Purpose

Phase 1 is all about organisational design. The purpose was to: 1. Improve our organisation’s culture and structure to ensure our work meets the growing expectations of our community. 2. Improve our systems and processes to discover new ways of working. 3. Make the City of Hobart an employer of choice, with the community at the heart of everything we do.

Objectives

The objectives of Phase 1 were to: 1. Consult with staff to:

a.Understand what is working well and what needs to improve or change. b.Seek ideas around different ways of working and ideas for the future. 2. Undertake a detailed examination of units and teams, including how best to structure them and align them with the overall divisional structure. 3. Make changes to our culture and structure to deliver a new organisational design that is contemporary, affordable and sustainable, and delivers on the community’s vision.

Engagement approach

Engagement in Phase 1 was undertaken in close consultation with City of Hobart staff. The process leading up to the final structure has been an iterative approach with staff providing feedback as information and ideas have been released.

Staff had many opportunities to provide feedback including through a staff survey, one-onone meetings with the CEO, information sessions at the Town Hall and Cleary’s Gates. Staff were also able to contact the CEO via email, text message or video at any time throughout the process.
