Virtuoso V

Jumping hours, retrograde minutes

and reversed hand-fitting

013

Decorated with a flamboyant red guillochĂŠ dial Virtuoso V houses a jumping hour movement paired with retrograde minutes and a reversed hand-fitting. The Maison's artisan watchmakers and dial-makers have joined forces to give it a new face. The dial occupies the entire surface of the movement, giving the piece a new identity. While the watchmakers worked on displaying all the information on the same level, the dial-makers designed a completely original guillochĂŠ motif for the dial. The original stepped arrangement has given way to greater classicism, which enhances the artistic crafts and exemplary finishes of all the components. The dial-makers drew on their considerable talent to create this new face. After decorating the metal base with a guillochĂŠ motif, they applied a dozen layers of translucent red lacquer, before finally polishing it to give a perfectly flat surface. This created depth and enchanting reflections that give the timepiece its magic. In addition to the concentrated technical skill and artistry emanating from the timepiece, its design has become purer and its readability even greater.

theAGENDA GET LADY GAGA’S “FUTURISTIC OLD HOLLYWOOD GLAM” LOOK

SPOTTED In MANGO! Prianka Chopra & Linda Tol

016 Prianka Chopra spotted in New York wearing a double-breasted structured blazer by MANGO and Linda Tol seen during London Fashion Week sporting the double-breasted blazer with leather high-leg boots, both by MANGO.

For the Los Angeles premiere of A Star Is Born, Sarah Tanno used Marc Jacobs Beauty to create Lady Gaga’s “Futuristic Old Hollywood Glam” red carpet look that featured classic makeup elements that were amped up with glitter and metallics. Sarah first primed Gaga’s eyes with Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Eye Primer before gently tapping a small amount of the new See-Quins Glam Glitter Eyeshadow in Flashlight, an icy opal shade, with her fingertip and then blending over the entire lid so it looked like a fine veil of twinkling glitter. Next, she dipped a liner brush in water and lined her eyes with Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette in Smartorial in the shade In Doubt, a metallic silver, to enhance the finish. Sarah then added a small metallic foil to the center of Gaga’s eyes to mimic her custom Givenchy dress. She finished the eye look with a few coats of Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara for super full and fluffy lashes. For the lips, Sarah applied Le Marc Lip Crème Lipstick in Oh Miley, a strawberry spice shade, and then blotted down the color to a matte finish for a classic red pout.

THE LARGEST FANCY VIVID PINK DIAMOND OFFERED AT ANY CHRISTIE’S AUCTION

Rami Malek in Givenchy at Clash de Cartier Event

JULIANNE MOORE WEARS CHLOÉ

The House of Givenchy is pleased to announce actor Rami Malek wore a Givenchy Fall 2019 outfit, designed by Clare Waight Keller, to the Clash de Cartier event held on April 10th, 2019 at la Conciergerie in Paris, France.

On 13 November 2018, Christie’s Geneva will present THE PINK LEGACY, the largest and finest Fancy Vivid Pink diamond ever offered at auction by the company. Weighing just under 19 carats (18.96 carats), this exceptional rectangular-cut gem will lead Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction, held at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva. This incomparable pink diamond, has descended from the Oppenheimer Family and is estimated at US $30 to $50 million. Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Jewellery commented: “The discovery of this previously un-recorded and remarkable diamond will cause immense excitement with collectors and connoisseurs of diamonds around the world. The Pink Legacy will be exhibited on a global tour prior to being auctioned on 13 November at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues. Its exceptional provenance will no doubt propel it into a class of its own as one of the world’s greatest diamonds.” The Pink Legacy has been awarded the highest diamond color grading of VIVID by the Gemological Institute of America. Vivid coloured diamonds are the most strongly saturated gems, displaying the optimum hue of the stone. It is a classic rectangular cut diamond, a cut that is traditionally used for white stones, and weighs an extraordinary 18.96 carats when most pink diamonds of this colour weigh less than a carat. The Pink Legacy is also internally very pure which is extremely rare in pink diamonds where the colour is formed by pressure and slippage of the crystal lattice which typically causes imperfections in the stone. “Pink diamonds of any size and depth of colour have always had a special allure even amongst knowledgeable industry members. The 18.96 carat emerald cut pink diamond is amongst the rarest of all gemstones.” Tom Moses, Executive Vice President GIA In addition, it classifies as a Type IIa diamond, which contains little if any nitrogen and accounts for less than two percent of all gem diamonds. Type IIA stones are some of the most chemically pure diamonds, often with exceptional transparency and brilliance. One of the most celebrated pink diamonds is the “Williamson” found in the Williamson mine situated near Tanzania in 1947. It was gifted as a wedding present by Dr. John Williamson, the owner of the mine, to the Queen, then Princess Elizabeth. In the saleroom fancy vivid pink diamonds over ten carats are virtually unheard of and only four vivid pink diamonds of over ten carats have ever been offered for sale at auction. An historic level was reached in the international diamond market in November 2017 when Christie’s Hong Kong sold ‘The Pink Promise’, an oval-shaped fancy vivid pink diamond of just under fifteen carats for US$32,480,500 (U$2,175,519 per carat), which established and remains the world auction record price per carat for any pink diamond.

Tell us more about yourself? Well, I'm a Bahraini citizen from Al Muharraq, that's where I was born and raised. I have done a lot in my life. I went through a lot of different fields but the main has always been modeling and sports. I'm committed to sports and have been an athlete since I have been a kid.

Tell us about your education. I have completed my A-Levels and learned and studied level two and three in personal training (science and health). I speak three languages. I have learned Urdu and soon I'm going to start to learn Danish during the next two years.

Your fondest childhood memories. well I have always been adventurous trying different things. I became independent at the age of 16 starting with small jobs. I was assigned for a football professional team for women in Bahrain and I also participated in various marathons (of course won them al!l ha..ha..). 024

You are a fitness trainer and an advocate of fitness. How did it all happen? Like I mentioned earlier I think it runs in the family. My mother used to be a gymnastic and my brother is 16 years old and he is doing pretty well in soccer team. So, yeah I think it definitely runs n the family. My dad used to make me do sports. We used to train in an old school way in the house, have raw eggs and all that until I thought that I am good in sports and how about I study sports and science and ever then I have been unstoppable. So far, I have done soccer, long jumping, sprint running, Spartan, boxer (JD boxer). I have been an ambassador of FitnessFirst Bahrain and Max Muscles supplements.

How did you get interested in modelling? I started it when I was 20 /21 you go through a lot of categories if u are independent and for me I like challenges I got denied and rejected so many times because during those days they had different requirements for models but one day I was simply seeking for part time jobs my friend said hey u know how to ramp walk we need models and you are fit and all that I remember it was a fashion show I'm gulf hotel one of the designers was Khalida bin Rajab I did good and I was like ok this sounds interesting I walked in front of like let's say maybe 200 people like pro. And it escalated from there. www.theciin.com

How would you describe yourself best in a sentence? Strong and always positive.

What’s your favourite healthy food? Chicken breast with broccoli and mashed potato.

And what’s your favourite cheat food? Pizza or traditional Swedish meatballs

What is your current workout routine? I follow upper/lower split training and one day cardio. I train 5/6 days and take one day of rest.

Why did you move to Copenhagen? To expand my modeling career and face new challenges. Also to reunite with my better half (let's keep it a surprise). I don't want to ruin it ha...ha...

What is the number 1 philosophy you live by? Do good and good will happen to you. I highly believe in karma and to be humble.

What’s your greatest achievement so far? My greatest achievement so far was completing my personal trainer course and becoming independent without any financial support from my family and that I had traveled around the world embracing different cultures and traditions which made me learn many new things.

What’s your favourite quote? Thoughts becomes things. If you see it in your mind, you will hold it in your hand.

How do you handle set backs & bad days? Well I take breaks and admit how I feel and why I feel in that way. I face and accept what I can't change. My loved ones, friends and family have been very supportive and I usually ask them and seek for advice. I detach myself from social media for a while so I can think clearly.

What are your future plans? Explore the world. Learn different languages. Be a successful model in Europe.

What 3 tips would you give to any woman wanting to get a feminine physique like yours? Eat good, cut off soda and train at least thrice a week.

Your message for our readers. Follow your dreams and specially for beautiful women out there you are beautiful inside out and give it a try. Take risks, explore, and leave your comfort zone and see how you feel. That's how you move forward.

Monki’s Coming To The UAE

Scandinavian fashion brand Monki launches in Abu Dhabi

GIVENCHY PRESENTS THE MYSTIC HANDBAG

032

With its Pre-Fall 2019 collection, Givenchy unveils a handbag inspired by Artistic Director Clare Waight Keller’s haute couture silhouettes.

This year, Swedish fashion brand, Monki makes its debut in the UAE with not one, but two new stores in Abu Dhabi. The first, a 310m.sq. retail space located in the Yas Mall is set to open at the beginning of summer (June), followed by the second store – a 390m.sq. space located in the new Al Maryha Central Mall, later in the year. “We look forward to our expansion into the UAE,” says Jennie Dahlin Hansson, Managing Director for Monki. “We can’t wait to grow our Monki community in Abu Dhabi and see how fashion lovers there will make Monki part of their style.” The new retail spaces will adopt the Monki World concept, an imaginary universe that has inspired over 115 stores. The transformed space will offer the full story-telling experience with its acclaimed features – sunshine-drop lights, chandeliers and shimmering features. The store creates a space perfect for the customer to enjoy Monki’s eclectic, on-trend collections and designs that are the touch point between Scandi cool and Asian street style. Monki’s design team has stayed on the pulse of interesting trends and personal inspiration since 2006. At the core stands the Swedish fashion brand’s aim to empower young women everywhere to express and feel great about themselves. With stores in Kuwait, Riyadh and Jeddah having opened in 2018, these further locations mark Monki’s continued growth within the region. Monki looks forward to extending its #monkistyle with a new audience of stylish Abu Dhabi customers. www.theciin.com

In keeping with the mystique of Clare Waight Keller’s collections for the House of Givenchy, the Mystic statement combines sophistication and softness. With sculptural shoulders covered by a graceful V-shaped flap, its structured silhouette reprises haute couture signatures and simultaneously suggests power and restraint. In the Mystic, generosity meets volume and lightness: its elegant shape is versatile enough to accompany a variety of looks and its body, in fine calf leather, opens to reveal an ample compartment lined in contrasting suede. Numerous details denote its high level of craftsmanship, from hand-made topstitching and handpainted edging to a handle made of a triple layer of suede, calf leather and a hand-applied bombé cushion that ensures comfort and, with wear, takes on an individual patina. Half-hidden by the flap, a stylized double-G clasp has a new silky gold finish that complements the design’s sleekness while underscoring an aura of secrecy: whether the bag is carried open or closed, its flap ensures that contents remain hidden from view. A practical back flat pocket keeps essentials to hand.

ALEXINA GRAHAM ANNOUNCED AS NEW VICTORIA’S SECRET ANGEL The British model is the latest beauty to receive her Victoria’s Secret Angel Wings

033

In 2017, Alexina Graham made her debut at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai. Since then she has collaborated closely with the brand, walking in the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Show in New York and shooting the brand’s advertising with Russell James and Jerome Duran. In March 2019, Alexina was contracted as a Victoria’s Secret Angel. She is the latest Angel to join the Victoria’s Secret Angel family following Barbara Palvin last week.

WHAT ALEXINA GRAHAM IS LOVING FROM VICTORIA'S SECRET

Charismatic and beautiful are two words that are commonly used to describe Alexina Graham. She was born and raised in Nottinghamshire, Great Britain. As a child she started studying ballet when she was six years old. Dance was her introduction into modeling, by teaching her to move her limbs, look elegant and understand how to be in front of a camera and connect with it. She then went on to participate in a theatre group at age fifteen. Singing in public gave her the confidence to pursue modeling. April, 2019

Weill SS19 Collection For this new collection, Mathilde Castello Branco tells the story of a woman’s summer of love. Summer by the sea, sun-kissed holidays; elegance has a carefree field day: a jamboree of fruit, charcoal-sketched once again... lemons, strawberries, pineapples, and cherries rub shoulders with deckchair stripes, parasol patterns and more sporty designs. The perfect combo of fun and chic. They bring a new vibe to classic designs, creating a whole new wardrobe filled with style and imagination: details swirl casually around each piece, with strikingly chic or unexpected effects: a waistband tied with a grosgrain ribbon, a button with a sapphire, emerald or pearl jewel, a hand-embroidered brooch, fruit or a film clapperboard, a Rockstar chain, dashes of diamantÊ, a bow like a special wish.

SINGING TIPS FOR BEGINNERS BY ARAB TEEN INFLUENCER AND TIKTOK STAR

LEILA BAUER

044

Admit it or not, music has always played a huge role in our day to day lives. From morning commutes to late-night evenings and casual midnight strolls, music always lighten up the mood, instantly making everything seem more bearable and interesting. Imagine a wedding without a processional song, a birthday party without an upbeat music or even a simple spa treatment without a relaxing melody. The little things, most of the time, usually make all the difference. “Singing, for me, has been an outlet to be able to express myself.” Says Leila Bauer, a 15 year-old Dubai-based Influencer and Tiktok star. “Being able to communicate with people in a creative and relatable manner is something that I truly enjoy.” She added. Leila has over 250,000 followers on the famed media app for creating and sharing short videos and has received over 2 million likes.

VOICE LESSON 101 BREATHE To be a good singer, one must have good breath control and correct use of breathing techniques. If you want to hit and finish your notes, you should plan your breathes accordingly. You don’t want trail off in an important audition, don’t you?

WARM-UP Vocal warm-ups before singing is just the same as stretching before working out. It prepares your muscles to help you sound better and hit your notes correctly. Start by singing through your vowels: ae-ee-ah-oh-oo.

MAINTAIN Yes, your voice also needs to be taken care of. Always hydrate yourself with water and avoid drinking caffeinated drinks. Do not even think about smoking as it could cause damage to your vocal chords. Also, avoid screaming as much as you can especially before a singing performance.

PRACTICE As cliché as it may sound, practice always make perfect. Make it a habit to find time to practice every day but also making sure that you don’t strain your voice. Resting your vocal chords is just as important.

ENJOY This is probably the most important trick. If you enjoy and love what you’re doing, you are releasing positive energy which in turn positively

045

affects how you sing. Singing can be exhausting too but make sure to enjoy the process. Now let’s talk more about singing and music:

LEILA: I love pop, alternative and sometimes acoustic. Billie Eilish, Olivia O’Brien and Blackbear are no doubt some of the artists I look up to.

When did you first discover your passion for singing?

Can you play any musical instrument?

LEILA: I have been singing as long as I can remember but began publicly singing when I was in 6th grade. I actually got bullied for it by some peers and was told that I am not good enough. Of course it hurt but I tried to not take it personally and just kept doing it as something that I enjoyed to do and focused on that. Later on, I started to gain attention and followers online and people started to appreciate what I do.

LEILA: I love to play the piano but there’s always room to improve.

How do you describe yourself as a young aspiring singer? LEILA: To be honest, I sing because I enjoy singing. Music makes me happy. So when an opportunity becomes available to able to share what I love doing; well.. that’s just an added bonus.

Did you take any voice or music lessons? LEILA: Yes, I took music lessons in California for the first time when I was 13. It really helped me build my confidence.

Any tips and advices on how to take care of your vocals?

What’s your favorite genre of music and who is/are your favorite artists?

LEILA: Drink hot tea with honey and always stay hydrated. Also, avoid screaming and shouting and make it a point to always warm up your vocals.

The Dark Side 046

Deep within me exists my jealous side. Jealousy is known to twist human emotions and leads to harm and revenge. On the other hand, the type of jealousy I possess is manifested only in the relationships I have, which I have a hard time shutting out. This 'Dark side' of me adds conflict to my relationships resulting in arguments that lead to separation. My work expresses how I grapple with the different versions of myself and at the same time, maintain tranquility from within.

As well as working towards female empowerment, Ananya is also a co-founder, alongside her mother, of MPower, a charity dedicated to raising awareness about mental health disorders, and tackling the stigma that surrounds mental health illnesses. Alongside her business and charity work, Ananya has also pursued her passion as an artist and as a musician, writing and recording songs that have received a lot of attention from all over the world.

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

young. I wanted to develop a system to address this, which is why I founded Svatantra at the age of 17. We loan money to women in the Indian countryside to help them grow their businesses and become self sufficient. As a female entrepreneur, I wanted to encourage other women to enter the world of business. In particular, I wanted to encourage Indian women, because traditionally they’re expected to stay at home and take care of the family, a role that severely limits their participation in the economy, and makes financial independence almost impossible. Financial freedom for women is not only essential for gender equality, but also for global economic growth.

I'm a singer, songwriter, mental health campaigner and entrepreneur. I’m following my dreams, doing what I’m passionate about, and I’m hoping to encourage others to do the same. Both in business and music, my aim is to connect with as many people as possible, and in doing so, hopefully help to change people’s lives for the better. I’m a big believer of the saying that everyone should leave the world a little better than how they found it.

How and when did your love for music begin? I have loved music for as long as I can remember. My parents are both very musical. Not many people know this but my father actually sings really well! When I was nine, I was encouraged to take up the santoor, a traditional Indian instrument, by my mother who plays it beautifully. I got more into rock and pop as a teenager so I started teaching myself how to play the guitar. I would watch YouTube tutorial videos and I used to love jamming with friends after school. I spent some time in the UK whilst studying, and whilst there I went through a bit of a rough patch. During the hard times, I used music as an escape, and would go to London to perform at any and every gig I could. Regardless of how small the audience was, performing and playing music made the hard times easier, and I quickly came to realise that music was the path I wanted to devote myself to.

Tell us more about your micro-financing project Svatantra. I strongly believe that businesses should have a heart. They can serve as agents of positive change in the world, and still make money. So I wanted to create a sustainable business that would make a real difference. Microfinance fit the bill perfectly because it provides opportunities which many capable people have been denied or have never had access to. I set up Svatantra when I was 17, committed to giving back to society but in a sustainable way. There were many challenges; it was an industry dominated by middle-aged men and even my own team was much older than me. I had to prove to people every day that I knew what I was doing and that my vision was strong. I reinvented myself daily, getting tougher and more committed to making Svatantra the business it is today and delivering a positive impact. Now, the business is thriving and we have over 300,000 active clients across India.

and

For a long time, I dreamed of attending the University of Oxford, in the UK, and to my delight, it was a dream that came true. My application was accepted, and I studied Economics and Management. My time there was amazing. Challenging at times, and so different to anything I was used to, but it was a hugely valuable experience and I met some really interesting people.

What instruments do you play? When I was nine I started learning how to play the santoor, which is a traditional Indian instrument, like a guitar but with more strings and you play it on your lap. It was the best introduction to music, and I really enjoyed playing it. Learning how to play the santoor gave me the foundation knowledge and musical understanding I needed to teach myself how to play the guitar and piano when I was a teenager. I particularly enjoy playing the guitar and piano because with these instruments, I can play and sing at the same time.

How and why, at such an early age, did you decide to work for female empowerment? I’ve always been very conscious of the huge income gap in India, even since I was very

Tell us about life in England. How did it change you? Being far from home and on your own can make you quite introspective, especially when faced with an intense academic course combined with the usual teenage pressures. The experience taught me a lot about myself, and it was in England that I became set on pursuing what I loved: music. I was very fortunate to realize at a young age what many people don’t realize until later in life: that there is no better way to spend your life than waking up every morning and doing what you love. Everyone should nurture the things that enable them to express themselves, and pursue the paths they enjoy.

We are interested to know more about your MPower initiative. Depression and suicide rates are on the rise around the world, and people are scared to reach out for help because they fear being judged. The stigma around mental health is a global issue, yet it’s a topic that’s rarely discussed. When it is discussed, it is often trivialized, which only adds to the problem. I set up MPower a couple of years, with my mother, to tackle and stamp out the stigma around mental illness by campaigning and proving world-class care. Our work is going extremely well, we organised a cyclathon through Mumbai last year, and put on a music concert to over 20,000 people. We’re raising awareness about mental health, and we’re beginning to get people to realize that someone’s mental health does not determine their ability or right to contribute to society.

tried in this? Hold On is inspired by people in relationships that gone through tough times, but held on to their love for one another. Sometimes in life, we are faced with the question of whether it’s better for us to hold to a love, to a person, or to let go. Hold On ultimately encourages people to reject fear and confusion, and hold on to what they know is right for them. I think this is a really relatable theme for a lot of people right now. I am constantly growing and developing as an artist, and I hope that my music reflects that. It’s also really important for me that my music is honest and relatable. I am always amazed by music’s ability to engage people on a deeper level, no matter where they’re from, and I always want my songs to connect with people, to stimulate their emotions and hopefully to make them happy.

Who are some of your role models? I am incredibly close with my family so my biggest role models are actually two of my close family members: my grandfather and my mother. My grandfather was a true visionary, and I look up to him immensely. My mother is so compassionate and strong, and her dedication to making a positive difference through her schools and charities has inspired me to make the world a better place.

055

How or where do you get inspiration for writing your songs? When I write, it’s always authentic and emotionally driven. I’m inspired by my own experiences, or by stories I hear from others which resonate with me. I then find the notes and words which bring emotions, experiences and stories to life, and create music that tells a story, music that people can truly connect with. I am particularly inspired by love, and stories of overcoming adversity.

How did it feel to be signed by Universal Music Group? Universal first approached me in Mumbai in 2016, and asked me to come in to see them. I was excited of course, but so nervous for that first meeting. Once we got talking it became clear that we were on exactly the same page. The Universal Music Group are doing some great work in India, and they’ve always been very supportive of me and my music. Two years on from that first meeting, and I’m so proud to represent them. It’s been the most amazing journey so far.

Your debut song “Livin’ the life’ is doing extremely well on Youtube.. how do you feel about it? As any musician will tell you, it's scary to expose yourself emotionally to an audience, not knowing how they will react. I put something personal out there, unsure of how well it would be received, and I definitely wasn’t expecting such a huge response, especially not on my first release. It makes me so happy to know that people are connecting with music and enjoying it.

Tell us about your new single “Hold On.” What new or different themes have you April, 2019

How was the experience working with Afrojack for the remix of “Livin’ The Life”?

name just a few, but Zan Malik, Sia, Camilla Carbello and Ed Sheeran are all great artists, with a lot of talent, and they’re all doing amazing things right now. As for my absolute favourite, it would have to be Eminem. He has this amazing ability to make his songs and the messages within them resonate with all types of people across the world, I think because of his honesty and vulnerability.

It was amazing! I felt incredibly fortunate to have this experience so early in my career. Nick (Afrojack) is great, he is incredibly cool, super talented and loves making music more than anything. I definitely enjoyed working with another talented musician, and the whole experience was transformative, and a huge learning curve.

What message do you like to convey through your music?

What according to you are the 3 important keys to success?

I love music for music’s sake but also because it enables to me to reach out and share an emotional experience with a wide audience. Music is this amazing universal language that people can connect with regardless of nationality, gender, sexuality or social background. When I write my songs, I aspire to connect with people, engage their emotions and hopefully to make them happy.

Authenticity, passion and surrounding yourself with good people. I have always stayed true to what I believe in, in both business and music, and following my passions is what has led me to where I am today. As for good people, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help and support of the people around me, including my family, my friends, and those at the Universal Music Group.

What is next for Ananya Birla?

What is your favourite quote?

My definition of success is constantly evolving. This year, I will continue to write and release music, and start touring internationally. I want to show the world that India can produce a musician who is successful, and globally recognized. I also hope to continue to use my platform as positively as possible, to bring about worldwide social change. I want to spread the message of my mental health initiative, MPower, to help those struggling with depression and mental health issues. Right now, in India, one student commits suicide every hour. It’s more important than ever that we address this crisis. We need to stamp out the stigma surrounding mental health, so that people feel comfortable asking for the help they need.

‘Try your best and leave the rest to God’ is a quote that dates back to ancient Greek times, but I think it’s still as relevant today as it was then. We can do no more than our best, but more often than not, doing your best will get you where you need to go.

Who are some of your favourite singers? There are so many talented artists out there that it’s hard to

The CiiN#2 E-mail: theciinmagazine@gmail.com Deadline: 05-05-2019 April, 2019

WHY SKINCARE STILL MATTERS AT 35,000 FEET It’s quite fun – jet setting around the world and traveling through different time zones. One day you’re in Paris having dinner and next you find yourself lost in the streets of Japan. It’s fun until you realize your skin getting more dehydrated as you gain more air miles. Now the question is, “How do you take care of your skin at 35,000 feet above?” Dubai-based Fashion & Lifestyle Influencer Lady Baltazar shares a step-by-step guide to combat this problem. A “ fter taking countless of flights and traveling to around 39 countries in different continents, I have learned to value and take skin care more seriously.” She said. During flights, the air tends to take the moisture out of your skin and makes it more prone to irritation due to the sudden changes in temperature and humidity levels. Here’s a step by step guide jetsetter and trendsetter Lady Baltazar swears by: STEP 1: WIPE IT OFF “Don’t leave the house without packing makeup wipes in your carry-on.” Lady advises. Try to remove your makeup (if you’re wearing it) as soon as you’re settled in. This will give you a clean canvas before you start your in-flight skincare routine.

STEP 2: APPLY SERUM/OIL What is serum and what does it do? Serums, unlike standard moisturizers, are able to be quickly absorbed by our skin on a deeper cellular level because of its smaller particles. It can act as a multivitamin for your face and work more effectively especially in an environment where air is being recycled. Facial oil is a good option too as it helps seal in moisture and add extra nourishment to your skin.

STEP 3: ENJOY A RELAXING FACE MASK Now for the best part—you get to pamper yourself with a relaxing face mask while indulging in the aircraft’s in-flight entertainment. Does it get any better than this?

STEP 4: TIME FOR MOISTURIZER

058

It’s time to seal the deal. Traditional moisturizers, like face creams, are much richer and help create a protective layer on top of your skin. Besides acting as a barrier against dirt, moisturizers can give you a soft, smoother and glowing skin. Extra tip: to get the most out of it, choose a moisturizer that has SPF in the formula. Its importance is often underestimated as most people don’t realize the effect of being exposed to UV light especially during flights where the sun’s rays can easily penetrate plane windows.

STEP 5: DON’T TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT In-flight meals contain more salt than those offered at a restaurant on the ground. It is because our normal sense of taste becomes manipulated at 35,000 feet due to lack of humidity and lower air pressure. So before you ask the crew for that extra grain of salt, think again. Remember, too much salt intake can dehydrate your skin and can lead to swelling.

STEP 6: CATCH SOME Z’s Sleep, and all the good things it contributes for our skin’s health, is most often undervalued. If you want to have that glow when you land at your destination, try to get some sleep especially on long-haul flights. Eye masks and headphones can be helpful in this case. And oh, skip the caffeine and alcohol and drink more water instead. You’ll thank me later.

de GRISOGONO

The Art of Technicolour For its 17th Cannes Film Festival, jeweller de GRISOGONO presents its Haute Joaillerie creations in technicolour mode. As a preview, five High Jewellery rings appear attired in dazzling hues, vibrant creations set with elementary colours. In tribute to the tradition of cinema, TechnicolorTM films and the creativity of Old Hollywood, de GRISOGONO offers an electrifying look at new Haute Joaillerie creations. These two pioneers of colour – in Cinema for one and Jewellery for the other – have left a brilliant and lasting imprint on their respective arts by glorifying women, images and gemstones through apparently simple colour combinations. Highly saturated creations that are all about contrasts and layering. A distinctive aesthetic reminding us that beauty is shaped by elementary codes: light, shadow, silhouettes and volumes. Expertise devoted to creativity – with colours tirelessly standing the test of time.

068

Red

Ultra-feminine and Seductive Its flamboyant scarlet nature embodies a peaceful feminine takeover, elegantly catching the light and drawing all eyes. It is the unmistakable heroine, the most appealing of all gems. Striking a powerful contrast with pure white, it offers a vivid reminder that the brightest of shades stems from three primary colours: red, green and blue.

SIGNATURE: ETHEREAL You will wear it a centre stone. There is nothing ambiguous or nuanced about the fundamental colour setting its heart ablaze: an 18.13-carat cushion-cut ruby epitomising the strength of this ring and reverently surrounded by 46 briolette-cut diamonds. This haute couture setting technique, which has become the jeweller’s signature, gives complete freedom to the stones, making them appear to be floating in mid-air.

Green

Glamorous and Rebellious A brilliant green infused with contemporary energy, nature’s pigment flaunts its rich and luxuriant hue through a powerful, intense green emerald characterised by extreme purity and transparency. Offering a twist on the black technique used in films to heighten the contrast of the final print, de GRISOGONO enhances this unique creation with its emblematic chiaroscuro effect.

Blue

Sensual and Inspirational A clear blue hue, as infinite as the sky and sea, shines through an oval-cut sapphire. In a resolutely couture-style trio, de GRISOGONO mingles the tender and deep chromatic nuances of sapphire, diamonds and emeralds.

Yellow

Optimistic and Luminous A universal, deliberate and literal symbol of the sun, yellow blends freely with the chromatic circle – black, grey, navy blue, emerald green, denim blue, bright blue, white, khaki, as well as shades of beige, orange and pink. A yellow diamond reflecting the sun, igniting everything it touches and radiating a dazzling glory that accentuates the contrast between light and shade.

Bally’s Vulko Sneaker All points lead back to Bally’s Swiss roots with the new Vulko sneaker. Imprinted with the geographic coordinates of Bally’s original factory in Schönenwerd, Switzerland as a reference to its Swiss heritage, the Vulko sole is also inspired by the welt of a bicycle wheel tyre giving this shoe a modern industrial vibe. The bike tyre reference emerged from inspiration gathered during a road trip that the Bally Creative Collective took through Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. The presence of white rubber bike tyres gave birth to this new sole design and a feeling of nostalgia that references vintage throughout the sneaker collection. Named for and made with the vulcanized construction of shoe sole crafting, the sneaker is extremely durable. The low-top style, Vrey comes in white leather, multi-colour camel check pattern borrowed from Spring Summer’s ready-to-wear and an Edelweiss-motif archive print. The hightop Vulker version, which has a more fashion-forward outlook comes in the same multi-colour camel check pattern as well as a neutral suede style. Also featured on the Vulko is a stylized Bally Stripe in a tone-on-tone cream hue.

LUCA VALENTINI

KEEPING POP ART ALIVE TODAY Many avant-garde art movements compose the canon of contemporary art. As the successor of modern art, the contemporary genre includes art produced today and dates back to a single, iconic movement: Pop Art. While Pop Art began in the 1950s and was popularized in the 1960s, several iconic artists today, including Luca Valentini, continue to keep it alive through their exciting and highly regarded works.

080

Pop Art as we know it emerged among the New York artists Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, and Claes Oldenburg, among others, who were characterised by their portrayal of any and all aspects of popular culture that had a powerful impact on contemporary life; their iconography, taken from television, comic books, movie magazines, and all forms of advertising, was presented emphatically and objectively, and by means of the precise commercial techniques used by the media from which the iconography itself was borrowed. Following the popularity of the Abstract Expressionists - the post–World War II art movement in American painting - Pop Art's reintroduction of identifiable imagery (drawn from mass media and popular culture) was a major shift for the direction of modernism. The subject matter drifted far from fine art's traditional themes of morality, mythology, and history; rather, Pop Artists celebrated commonplace objects and people of everyday life, in this way seeking to elevate popular culture to the level of fine art. Perhaps owing to the incorporation of commercial and media images, Pop Art has become one of the most recognizable styles of modern art. The well known Dubai-based, Italian pop artist Luca Valentini, who's myriad worlds depicted through his work have unprecedented pulling power, enticing consumers and critics alike, continues to keep Pop Art alive today. Valentini unravels his own past, aesthetic obsessions and fabulist fantasies through his new artistic work of symbols and metaphors. Below, Luca Valentini shares some of his ideas on the key characteristics of pop art that make it so admirable and controversial in today's contemporary society.

April, 2019

What is the difference between pop art and fine art? Pop art fulfils the primary needs of people and provides instant gratification, whereas fine art is more introspective and has different levels of interpretation.

Who is the pop artist of 2019 versus the pop artist of the 1960s? Today we are more sensitive to the mythology of society, and it has become a challenge to find our true essence and sense of purpose. I’m inspired by everything that I admire or catches my attention. Whether it’s fashion, music, movies or stage shows, I create a story or a meaning for every piece of art that I create. People generally glorify models, actors, and musicians, but to me, we are actually all the same. Composed of flesh, bones, and muscles, which is why I believe there is no need to glorify such celebrity figures.

What is your take on the future of pop art?

082

Pop art has to disconnect from the graphic design composition because a lot of the new artworks from pop art artists nowadays are becoming saturated. The focus should be on the meaning of art, otherwise, those that claim to be pop artists, are merely graphic designers. I like to add grist to the mill. The classicism of the cultural environment in which I live, the modern way of painting united with the contemporaneity of my subjects, and the depth of the messages ensure each piece has personality. I play around with my paintings, aiming to reflect a message in a different and unconventional way. For example, I like to create a twist on magazine covers and advertisements that express a certain reflection to others. To me, it’s all about addressing what can’t be seen in regular brand advertisements. I must always indulge in inspiration without fear or reverence.

Lastly, tell us about your favourite, iconic pop art from the 1960s? My favourite piece of pop art is, the 'Big Electric Chair' by Andy Warhol (created in 1967), the piece reflects on death as a social event. Andy elevates the aesthetics of the artwork to represent an economic phenomenon, which literally feels like a 'punch in the stomach'. www.theciin.com

City Lights By Berluti Summer 2019 Capsule Collection By Kris Van Assche

City nights and neon lights are the natural habitat of the kind of man about town that Berluti’s Creative Director, Kris Van Assche has a flair for. His Summer 2019 Capsule Collection – his first one for Berluti – is inspired by the dark atmospheres and electronic sounds of New Wave music, all while exploring the way in which street culture, formalwear and technical details merge together to create today’s menswear.

090

Timeless tailoring is given a modern spin through sleek, fitted proportions and light shoulder padding. Stretch cotton poplin shirts feature contrasted piping in graphic black and white, the kind of detail that can transform a whole look. Berluti’s new logo is displayed in short-sleeved jersey tops and worn over short-sleeved shirts, taking the mix between casual and formalwear to a new level. Outerwear follows suit: a technical inspired hooded parka made from French calfskin in a striking electric blue tone becomes the ultimate statement piece, and Berluti’s iconic “B-Way” blouson with elasticated cuffs adopts a daring shade of red and a matte, grainy texture. The Scritto motif, inspired by the 18th century manuscripts and created by Olga Berluti, becomes a multicoloured, New Wave-inspired manifesto when printed over silk shirts and blousons. Under Kris Van Assche’s direction, Berluti’s classic accessories are reinterpreted through an 80’s prism: The “Alessandro” shoe gets a reversed patina treatment, in which details and contours, rather than darkened, are now highlighted with a blue colour. A new statement sneaker, the “Gravity”, is made from opaque Vitello leather, nylon and rubber. A pigmented finish on a supple white Vitello backpack creates a natural, matte grainy texture, and a new weekender takes inspiration from the “Alessandro” in its assemblage of leather panels using as few seams as possible, proof that timeless savoir-faire and state-ofthe-art technical achievements go hand-inhand.

INTRODUCING OUD FOR GREATNESS BY INITIO PARFUMS PRIVE Drawing Its Perfection And Its Energy From The Sources Of Sacred Geometry, Oud For Greatness Breathes Out A Force Of Nature, The Wake Of Greatness. Could this be the equation to attain abundance? Rarely has the natural essence of oud wood been perfected to this pitch, handled with majesty (and brutality) in this bold formula, scarcely highlighted by patchouli and musks as if rejecting, at all costs, any distraction from the senses. Superbly textured, strikingly natural, oud has been handled by the creator in a register that is astonishingly fresh (lavender) and spicy (nutmeg, saffron). An enchanting, thrilling perfume that makes all our dreams of greatness possible.

ALI A. CHA'ABAN 104

Lebanese artist, socio-political commentator, observer of culture and pop-culture analyst. Ali a. Cha’aban is all of these things.

Ali believes that art is the match that will ignite social and political change, and so he creates works of art that spotlight world issues and trigger deep feelings of nostalgia for a time that perhaps never was. After collaborating with nike to create limited edition pairs, such as the ‘satellite culture’ collection, and the upcoming ‘dusk to dawn’ collection, he was labelled by the famous multi-national corporation as a ‘visionary artist’ and his work is continuing to touch and inspire thousands of people.

106

Could you please introduce yourself and tell us how you started in the arts? and your first experience in art making? My name is Ali Cha’aban. I am a Lebanese artist, born and raised in Kuwait, but as well as an artist, people often refer to me as an observer of culture, or a pop-culture analyst, because of the way I reflect different cultures in my work. I started out as a pop artist in 2008, showcasing my work which was a mixture of graffiti and collage work in a construction site in Kuwait. What I loved most was the reception of my work, the way people reacted and responded to it. The feedback and the narrative is what’s so important, and this comes from people’s thoughts and critiques, and what resonates with them after they’ve left.

What was your route to becoming an artist? I didn’t always want to become an artist, in fact my first years in college were focused on studying pre-med. But I gradually became more detached from that notion, and more motivated by the need to comment on social and political events, like the 2006 war in Lebanon, through visual representations. After a while though, the need comment on these events evolved into a desire to become a storyteller of sort. As an artist I like to create ‘space’ where ideas and notions can be exchanged. The ‘space’ provides an opportunity to create discussions that transcend interdisciplinary and crosssectoral boundaries. As artists we are culture, we are the citizens of the world.

How would you describe yourself and your artwork? Art is hardly ever defined, it’s subjective: it means something different to each artist. To

me, art is the perfect way to create a social commentary and highlight social and political issues, shedding light on different subjects. It’s how artists can communicate and address concerns and generate awareness. There is a strong current of nostalgia running through my work, in fact nostalgia is a notion that my work revolves around. I tackle socio-political issues such as the Arabian identity and the state of dystopia, but the significance of the present nostalgia is still vague. I constantly ask myself whether it reflects a longing for the innocence of childhood, and the simplicity of the pre-digital age, or whether it’s a form of escapism from the current socio-political problems. I try to find the answers to these questions through my creations.

What is your chosen medium and what are your techniques? My mediums vary from concept to concept, depending on the subject I want to tackle. I always research which medium will be best suited to a concept. I am a contemporary artist, but I also consider my work to be in line with the school of Marcel Duchamp, an art that serves the mind, rather than the eyes. Once we depart with the ideals that art should be aesthetically pleasing, we find ourselves in a place where we can appreciate that the idea, concept or message is more important. Different artists have different opinions on art and its purpose, but I for one believe that the message behind the art is always more important than the appearance.

Do you use a sketchbook? No, haha, never. I’m an industrial/installation artist, so I’m more technological in planning my work.

www.theciin.com

How has your work developed since you began and how do you see it evolving in the future? When I first started out as an artist, I produced work that was visually pleasing with the purpose of being relevant or unleashing an energy. But as I progressed, the meaning of art changed to me, it became a way to raise social awareness, and so my work is now more focused on tackling socio-political issues, and presenting issues to the masses in hope of sparking a reaction from my audience. That reaction is where change occurs, in the form of activism.

Tell us about a piece of work you have fond memories of and why? An art piece to an artist is like a child to his mother: she can never favor one over the other. Each art piece depicts or decodes an emotion from a certain point of an artists’ life. If I had to choose though, it would be between “‫“ سيمر كل مر‬This Too Shall Pass,” and “The Broken Dream. “‫“ سيمر كل مر‬This Too Shall Pass,” touches on the topic of refugees. The series depicts emotional stages that a person who is displaced endures: Anger, Resolution and then Hope. This piece is the second emotion, resolution. The piece is significant because it reminds us that there’s no obstacle we can’t overcome, it reminds that we have to become one with our obstacles, and accept them as part of our journey. “The Broken Dream tackles the issue of the neglected identity many of us seem to undergo. This was a particularly relatable piece for many, as many of my generation were able to relate to the struggle of late-found Arabism in a person’s life.

Where do you get your inspiration from? Most of my inspiration stems from my major in Anthropology. I studied and observed all sorts of cultures, and as an artist, I became like a sponge, absorbing all these ideas and memories. Studying anthropology has helped me to reflect on the message I try to convey in my work, I don’t just convey emotions and issues, I understand them. Anthropology allows me to create pieces that trigger emotional attachment or resentment in my viewers, because I understand their way of thinking.

What are your artistic influences? There are three people that influenced me the most: Mounir Fatmi, a contemporary artist; Mahmoud Darwish, the nostalgic poet; and Khalid Zahid, who is not only a fellow contemporary artist, but also my best friend. They all have a particular style which has influenced and inspired me, and that influence has flown into my art. Fatmi’s eye for detail, Darwish’s words that give you goosebumps, and Zahid’s sporadic technique all resonate with me, and have influenced my work.

How does your geographical and cultural surroundings impact your artistic process? To say that the Arab identity as a whole is shattered would be an exaggeration, but that emotion started growing within me around the start of the Arab Spring. Seeing insurgencies and civil wars occur made me feel nostalgic

generator. There’s infusion of past and present, heritage and modernity, all presented on a silver platter. In the Arab world, national, sectarian and religious identities seem to be both antagonistic and complimentary concepts.

towards a peace that never materialized. Whether for religious or ideological reasons, I believe that unity between the masses doesn’t exist, or at least it’s slowly fading. However, I do believe that there is an external influence on our identity that derives from the west. This is an idea which I discussed in my series “The Broken Dream”, as I tried to familiarize myself with both sides of my upbringing. The Persian rug has its own prominence from visual to felt, and experiment with mixing the pop culture with the traditional aesthetics and material of a Persian rug felt like a broken dream.

What has been the most exciting moment in your art career so far? The past two years have held many incredible experiences, with a rollercoaster of emotions and many fruitful events and projects. To name just a few, there was the Art Abu Dhabi in collaboration with The Louvre launch, the “Satellite Culture” global Nike campaign which I produced, my talk with Apple about culture and light, and the Shara art fair last Ramadan where “The Broken Dream” artwork stole the spotlight.

What emotions do you hope the viewers experience when looking at your art? Hiraeth, a word that means ‘nostalgia’, is what my work revolves around, and what I hope viewers feel and experience when looking at my art. My work provokes a homesickness for a home which you cannot return to, or maybe even a home which never existed. Nostalgia, yearning, and grief for the lost places of the past is what viewers experience. This is why in my series “The Broken Dream” I depict Superman with bruises, and Wonder Woman fallen down. The significance of both superheroes being in distress relies on the emotion of nostalgia.

Tell us about some of your achievements you are most proud of? One of the biggest moments in my careers was when I was acknowledged by the educational sector. My “Halal/Haram” artwork was purchased for the Noura Al Kaabi, who is the Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development for the Untied Arab Emirates. This was a very big deal for me.

What exciting projects are you working on right now? Can you share some of the future plans for your artworks?

Is there anywhere in the world that inspires you most of all?

I’m working with a fellow Saudi Arabian artist, Khalid Zahid, to create an installation series that explores the concept of metaphysics, a branch of philosophy that explores abstract concepts such as being, knowing, identity, time and space, and how it’s relevant in modern-day Islam.

The Arabian Peninsula as a whole is very inspiring. It’s richness in culture and diversity makes it a melting pot where different cultures come together, and this unity is inspiring not just to me, but to many people. There’s so much to take in that the Peninsula is like a content

www.theciin.com

109

Another exciting project is my Nike collaboration. I’m currently working with Nike to create 30 pairs of shoes to be released in Ramadan, exclusively via the Nike app.

Do you have any upcoming events or exhibitions we should know about? Being signed to a gallery fills up your calendar with upcoming exhibitions, but mostly I am focusing on the Shara Art Fair in Jeddah, where I’ll be showcasing my new metaphysics collaboration with Khalid Zahid. Later on this year, I’ll be focusing on the Art Abu Dhabi solo show, where I’ll expand the series.

Do you feel that it's important to convey your own beliefs and opinions within your art? And should your work therefore be viewed as autobiographical? Art functions as a haven for ideas. Art is propaganda, art is a voice and a way to seek and inspire change. It’s a form of communication that goes beyond normal discourse. It has the ability to move and drive a notion from what is said, to what is felt. Many artists, including myself, use art to voice their opinion on the problems of the world, and the world is very problematic. So yes, I believe that it’s important to convey my own beliefs and opinions of the world within my work, as I believe art decodes history and attitudes of a certain time. Now that we’re in an age of social media, artists can reach more people with their art, and share their opinions of world problems worldwide, inspiring people to take action. Conveying beliefs and opinions in art, and spreading that art is key to connecting the masses under one model of thought.

Testing of the new Porsche Taycan has entered the final stage

P

orsche’s first purely electrically driven sports car, the Taycan, is currently completing its final test drives before it enters series production. In Scandinavia, just a few kilometres away from the Arctic Circle, it is proving its potential in terms of driving dynamics on snow and ice. At the same time, Porsche engineers are taking advantage of the summer in the Southern Hemisphere. In South Africa, they are conducting per- formance tests, as well as final adjustments in terms of continuous performance and reproducibility. In Dubai they are carrying out hot-climate endurance runs and testing battery charging under extreme conditions. The 30 countries across the globe in which these comprehensive tests are being carried out have temperatures that range from minus 35 to plus 50 degree Celsius. A “ fter carrying out computer simulations and comprehensive bench tests early on, we have now reached the final phase of this demanding testing programme,” underlines the vice president of the model line, Stefan Weckbach: “Before the Taycan is launched on the market at the end of the year, we will have covered approximately six million kilometres across the globe. We are already very happy with the current status of the vehicles. The Taycan is going to be a true Porsche.” Of course, at Porsche, electric cars have to undergo the same rigorous testing programme as sport cars with combustion

engines. In addition to displaying superior per- formance, this always includes proving unrestricted suitability for everyday use in all climate conditions. Particularly demanding features such as charging the battery or temperature control of the drive train and the interior under extreme conditions are additional aspects in the battery-powered models. Other typical Porsche development targets include circuit performance, multiple accelerations, as well as a range suitable for everyday use.

The most significant facts from the Taycan testing phase: •Overall distance covered: Approximately six million kilometres, of which two mil- lion were endurance run kilometres •Countries: A total of 30, including the USA, China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Finland •Temperatures: From minus 35 to plus 50 degree Celsius •Air humidity: From 20 to 100 per cent •Altitude: From 85 metres below to 3,000 metres above sea level •Charging cycles: Over 100,000 using various charging technologies across the globe •Development team: Around 1,000 test drivers, technicians and engineers

Virtual drive through “The Green Hell”

computers are used to design the body, drive, chassis, electronics and overall vehicle of a new model and to simulate their functions – which includes how they work together. In total, the vir-tual prototypes of the Taycan have completed more than ten million digital kilometres. This meant that development engineers started driving a Taycan around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a driving simulator at an early stage, so that they could test and evaluate its circuit performance. During this process, they focused on the electrical energy management, which plays an important role in achieving a sub-eight-minute lap time on the 20.6-kilometre (timed distance) Nordschleife.

Already more than 20,000 prospective buyers

The Porsche Taycan will be introduced in September and will be launched onto the market at the end of the year. Across the globe, there are already more than 20,000 serious prospective buyers. The potential customers have put their names down on an option programme list and made a down payment. The Taycan accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in significantly less than 3.5 se-conds. It has a range of more than 500 kilometres (according to the NEDC). The 800-V architecture in the vehicle guarantees that the lithium-ion battery can be recharged in just four minutes, providing enough energy to drive 100 kilometres (according to NEDC).

The Ferrari F8 Tributo A Celebration Of Excellence

An homage to the most powerful V8 in Ferrari history

F

errari has revealed the first official photographs of the F8 Tributo, the new mid-rear engined sports car that represents the highest expression of the company’s classic twoseater berlinetta. The name is an homage to both the model’s uncompromising layout and to the engine that powers it – with a massive 720 cv and a record specific power output of 185 cv/l, it is the most powerful V8 in Prancing Horse history for a non-special series car and sets the benchmark not just for turbos, but for engines across the board. The 3902 cc V8 won “Best Engine” in the International Engine of the Year awards three years running in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and, in addition, in 2018, was awarded the title of the best engine of the last two decades. As these prestigious awards demonstrate, in the automotive world, Ferrari’s V8 engine is seen as the very epitome of sportiness and driving pleasure. This is particularly the case when it is mid-rear-mounted in a two-seater. Ferrari has been honing the scope of abilities of this architecture, which creates an optimal weight balance, to perfection for over four decades. The result is the F8 Tributo, which is one of the fastest, most thrilling and communicative supercars ever. The new car replaces the 488 GTB, with improvements across the board, providing even better control on the limit along with greater on-board comfort. The F8 Tributo punches out 50 cv more than the car it replaces, is lighter and benefits from a 10% improvement

in aerodynamic efficiency along with the latest version of the Side Slip Angle Control, now in 6.1 guise. So while the F8 Tributo offers the highest levels of performance of any car in the current range, that performance is also very usable. The F8 Tributo delivers its 720 cv without the slightest hint of turbo lag and produces an evocative soundtrack. Instantaneous power is matched by exceptional handling thanks to advanced vehicle dynamics solutions. These include a new version of the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (FDE+) which can be activated in the manettino’s RACE position for the first time, a move designed to make performance on the limit easier to reach and control for an even greater number of drivers. The steering wheel rim is also smaller in diameter to enhance the level of tactility and make the car feel even more agile. In addition, weight reduction measures have cut the car’s dry weight by 40 kg compared to the 488 GTB, further enhancing both responsiveness and driving pleasure without impinging on interior comfort. State-of-the-art aerodynamic solutions incorporated into the car’s body help ensure that the extraordinarily powerful engine can be fully exploited. As with the 488 Pista, the F8 Tributo’s aero package is directly evolved from the track and it adopts several features from the 488 Pista designed to help manage engine heat, including, for instance, the rearwardangled front radiators and the dynamic engine air intakes positioned either side of the spoiler instead of on the rear flanks. Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the F8 Tributo is essentially a bridge to a new design language that will continue to emphasise Ferrari’s key characteristics of high performance and extreme aerodynamic efficiency.

April, 2019

The front of the car is characterised by the S-Duct, a solution that made its debut on the 488 Pista, but which has been redesigned to suit the extensive modifications made to this area of the car. The result is that the S-Duct alone contributes an impressive 15% to the overall increase in downforce compared to the 488 GTB. The new, more compact, horizontal LED headlights allowed Ferrari’s aerodynamicists to incorporate new brake cooling intakes in combination with those on the outside of the bumper, the aim being to improve air flow throughout the entire wheelarch and thereby avoid having to increase the size of the braking system to cope with the car’s greater speed. The new Lexan rear screen showcases the engine compartment and also brings a modern twist to the most distinctive design element from Ferrari’s most famous V8, the F40. The louvres help extract hot air from the engine compartment without impacting the efficiency of the blown spoiler which has been further evolved to increase downforce generated at the rear. The spoiler wraps around the tail lights, visually lowering the car’s centre of gravity and allowing a return to the classic twin light cluster and body-coloured tail, another signature of the early 8-cylinder berlinettas like the very first in the legendary series, the 1975 308 GTB. The cabin retains the classic, driver-oriented cockpit look typical of Ferrari’s mid-rear-engined berlinettas, but every element of the dash, door panels and tunnel, has been completely redesigned. The new generation HMI (Human Machine Interface), complete with round air vents, new steering wheel and controls as well as a new 7” passenger touchscreen display, significantly enhance the on-board environment for driver and passenger.

All-new Nissan sedan to make world premiere at 2019 Shanghai Motor Show

112

N

issan will unveil an all-new sedan and display two electrified concept vehicles at this year’s Shanghai International Automobile Exhibition, showing visitors how the company’s technologies and design are changing the future of mobility. The all-new sedan features Nissan’s latest distinctive design cues and offers an array of technologies that embody Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company’s vision for changing how cars are powered, driven and integrated into society. First unveiled in January at the 2019 North American International Auto Show, the IMs defines a new vehicle segment – the elevated sports sedan. The vehicle’s design takes advantage of its 100% electric powertrain, with the battery located under the body. Along with an extended wheelbase, this results in an elevated, spacious cabin that allows for an innovative seating layout. In autonomous driving mode, the IMs features completely hands-free operation.

In manual mode, it delivers the exciting, highperformance driving experience that only an advanced electric vehicle can provide. The IMQ crossover is equipped with Nissan’s e-POWER technology, which combines an electric drivetrain with a gasoline engine that generates electricity. Because the wheels are driven solely by the vehicle’s electric motors, the IMQ delivers the same powerful and agile performance as a 100% electric car. Striking with its high beltline and aggressive stance, the IMQ was first unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The Nissan IMQ concept crossover will be showcased at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show Visitors to the Shanghai show will also see a full range of current Nissan models, including the Lannia and Tiida, the legendary GT-R performance machine, and the world’s bestselling electric car – the Nissan LEAF. Nissan’s SUVs – the Kicks, Murano, Patrol, Qashqai, Terra and X-Trail – will round out the lineup of vehicles on display. The 18th Shanghai International Automobile Exhibition will take place at the National Exhibition and Convention Center. The show is open to the public from April 18-25. www.theciin.com

Porsche presents the Cayenne Coupé

orsche is adding an even sportier vehicle to the third generation of the its highly successful SUV range – the Cayenne Coupé. “The Coupé includes all the technical highlights of the current Cayenne, but has an even more dynamic design and new technical details that position it as more progressive, athletic, and emotional,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. The highlights of the new Cayenne model include sharper lines with a unique rear section, an adaptive rear spoiler, a rear bench with the characteristics of two individual seats. The new model also offers two different roof concepts, which includes a panoramic fixed glass roof fitted as standard and an optional carbon roof.

A steeply sloping roofline creates unrivalled elegance

Proportions that are more dynamic combine with custom design elements to lend the new Cayenne Coupé unrivalled elegance. “The significantly more steep roof line that falls away to the rear makes the Cayenne Coupé appear even more dynamic, and positions it as the sportiest-looking model in the segment,” says Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche. That effect is supported by a roof spoiler, which accentuates the distinctive Coupé silhouette. The front windscreen and A-pillar are shallower than in the Cayenne, courtesy of a roof edge that has been lowered by around 20 millimetres. Redesigned rear doors and fenders broaden the shoulders of this vehicle by 18 millimetres, contributing to its overall muscular impression. The rear number plate is integrated into the bumper, making the vehicle seem closer to the ground. With its adaptive roof spoiler, the current Cayenne Turbo was the first SUV to feature this type of active aerodynamics. The new Cayenne Coupé picks up

113 that ball and runs with it. On each Cayenne Coupé model, a roof spoiler is combined with a new adaptive rear spoiler as part of Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA). The spoiler – harmonically integrated into this model’s silhouette – extends by 135 mm at speeds of 90 km/h and up, increasing the contact pressure on the rear axle, while PAA simultaneously enhances efficiency. Large panoramic fixed glass roof fitted as standard, with a carbon roof option The new Cayenne Coupé comes with a 2.16 m2 panoramic fixed glass roof as standard. The 0.92 m2 glazed area gives all passengers an extraordinary sense of space, while the integrated roller blind protects against sun exposure and the cold. A contoured carbon roof is optionally available for the Coupé. The centre seam gives the roof the characteristic look of a sports car, similar to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The carbon roof is available in one of the three lightweight sports packages. These packages also include the Sport Design features and new, weight-reduced 22-inch GT Design wheels, seat centres in classic checked fabric, as well as carbon and Alcantara accents in the interior. For the Cayenne Turbo Coupé, the package also includes a sports exhaust system.

Comfort on the road with four sports seats

The new Cayenne Coupé offers plenty of space for up to four people as standard. At the front, the new eight-way sports seats with integrated headrests offer exceptional comfort and optimum lateral support. In the rear, the Coupé comes fitted as standard with a rear bench that has the characteristics of two individual seats. Alternatively, the comfort rear seats – a familiar feature of the Cayenne – can be ordered at no additional cost. Rear passengers sit 30 millimetres lower than in the Cayenne, meaning there is plenty of headroom despite the vehicle’s sporty lowered silhouette. The boot capacity is 625 litres – ideal for everyday use – and rises to 1,540 litres when the rear seats

April, 2019

are folded down (Cayenne Turbo Coupé: 600 to 1,510 litres).

Market launch with 340 hp and 550 hp turbocharged engines

The highly dynamic lines and custom design elements of the new Cayenne Coupé truly set it apart from the Cayenne. At the same time, it benefits from all the technical highlights of the model’s third generation, which features powerful drive systems, innovative chassis systems, a digitalised display and operating concept, and comprehensive connectivity. Two high-performance engines are available at market launch. The Cayenne Coupé with six-cylinder turbocharged engine and displacement of three litres delivers 340 hp (250 kW) and maximum torque of 450 Nm. The Sport Chrono Package fitted in series production vehicles achieves the standard sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, with this figure dropping to 5.9 seconds with the optional lightweight sports packages. The vehicle’s top speed is 243 km/h. The top-of-the-range Cayenne Turbo Coupé goes to the starting line with a four-litre V8 engine with twin-turbo charging, 550 hp (404 kW), and maximum torque of 770 Nm. The Cayenne Turbo Coupé accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 286 km/h. The new Porsche Cayenne Coupé models are available for order now. For country specific model information, pricing and market arrival date, please contact the local Porsche Centre.

It's your time to shine, Aries! The Sun is blazing through your sign until April 20, waking you up to your passion and purpose. You're in the zone, and the feeling is only getting stronger, especially once the year's only Aries new moon arrives on April 5. This annual lunation is your "personal new year," a cosmic coming-out party that perfectly positions you for a debut. If you've got something to launch or share, do it now. This new moon could also kick off a sixmonth self-discovery process, one that will culminate at the Aries full moon on October 13. You've got a whole block of time to let your inspired birthday-season wishes unfold. Set a few intentions, light the spark—then see where it all takes you.

Two is your magic number in April with the Sun traveling through Aries and your seventh house of committed partnerships until April 20. As the natural ruler of this zodiac zone, Libra, this is your wheelhouse. Spend quality time connecting with your closest people, checking in to make sure everything is balanced and harmonious between you. The April 5 Aries new moon could bring a partnership opportunity, either personal or professional, that merits serious consideration. While new moons take up to six months to unfold, you could start exploring whether this is a win-win scenario, asking all the important questions to suss that out.

Power down a little, Taurus. You had a pumped-up, passionate March that got you more hyped than ever. Not only was energizer Mars in Taurus until March 31, but revolutionary Uranus swooshed into your sign on March 6, setting off an explosive seven-year reinvention tour. You've been on fire with all your plans and dreams. But you're also a sensual Taurus, and all this momentum could have you a bit disconnected from your body. Heck, you could probably use a good long nap!

All systems go? April begins with a sigh of relief as we leave March's Mercury-retrograde madness in the rearview, along with its attendant drama. You're eager to get back to your routines and plans—enough chaos already! Good news: Your efforts to restore order are supported by the Sun in Aries and your sixth house of health and organization. Until April 20, el Sol is heating up this systematic sector. You're eager to bring some sharp edges back where things have gotten fuzzy.

120 Get out and win the public over, Gemini! This month begins on an energized high note thanks to go-getter Mars in your sign from March 31 to May 15. You're hyped up about an idea or initiative, and your cutting-edge concepts could draw viral attention without much effort. And with the Sun surfing through Aries and your eleventh house of popularity until April 20, you'll have no trouble creating a raving fan base or a cutting-edge collective of genius minds to produce and promote your vision. You'll succeed as a solo star AND a team player this month, a rare opportunity.

At last, a bit of fun and playful energy for you! This year has been moving nonstop for many Archers, both with new adventures and weighty demands. For that you can blame the combination of expansive Jupiter in your sign riding sidesaddle with iron-fisted Saturn in Capricorn, which is clamping down on your work and money house. Your fellow Sagittarius Britney Spears' song "Work Bi**h" might be the closest thing to an anthem that describes the year so far.

Keep your eye on those goals, Crab! The Sun is soaring through the top of your chart until April 20, blazing its annual trail through Aries and your tenth house of career and ambition. If you've been a little halfhearted about where you truly want to focus this year, Aries season can help you create a solid structure. At the April 5 Aries new moon, a professional or leadership opportunity might set you on an exciting path that unfolds between now and mid-October. All the more reason to prioritize—what you put your dedicated effort and grit into could seriously pay off before the decade ends!

Hunker down at home base, Capricorn. April marks one of the most internal and domestic months in a year already colored by a cacophony of emotions that have washed up without much warning. You're releasing major blocks and baggage, stripping away inauthentic parts of yourself and getting vulnerable. While some zodiac signs might welcome this, it's almost counterintuitive to your nature. Yet, here you find yourself, unable to get around those feelings…so you might as well go through them wholeheartedly.

Stretch wide, Leo! The Sun is in Aries and your ebullient, expansive ninth house until April 20, gifting you with the kind of wide-angle lens on life that reveals limitless possibilities. Ah, just the way you like it! The first three weeks of April draw you far out of your comfort zone with opportunities to travel, learn and explore visionary ideas. What really lights your fire, Lion? The April 5 Aries new moon could provide a healthy dose of clues, igniting your passion and sparking an idea that you pursue in the coming six months.

Synergies abound! Until April 20, the Sun is in Aries and your third house of kindred spirits and communication. You've got ideas to share and things to express—and you'll utilize every platform at your disposal. After a month of Mercury retrograde (from March 5 to 28) imposing a gag order on your genius, you're ready to let those creative concepts out of the bottle. Writing, teaching and media outlets could be your playgrounds.

Into the cocoon you go! The Sun is in Aries and your private eighth house until April 20, your annual time to go "off the grid" for some introspection and intimacy. Narrow your attention to a few key relationships and projects. Your bandwidth for the public may be low, but during this hyper-focused month, you can make serious strides around a research project or anything that requires a deeper dive.

Steady as she goes! You're primed for some calmer waters, Pisces, and April will finally deliver. And if we do say so, you've earned the right to them! Last month you endured the madness and mayhem of Mercury retrograde in YOUR sign from March 5 to 28. You're ready—eager, even—for a little bit of "boring." April serves up the stability that allows you to leave that chaos in the rearview. The Sun is in Aries and your second house of work, money and daily routines until April 20. It's a methodical, one-dayat-a-time energy that's just the right speed for you. www.theciin.com
