Undergraduate Programs Music majors focus on areas including applied performance, music history, music theory, and composition while completing a rigorous core music curriculum. Students in Music Industry not only get hands-on studio experience and the chance to work with clients, but also must become accomplished musicians in their own right — which makes them highly competitive for jobs in the industry. Graduates in Music Education qualify for initial K-12 New York State certification and go on to become choral directors, band directors, and general music teachers with the skill and technology the 21st century demands. Music majors can minor in Jazz Performance or Liturgical Music, while non-majors may select from a general Music, Music Technology, or Music Business minor.

Graduate Program The master’s program in Music Education is specifically designed to help current music teachers earn their professional certification to teach music in New York state. In the process, they learn how to use state-of-the-art music technology, refine their performance skills, and develop their own unique approach to music and music education.

The College’s 107-voice Masterworks Chorale was selected as the feature performing group at this year’s NYSSMA Conference

Faculty Faculty members have studied at Juilliard, the New England Conservatory, the Eastman School of Music, and other leading schools. Many are nationally recognized for excellence in performance as well as teaching and research.

Internships and Field Experiences Music Industry internship placements are carefully considered for the student’s particular interest and congruency. These placements are matched from Albany to Los Angeles. Student teaching placements provide for music teaching experiences at both the elementary and secondary levels. In order to receive valid assessments, only Saint Rose experienced music education professors supervise the student teaching experience.

Remarkable Outcomes One alumna is an internationally renowned soprano and recording artist. A former graduate student has served as President of the New York State School Music Association and another is a current Music Supervisor. Additionally, one has shared the stage with Peter Serkin and won first prize in the International Chamber Music Competition at Carnegie Hall. Still others have distinguished themselves as “Teacher of The Year,“ music school directors, studio managers, and audio engineers working with Fortune 100 companies and headline performers.
