It Real program for the brand’s first ever Dream Week. The Dream It Real program is a global effort to help break cycles of inequality by empowering the next generation to reach their full potential through higher education. Coach Conversations episodes are released to mark such moments as Black History Month and Pride, among others.

IWC has received certification from "Great Place to Work®" for a second time. The organisation, which operates in roughly 50 countries worldwide, carries out a structured anonymous online survey to find out how happy a company's employees are. IWC improved across all categories from the last survey, carried out two years ago, with notable improvements in the areas of ‘Flexibility as an employer’, ‘Communication’ and ‘Diversity and inclusion’. The result makes the Schaffhausen-based luxury watch manufacturer one of the best employers in Switzerland. The evaluation to become a "Great Place to Work®" comprises two parts. First, the Trust Index is determined by surveying employees, and, the organisation also carries out a detailed audit of company culture. Many IWC employees once again chose to participate in the online survey, which was conducted in the summer of 2021. IWC was found to have improved across all five of the survey's categories, particularly in 'Credibility' and 'Fairness'. As was the case in 2019's survey, 86 per cent of participants believe that they have an excellent workplace on the whole at IWC. The manufacturer also achieved exceptional results on questions about welfare and workplace safety. Furthermore, staff valued the company's flexible working methods, the support provided while working from home and the communication and closeness between staff and management during the pandemic. "During the COVID-19 pandemic, we showed our flexibility as an employer and successfully switched to working from home in a matter of days. We also developed and implemented viable protection concepts for our employees in the Manufacturing Centre within a very short time frame. Maintaining communication with our global teams and motivating our employees in this difficult time proved to be another challenge we overcame. That is why I'm immensely pleased that IWC has passed this stress test and that IWC's qualities as an employer have once again been confirmed," explained René Behr, Chief People Officer at IWC Schaffhausen.

MESSIKA OPENS NEW BOUTIQUE IN JAPAN

Messika continues its rapidly expanding presence in Asia with the opening of its second boutique in Japan last August, 25th 2021. The boutique located in the prestigious Isetan Shinjuku department store presents all the iconic pieces of the jewelry house: the timeless Move as well as the Glam’Azone, My Twin, Lucky Move collections. Customers will also have to chance to discover unique High Jewelry sets designed at the Messika High Jewelry Atelier in Paris. To celebrate the opening of this new boutique, the My First Diamond bracelet will be available at Isetan Shinjuku boutique exclusively.

EXCELLENT RESULTS FOR DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION In addition to 'Flexibility as an employer' and 'Workplace safety', the results for 'Diversity and inclusion' are particularly noteworthy. Specifically, IWC scored very highly on equality of treatment regardless of sexual orientation, nationality, ethnicity and physical or mental disability. The topic of 'Diversity and inclusion' is also a major focus of IWC's sustainability strategy, and in 2020 it founded a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council to serve as a sounding board for the entire company and provide input across all departments and regions in the future. It is one of the ways IWC hopes to achieve the ambitious diversity it has set itself in its 2020 sustainability report. COMPANY CULTURE AS AN ESSENTIAL FACTOR IWC first obtained certification from "Great Place to Work®" in September 2019. The fact that the company has now been recertified results from years of continuous investment in creating a progressive workplace culture. In addition to its diversity aims, recruiting, supporting and retaining qualified employees is another crucial focus of IWC's sustainability report. This emphasises just how important workplace culture is to the Schaffhausen- based luxury watch manufacturer, and certification as a "Great Place to Work®" marks the successful completion of another of the goals for 2022 set by the company in its 2020 sustainability report.

Fabergé Unveils Compliquée Peacock Arte Hand-Painted Limited-Edition Watches

14 Fabergé is delighted to introduce two new additions to its Compliquée Peacock collection: The Compliquée Peacock Platinum and Rose Gold HandPainted Limited Edition Watches. Following on from the great success at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève in 2015, in which the Compliquée Peacock won the High-Mechanical award, Fabergé has now introduced a new variation on the theme, made in partnership with Workmaster, Jean-Marc Wiederrecht from Agenhor and master craftsman, André Martinez (a specialist in miniaturist artistic painting on watch dials). Limited to ten numbered pieces of each design, each watch dial is totally unique and features an intricate scene hand-painted by André Martinez, depicting a peahen alongside the iconic peacock. These miniature masterpieces pop with colour, with vibrant blues, greens and orange. Fabergé’s Timepieces Director, Aurélie Picaud, says: “Our new Compliquée Peacock watches are inspired by the Imperial Peacock Egg of 1908. The movement within the watches allows a unique way of displaying hours and minutes, and takes its inspiration from early Fabergé automata creations, and their ingenuity. These two new models epitomise ‘The Art of Colour’, craftsmanship and creativity. Our craftspeople are part of the story and the passion they have for their special craft is translated into each of these designs.” The paintings are carried out with lacquers of exceptional quality. Whilst remaining true to traditional miniature painting techniques, these lacquers also meet high manufacturing standards, including resistance to UV rays; and they are environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and non-toxic. Master craftsman, André Martinez says: “These new additions to the Fabergé Compliquée collection fuse high-end horological complication with the ancient technique of miniature artistic painting, which is delicately carried out with lacquers of exceptional quality, using traditional techniques. I allowed my imagination to run freely when developing the design with Aurélie Picaud, celebrating Fabergé’s sense of wonder and colour. Each motif is drawn and hand-painted entirely by brush through the aid of binoculars to capture the most minute details. I paint the exquisite mother-of-pearl dial, the gold peacock and each of its individual feathers in-turn, which requires between 50 to 60 hours of work per dial.” These new creations are available in two styles, with the choice of an 18k rose gold case with forest green crocodile leather strap, or a platinum case with a teal crocodile leather strap. Each case features a diamond set bezel, which adds a delicate radiance to the stunning design. The Compliquée Peacock watch features a unique movement developed exclusively for Fabergé by Agenhor. Hours are read at the winding crown at three o’clock, as a numbered mother-of-pearl ring rotates counterclockwise. The minutes are read by the position of the peacock's tail

feathers as they unfurl each hour, only returning to zero when the lead feather reaches 60. These watches perpetuate the ingenious and free-thinking spirit of Peter Carl Fabergé himself, who imagined and made many of his creations to be both emotive and fascinating. Innovative and surprising, the Compliquée Peacock pays homage to the renowned Imperial Class ‘Peacock Egg’ of l908, while the handpainted decoration is reminiscent of a silver gilt, enamel and sapphire set gold cigar box from the Fabergé archive. These mobile works of art display an evolving scene, as time unwinds on the wearer’s wrist. In this manually wound movement, four pivoting feather ‘blades’ fan out simultaneously indicating the minutes. Each of these blades is moving independently, but at a different speed to the others. As the cycle is repeated each hour, time takes on a new role, going beyond merely charting the passing of the minutes to creating scenes of ephemeral beauty. The system driving the blades is the movement's most fascinating organ. Each of the four mobile blades advances at a different speed so that the ensemble unfurls in perfect harmony. The synchronisation of the blades is made possible by an innovative mechanical organ known as the AgenFAN. Based on a differential model, it is made up of two series of toothed wheels of increasing diameters on one and decreasing diameters on the other, which are superimposed on the same axis. They mesh along the entire length and are placed side-by-side. The first is driven by the spindle of the hours cam and in-turn drives the second, which individually powers each of the other blades. This construction also enables the first blade to move forward by 15° each hour, the second by 30°, the third by a 45° and the last by 60°.

The new The Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Berluti store Rieussec Chronograph Limited Edition: in Milan A 200th Anniversary Tribute to the “Time Writer”

15 Montblanc pays tribute to the 200th anniversary of the inking chronograph invented by the French watchmaker, Nicolas Rieussec, in 1821 marking the history of fine watchmaking. Inspired by the original device, the new Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph LE 200 features the two recognisable, rotating, horizontally-aligned, chronograph discs with fixed double index combined with a gold-coloured dial. The 200th Anniversary of the Rieussec Inking Chronograph Invention The decade of the 1820s was one of the most prosperous in Nicolas Mathieu’s life (1781 – 1866), the sixth royal watchmaker to the King of France. On September 1st, 1821, Nicolas Rieussec was at the Champ-de-Mars Arrondissement de la Seine race in Paris, not as a spectator but as a watchmaker testing a “chronometer intended to consistently measure the time horses take to travel the prescribed race distances—not only the winning horse, but also all those that cross the line after it”. It worked using a fixed nib that would place a black mark on two rotating counters the moment each horse crossed the finish line. Few weeks later, he presented his new invention to the country’s Academy of Sciences in Paris that called it a “chronograph”, taken from the Greek “chronos” for time and “graphein” to write. The word chronograph was born and Nicolas Rieussec became the inventor of the world’s first inking chronograph, marking the history of fine watchmaking. The principle of the rotating dials was the inspiration for the design and the movement of the new Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Limited Edition 200 and gives the watch its unmistakable appearance. Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph LE 200 To celebrate the 200th anniversary of this innovative mechanism, Montblanc unveils the Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Limited Edition 200, inspired by the same functions and golden colour tones of the first Nicolas Rieussec chronograph. A Distinctive Dial Inspired by Original Rieussec Chronographs The complex dial is composed of six different part providing 3-dimensional effect. It has been developed with particular attention paid to the proportions of the aesthetic and horological details. Inspired by the Rieussec historical device, the base of the dial is made in gold-colour with a traditional guilloché grain d’orge decoration. Following the iconic design of the original chronograph, two goldcoloured domed rotating chronograph discs, with 60-elasped second on the left and a 30-elapsed minute on the right, are displayed on the lower part of the dial. A blued applied double hand is fixed in between and above them, reminiscent of the historical system that used ink for time measurements.

Relocating from Via Sant’Andrea and conceived as a 360 degrees Berluti lifestyle experience, the store’s design focuses on simplicity through exceptional materials. Natural light permeates the space through the front window and an airy back garden. The leather goods and footwear sections welcome customers upon entrance in a pristine setting of white striped wallpaper, the limited Blue Jeans marble, and Calacatta cielo volumes. In contrast, the 4-metre-high ceiling - inspired by the depth and variety of Berluti’s leather patina - is made from tridimensional irregular wooden beams with illuminated spaces in between. A patina wall takes over the back space with sliding panels of mixed coloured glass, creating different colour and textures combinations emulating Berluti’s emblematic patinas. A playful combination between leather and American walnut wood stairs leads to the ready-to-wear area on the mezzanine. In a subdued salon-like atmosphere, Berluti’s new Club chair and furniture offering are displayed, overlooking the patina-inspired ceiling, celebrating the Maison’s lifestyle heritage and innovations. Located in Via Monte Napoleone, 27, Berluti’s new Milan flagship opened doors in August 2021. For the occasion, a new design collection with Jorge Penades will be revealed and displayed in the newly relocated flagship store – as well as during the upcoming Salone del Mobile, in Milan, in early September.

La Prairie Introduces Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil INDULGE IN THE LINE-SMOOTHING POTENCY OF CAVIAR,TONIGHT AND BEYOND THE COBALT NIGHT Dreams emerge in obscurity, when surrender to the creativity of night is complete. Night is when life’s trivialities fall away, when the elusive unveils itself and creation in crystal clarity becomes possible. It is in this clarity that a single, potent colour, cobalt blue, envelops the dreams of creativity. A colour of femininity, of audacity, of strength, it is a colour that yearns to be brought to life. The colour of life at night – The Cobalt Night. The scientists at La Prairie asked themselves a very simple question. What else might the night unveil? They identified an elusive component of caviar that thrives at night. Introducing Caviar Retinol, a new Swiss caviar incarnation.

THE ELUSIVE STRENGTH OF CAVIAR

20

Within the unchartered realms of night, the scientists discovered an unexpected, elusive component of Caviar. Rare, natural Retinol. Retinol, a molecule coveted for its unmatched linesmoothing efficacy, yet extremely difficult to capture and retain. It can only exist in obscurity. Subjected to light, it ceases to exist at all. La Prairie scientists were determined to bring to life this elusive strength of Caviar, beyond lifting and firming. Composed of caviar lipids and of caviar-derived retinol, Caviar Retinol is exclusive to La Prairie. It is obtained through a specially-designed extraction process, which creates the ideal conditions to capture and retain both caviar lipids and caviar-derived Retinol. Thanks to this unique combination, La Prairie’s Caviar Retinol harnesses the line-effacing potential of caviar: a potential fully realised at night. Many processes in the skin follow a circadian rhythm, with a peak and a low within a 24-hour period. During the night, the skin’s focus is primarily on regeneration, whereas, during the day, it is mainly on protection. The obscurity of night gives way to creation, with peaks in collagen synthesis and epidermal renewal. But while creation processes peak at night, so too does barrier permeability, as the skin has let down its defences. This makes skin more prone to nighttime water loss. With time, the peaks of creation decline, resulting in a decrease in the density of the dermal extracellular network, as well as a decrease in functionality of the epidermis. In parallel, barrier permeability increases further, leading to excessive water loss. Damages accumulate, creating an accelerated decrease in skin vitality. Imbued with Caviar Retinol, Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil is designed to work in conjunction with the skin’s natural circadian rhythms to help counteract these age-induced effects, whilst its oily composition creates an immediate temporary outer barrier to minimise water loss. Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil uncreases by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while visibly smoothing the skin’s surface. It restores firmness through re-densifying. As the last step of the Nighttime Ritual, the formula seals in moisture and active ingredients from the preceding treatments, intensifying ritual results. In parallel, it improves the skin barrier in the long term, moisturising the skin. Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil includes La Prairie’s Exclusive Cellular Complex, incorporated for the very first time within an oil. Inspired www.theciin.com

by Dr Paul Niehans’ pioneering work on rejuvenation conducted at the storied Clinique La Prairie, the Exclusive Cellular Complex gives new life and energy back to the skin. It targets essential elements for a rejuvenated appearance.

THE SKIN CAVIAR NIGHTTIME RITUAL The Skin Caviar Nighttime Ritual begins with perfectly clean skin. Then a few drops of Skin Caviar Essence-in-Lotion helps sooth and prepare the skin for the treatments to follow. Next comes Skin Caviar Liquid Lift, infused with Caviar Premier and Caviar Absolute, for an unparalleled lifted appearance and visually regained volume. Follow with Skin Caviar Eye Lift with Caviar Premier to revive, raise and redefine the eye area. Bring a lifting indulgence to the eyes with Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Cream enriched with Caviar Premier. Complete the ritual with Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil, the night’s last gesture. At once generous and silky, the formula soothes and cushions skin, for total indulgence. Over time, lines and wrinkles appear reduced, skin looks firmed and moisture is sealed in, prolonging the elusive strength of caviar, beyond the night.

A PIVOTAL ENCOUNTER INFUSES THE HOUSE WITH COLOUR When La Prairie encountered Niki de Saint Phalle’s cobalt blue, the link between the Skin Caviar Collection and the colour’s evocative qualities became clear: only cobalt blue would do for Skin Caviar, immediately creating an icon. Cobalt blue is the very incarnation of femininity, of audacity, of strength.Femininity because caviar is life. Indeed, caviar is the very essence of life contained, and what is more feminine than empowering life itself? Audacity, because it was pure audacity to even imagine infusing skincare with caviar – a bold, unexpected idea. Strength, because the scientists at La Prairie had discovered the phenomenal potential of caviar and they were excited – driven even – to explore the opportunities that their newly-minted Caviar Science possessed. For Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil, La Prairie unveils a singular cobalt blue outer jar that houses an opaque black inner vessel. The result is a striking contrast of cobalt blue and total obscurity. It is the perfect fusion of both form and function, with the minimal, pure lines of Bauhaus-inspired design bellying a state-of-the-art glass-in-glass construction, specifically created to help protect the elusive properties of Caviar Retinol housed within.A DIGITAL VOYAGE TO THE REALMS OF THE NIGHT Cobalt blue, whose depth never ceases to seduce the eye, has been celebrated by artists throughout the history of art. For La Prairie, French digital artist Maotik uses digital mastery to bring the singularity of cobalt blue to life with a journey of the senses that transports the viewer into the depths of the night where creativity is set free. For the 2021 edition of Art Basel in Basel, Maotik created Sense of Blue, an immersive installation composed of three stages to plunge the viewer gradually into the depths of night. Motion sensors, video projections and digital algorithms lie hidden within the unseen frame to offer an immersion that marries minimalist aesthetic and technical sophistication. An immersive and interactive work where the viewers’ movements shape their environment through an immaterial, shifting facet of light. As a specialist in interactive environments, Maotik is a leading figure in digital art, a field that puts technological innovation and expertise at the service of beauty. It is an approach that deeply resonates with the vision of La Prairie, where art and science are inextricably linked. A dialogue between the two, Sense of Blue sets night at the heart of an enhanced beauty ritual. It is a manifold artistic work that harnesses all times, past and future, to set its mark on the present. August, 2021

COACH

REINTRODUCES THE ROGUE

34

Coach reintroduces its Rogue bag with a campaign starring Jennifer Lopez, Kate Moss, Kōki, Ma Zhe, Lu, and Xiao Wen Ju—and photographed by Juergen Teller with styling by Olivier Rizzo. Inspired by the Rogue’s unique attitude and shot in famous locations around the world—including London Bridge and the Bund in Shanghai—the campaign tells the story of the Rogue’s legacy and craft. First introduced on the runway in 2016, the Rogue is inspired by free-spirits, rebels and dreamers. Today, it is reintroduced as part of Coach’s Fall collection “Coach Forever, Season Two” in a new environmentally responsible version of Coach’s Signature Jacquard crafted in organic and recycled materials and embroidered with Fall’s menagerie of creatures. Next month, Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers will receive the Accessories Council’s Hall of Fame award for the Rogue. The Hall of Fame Award recognizes an item or brand that has stood the test of time as determined by the Accessories Council Board and is awarded at the annual Design Excellence Awards. Created toward the beginning of Vevers’ tenure at Coach, and since reimagined in a variety of colors, materials and sizes, the Rogue quickly became one of the house’s in-demand icons. www.theciin.com

35

“The Rogue is perhaps my favorite bag that I’ve designed at Coach,” said Vevers. “It has that combination of heritage, offbeat attitude and a sense of authentic American style that perfectly embodies my vision for the house. The Fall collection is inspired by the optimism of things crafted to last, and naturally felt like the right moment to reintroduce the Rogue with a new story created with Juergen and our Coach Family. Coach will also mark the reintroduction of the Rogue with a digital experience in which clients can design and share their own Rogue bag. The shoppable experience transports customers to a virtual workshop and allows visitors to build a customized Rogue bag from scratch. The house will also introduce a digital wall custom-designed for Coach House, its global flagship in New York, as part of Windows of the Future, an initiative connecting Coach customers with bespoke experiences created with their unique communities in mind.

DSQUARED2 WOMEN’S FALL WINTER 2021 Prize pieces from the wardrobe are found in Dsquared2’s Fall Winter 2021 women’s collection. Shiny new things mix with favorite thick knitted sweaters, patched worn-in jeans, mini-skirts in soft-bubbled shapes and long check shirts appliquéd with crystals and an eclectic lineup that feels comfortable and familiar. Conveying this feminine joy is a key look, the skirt suit in textured tweed with a mini bubbled skirt shape paired with a matching generous collared jacket over a skinny rib turtleneck knit—worn with sandals and an all-over sequin drawstring bag and a tiara headband. The skirt suit also comes in leather or mixed nylon topped with a waxed yellow jacket with patch pockets.

56

Bodysuits and dresses embroidered with poetry are paired with sporty details, color-blocked nylon wide legged pants with elasticated ankles and a long tailored jacket, or loose denim pants with paint splatters in a camouflage pattern. Outdoorsy tweed checks and wallpaper florals in earthy tones take form in retro shapes: flared trousers, long sleeve dresses and blouses with delicate ruffles. Thick patterned handknits with Smokey the Bear, grizzly bear and maple leaf motifs are over cropped check pants, shearling split or allover sequin skirts. Hoodies, some with built-in bear ears or tiaras, or glistening with drops of beads, are layered with tailored skirts and stirrup pants.

57

A holiday on ice inspiration of skating costume glamour is found in dresses, in metallic lamé or tulle and coated with a sprinkling with crystals or delicate shimmering beads. Contrasting against the shimmer, a fur-like shaggy coat in wool and cashmere or check shirt jackets. The new collection includes a collaboration with Patrick Cox, the shoe designer behind the iconic Wannabe loafer and a teenage friend of Dean and Dan Caten. Restyling the Wannabe’s famed square-toe form, first launched in the 90s, the Wanna-D2 comes in different styles: a heeled loafer with a mini platform, the same style in a high boot and thigh boot, and a lower ankle boot version with a chunky heel and a front strap with D hardware. Other heels in the collection are glittery with multiple buttoned straps, or strappy satin sandals with bows on the toe, and from Dsquared2’s outdoors inspiration a boot sandal is laced up to the ankle. Playful, glittery jewelry includes earrings with keys, crowns, and flowers and with D and 2 motifs, gold necklaces with crystal stars and tiara headbands. Crafted in colored leathers, a structured multi-compartment shoulder bag in mini, small, and medium sizes is decorated with D2 gold hardware. Soft drawstring pouches looped on the wrist and a knitted white bonnet with pom pom trimmed neck ties add allure to looks. August, 2021

Calvin Klein launches CKunfiltered Jeans video mini-series Hosted by fashion editor Nell Kalonji, the six-part video series will answer Google’s most-searched questions about jeans and how to style them.

72

Calvin Klein announces the launch of CKunfiltered Jeans, a six-part video series that answers Europe’s most Google-searched questions about jeans. Denim is core to Calvin Klein’s DNA and the videos aim to educate and empower audiences to confidently wear jeans. The videos are hosted by fashion authority Nell Kalonji, a London-based stylist and founding member of the Rubric Initiative, an organization dedicated to addressing the fashion industry’s barriers to entry and supporting a new generation of diverse talent. Kalonji expresses her unique style across six curated topics: summer jeans, mom jeans, boyfriend/baggy jeans, skinny jeans, colored jeans, and below-theknee. These themes were established in consultation with Google’s creative think tank, Google Creative Works, which analyzed the top searches for denim-related queries from across Europe. “Jeans are the most universal item of clothing, but for many people, it can feel overwhelming to find the perfect fit, fabric, wash or cut,” says Kalonji. “It’s been an inspiring experience to understand people’s most pressing questions about jeans, and be able to express my own style — honestly and authentically — through six essential denim looks.” www.theciin.com

73

The narrative of the videos is simultaneously informal and informative, as Kalonji interacts with models as she confidently styles bespoke looks from Calvin Klein Jeans. The pieces celebrate ‘90s nostalgia with highrise, boyfriend, baggy and skinny silhouettes. Vintageinspired mom jeans feature a high waist and tapered leg, while dad jeans have a slouchy, oversized, comfortable appeal. The versatile high-rise straight silhouette which became famous in the 80s returns with a fitted highrise top block and straight leg that hits the ankle. These styles are further complemented by a range of skinny jeans (from relaxed to super stretch, skin-hugging fabric), plus summer-ready styles in white, light blue, grey, bleached and destroyed washes. CKunfiltered: Jeans is the second edition of the CKunfiltered series, following the success of the CK Unfiltered: Bra Talk videos in fall 2020. The project further reflects Calvin Klein’s commitment to engage both new audiences and existing communities through creative, unexpected, digitally-driven content powered by consumer data and insights. The rebirth of traditional architecture

126

Southern Fujian, located on the southeast coast of China, is the beginning of the "Maritime Silk Road" in history, and has been an important maritime transportation hub since ancient times. Convenient geographical location is conducive to business exchanges with many surrounding regions and countries, so it has accumulated a strong economic foundation and is deeply influenced by foreign cultures. Accordingly, Southern Fujian culture is a mix of traditional Chinese farming culture and foreign cultural influences. This rich and diverse cultural connotation is also fully reflected in its architecture, with very distinctive regional characteristics.

XiangyuXiangyuan Home Stay Xiamen, China

127

August, 2021

128

The project is located in Dazhai Village, Xiang'an District, Xiamen. Dazhai Village has a history of more than 800 years and sits adjacent to mountains and seas, on flat terrain. New LinkSo, it’s become the inheritance place of the traditional culture of southern Fujian and the gathering place of traditional houses. Nowadays, affected by globalization of the economy and the construction of modern cities and cultures, the traditional houses in Dazhai Village are disappearing day by day. In response, the question of how to use traditional old buildings as carriers for retaining the rural memories of Southern Fujian, while reactivating its quaint villages through the power of design, has become a topic of time and locality. Xiangyu Xiangyuan B&B is composed of two parts, the old and the new. The old part is a traditional house with a century-old history that has been carefully transformed into the core space of the entire building. The new part is a contemporary architectural style composed of steel, glass, and brick. The new and old parts collide and blend, revealing the designer's thoughts on the transformation of rural old buildings and the regeneration of abandoned resources. These traditional buildings are a typical representative of traditional dwellings in Southern Fujian. The main structures of the buildings are mostly Chinese traditional wooden frames, with building facades made of red bricks and red tiles, and “Yingshan” style roofs (a traditional Chinese building type for roofs). Both ends of the roof curve slightly upward, using light and flexible "swallowtail" methods. These original traditional buildings have collapsed to varying degrees. The collapsed part of building No. 1 is the first half of the building and the west side room of the atrium. The cornerstone on the west side is irregular. The designer uses a compromise design in the collapsed area. A simple geometric building was built at the collapsed place to form a fusion with traditional architecture. The simple and pure geometry endows the old building with enough support and also highlights the readability of the traditional building. The collapsed location of building No. 2 is the hall and the front half of the kitchen. The original wooden roof frame is almost collapsed, and there is a nearly collapsed gate. The two side rooms in the middle have also collapsed. The designer directly used steel structures in the hall and the left room to support the original wooden structure. The facade adopts a large area of floor-to-ceiling windows to meet the light quality requirements of the indoor space. The traditional roof is in sharp contrast with the transparent glass, which gives the traditional house a lighter expression. Building No. 3 is mainly constructed of strips and blocks of stone, so it is still very stable after a hundred years, revealing no particularly serious damage. It has been evaluated by professional organizations and meets the reliability requirements of current national standards, but it still needs to be reinforced to avoid future troubles. To address that issue, the designer adopted an inner steel structure method for partial treatment and repair. In terms of interior design, the designer draws upon a modern interpretation of traditional Chinese architectural materials at the core, and carries out the interior design

of three century-old buildings from the three directions of wood, stone, and porcelain. Wood, throughout the history of human construction, was a renewable material obtained from a wide range of sources. Wood is the most widely used material in the Xiangyu Xiangyuan B&B space for various presentations such as furniture, flooring, and installations. It reflects the strong plasticity and artistic sense of wood, and it reflects the designer's sustainable design idea. As a natural construction material, stone has solid and natural characteristics. The overall space atmosphere of Xiangyu Xiangyuan B&B is highlighted through the redesign and application of stone. Porcelain is the most low-key material in the entire space, hidden within a modern form, expressing respect for the century-old buildings. Whether it is architectural design or interior design, designers focus on traditional buildings, and modernize them through repairs and additions, and edit Southern Fujian traditional houses. Let residents and foreign tourists experience the agile changes brought about by the design concept infused with contemporary sustainability, and further understand the Southern Fujian culture.

Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 A design and technology benchmark for modern super sports cars, reimagined for a new era: Our legacy to the future

134

www.theciin.com

A

utomobili Lamborghini unveils the Countach LPI 800-4: a futuristic limited edition paying homage to the Countach’s iconic status as a revolutionary design and technology rule-breaker and recreated for the 21st century. Its puristic lines are immediately recognizable from the Countach legacy: the patriarch of modern super sports cars and Lamborghini design. With its aspirated V12 engine combined with Lamborghini’s hybrid supercapacitor technology, the Countach LPI 800-4 retains the inimitable V12 experience and sound from its Longitudinale Posteriore (LP) mounted powerplant combined with the hybrid (I) technology developed for the Sián. Delivering 814 cv as maximum combined power (rounded at 800 in the name) from its aspirated powerplant (780 cv) and electric motor (34 cv) to its permanent four-wheel drive transmission, the LPI 800-4 produces peak Lamborghini performance of 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 2.8 seconds, a 0-200 km/h in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 355 km/h. “The Countach LPI 800-4 is a visionary car of the moment, just as its forerunner was,” says Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann. “One of the most important automotive icons, the Countach not only embodies the design and engineering tenet of Lamborghini but represents our philosophy of reinventing boundaries, achieving the unexpected and extraordinary and, most importantly, being the ‘stuff of dreams’. The Countach LPI 800-4 pays homage to this Lamborghini legacy but it is not retrospective: it imagines how the iconic Countach of the 70s and 80s might have evolved into an elite super sports model of this decade. It upholds the Lamborghini tradition of looking forward, of exploring new design and technology avenues while celebrating the DNA of our brand. It is a Lamborghini that innately expresses the marque’s enduring and emotive power: always inspirational and thrilling to see, hear and most of all drive.”

Countach – the patriarch of modern super sports car design

The Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 is instantly recognizable as the elevated descendant of Countach generations: testament to the lasting impact of the original Countach design that became the poster car of the 1980s and a symbol of automotive and lifestyle ultra-cool. The Countach moniker – a fitting expression of surprise and wonder in Piedmontese dialect and pronounced ‘Coon-tach’ – is one of very few Lamborghini model names not connected to bulls. The Countach’s distinctive silhouette with the essential line running from front to rear, sharp angles and lines and idiosyncratic wedge shape, innovated modern super sports design as well as future Lamborghini models. The Countach LPI 800-4 develops the characteristic lines of the Countach’s five models over nearly 20 years, concentrated into the purest realization of iconic automotive design.

Performance engineering for a new era

The Lamborghini V12 6.5 liter engine, outputting 780 cv, is combined with a 48 volt e-motor mounted directly on the gearbox providing a further 34 cv for immediate response and increased performance: it is the innovative and unique architecture Lamborghini developed for Sián, that is the only mild-hybrid technology to create a direct connection between electric motor and wheels, preserving the pure V12 behavior. The e-motor is powered by a supercapacitor providing three times more power compared to a lithium-ion battery of the same weight. The monocoque chassis and all the body panels are in carbon fiber, provide the optimum lightweight solution as well as exceptional torsional stiffness: the Countach LPI 800-4 has a dry weight of 1595 kg for a dry weight to power ratio of 1,95 kg/cv.

World debut at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering, USA

The Countach LPI 800-4 was unveiled at The Quail, USA in a dedicated color Bianco Siderale, containing a hint of pearlescent blue and reminiscent of Ferruccio Lamborghini’s own Countach LP 400 S, complete with red and black leather heritage interior. Owners of the exclusive limited edition Countach LPI 800-4 can choose from a range of heritage exterior paint options, mostly in solid colours, such as the iconic Impact White, Giallo Countach and Verde Medio. Produced in a run of 112 units, the number denotes the ‘LP 112’ internal project name used during the original Lamborghini Countach’s development. The Countach LPI 800-4 will be delivered from first quarter 2022 to owners worldwide, privileged to drive a piece of automotive history reimagined for the future.

Wolf’s Fang: a new Antarctic Camp Pioneers of luxury travel in Antarctica, White Desert, have announced the launch of their second camp, Wolf ’s Fang. Launching this November, the camp allows a select few adventurers access to a rarely seen region of Antarctica.

139

Situated amongst pillars of rock rising 1,000m vertically from the icecap, the camp derives its name from an iconic mountain peak that dominates the skyline. Visible from over 100km away on cloudless days, Wolf’s Fang Mountain was first seen by a flying expedition funded by the Nazi Government in the late 1930s. Since that day, the area has largely been closed to tourists with only Norwegian scientists and a handful of elite alpinists braving the summits.

August, 2021

140 White Desert’s latest camp still retains their customary fusion of luxury with a light environmental touch, comprising six state-of-the-art sleeping tents that are individually heated and designed for two guests each. The interiors hark back to the golden age of polar exploration, with leather and canvas while the spacious lounge tent is the perfect place to relax and enjoy delicious meals around a vintage prospector oven. Designed to cater for the more adventurous, Wolf’s Fang is the ideal accommodation for guests to try their hand at activities that range from ice climbing to abseiling, fat biking to gentle hikes to the summit of nearby peaks. With expert guides supporting the guests every step of the way, the 24 hours of continuous sunshine mean the days are literally endless. When it’s time to relax, an ice bar serves cocktails made from 10,000-year-old glacial ice, helping guests unwind from a day of exciting activities. “Ever since I first visited these mountains, I’ve dreamt of setting up a camp that would allow clients a chance to reconnect with nature, but also be adventurous,” says White Desert’s Founder, Patrick Woodhead. With 3 World Records and having skied over 4,000km across Antarctica himself, Woodhead is well accustomed to adventure. “Wolf’s Fang camp allows guests to experience something totally unique and that’s not something easily found these days.” White Desert’s first eco-camp, Whichaway Oasis, represents an ‘oasis’ of luxury in an inhospitable landscape, is designed to be less strenuous.
