GLOW GETTER Rahil Hesan talks about the magic of keeping your glow between motherhood and entrepreneurship

8

Rahil Hesan, an Iranian fashion entrepreneur based in Dubai has made waves in the past with her collections being showcased in New York and LA Fashion Week, Fashion TV in Paris and both in Dubai Bridal Show and Fashion Week. She was also part of Ahlan Hot 100 last 2016 and now, a mother of one, Rahil juggles the extremities between motherhood and being a fashionable modern woman. Some people may have overlooked the stress motherhood could bring and Rahil has managed to find a way of keeping her glow through all the demands our skin needs. Being in her late 30s, she has not been afraid to bare it all and go all the way when it comes to taking care of herself and as clichĂŠ as it sounds, the first step for a natural glow is maintaining a healthy diet that works for you and your body and yes, staying hydrated throughout the day is part of it. Because feeling good on the inside translates to looking good and radiant outside.

www.theciin.com

Less is more when it comes to her regimen. Rahil has four key things when it comes to looking fresh and healthy; Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize and Protect. She starts to wash her face with a mild facial foam to warm up her skin for further cleansing. Then tone with micellar water to deeply remove all the impurities and any make-up residue – Toners without alcohol content is the best for your skin to preserve the natural oils it produces. Just like us humans, our skin also gets thirsty, so Rahil makes sure her skin is always moisturized with a product that contains high-moisture components and mineral oils to lock in the moisture. Rahil is always out and about with her business and catering to her child’s needs from day to day and this last step is very essential but mostly forgotten. She keeps her skin protected from the harmful rays of the sun with sunscreen with at least SPF 50. Protecting your skin from UV Rays will prevent your skin to be prone to lines and wrinkles.

9

These steps are not only easy but also very efficient when it comes to skincare and could be a strong base for your routine by incorporating few of your staple products. Rahil only proves that you can be a mother and an entrepreneur without sacrificing self-care. At the end of the day we all need to be glow-getters July, 2019

AMERICAN FABERGE AND WORLD RENOWNED JEWELRY MAKER AND SCULPTOR, ZADORA, LAUNCHES LIMITED EDITION M.C. ESCHER SCULPTURES IN DUBAI

014

Go Retro Glam With Roberto Cavalli’s Cat Eye Styles

Andreas von Zadora-Gerlof, the American Faberge and world’s foremost glyptics aka gemstone artist, continues in his mission to create dramatic monumental size artworks and installations around the forms imagined by his artistic hero, the art genius M.C. Escher. The new works are planned to expand and enhance upon the original 10 creations from his first series which he began to sculpt some six years ago. Escher is famous for his mind-bending mathematical drawings and woodcuts from the 1930s that show people climbing up staircases on ceilings and other optical illusions. After years of developing a relationship with the Escher institute in the Netherlands, Andreas von Zadora-Gerlof and his team spent years turning 10 of Escher’s, arguably, most impressive woodcuts into large-scale sculptures wrought of principally stainless steel, aluminum and titanium. In the artist’s words, “Surprisingly, M.C. Escher has a very deep and important connection with the Middle East region as most of the designs created during the later years of his career were indeed inspired by the Islamic arts. therefore, I’m extremely honored to be bringing his incredible works into life here in Dubai, as a conduit to artists and patrons alike who I am convinced will appreciate the beauty of his work once exposed to the wonderful diverse “artistic language“. von Zadora-Gerlof has admired Escher’s works since the age of six years old. He commented, “Because they're so utterly mesmerizing, deep and beautiful. His works are unforgettable, it can easily move, challenge and tickle emotions of people of all ages in a unique way.

Give your eyes an exaggerated edge with Roberto Cavalli’s FW19 eyewear collection. Taking inspiration from the midcentury glamour, these cat eye frames are destined to update your style with some serious glam quotient. Encompassing a retro charm with strong and feminine characteristics, these alluring cat eye frames are perfect for the get-go. Pick from the classic cat-eye to the luxe wing shaped frames or add some vivacity to your look with its bold coloured tortoise designs dazzled with gold and crystal embellishments. Giving you the choice of over-sized frames as well as perfectlyproportioned styles, Roberto Cavalli’s FW19 has a pair to suit almost every trademark style. www.theciin.com

More than a suitcase: RIMOWA Essential in Slate

MCM 'TRIBE' AUTUMN/ WINTER 2019 COLLECTION

015

Global luxury brand MCM debuts its Autumn/ Winter 2019 collection ‘MCM Tribe’ – a bold celebration of travel that champions adventure, discovery and unforgettable experiences through a new series of modular and multifunctional designs.

Deriving inspiration from the chalky, gradient grey hues of the Indonesian mines, the RIMOWA Essential in Slate is soon to be your new travel companion. Designed in Germany to provide the best in hightech functionality, this piece from RIMOWA's Polycarbonate collection is expertly color matched, from handle and zipper to badge and wheel housing, for a monochrome design that looks distinctly fresh. Strong, durable and lightweight, this suitcase is the ultimate example of luggage innovation. While travellers so often focus singularly on the destination, RIMOWA seeks instead to ever ease the journey and encourage reflection on the moments in between. In keeping with this philosophy, RIMOWA’s newly launched colours are sampled directly from the aerial view of remote coordinates usually seen only from above – the fleeting impressions of secluded places so often passed over that still beg to be visited. Available in three RIMOWA Essential sizes (Cabin, Check-in and Trunk Plus) across stores in the Middle East and on www.rimowa.com

July, 2019

Nodding to MCM’s rich heritage in travel, the collection salutes the unifying force of exploration that inspired the brand since its birth in 1976. From the classically crafted valises of Munich’s jetsetting elite to the iconic rucksack that inspired a cult following, MCM’s most iconic designs have embodied the freedom, spontaneity and sense of wonder that travel brings, becoming a globally recognized symbol for rebels, rock stars and those who dare to discover. For AW19, MCM continues to redefine the travel experience. Through a design language that is both modern and movement-inspired, the ‘MCM Tribe’ celebrates mobility in all its forms, reimagining the brand’s core values of limitless freedom and irreverence through a bold range of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and accessories. To celebrate MCM’s journey towards sustainability, MCM have partnered with Aquafil, a visionary textile manufacturing company, to introduce ECONYL® regenerated nylon into its collections. For AW19 there are key styles made of this revolutionary textile, including the Camouflage Sweatshirts, the Bulletproof Multipocket Padded Vests and the Oversized Windbreaker.

T-Race Cycling Tour de France The Watch for Fans of Le Tour

016

The attacks. The incredible climbs. The amazing comebacks. The mountain stages and the sprints, all leading up to the final sprint to the finish line on the final stage. When the finish line is crossed, after more than 21 days of thrilling racing, there is only one winner. The Tour de France is cycling’s biggest and most important event, and one of the world’s most viewed sporting events. People all over the world are crazy for Le Tour, and the Tissot T-Race Cycling Tour de France is the watch for them. The T-Race Cycling Chronograph is decked out in black and yellow, the official colors of the Tour. This watch is inspired by a racing bicycle -- details from racing bikes are designed into the watch: the fork of the bike is reflected in the lugs and the hands, the pushers are inspired by brake levers, the tachymeter bezel set on a silicone ring represents the wheel, the cassette is reflected on the caseback and on the crown, and the back of the bracelet is designed to look like the chain of these racing machines. Tissot is the Official Watch and the Official Timekeeper of the Tour de France, and the T-Race Cycling Chronograph celebrates this partnership, this race and the overall lifestyle of cycling all over the world. The Tissot T-Race Cycling Tour de France Special Edition has an aerodynamic and ergonomic design. The large hands make time easy to read, even when riding on your bike. It has a sporty dial with three counters on a black tar effect background, calling to mind the roads of the Tour de France. The bold yellow second hand of this Swiss Made quartz chronograph makes it super easy to read elapsed time, and the tachymeter scale on the aluminum bezel makes it possible to determine speed in mph/kph over a fixed distance. The 44.5mm 316L stainless steel case is manufactured with a gray and black PVD coating and is water resistant up to 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft). The yellow and black silicone strap completes the Tour de France coloring. The caseback of the Tissot T-Race Cycling Tour de France Special Edition features a special Tour de France engraving. If you are a fan of the Tour de France, this is the watch for you, allowing you to wear a piece of the legendary Tour de France every single day.

Rado True Thinline Les CouleursTM Le Corbusier The ultimate Rado tribute to a design legend At Rado, we are proud to launch our latest collection of full high-tech ceramic watches which pay tribute to a true legend of design. The True Thinline Les CouleursTM Le Corbusier celebrates the work of the pioneering and visionary architect in a truly unique collection. As the Master of Materials, we have used all the expertise we’ve gained during more than 30 years of working with high-tech ceramic to create watches in the nine Architectural Polychromy colours deemed to be both appealing and the most challenging to create consistently. Created in 1931 and 1959, Architectural Polychromy was ahead of its time, using 63 colours with architectural significance that help to create space and depth as well as having a profound physiological and psychological impact on the viewer. The colours are classified in nine groups of different shades and tones. The palettes are still used widely today by architects and designers – a testament to their enduring appeal and long-lasting relevance as well as Le Corbusier’s unrivalled status as a true visionary.

Vibrant, velvety, balanced, bold, powerful, expressive, luminous, impressive and pure, the True Thinline Les CouleursTM Le Corbusier watches are produced in limited editions of 999 pieces per colour. Each has a special case back design which includes all 63 colours. As ever at Rado, each piece is durable, scratch-resistant, light and comfortable to wear thanks to the full high-tech ceramic construction and our pioneering monobloc case construction. As the exclusive watch partner of Les CouleursTM Le Corbusier, only Rado is able to make these exact colours and we are proud to produce them in our signature high-tech ceramic. Often considered the ultimate Rado because of its breakthrough design, the True Thinline is the perfect watch to showcase our ability to create bold and dynamic colour and to pay tribute to Le Corbusier, who helped shape and define the modern world as we see it – in glorious technicolour.

KENZO INTRODUCES THEIR FW19 CAMPAIGN For its Fall-Winter 2019 advertising campaign, French fashion house KENZO embarks on a journey on the road less travelled. The latest and optimistic artistic collaboration between the French fashion house and the storied pop photographer David LaChapelle shifts into a dramatic new focus. The results of this second creative partnership (KENZO and LaChapelle first collaborated for the house’s SpringSummer 2019 campaign) are less like a traditional campaign and more like what might best be described as a series of postcards sent from the edge of imagination. Blurring the lines between high art, luxury advertising and the unavoidable wanderlust incited by modern social-media photography, KENZO’s Fall-Winter campaign asks its audience to take a double or even triple look before drawing conclusions.

Proudly introducing the

Seamaster Aqua Terra “Ultra Light” OMEGA’s innovative new timepiece designed especially for sport In sport, every athlete looks for the advantage that will raise their game. This is the same approach that OMEGA has taken to the new Seamaster Aqua Terra “Ultra Light”. As the name suggests, this ingenious sports watch is designed for less weight and more comfort during play. To achieve that goal, every feature has been creatively rethought, resulting in a new edge of watchmaking innovation.

026

Developed with OMEGA’s own leading athlete Behind the development of OMEGA’s latest Master Chronometer was one of golf’s major talents: Rory McIlroy. The OMEGA ambassador helped the product development team to create a watch perfectly suited to the needs of athletes.

Light yet tough When presented on its sporty fabric strap, the ergonomic “Ultra Light” weighs just 55g. The case, caseback and crown are fashioned from an alloy called Gamma Titanium – a first for OMEGA. The unique material, used in the aeronautical industry due to its very resistant properties, is harder and lighter than conventional titanium. Thanks to careful research and trial, OMEGA also reduced the amount of material used to create the dial. This process further lightened the weight of the watch without affecting its visual impact.

A push-in crown for comfort Another first for OMEGA is the telescopic crown, which can be stowed inside the case when not in use. This ergonomic feature means there is no disturbance to the movement of an athlete’s hands while playing their game.

NEW TAG HEUER CARRERA CALIBRE 16 SPEEDS ONTO THE SCENE WITH AN UPDATED DESIGN

031

Featuring modernised design details that build on the brand’s motor racing DNA, four new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 timepieces join the legendary collection. TAG Heuer Carrera has always been a timepiece for racing drivers as much as for watch aficionados who treasure timepieces with heritage and innovative design. The new stylistic enhancements to the legendary TAG Heuer Carrera give it a more modern edge that not only improves the legibility of the dial, but also makes it ideal for everyday style – from the office to a casual weekend on the go. The revamped 41 mm TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 combines performance with a sporty, distinguished appearance for a timepiece that is as functional and comfortable as it is fashionable.

Abayas by Elna Line The design of this Kimono is enhanced with voluminous layered detail and can make a contrast with powdery silver shades and metallic heels. The embellished work on the design allows one to style this effortlessly.

Driving first-class design Several newly designed features make this refreshed timepiece stand out from its stylish predecessors. The dial – in sunray black or sunray blue – has evolved to become even more legible, ideal for drivers as they speed towards the finish line or cruise down the open road. The counters on the chronograph’s three subdials are larger and more pronounced. Instead of a dot of SuperLuminova® at each index, the index markers are now subtly filled with the luminescent material for optimal visibility in any condition. A dash of colour enhances the overall appearance of the timepiece – on the black dial, a red accent graces the tips of the central seconds hand and subdial hands, the start/ stop pusher and the flange from 12 to 3 o’clock. On the models with a blue dial, the accent is orange. July, 2019

035

July, 2019

2017’s edition of the “Pulse of the Fashion industry” by Global Fashion Agenda revealed that in 2015, the industry consumed a staggering 79 billion cubic metres of water, a figure expected to increase by 50% in 2030. One of the reasons producing seemingly simple garments greatly depletes our global water reserves is that most of these pieces are made from cotton - a famously thirsty crop. Pile on the fact that much of it is cultivated in parts of the world suffering from water stress and we have a serious problem.

036

Did you know that it takes approximately 2,000 gallons of water to make a single pair of your favourite jeans? Mass market fashion brands are the biggest culprit with throwaway trends, and this has led to the fashion industry contributing to 20% of global wastewater and 10% of global carbon emissions. However, consumers are the second biggest culprit, throwing away an average of 70 pounds of clothes every year, all of which can be recycled. Ultimately, the change is in our hands and what we decide to put in them. If we are asked how much water we consume daily, we often refer to our recommended eight glasses of drinking water or the water we use to have a shower or wash up the dishes, but never do we consider all the water used to manufacture our clothes. Stephen Leahy, the author of “Your Water Footprint: The shocking facts about how much water we use to make everyday products”, proclaims some shocking truths - “The average American's daily water footprint is a whopping 2,115 gallons (8,000 litres). Since 1 litre weighs 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds), that's the weight of four cars you have to haul if you get all that water from a well”.

www.theciin.com

The rabbit hole of sustainability and inciting meaningful, powerful change to production and consumerist habits is not one easily grappled with. Yet, one thing is clear, as individuals, we must make substantial daily changes to ensure the preservation of our water resources, such as taking shorter showers, turning the water off when not in use, but also, purchasing items for long term use. The future of this planet does not lie solely in our hands, fashion houses have to take responsibility for the part they play in the depletion of our environment and take measures to try and protect it. A way this can be done is by using more eco-friendly or recyclable materials in their production practices. At Josephoesph & Alexander, we have a deep profound love and respect for the ocean, that is why we have decided to use fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles found in the ocean and transform them into quirky, environmentallyinspired short designs. Conceptualised to ignite curiosity within the minds of its youngest wearers, each piece is designed to spark an "educational conversation" around critical world issues. championing environmental action is at the heart of the brand. Operating consciously using recycled fabric from ocean plastics, ecofriendly ink, and reusable packaging, each collection depicts awareness-raising narratives of minimising our environmental footprint and having fun whilst doing so.

Hi, please introduce yourself to our readers Hi, I am Dana Malaeb Adi, a 24-year-old fashion designer and fashion entrepreneur Tell us about your education I graduated in Fashion Design at the University of Notre Dame and am now pursuing my Master's Degree in Cultural Management. How and when did your interest in fashion begin? I can't remember exactly where my interest began. It's something I was always obsessed with. What was the first outfit you ever created? I want to think I was too young to have memories of the first outfit, but playing around with fabric was always part of my playtime. How would you describe your designs? It took me a while to understand my designs and my voice, and I think it's an ongoing process in discovering where my inspiration takes me. But I find myself drawn to making outfits that suit women who want to stand out, not ones who want to be a wallflower and blend in. How would you characterize those who wear your designs? Women with tons of character and charm, and have something to say and do to change life. How do you feed your creativity and stay inspired? I find inspiration in very different mediums, mostly from the material itself. Finding patterns and material sparks my interest and playing around with colors. I'm also inspired by stories I hear to books, music, films and paintings. Sometimes it's a concept that attracts me, and I start constructing it in my mind until it's mature enough for fabric. When and where did you launch your label Maisondanamaleb? After winning the BYFDC competition, I felt compelled to maintain momentum and maintain a steady output to challenge me time and again, and be versatile in my technical approach. What were some of the challenges you faced during the initial stage? How did you overcome them? Every artistic endeavor is challenging in nature from the funding to the technical challenges, but it all makes it worth the wait, and when everything comes together, all the challenges make the triumph sweeter. Of course, overcoming these challenges need an army of support, talent, and well-drawn out partnerships which guarantees you come out the other side successful. July, 2019

053

What's your future vision for the Maisondanamaleb label? I hope to be able to come to the runway with new designs each year that speak of the journey I had in the past year and detail my inspirations and obsessions. This is something I need every year to express my life's journey. How has your work evolved since you began your label? Dealing with clients is the biggest plus in my experience. Going from thinking about abstract heroes who I want to dress on a runway to working with real people and trying to find a way to express who they are in their dress is a beautiful process. You can only do it when you love the clients, connect with them and understand them at a very deep level. This is changing how I think of designs, being in touch with the reality of what women love to wear and how they love to see themselves.

What is Lemonade.fashion? Tell us more about it. Lemonade Fashion is an online shopping platform for custommade designer clothing. It's a step forward in fashion technology on a global scale, and I'm thrilled to be part of it as we're defining the absolute latest in technology. I am so proud of our awesome team from the AI engineers to the coders and programmers who are making the impossible happen in fashion technology. This enables your phone to take your measurements and allows you to customize your wardrobe for affordable prices. How would you describe your fashion style? I like creating my sense and feel in outfits. Something that's bold and makes a statement either with the colors or cuts or types of fabric. The occasion and place also help me find the most suitable outfit for the day. What are some of your favourite materials to use? I love playing around with embroidery and patterns. I'm also continually looking through big warehouses at new material that inspires. Are there any types of clothing that you avoid wearing? There's no specific type of wardrobe I avoid; I make sure to pick outfits that emphasize my body and suit my shape. What's the biggest lesson you've learned since you started your company? That as an artist, you always need to push yourself and be on the lookout for something new and inspiring. Being in touch with yourself as an artist is essential if you want to work in a fast paced environment like fashion design. Also, it's all in the team you have around you, without the right team, you'll be a bunch of unfinished ideas.

AKILLIS PYTHON COLLECTION With this new collection AKILLIS returns to its first inspirations coming from ancient mythology. Caroline Gaspard created a line of jewellery derived from the story of Cleopatra, queen of Egypt. A woman of character with enchanting powers of seduction, it is said she used to wear live pythons around her wrists. In contrast with ancient Egyptian jewellery, the AKILLIS line represents the reptile by its purest essence: its unmistakable skin pattern. With imagination flying high, the French brand offers its own version of the reptile, somewhere between precious wildlife and a futuristic carapace. The design associates geometrical and round shaped scale elements, bringing to mind the movement of the snake, coiling around one’s body, thus revealing all the sensuality and mystery emerging from this most feared yet admired animal. As always, the brand is faithful to its taste for contrast and duality. Though the collection is indeed an ode to feminity, the design is an obvious reminder of ancient warriors’ armours, an inspiration forever dear to the brand. The gold and diamond scales curl around the fingers and wrists, drawing a beautiful portrait along the ears and undulating around the neck of the special person wearing a python jewel. The collection, named PYTHON, conveys the warmth of the yellow gold and pink gold, and the coolness of the white gold and diamonds. As always AKILLIS enhances the best of French traditional craftsmanship to give life to the most creative designs. Caroline Gaspard wanted the snake skin aspect to be rendered true and authentic, putting into relief the skin pattern by way of a gold embossed design. The motif finds its maximum symbolic expression and becomes absolutely rock’n’roll.

062

This new collection reveals once again the brand’s talent to transform and reinvent the codes of jewellery, this time delivering a new interpretation of a classic. No doubt will this snake-like collection charm you and you will not hesitate any longer to cover yourself with our PYTHON jewels.

VHERNIER’S PIROUETTE RING THE EVOLUTION OF AN ICON

066 Minimalist and avant-garde, the Pirouette ring is a Vhernier icon. Following the shape of the fingers, this domed and slanted jewel is a perfect example of the identity of the brand, where a less is more mentality must also be combined with an extraordinary element that will make all the difference. Revolutionary since it made its debut and renowned in the rose gold version, Pirouette has been reinterpreted in numerous versions. An exquisite version of the Pirouette comes in a full pavé of white or black diamonds; each stone extensively sourced to meet highest standards in terms of cut, color and purity. With outstanding precision, Vhernier artisans set the diamonds with only two prongs, limiting the amount of metal visible between one stone and the other. This procedure takes countless hours of work but creates an endless stream of diamonds that are exceptionally brilliant. Often known for defying the norm, Vhernier offers a version of the Pirouette ring in rose gold with a discreet edge of pave of white diamonds, which allows for a bold yet understated look. In an alternate version of the Pirouette ring, the warmth of rose gold is combined with the coolness of white kogolong, an unusual volcanic stone from Afghanistan, to create a light and fresh jewel. In striking contrast, the ring is also offered in rose gold and black jet. In the pursuit of geometric shape and dimension, both Pirouette rings utilize a sophisticated mix of unique materials set in the ever classic yet playful tone of rose gold. Simple, sophisticated and courageous, Pirouette, which was received with great astonishment when it was launched in 1990, has become the emblem of Vhernier’s prodigious capacity for invention and the non-conformist side of the brand.

A journey to the end of the world at the heart of the Amazon To celebrate a decade of existence, Akillis Paris unveils its latest fine jewellery piece and thus propels a creative momentum to its apex. Caroline Gaspard, founder of Akillis Jewellery, wanted a unique design with gemstones of exceptional colours. 068

In fact, with those unique pieces, Akillis Paris reaches out beyond the limits of its imaginary. Hence, for this high-end jewellery creation, enhancing its splendour becomes her mantra. This very special jewellery set incarnates strong multi-faceted symbolism. And since Caroline Gaspard renewed her wedding vows six times beyond frontiers, the six rows of gemstones from Paraïba are an ode to travel and love expressing with an ethnic charm the power of their original aura. ROM Welcome Project

Toronto, Canada

The ROM’s new Bloor Street Terrace and Plaza, designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, revealed.

July, 2019

091

092 In a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by donors, board members and executives, the ROM marked the opening of the new Helga and Mike Schmidt Performance Terrace and the Reed Family Plaza. The spaces, designed by Siamak Hariri of Hariri Pontarini Architects (HPA) create a lively streetscape around the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal entrance providing a welcoming place to sit, relax, and enjoy outdoor performance programming.

Upon arrival at the ceremony, just prior to the 10:00 am opening of the ROM, visitors waited comfortably nestled on the benches of the planters under the soft shading of the trees, enjoying the warm summer morning – the space functioning exactly as it was envisioned.

“For me, this project is all about welcome – the realization of the possibilities and rich opportunities of the public realm as it extends not only forward along Bloor Street but also to the west with its connection to Philosopher’s Walk. A space that creates a warm and open connection between the ROM and the city,” says Hariri. A Sentiment that was echoed by the ROM’s Director and CEO, Josh Basseches, who hopes this project will further the museum’s “commitment to being a place for all.” The soft Algonquin limestone of the terrace and the gently curved edges of the benches surrounding planting beds lush with trees and biodiverse gardens provide much needed public gathering and seating space in the heart of the city. The terrace, elevated off of Bloor street and nestled beneath the west side of the Crystal, provides a sheltered area for outdoor performances and connects to the greenery of Philosopher’s Walk.

www.theciin.com

This marks the third and final phase of the ROM’s Welcome project that included the reopening of the heritage Weston Family Entrance on Queen’s Park in 2017, also designed by HPA, and free access to the Daphne Cockwell Gallery in 2018.

Now known as MUDETEC, the ‎Museum of Technology has quickly become a popular attraction for tourists visiting the birthplace of Lamborghini in Italy. The new interactive space reveals the secrets of Lamborghini and its world through the innovations and tales of excellence that, for over fifty years, not only revolutionised the company itself but the entire panorama of the automotive industry, creating concepts and casting foundations for the design and technology of tomorrow. Speaking about the new announcement, Damien Percheron, Head of Middle East and Africa markets (MEA) for Automobili Lamborghini, said: “The new MUDETEC is the go-to place for Lamborghini super fans who want to truly immerse themselves in the brand’s rich history. The Eighties saw the arrival of the LM002, Lamborghini’s first off-roader and the forerunner of today’s luxury SUVs. In the Nineties it was the turn of the Diablo GT’s futuristic looks: the world’s fastest series car at the time. The new millennium got off to a flying start with the Sesto Elemento, a masterpiece of engineering with an exceptional weight/power ratio and built entirely in carbon fibre.

This is seamlessly integrated with the unique AI, known as the Bentley Personal Assistant, which helps the car’s occupants enhance and curate their Grand Tour experiences. Sustainable innovation is also at the heart of the Bentley EXP 100 GT experience. The car is engineered to create a greater awareness of the world outside, with an intelligently-curated collection of materials including 5,000 year old Copper Infused Riverwood; Compass exterior paint made from recycled rice husks; 100% organic leather-like textile from wine making; British Farmed Wool carpets and embroidered www.theciin.com

cotton interior surfaces which all create sustainable future luxury, adding to the enhanced reality of the grand touring car of the future. Adrian Hallmark, Bentley Chairman and CEO, said: “Today, on our Centenary, we demonstrate our vision of the future of our Marque, with the Bentley EXP 100 GT - a modern and definitive Grand Tourer designed to demonstrate that the future of luxury mobility is as inspirational and aspirational as the last 100 years. Bentley has, and will continue to enhance and enrich every single journey and the lives of every single person who travels in, or has the honour to be a part of creating our extraordinary products.” Stefan Sielaff, Director of Design said: “The Bentley EXP 100 GT represents the kind of cars we want to make in the future. Like those iconic Bentleys of the past, this car connects with its passengers’ emotions and helps them experience and safeguard the memories of the really extraordinary journeys they take.” An inspiring blend of performance, technology and craftmanship, the Bentley EXP 100 GT is a beautiful, immersive and emotionally intelligent experience.

July, 2019

Luxury Beyond Mobility The Bentley EXP 100 GT redefines the car as a space for extraordinary and emotional human experiences, ones that enrich and inspire. Bentley’s vision imagines the journeys of the future, drawing on 100 years of expertise in luxury design and craftmanship that are currently being celebrated around the world in the company’s Centenary year. The Bentley EXP 100 GT’s sleek and muscular exterior explores the brand’s future design direction. It incorporates the company’s unmistakable DNA, remaining instantly recognisable as a Bentley. The famous R-Type Continental haunch at the rear, the round headlights that overlap the grille in a nod to the famous Bentley Blower and a long graceful body hint at famous models of yesteryear. However, this Bentley journeys into the future. Made from lightweight aluminium and carbon fibre, the Bentley EXP 100 GT measures 5.8 metres long and almost 2.4 metres wide, and makes a statement of true luxury. This is further enhanced by decorative features crafted from copper and aluminium, both natural sustainable materials, which evoke founder W.O Bentley’s choice of materials to create the alloy for his famous BR1 Aero engine piston that played a major role in securing the air theatre in World War 1. The driver and passenger doors are two metres wide and pivot outwards and upwards for effortless access. Fully open, they rise to almost three metres, adding to the sense of occasion on arrival.

102

The new exterior paint colour Compass is created using a special Colourstream pigment that reflects a beautiful spectrum of autumnal colours and is both sustainable and environmentally friendly. The pigment is synthetically made using rice husk ash, a harmful bi-product of the rice industry, remanufactured for the Bentley EXP 100 GT to reduce the amount that ends up in landfill waste. The Bentley EXP 100 GT’s expressive exterior lighting is both dynamic and dramatic. A focal point is the smart, illuminated matrix grille and Flying B mascot which come to life as one approaches the car, light playing across the grille, through the mascot and along the bonnet central spine of the car and into the cabin itself. The car literally comes alive.

The materials are brought together by design, a seamless blend of patterns and forms, textures and colours. Glass flows into metal, into wood and into leather. Light is core to life and in the Bentley EXP 100 GT it is harvested from the surrounding environment via an innovative glass roof embedded with prisms that collect light and transfer it into the cabin using fibre optics. The use of harvested natural light and synthesised light offers a new approach to enhancing wellness on board. The Bentley Personal Assistant is a centre piece of the main console and visualised using illuminated crystal from Cumbria, England. Ambient lighting can also be modified to recreate a specific mood or exterior environment, while additional effects are delivered through projection mapping onto trim panels, such as door pads. Intelligent, Adaptable Biometric Seating can be configured in three different ways, depending on whether the owner is driving or using autonomous mode. Biometric sensors monitor temperature, passenger position and environmental conditions to deliver the ultimate in comfort, whatever the conditions. Bentley Personal Assistant pre-empts passenger needs and can even maximise comfort based on its knowledge of its owner. For example, reactive seat surfaces respond to passenger position during driving, automatically offering more support when the need is sensed. In addition, biometrics are embedded throughout the Bentley EXP 100 GT to track eye and head movements, even blood pressure. It represents the future of customised, in-car comfort far beyond any seating experienced in a modern-day car.

At the rear, a ‘horseshoe’ section of the boot is a 3D OLED screen on which lighting effects can blend in with the rear lamps. Inside a luxurious cockpit, Bentley craftspeople have taken handcraftsmanship of materials to an as yet unseen level, setting the new benchmark for luxury interiors. The finest natural materials such as wood, leather and glass are seamlessly blended with light, creating a unique interior environment that boosts the physical and mental well-being of passengers. Exquisite materials graduate and flow throughout the handcrafted cabin of the Bentley EXP 100 GT. For example, the embroidery pattern of the sustainable textiles and leather complement the pattern of the grain in the naturally-felled wood veneer. These traditional, tactile materials reconnect passengers with the authentic, natural world around them. Imperceptible joins between different materials such as wood, leather and wool allow an overall design motif to flow across all these surfaces. www.theciin.com

ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM SHOT BY BRITISH PHOTOGRAPHER RANKIN

R

olls-Royce Phantom sits at the apex of the luxury world. It has graced some of the most formative-moments of the 20th and 21st centuries with an assuring, silent and sophisticated presence. It is the motor car that proudly counts many of the world’s most influential and revered individuals among its wealthy collectors. Alongside these notable individuals lie a rare and coveted subset of enthusiasts. These young individuals, iconoclasts by nature, have long regarded Phantom as the ultimate expression of creative will. Take for example Salvador Dali who filled a Phantom with 500 kilograms of cauliflower, or John Lennon who selected his Phantom as a canvas for a psychedelic mirage. More recently, Skepta – darling of the Grime scene, transformed Phantom into a rolling recording studio. In this vein, when British photographer Rankin made Phantom his subject, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars was compelled to oblige. Counted among the great photographers and filmmakers of our time, Rankin’s strong sensorial style has led him to move beyond fashion and beauty into a world of atmospheric storytelling.

Rankin shines a light on Phantom’s younger driver focused appeal in a short film that speaks directly to a new generation of Phantom customer. This generation are hyper-successful, self-made, individuality seekers; this generation are in the driving seat. Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, commented, “Phantom Limousine, the extended wheelbase and Phantom, reflect two distinct groups of patron. The former are drawn to the formality of the ultimate chauffeur driven limousine, while the latter are lured by Phantom’s exceptional driving experience. Rankin’s playful and witty short film captures the younger and daring charisma of Phantom and displays a refreshing irreverence toward the expected codes of automotive luxury.” Rankin cast Gwendoline Christie, the English star of stage and screen, most recently known as Lady Brienne of Tarth in ‘Game of Thrones’ and Titania in London’s Bridge Theatre’s A ‘ Midsummer Night’s Dream’, as the heroine who takes to the wheel and puts Phantom through its paces. Herself a symbol of non-conformity and unapologetic success, Christie’s role boldly challenges preconceived impressions of Phantom owners. Rankin, commented, “Rolls-Royce is the ultimate July, 2019

British brand. Number one of one. Eight years ago I got the chance to drive Phantom when working on 'The Spirit of Ecstasy' centenary. It was the best driving experience of my life. Not only was it exhilarating, I actually felt like a rebel and a part of that iconic history. I realised that Rolls-Royce is the ultimate brand for a reason. Phantom’s got that attitude, that exhilarating and effortless wild side that you can enjoy from the second you start the engine.” He continued, “In my film with Gwen I wanted to express this one-of-a kind sensation, I wanted everyone to know exactly why Rolls-Royce are the best of the best and why Phantom is the icon. Everyone should try it.” Gwendoline Christie commented, “The RollsRoyce Phantom is a car of rare timelessness. It epitomises excellence in craftsmanship and authentic luxury in modern terms. Working with the legendary photographer Rankin and his team was a blast! They inherently respected the iconic status of this motor car and have vividly translated it with playful subversion, strength and humour. It is a true delight to be part of Rolls-Royce Iconography.” Rankin’s short film premiered on screens at this year’s Festival of Speed at Goodwood and can be viewed online at rolls-roycemotorcars.com from 4 July, 2019.

A few hours west of the city, the Gulf of Chiriquí lies along Panama’s Pacific coast, extending from the Costa Rican border to the west to the Azuero Peninsula on the east. The region is home to one of the largest coral reefs in the Pacific, one of the region’s richest mangrove forests and incredibly biodiverse ecosystems. It has beautiful beaches and two vast, protected marine parks. In nearby waters, Islas Secas unlocks access to an archipelago of 14 volcanic islands. With exceptional marine wildlife, thousands of species of wild fauna and flora and a littletouched, wonderfully rugged setting, this is one of Central America’s best kept secrets, far less explored than its Caribbean cousin. There are four individually-designed Casita sites, sleeping up to just 18 guests on one of the islands. Islas Secas is also powered by and in harmony with its surrounding environment: 100% of energy is solargenerated; 100% of food waste is recycled; 100% of waste water is re-used for irrigation; and 75% of the archipelago has been left untouched.

July, 2019

108 The experiences offered are wide and varied, with everything from world-class fishing to diving, snorkelling, seasonal whale watching, naturalist tours, private beach picnics, wake and paddle boarding and sea bobbing. The 20 miles between Islas Secas and the coast of mainland Panama allow endless scope to roam fish-storied waters, creating a ‘marine playground’ for its guests. The sea life that calls these temperate waters home includes parrotfish, angelfish, blue tang and eagle rays; humpback whales, hammerhead sharks and dolphins; and even the critically endangered Green Olive Ridley and Loggerhead sea turtles. For travellers with more of a thirst for adventure, it is also a year-round surfers’ hotspot with a fantastic combination of beach breaks, reef breaks and point breaks. Visitors can ride waves on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on the same day thanks to Panama’s narrow geography. Thirty minutes by boat from Islas Secas transports guests to Isla Silva de Afuera, where it is said the surf is better than in Costa Rica, and Islas Montuosa lies a little over an hour away with consistent deep-water waves reaching up to 25 feet on big swells.

FITNESS FIRST: 5 COOL YOGA POSES TO BEAT THE HEAT

116

The hot summer months are difficult to deal with but there is one form of exercise that can help you beat the heat – yoga. Yoga can help you cool off, stay focused, healthy and happy and help calm the mind with some very simple and yet effective practices, says Desmond Wong, Yoga Instructor at Fitness First. A good method to counter the hot, muggy weather is to draft a lunar current within your body by focusing on activities and foods which work to help cool the body. Here, Desmond Wong, Yoga Instructor at Fitness First gives his top tips on how specific yoga poses can help send calming waves through the nervous system and aid in the body’s attempt to self-regulate: www.theciin.com

117 1. Moon Salutation - The Moon Salutation, is a series of poses performed in a particular sequence to create a cooling flow of movement. Like the popular Sun Salutations, each pose in a Moon Salutation is coordinated with your breathing: Inhale to extend, and exhale to bend. But unlike Sun Salutations, which focus on heating and stimulating the body, Moon Salutations are cooling and quieting. They are used to calm the mind and to draw one’s awareness inwards. Moon Salutations are useful when temperatures are high and when a tranquil, quiet presence is required.

mild depression. Those with any form of neck injuries should practice this pose with caution, using folded blankets or towels for support beneath the shoulders to protect the cervical spine. 4. Seated Forward Fold - As a forward folding posture, the Seated Forward Bend pose helps to calm and relax. It can also help with stress, anxiety, insomnia, headaches, and mild depression. Physically, the pose stretches the spine, shoulders,

2. Supported Back Bends - Backbends can seem intimidating but you don’t have to be a contortionist or drop into a Full Wheel from standing to reap the heart and chest opening benefits this pose delivers. Possibly the hardest part about backbends is that they go against the natural way we hold and move our bodies. We slouch forward and move forward; backbends take us the opposite direction. They force us to be a bit vulnerable—essentially removing the shield that protects our hearts and emotions. 3. Supported Shoulder Stand Supported Shoulder Stand stretches the neck and shoulders and strengthens the legs, glutes, arms, and core. The pose also stimulates the abdominal organs and the thyroid gland, aiding with digestion and the regulation of hormones. It can also benefit those who suffer from anxiety, stress, and

and hamstrings, stimulates the internal organs, and can also improve digestion and help to ease menstrual discomfort. 5. Supine Twisting Posture - This pose is one of the go-to, end-of-class, postures. Since it helps to make the transition from the yang of practice, into the yin of Savasana, smooth and seamless. This pose is both calming and conducive for meditative, slow breathing, as well as being very healing in its own right.
