ELLIE GOULDING MARRIES CASPAR JOPLING IN CUSTOM CHLOÉ BY NATACHA RAMSAY-LEVI

010

hotographer Credit : Matt Porteous @Wedding_M Photo Credit : “Ellie Goulding & Caspar Jopling leave York Minster Cathedral following their wedding today in Yorkshire, England. Ellie wears a Chloé bespoke wedding dress designed by Natacha Ramsay-Levi, Caspar wears bespoke tailoring by Huntsman”.

Ellie Goulding states : « I was so thrilled and excited to collaborate with Natacha at Chloé on my wedding dress. I have loved the brand and their incredible team for years, so it only seemed right for Chloé to play big part of this special day. Natacha worked alongside me to design something timeless and classic, but with all the Chloé spirit. Natacha is a very talented designer and I have admired her work from day one. I have never felt more special than the moment I first tried on the dress during my fitting in Paris, it was utterly awe-inspiring to see the craftsmanship and attention to detail »

www.theciin.com

THE WEDDING DRESS The silk double crêpe white dress was hand embroidered with White Roses of York and subtly embellished with white glass beads. Doubled with a silk radzimir petticoat, the garment took more than 640 hours to construct and highlights the meticulous skill and savoir-faire of the Chloé Paris atelier.

THE VEIL As a final touch, the airy and delicate silk tulle veil and organza collar were embroidered with the bride and groom’s initials: E and C It took 591 hours for the petites mains to hand-make this creation

THE BRIDESMAIDS The bridesmaids also wore Chloé bespoke designs by Natacha Ramsay-Levi – pale blue dresses in silk cadi. Each one of them was embroidered with a tone-ontone organza braid, a detail from the Fall Winter 2019 runway collection for an elegant and graceful waistline.

" Ellie was very involved in the design of her wedding dress. Together we worked on a collage of references from the Victorian era that she wanted to weave into the design, in dialogue with the historical York cathedral where the ceremony was to take place. Her creative point of view made the process fluid and inspiring, and I feel that the end result really reflects her personal sense of style. I wish Ellie and Caspar a most magical wedding day and my best wishes for their future together ". ~says Natacha Ramsay-Levi.

adidas Football Launches Juventus Away Jersey for 2019/20 adidas today launches the new Juventus away jersey for the upcoming 2019/20 season, featuring a futuristic all over graphic and disruptive contradicting details for a bold new direction. The disruptive new away jersey's futuristic graphic sits on a core-white base inspired by the urban buildings and structures in Turin. The patterns of these buildings and the surrounding streets have been remixed to create something modern and fashionable for the new generation of Juventus fans and players. The core-white camouflaged patterns on the body of the jersey is in stark contrast to the hi-res red used on the detailing. This detailing across the club crest, adidas and sponsor logos, plus the sleeve cuffs, disrupts the flow of the graphic pattern. The effect mirrors the way in which the most creative players make bold moves on the pitch to change the flow of the game. August, 2019

Urban Outfitters offers a holistic shopping experience from the minute you step in store. A true embodiment of the UO culture, the store champions a youthful and original spirit through an authentic yet contemporary aesthetic. The raw, concrete-finished floor is complemented by high, exposed ceilings to create a modern-industrial atmosphere, accentuated by light wood and steel fixtures that flaunt clean lines and functional design. The storefront sets the scene with a lush green window display that celebrates the ‘UO Grow’ concept, with cascading planters providing a welcoming entrance. Along with dedicated areas for each product category, the space is further divided into key seasonal trends and permanent collections to include - a ‘graphic tee house’ which showcases a variety of much-coveted printed t-shirts, an exclusive ‘BDG denim shop’ for the brand’s best-selling styles and an ‘Urban Renewal’ display of vintage and clothing that has been remade using recycled fabrics. www.theciin.com

The House of Rolls-Royce is delighted to announce that media artist Refik Anadol will create a new work for the RollsRoyce Art Programme. The Turkish-born, LA-based artist will create a unique work of digital art using data sets relating to the colour of every Rolls-Royce motor car created at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West Sussex, over the last ten years. The artwork will be previewed at the House of RollsRoyce’s major philanthropic event, ‘Dine on the Line’, on 21 September 2019, to be held at the marque’s Global Centre of Luxury Manufacturing Excellence. The new commission will then be presented on permanent display at Rolls-Royce’s global headquarters, with an edition of the piece travelling to international showrooms from early 2020. The new artwork, entitled Art of Perfection: Data Painting, will consist of an LED ‘canvas’, conveying a unique data painting that uses a series of data sets taken from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ Surface Finish Centre. The data relates to the colour reference of each car produced over the past decade, combined with the data generated by the programmed robotic movement required to perfectly apply the surface finish to each car. The custom visuals created for this work have been precisely designed to complement the ‘canvas’ and surrounding space.

Zara pays homage to local craftsmanship, fabrics and organic flow at its new flagship store in Dubai Mall

033

Stretching nearly 5,000 metres over a single storey, the new store expands and enhances the brand’s offering and experience in the emblematic Dubai Mall, located in the capital’s city centre The relocation and expansion project echoes the essence of local fabrics and craftsmanship through its organic shapes and curves, articulated around a series of alcoves that bring the collections to the fore The establishment meets the Inditex Group’s eco-efficiency criteria and features Zara’s latest technology developments to ensure a seamlessly integrated shopping experience Dubai, 11 September 2019. Zara has opened the doors of its new flagship store in Dubai Mall, the emblematic shopping centre located in the capital’s city centre. The new store, essentially the relocation of Zara’s existing store in Dubai Mall, is an example of how the brand continually fine-tunes its sales footprint, selecting unique establishments in the world’s most prominent shopping areas. With a sales floor of nearly 5,000 square metres over a single storey, the new flagship store houses the full women’s, men’s and kids collections. The kids section also comes with an area that serves as both playroom and showroom with a screen built into the floor for interactive gaming and dedicated furniture. The establishment is articulated in the shape of a fan, with a concentric point from which different areas fan out to create compelling atmospheres throughout the store. Thanks to its studied commitment to organic shapes and a flowing series of ridge-free curves, the architectural project pays homage to the worlds of craft, fabric and primitive materials. This aesthetic continues throughout the store’s screens, which are notably curved. This novel language translates into how the brand’s collections are presented: they come to light in the recesses in the walls. The store fittings are designed to facilitate the customer journey through the store and create more amenable spaces. The lighting is subjective, finely picking out the garments and their backdrop. The choice of materials also contributes to this narrative, with its palette of brown and stone shades and matt finishes. August, 2019

A Lock To Love

034

For Fall Winter 2019, Chloé welcomes the Aby Lock, a new statement bag that builds upon the heritage of the iconic padlock signature that dates back to the Paddington from 2006. As a defining feature that links Chloé bags across time, the lock is being interpreted and applied in new, enchanting ways throughout the current Aby collection. Symbolic of love and secrets, of constancy and solidity, the lock has become quintessentially Chloé. The stylized padlock is at once functional and decorative, and speaks to savoir-faire. Playfully re-imagined as a lock-shaped minaudière, Aby Lock is enhanced with an engraved keyhole at the centre of its mirrored base, a metal top handle, and a dangling chain with a signature Key charm. At once timeless and personal, the design stands out as both a jewellery object and a whimsical, strongly symbolic Chloé accessory. www.theciin.com

AUDEMARS PIGUET’S NEW MILLENARY FROSTED GOLD PHILOSOPHIQUE This autumn, Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet encourages women to re-appropriate time. Inspired by the aesthetics of 17th-century singlehand timepieces, the new Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique tells time… philosophically! This design watch is a statement of creative freedom and free-spirited individuality. In defiance of the rush and frenzy of today’s world, the Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique puts time on women’s side, its single hand defying contemporary conventions of time measurement. As François-Henry Bennahmias explains, A “ t Audemars Piguet, we have always charted our own course, following our firm convictions and starting our independent trends, even during times of crisis. We continue today with our new Millenary Philosophique. This watch takes a break from the rushing minutes of our world and invites you to set your own tempo.” This abstract watch has been meticulously hand-finished by our watchmakers, in the highest respect of Audemars Piguet’s traditions. The 18-carat pink or white gold case presents alternating satin brushing and Frosted Gold finishing, a technique Audemars Piguet owes to Florentine jewellery designer Carolina Bucci. The diamond-dust effect it creates results from hours of meticulous micro-hammering. Adding a subtle touch of colour, the see-through caseback reveals the oscillating weight, which coloured plates recall the hand-crafted dimpled dial in shades of brown or blue. The single hour hand is polished and sand-blasted.

040

Adding to the current hand-wound collection, this watch is equipped with a new selfwinding movement, calibre 3140. This movement is endowed with a patented mechanism which ticks the hand around the dial in an elliptical trajectory. The hour wheel directly corresponds with a transparent disc on the dial, on which the single hand is mounted. This enables the hand to follow a clear trajectory despite the elliptical case.

Max Fashion is here to solve that problem with a brand new collection – Urban Tribes for young adults as well as a special Eid collection for women titled Femme Noir. Curated with the modern millennials in mind, this season's Urban Tribes collection is elevated with key, fashionable pieces that are ideal for layering and include new easy-to-wear silhouettes, shapes and prints, ensuring shoppers find the perfect look, every time. Before we get to the outfits, here are some quick tips for staying stylish when it is hot outside and cool inside: 1. Choose lightweight, light-colored and loose fitting clothing. Flowing garments allow air circulation and light-colored fabrics reflect light and heat. This will keep you cooler. 2. Go for lots of summery accessories. Earrings, shades, quirky bum bags – whatever you prefer. 3. Avoid dark colored heavy restrictive fabrics and clothing. 4. Sunglasses don’t only protect your eyes from the scorching sun, but can also act as fashion accessories to accent your look.

"Be a little bit selfish, love myself a little more, so I can fully love others and life."

August, 2019

Please introduce yourself to our readers I am a Sudanese-British fashion and beauty blogger, photographer, art director, and fashion designer. I used to live in London, but two years ago, I made a move to my homeland, Sudan. Tell us about your education Funnily enough, I studied medicine and was a practising orthopaedic surgeon in the UK for seven years before finally making a massive career shift to fashion and visual arts. While I was practising medicine, I completed courses in photography and art direction. And in 2017, I finally left the medical field..

046

Your childhood memories I have always been obsessed with fashion. My earliest childhood memories were watching my mom sewing Eid dresses for my sister and I. My mom was also a doctor, but she always made time to make us dresses from scratch every Eid. I learned to sew from my mother, and she learned from her mother. It was a skill passed down the family, and I treasured it. I was also a very odd child in that instead of watching cartoons, I was pinned in front of the TV, watching the fashion channel. This was very influential in teaching me about the freedom of selfexpression. I mean, these designers asked models to wear such ridiculous things! Still, it was how they felt, and they needed to show it. I loved that. When did you start blogging, and why? I started in 2016 but only took it up late-2017. It was fun, I could be myself, and I wanted to share myself, my love for fashion, and my art with the world. I also found it provided a platform for me to talk about mental illness, which I suffer from. Sharing and being open helps me cope with depression. I want other people to feel the same - that it's ok to experience mental illness, and it's no longer a taboo topic. What do you blog about? Fashion and personal style, coupled with self-insight and exploration. Do you think being a blogger has any negative perceptions? If so, why? It depends on your background: it can be difficult for families from certain cultures to understand what blogging is and how anyone could make it into a career. But times are changing, and more people accept it.

What challenges do you face being a female blogger in Khartoum? For me, it's the looks I get for my choice of wardrobe. I tend to go over the top sometimes with my outfits and hair. It was uncomfortable with people staring at first, but I'm more used to it now. What are your hobbies? I love travelling, exploring, cooking, trying new foods, and I enjoy painting and playing tennis. What motivates you every day? Waking up and feeling excited about a photoshoot I'm either modeling in, art directing, or shooting myself. I love visual art, and creating is what motivates me every day. . What is your passion and are you pursuing your passion? Other than creating, I'm very passionate about documentation and culture preservation; I'm working on a brand inspired by Sudan's cultural diversity. It will both celebrate and preserve the richness of the Sudanese culture.

Do you think Sudanese women are empowered enough? Yes, The Sudanese woman has always been empowered and ahead of her time. Starting from the first woman in parliament in an Arab country to being leaders of the revolution, Sudanese women have been influential in paving the course of the nation. The current transitional government led by PM Dr Abdulla Hamadok contains four women with impressive track records. Sudanese women have always thrived and will continue to do so. What is the change you want to see in yourself, and why? I want to be more active when it comes to improving myself. I tend to neglect my own needs and put my dreams aside for later. I believe this comes from a place of self-deprecation. I want to be a little bit selfish and love myself a little more so I can fully love others and life. What are your favorite fashion items that you can't live without? Oooh, that's a hard one! Definitely a choker, a bold lip color, a silk scarf, and a denim jacket. How do you prioritise your social time? We all know how busy diaries can get! I plan ahead, but sometimes I just let the moment take me, and I'll randomly decide to go out to meet friends! How do you find your inspiration – for work, and play? It just happens I think, I can be watching movies or talking to a friend, or even just looking at a wall, and I start thinking "I know what I wanna do!" and it happens! What is the most important lesson you've learned as a blogger? Always be kind, stay humble, and never lose yourself to please a crowd. You may be weird and different, and you may think you're alone, and no one would be interested, but there is always a crowd that needs you to be their voice! What are your favourite/best social media tools? Instagram, planoly for Instagram, and VSCO! Your message for us at CiiN magazine. I love your magazine, and I'd love to see you get bigger than life, and it has nothing to do with your name being the first letter of my name.

Having had to fight for their right to pursue a career of their choice, Saeed is now becoming a rising star in fashion photographer in the Middle East. Independence is a badge of honour for this photographer who gravitates to strong women for bold and colourful images and enjoys working with indie GCC fashion brands.

054

Can you tell us about yourself and how you started in photography? I'm a 30-year-old Emarati photographer, based out of Dubai, and totally obsessed with creating beautiful, haunting, bold and colorful images. I adore having strong characters in my work, especially women. Each model has a role. For me, it was an organic start. I wanted to be a fashion designer as a child but grew up with the influence of music videos. I had a bigger love for fashion imagery. I didn't understand it at the time, but I knew I wanted to do something along those lines. At what point did you realize that photography is what you wanted to do as a career? I was told it was a hobby. Fighting against everyone and everything was a choice I made as I couldn't see myself doing anything else. It truly was a love I had from the start as a child. How would you describe your work to someone who has never seen it? Very bold and loud, even when it's subtle. Very colorful. I tend to make everything look as though it's shiny. Just very hyperreal.

collaborate and let the project and photos come organically. Some people want control over every little thing which takes away from the process. What does fashion mean to you? Fashion to me is iconography that documents a period in time. Where do you get your creative inspiration? Research is a great part of my work. Music too. Both combined together are an integral aspect of what I do. Also, it's very important that I define a character for the photos. Since I prefer to shoot in the studio in a conceptual setting, a strong defined character is important. What projects are you working on now? There are a few projects on the line. I work with a lot of indie GCC fashion brands. It allows for creative experimentation. How do you keep yourself motivated and your photography fresh? I honestly do what I feel like doing and try to keep away from trends.

What was your first paid assignment and what is your most memorable assignment? I don't even remember that! It's been a long time, but I know I started working for free!

You are working mostly with people, so what is the secret behind to get a good expression or pose from them? If the model is comfortable and trusts me then everything works out. The model is the main star.

What are the biggest challenges of working in this region? I find it very challenging working with individuals who allow themselves to

How much equipment do you typically bring to a photo-shoot? Each project has its needs honestly. I

decide on the spot. Of all the images you’ve made so far in your career, which is your favorite and why? I love images that come naturally. Nothing in particular honestly. I love them all. What’s the most important thing you want potential clients to know about you? Trust that I can do a good job. They come to me for a reason. How much time do you spend taking photos, versus retouching photos? It's important we get EVERYTHING CORRECT on set. Camera retouching is NOT manipulation. But I try to keep around 15 percent for possible retouching. Less is best! What's the most important thing that photography has taught you? Patience! And that if you blink you might miss “THE photo”. It takes one photo to make it happen. You can only have one lens for the rest of your life, what is it? I don't care about the lenses! Lighting is key! If you had one piece of advice for anyone. What would it be? Find your signature. Have fun on set. Don't take yourself too seriously. Your message for CiiN? More success to you!

ATELIER COLLECTIONS BY S.T.DUPONT: UNPARALLELED HERITAGE EXPERTISE SINCE 1872

From patinated leather…

S.T.Dupont has relaunched a collection of leather goods featuring patinated leather, the colours and contrasts of which call on the Maison’s very first form of expertise. The art of patina is carried out entirely by hand, lends colours shades and contrasts beyond compare and meticulous attention at every stage.

The art of patina

056

The art of patina is carried out entirely by hand. Adding to its A “ rt of Secret”, it involves meticulous attention at every stage. The process of skin selection is the very first evidence. Only the purest specimens are accepted, which are prepared using a completely natural method of vegetable tanning to reveal the full intensity of the colour. Sourced from mineral pigments only, the colour is then applied with constant care and precision. Like a gentle caress, it heightens the light in its centre and produces the rarest and most precious tones. This meticulous and remarkable stage enhances the contrasts of each object. Each piece acquires its very own, exclusive shade. More than a signature, this is the essence of S.T.Dupont.

GANT LAUNCHES FW19 COLLECTION Celebrating 70 years of preppiness This Fall/Winter 2019, GANT celebrates its 70th anniversary with a unique collection that salutes the brand’s seven preppy icons it has perfected from the very beginning. The men's and women's collections, which launch across all GANT stores this August, seek to blend timeless pieces with new modern essentials that balance business with leisure and explores the magic that happens when city and country lifestyles unite in one outfit. According to Karen Vogele, EVP of Product and Design for GANT, the days of suits in the office and casual wear on the weekends are gone. Instead, pieces are now mixed and matched, making the clothes work for the occasion and not the other way around. “We have curated a collection where our iconic pieces like the ‘TP Heavy Rugger’, the ‘GANT Varsity Jacket’, and the ‘Cable Knit’ are mixed with back-to-work staples that have been reinvented to better suit our consumer needs. Think beautiful machine-washable blazers paired with graphic sweatshirts or a modern waxed jacket worn with a dress. We are bringing the country to the city by mixing the best of yesterday with the relevance of today,” Vogele said. A hallmark of quality, essential pieces from the men’s line include the ‘TP Heavy Rugger’ in a tonal Breton stripe, the washable ‘Check Blazer’ presented in four autumnal checks, tailored in an Italian wool blend fabric with flannel finishing for a signature preppy everyday statement, and the ‘Coastal Duffel’ made from a wool blend double-faced fabric, with a beautifully lined check on the inside and a tonal color on the outside. Layer up in the cold with a cozy knitted sweater, a soft blazer and the ‘Coastal Duffel’.

061

As the holiday season draws near, GANT launches a small collection that celebrates the feminine line with sleek tailoring, elegant dresses, and graceful blouses paired with fluid skirts. Key pieces from the women’s collection include the ‘Ladies Who Launch’ sweater made to embrace strong and independent women, the ‘Waxed Cropped Jacket’, a fashion-forward twist on a very classic outerwear piece, and finally, the ‘Plisse Sleeve Shirt’, the perfect occasion blouse as well as a preppy and feminine office shirt. The colour palette for the season features rich olives and forest greens with new shades of university clubhouse hues like sporty reds along with vibrant yellows and deep burgundy. As a brand that grew up along the American East Coast, GANT celebrates all shades of blue, ranging from rich navy tuxedos and bold checks alongside festive prints to make the party even preppier. Stripes and checks play a significant role within the collection as well. Through vertical and horizontal stripes with bold check patterns, GANT pays homage to its American sportswear roots. Van Cleef & Arpels Brume De Saphir Collection Light And Color Seeking its muse in the changing colors of the waves as the hours go by, Van Cleef & Arpels created Brume de saphir, two High Jewelry ensembles inspired by the Palmyre collection. A surge of blue or pink, reflections on the water seem to come alive in a stream of light.

www.theciin.com

For this collection, Van Cleef & Arpels interpreted the sea’s changing colors over the day through a nuanced palette of stones. The Maison’s expert gemologists endeavored to assemble sapphires in three paired groups according to color, from lightest to darkest. Each stone was chosen for its intensity and quality of crystallization, making for delicate harmonies that call to mind dazzling reflections on the surface of the water. The diamonds set in the different pieces were all selected according to the strictest criteria: D to F for color and IF to VVS2 for clarity. They enrich necklaces, earrings and bracelets with their sparkle.

063

Brume de saphir creations draw their inspiration from the Palmyre High Jewelry collection, created in 1978. Set throughout with diamonds, Palmyre pieces sparkle like drops of water from the Oasis of Palmyra, a treasure in the midst of the desert. The collection perpetuates one of Van Cleef & Arpels’ great traditions: classic High Jewelry created to highlight the natural beauty of diamonds by blending their sparkle with the gleam of precious metal. Throughout the decades, the Maison has reinterpreted this custom, designing collections that have since become emblematic, such as Snowflake, Olympia and À Cheval. This year, the Maison is once again enriching its permanent High Jewelry collections with the colorful Brume de saphir creations.

Its striking design is inspired by the diverse and vibrant natural locale - from the rugged mountain range to the vast Omani desert, the sparkling bay to the azure waters of the Arabian Sea. Colorful hints of Muscat’s vibrant culture are interspersed throughout the spaces to evoke the mystery and adventure of the city’s rich heritage and storied past. W Muscat is a bold remix of traditional charm, natural beauty and the disruptive W DNA.

Welcoming guests upon arrival is a striking, nine-ton frankincense tree sculpture designed by renowned artist Pongsatat Uaiklang that pays tribute to Omani culture. Standing at an impressive 10 meters tall, the piece is made of solid stainless steel, welded from 28 winding pieces. In traditional Omani culture, frankincense was used to bless and welcome weary travelers after their long journeys. In that same tradition, guests are then ushered into the inviting Living Room (W’s signature take on the lobby) where they can relax and unwind in an Arabic Majlis, beneath an oversized installation of the Omani Kummas, chic headgears that are unmistakable marks of the Omani attire. Whether looking for a re-energizing iced tea or a cocktail, The Living Room is the perfect venue to see and be seen.

Hit Escape All of the 279 guestrooms and suites at W Muscat provide uninterrupted views of the glistening blue water, with their design drawing inspiration from the ocean as well as the asymmetrical lines of the nearby mountains, caves and desert. These are contrasted with art deco detailing, reminiscent of traditional Omani charm. Asymmetrical corridors across the floors depict an artistic theme of ‘every girl

Designed for an extra spacious and edgy stay is the EWOW suite (the brand’s take on the traditional Presidential Suite) which features subtle Arabic characteristics with a distinctive W edge. The corner Majlis seating showcases a Zanzibar-inspired print, a nod to the Omani Kumma or headgear, set against an inviting coffee table in celebration of Arabic coffee or Qahwa. The ceiling features tilted white paneling, evoking the intimacy of relaxing inside a tent. A saddle-like leather chair, bold mustard yellow stool, and faux fur wall are inspired by horse or camelback travel. Stacked luggage trunks comprise the MIXBAR (the W spin on the minibar) while a trunk closet lined with exotic silk links back to the narrative of the nomad.

An enormous 1800 sqm beachfront pool offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Oman and forms part of the W brand’s iconic WET experience. Here, guests can swim, soak up the sun and enjoy signature beverages while listening to live DJ performances. WET is the hottest place to cool off, take a dip, make a splash, and get your glow on. W Muscat will be hosting a FUEL Weekend in October - the W brand’s signature fitness and wellness retreat - where WET will take center stage. FUEL guests can expect next level, energysoaked celebrity workouts, killer parties and delicious beverage and food offerings all

The highly anticipated Siddharta Lounge By Buddha-Bar makes an Oman debut at W Muscat, bringing its signature flair for culinary prowess and inventive mixology to the rooftop restaurant and lounge. Overlooking the sweeping coastline of Shatti Al Qurum, the space interlocks both indoor and outdoor venues and celebrates the story of Bedouin travelers through innovative design and artistic representation. The Escape’s AWAY® Spa offers 10 treatment rooms, a steam room, a hammam and a couples’ treatment room. The design is inspired by the ancient ritual of stargazing where guests are enveloped under a bejeweled night sky with the intimacy of cave-like comfort. With an enticing spa menu, a Beauty Bar for touch-ups and ‘quick fix’ treatments, AWAY® Spa is perfect for all-day relaxation or a quick glam session before a night out. from a daytime respite for lounging and relaxing amongst gorgeous views to a scenesetting hotspot when the sun goes down and the music turns up. The concept builds on the adventurous and inventive spirit of George V Eatertainment from Raymond and Tarja Visan. Siddharta Lounge By Buddha-Bar promises a packed calendar of events focused on social dining, electro-ethnic music and the best of the Mixologist’s cabinet. HARVEST offers guests greener, lighter, fresher and brighter options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu is designed using locally sourced produce and rotating specialties including an exclusive coffee roasted locally in Oman. The restaurant is sprinkled with silver beads inspired by the trade of pearl fishing. CHAR, as the name suggests, dares to defy the traditional grill house, where everything and anything meets the flame. Without hesitation or constraints, the décor embodies an Omani Dhow with tug rope lighting adorning the ceiling and wallside signal beams as if the space were at sea. Evocative of 1930s Shanghai, Ba Ban named after Chinese opera-like music, fuses Chinese aesthetics and modern eastern style. The menu transforms dishes from the kitchens of China, capturing the spirit of Shanghai from pre-revolution to modern times. From a Peking Duck to dim-sum bar to egg tarts, this sophisticated restaurant reflects memories of “life around the Bund,” drawing inspiration from the back alleys of Shanghai.

It’s best in class 2680mm wheelbase contributes to the compact dimensions that emphasise the dynamic styling of the sedan. The large touchscreen sits at the centre of the MG5’s ‘yachtstyle’ dashboard, which features leather upholstery and soft-touch trim on top-of-the-range

www.theciin.com

Making life with the MG5 easy, cruise control is standard on all models, while keyless entry and push start ignition are available on top-ofthe-range models for a quick and easy start to any journey. The new trim is also available with a smart, 360-degree surround-view camera and parking sensors.

No compromise on comfort

Thanks to its clever design, the MG5 compact sedan boasts best-in-class interior space. At 4601mm long, 1818mm wide, 1489mm high, and with a 2680mm wheelbase, the new model is both comfortable and spacious. With a focus on well-being, whilst maintaining comfort and style both front seats are electrically adjustable – the driver’s seat benefits from six-way adjustment with manual lumbar support, while the passenger seat features a four-way power adjustment. The rear seats offer unrivalled levels of comfort and space thanks to their ergonomic design. For optimum interior comfort, the MG5’s air conditioning system has been extensively tested to master the challenging weather conditions that prevail in the Gulf region. An electric sunroof also floods the cabin with natural light.

105

Up to 29 conveniently placed compartments around the cabin offer easy stowage in everyday use, while the MG5’s boot has been designed with a low floor and wide aperture for hassle-free loading. The exceptionally roomy 512-litre boot can accommodate two 28inch suitcases, one 24-inch suitcase and one 20-inch suitcase.

Unbeatable performance and efficiency

The MG5 comes with a dynamic yet efficient 1.5L petrol engine that delivers maximum power of 110hp at 6,000 rpm and up to 150 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, positioning it ahead of its key competitors. The MG5 engine management system developed by BOSCH features a Dual Cooling Cycle that increases overall engine efficiency and longevity. Its efficient CVT gearbox delivers smooth gear shifts while constantly adapting to the car’s performance to deliver a fuel consumption figure of just 5.5L/100 km, subject to driving conditions. Bringing the MG5’s personality to life, the compact sedan uses MG’s XDS system for enhanced cornering, a choice of three steering modes and ESP traction control across all trim levels. The flagship LUX model is fitted with Michelin tyres for superior handling.

A strong focus on safety

Despite its compact sedan dimensions, the MG5 is big on safety and has been received a 5 Star CNCAP Safety Rating. The hightensile steel cage-style body and the use of advanced laser brazing technology enhance overall body strength and stiffness. There are up to six airbags, depending on trim, including two curtain airbags and standard ISOFIX fittings with seat belt reminder for child safety. The availability of an auto-hold function, electric parking brake, ABS, EBD and corner brake control serve to reinforce that safety is a priority in the new MG5. In total, there are 13 active safety features. Security has not been overlooked, and remote central locking is standard across the range.

The Ferrari F8 Spider: the evolution of the species The mid-rear-engined drop-top powered by the most successful Ferrari V8 ever

106

www.theciin.com

Ferrari has unveiled the F8 Spider, the new generation drop-top sports car equipped with the most successful mid-rear-mounted V8 in history. The Ferrari F8 Spider was designed in parallel with the F8 Tributo berlinetta and features the Prancing Horse’s compact and efficient RHT (Retractable Hard Top) which influences the lines of a model that leads its category.

T

he F8 Spider is the latest addition to an exclusive and prestigious bloodline of open-top V8 cars begun with the 308 GTS in 1977. It is less extreme than the 488 Pista Spider, but sportier than the 488 Spider which it replaces in the range.

Consequently, the F8 Spider sets a new benchmark for the “en plein air” sports car in terms of usable performance and exceptional handling, providing an incredibly rewarding driving experience. In fact, it excels in merging handling dynamics with surprising in-car comfort. This Ferrari spider thus combines the characteristics of the most lauded 8-cylinder engine in history with unparalleled driving pleasure. The V8 has raised the performance bar to unprecedented new heights, not only for turbo engines but power units of all types. The engine is a development of the V8 that won the “International Engine of the Year Award” for four consecutive years (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019) and that was also selected as the best engine of the last two decades. An incredible feat unmatched in the history of the Awards. The F8 Spider’s greatest achievement is the fact that it unleashes its power instantaneously with zero turbo lag, whilst retaining this V8’s unique and very special soundtrack. This astonishing performance and the car’s disarmingly effortless handling were made possible by integrating a series of innovative, track-derived aero solutions into its design. The mission of every new model produced by Maranello is to introduce new design features and outperform its predecessors on all fronts. The challenge the engineers and designers always face is to push their own creative limits and the boundaries of technology by introducing new, leading-edge solutions and setting new levels of excellence. This is something they have done to brilliant effect once again with this new model. The F8 Spider replaces the 488 Spider and improves on all aspects of its specifications: aside from the fact that its engine delivers an extra

50 cv, the new Ferrari is 20 kg lighter than its predecessor. It weighs just 20 kg more than the more extreme 488 Pista Spider. The F8 Spider is significantly more aerodynamically efficient, too and features the new 6.1 version of the Side Slip Angle Control system.

ENGINE In the automotive world, Ferrari’s V8 engine is seen as the very epitome of sportiness and driving pleasure. This is particularly the case when it is mid-rear-mounted in a two-seater. Ferrari has been honing the scope of this architecture to perfection for over four decades as it optimally balances weight for perfect handling dynamics. The V8’s technical specifications are truly exceptional. The 3902 cc unit unleashes 720 cv at 8,000 rpm and also has an impressive specific power output of 185 cv/l. Its maximum torque is now higher at all engine speeds, peaking at 770 Nm at 3,250 rpm. Today, Ferrari V8s incorporate solutions so refined they are effectively masterpieces of engineering. This power unit in particular further enhances the typical traits of all Maranello engines with smoothly progressive, limitless acceleration and zero turbo lag, combined with a unique soundtrack courtesy of a new exhaust system. The new car offers drivers pure emotions. Instantaneously accessible power is matched by exceptional handling thanks to advanced vehicle dynamics solutions. These include a new version of the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (FDE+) which can now be activated in the manettino’s RACE position, a move designed to make performance on the limit easier to reach and control. To achieve the 50 cv increase in power compared to the 488 Spider, the new intake line is derived directly from the 488 Challenge. In the F8 Spider, the air intakes have been moved from the flanks to the rear where they are located on either side of the blown spoiler and are directly connected to the intake plenums. This drastically reduces losses and ensures greater air flow to the engine, thereby increasing the power. The air flow also benefits from increased dynamic pressure created by the shape of the rear spoiler.

DESIGN

tail, another styling cue from the early 8-cylinder berlinettas like the very first in the legendary series, the 308 GTB.

Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the F8 Spider continues the direction embarked upon with the F8 Tributo which acted as a bridge to a new design language that will continue to emphasise Ferrari’s key characteristics of high performance and extreme aerodynamic efficiency.

The treatment of the engine cover is one of the F8 Spider’s most distinctive characteristics. The manta-like look of the cover is created by a central spine that starts from the rear screen and disappears under the wing of the blown spoiler, following the air flows themselves.

When designing a spider, the choice of the top will always play a fundamental role in the car’s overall look. For some years now, Ferrari has been adopting a hard top because of the comfort it provides. As a result, the design of the F8 Spider’s lines was crafted around its RHT (Retractable Hard Top). The key to the whole design was the shifting of the separation line between the car’s body and the roof from its conventional position at the belt-line (occupant shoulder level) to above the B-pillar. The top itself is thus more compact and two-dimensional, with the result that it can be divided into two parts and stowed on top of the engine. The RHT takes just 14 seconds to deploy or retract and can be closed or opened while the car is on the move up to 45 km/h.

EXTERIOR The goal the Ferrari Styling Centre set with the F8 Spider was to design a stylistic tribute to the Ferrari V8 engine, by evolving the contents of the F8 Tributo and taking inspiration from the most iconic mid-rearengined V8 sports cars in Ferrari history. The result is a car with a strong personality of its own through an even sportier design clearly inspired by the car’s advanced aerodynamics. The front view of the car is characterised by the S-Duct around which the entire front end has been redesigned to highlight the extensive aerodynamic modifications made to this area of the car. The clearest example is new, more compact, horizontal LED headlights. The rear spoiler has been entirely redesigned. It is now larger and wraps around the tail lights, visually lowering the car’s centre of gravity and allowing a return to the classic twin light cluster and body-coloured

August, 2019

COCKPIT The F8 Spider’s cockpit retains the classic, driver-oriented look typical of Ferrari’s mid-rear-engined berlinettas. A concept that creates a symbiotic relationship between driver and car, very much as happens in F1, with all controls mounted on the new generation steering wheel. The sporty seats are also new. The dash incorporates an aluminium sail panel supporting the central satellite and continuing into the dash itself. Also to create a sense of visual lightness, a sliver of carbon fibre divides the upper and lower parts, streamlining the whole look. This section also incorporates the optional 7” touchscreen passenger-side display and the dash is completed by the classic instrument cluster with its central rev-counter. The tunnel is clearly separated from the dash and set beneath it, once again to enhance the sensation of lightness that the car’s interior exudes. It features a new bridge, a prominent sculptural creation that seems to float and thus further streamlines the cabin.

AERODYNAMICS The F8 Spider has taken state-of-the-art aerodynamic solutions and innovations from Ferrari’s GT and Challenge racing experience, and moulded them into the production mid-rear-engined drop-top that makes the highest level of performance accessible to drivers of all abilities.

OCTOLA

A Rare Arctic Privilege in Finnish Lapland Imagine having 300+ hectares of private wilderness within the Arctic Circle to yourself, no light pollution and the mighty Northern Lights are dancing in the sky; imagine breathing the world’s cleanest air and drinking the purest water. Imagine leaving the cares and stresses of your world behind and immersing yourself in nature, whilst having the luxury of total privacy and personalized services to cater to your every need. This is what Janne Honkanen has created with Octola Private Wilderness, a 10 Suite log cabin recently completed within the Finnish Arctic Circle where the Northern Lights can be witnessed over the period of September to April.

Janne, the CEO of Arctic Region Travel Operator, Luxury Action, is a pioneer of experiential travel within the Arctic Circle. Having searched for the perfect accommodation to offer his most discerning clients wishing to experience the Arctic Circle, he finally decided to build it himself.

plants, berries, mushrooms and fish, all local, pure and ecologically gathered from nature to your table by your own Michelin star Chef complemented by wines chosen by one of the top sommeliers in Finland. All arrangements are tailormade to suit the individual guest and Janne had Middle East guests in mind when designing the cabin. “I am extremely grateful and happy for our returning Middle East guests, because without them, we would not have built Octola. The entire Private Wilderness is designed to meet the needs of our most discerning guests who require the utmost privacy”, said Janne.

The concept initially sounds somewhat contradictory, isolation and seclusion but with every luxury provided, but in fact, it provides the perfect escape for those who are looking for something different, something meaningful and providing total immersion in nature. The result is a 10-suite log cabin in the middle of the Arctic wilderness. Outside the cabin, 300+ hectares of wilderness, reindeer and wildlife; pure nature with only custom-built snowmobiles to help you manoeuvre your way around, whilst inside, every luxury one could possibly ask for.

Joonas Halla from Visit Finland added “Our Finnish wilderness, within the Arctic Circle, provides an escape from everyday life, an oasis of peace and tranquility and an opportunity to connect with nature in a very special way; a passion we share with the Arab way of connecting to the desert.”

Whether you book the entire cabin of 10 suites, or take a wing of 6 or 4 suites, the rates are all inclusive and allow you to be taken care of by a team of discreet local staff trained to meet your every need, including a private butler and a wilderness guide. A private gym and fitness centre, unique hand carved wood-burning sauna and the freshest food cooked to your liking.

Janne Honkanen’s vision is to create a destination that will give you the best return on investment on today’s most valuable asset; your time; and for Octola to give you back something that money cannot buy; an experience that touches your heart.

The food is all sourced locally according to the 8 Arctic seasons of Lapland and consisting mainly of game, wild

You’re known as the pioneer of the Zodiac, dear Ram. Like Star Trek, going where you’ve never been before is your thing. Lead, follow or get out of my way is your mantra. Once you’ve met the challenge, it’s on to the next thing. Details and efficiency are usually not your forte. Yet on August 10 when Mars, your guardian angel planet, cycles into Virgo, the most productive sign in the zodiac, you’ll need to slow down, so you can catch up with yourself. You get this chance once every two years to dot all your I’s and cross all your T’s to make sure that your desires manifest.

August 2 is a special day for you, as Venus, your ruling planet, returns to where she was when she retrograded on May 17. It should be crystal clear now what is important in your relationships… what brings you pleasure and what doesn’t. How you share love in your one-on-one connections with others will become apparent. Are you adding an energy that is happy and uplifting to those around you? And are they adding a positive energy to your life? At the very least, your deeper understanding of the value of your relationships brings you great joy now. On August 7, Venus leaves Gemini, the airy sign of communication, and flows into Cancer, the most sensitive sign in the zodiac.

You finally have clarity about what you really love, value and appreciate and what brings you pleasure. On August 2, Venus, your guardian angel planet, returns to 26 degrees of Gemini, where she was when she retrograded on May 17. It’s been a long haul, dear Taurus, and has taken every bit of your patience, persistence and determination to hang in there with yourself. Venus finally completes her four month journey in Gemini, the sign of communication, and new talents in speaking and writing may have emerged lately.

120

Even though Pluto, the planet of power and transformation and your guardian angel planet, doesn’t move forward again until August 30, you’ll be feeling the magic of rebirth all through this month. It’s time to come out of the cave you’ve been in since March 24 when Pluto began its retrograde journey. This has been a time of healing and regeneration for you, dear Scorpio. As the month goes on, it should become clearer where you are with true power versus control in your relationships.

Ouch! Your relationships have turned you every which way but loose in the last five months. As an air sign, you usually prefer to keep things on the light side, dear Gemini, and digging deep into your partner’s psyche and feeling the intensity of them wanting more from you is not really comfortable for you. Yet in the last few months, you’ve been initiated into the depths of relationships as Pluto has been retrograde in your 7th house, the house of partnership. If things have felt out of control and the word ‘powerless’ comes to mind, know that it’s about trusting and surrendering to a power greater than yourself.

It’s been a bit challenging for you this year, dear Archer, with Jupiter, your ruling planet in Virgo, the sign of efficiency, productivity and minutia, because you prefer the BIG picture. As the eternal student of the zodiac, you have probably honed certain skills and learned new techniques in your job. The adventure for you is in the details now. And with Pluto in your sign moving forward on the 30th, you’re really feeling your oats now and are unstoppable as you become more comfortable with expressing your power.

You’ve been learning a lot about where your true security and safety come from, dear Moon child, and that it’s high time to be your own very best mommy and daddy. You are the most emotional sign in the zodiac and with Saturn transiting in Cancer (which only happens every thirty years) you feel a greater selfdiscipline and can be more responsible for what you’re feeling, yes, ALL your feelings.

Venus enters your relationship arena, on the 7th, when she flows into emotional Cancer. Normally invulnerable and reserved by nature, dear mountain goat, your relationships require you to show your feelings and your sensitivity now. It may be a stretch at first but you’ll get the hang of it. Just don’t take it on as another obligation, should or have to. And although usually reserved, disciplined and somewhat business-like in nature, you may even like it. Even though it’s uncharacteristic and may feel uncomfortable at first, allow your softer side to emerge as you nurture others and allow yourself to be nurtured.

This is your month to shine! You are the star, the producer and the director of the Zodiac. No one knows more about their magical inner child than you, dear Lion. When it comes to love, generosity of spirit and an open heart, you’re a natural. You instinctively know that when you’re having fun, your heart is wide open. You’re easy to spot in any crowd with that big cheshire grin from ear to ear. It’s time to celebrate you and celebrate life, especially around August 15, at the Leo New Moon. When you decide what you want to create at your own New Moon, ask yourself two important questions: Is this fun and can I express more of me?

The focus is on relationships for you this month, oh rebel of the zodiac, as the Sun in fiery Leo cycles through your 7th house. There are probably lots of folks pulling at you and wanting your attention. The important question is what do YOU want to create in your relationships now, as the New Moon in Leo on the 15th is an opportunity to plant the seeds for that which you desire. And as good as that sounds, you may not know exactly what you want now as Uranus, your guardian angel planet, has been in retrograde since June 10.

You know you can sometimes feel inadequate and that you’re not doing it right when despite your every effort things don’t seem to turn out perfectly. Well, dear Virgo, you Good Samaritan of the zodiac, this is not one of those times. It’s time for you to cash in and reap what you have sown over the last twelve years as Jupiter, the planet of growth and expansion, has been in your sign since last August. Believe that everything you touch can turn to gold, especially after the 10th, when Mars, the warrior planet, begins its sojourn in Virgo until September 26

With expansive, benevolent Jupiter, one of your two guardian angel planets (Neptune is the other one) transiting your 7th house for the last year, the spotlight has been on your connections with others. If you know of a workshop or seminar on relationships, sign up for it, because the more you can learn about what really attracts you and why, the happier you’ll be. If committed romantic partnership is something you desire, and as an idealistic, romantic Pisces I would be surprised if you didn’t, the Universe has heard your call and it’s time for you to cash in because you deserve it.
