E.D.N.O.S. By: Jacqueline T. Rivera Like many stories, they start with pain. Years of whispers and silent shame. You know it’s too late trying to hide. Then one night the demons come. And get stuck in your mind. Hours are spent in self disgust. Staring at wide hips and an oversized bust. Your belly moves when you are not. Then impossible goals are all you’ve got. Flat stomach, hip bones, a thigh gap, and collarbones. I want to be able to see my ribs through my shirt. I want this, no matter how much it hurts. Pain come what may, lose pound by pound. At least once a day you learn to love that rumbling sound. You recover the first time, but you know in your heart that there is no stopping the minute you start.
Let the whispers begin of how small you are. Don’t ever give up, you’ve already gone this far. My name is Ana and I’m already dead. That doesn’t stop me from getting into one’s head. I can be in anyone’s; maybe even your own, Or a perhaps a poor soul that just feels alone. With me, I control you, over eating and over pain. Half of you is gone yet you still look the same. The same goes for Mia, because she also died. But you’ll never forget her, no matter how hard you try. She’ll force you to binge and then make you purge. You have no choice, it’s an uncontrollable urge. We have a father; his name is Ed. He gives us the power to control your head. He’ll never stop until the job is done. He’ll abuse his power until you’re completely gone.

Vexation By: Lenny Cabrera
Y
ou should’ve said goodbye When I said hello You should’ve left me on snap Instead of your phone We should have met at the park Instead of your home I didn’t mean to startle When I knocked the door. I look into your eyes And I can feel the pain Made me realize We are not the same. I thought you let me in We just skimmed the surface Had me chase something That wasn’t worth it. No lie I was hypnotized By the future I seen Made me believe We were always a team But even without me You were MVP And I watch from the stands As your trophies gleams This isn’t a poem To try to win you over This is a poem To have us reupholstered To have us Better than your mom’s living room This a poem To show you substance within a fool This poem contains no lies You can throw this out But always remember to F.L.Y. And to fly is to first love yourself

MEET THE Artist:
LERIKA HAHN ABADA Q: When and how did you first become interested in art?
A: I probably started being interested in art when
I was 7 years old. My mom enrolled me for an art class as one of my summer activities. For some reason, I loved and enjoyed going to art class. My teacher told me that I have great drawing skills.
Q: Where do you think your creativity comes from? A: My surroundings usually inspire me with my art pieces. Q: What are you working on currently that excites you? A: I am currently working on an issue for a Filipino-American Magazine based
here in New York. I think it is so exciting how the layouts that I created for them will soon be printed and distributed in different parts of the world.
Q: What artist would you say influences your work the most? A: To be honest, I really don’t know a lot of artists. I was not really into
researching artists. I was just at the Museum of Modern Art the other day and found myself adoring Pablo Picasso’s art. I love how he created very colorful paintings, which I also apply to my digital arts.
Q: How has CW contributed towards your artistic talent? A: CW helped me to gain confidence with my skills. The professors helped
me learn to use the programs I didn’t even know existed before. I appreciate how my art and hard work is being recognized in school, which inspires me to work harder.
Q: Which Digital Media professor has influenced your art the most? A: All my professors influenced my art without a doubt. Each and every one of
them made me think outside the box and pushed me to do better, because they knew and believed that I could do better.
Q: What type of art are you attracted to? A: I am really attracted to digital art and art that is really colorful. 8

MEET THE Artist: DIANA VILLA
Q: When and how did you first become interested in art?
A:
About 2 years ago I saw a drawing/illustration by a student at CW, Jackie, she won a scholarship for it. I found her art so interesting that I decided I want
to be part of it.
Q: Where do you think your creativity comes from? A: Most of the work I do is based on psychology. My idea is to catch your
attention and leave you wondering. Something that opens your eyes to a different perspective of life.
Q: What are you working on currently that excites you? A: I am currently creating my own logo. Having a trademark with your own
name is very important. From the drawings, the colors, the letters, the entire design is fabulous to create something that represents who you are.
Q: What artist would you say influences your work the most? A: I love Professor Grassia’s work. As a student at CW, he has influenced my career path.
Q: How has CW contributed towards your artistic talent? A: The major and most important contribution from CW was the opening of a
new major, Business Administration with a concentration in Digital Media. As a business student I was solemnly focused on the business side of a corporation. With this new degree I have the opportunity to open my mind to the attractive, creative side of any business.
Q: What is your dream project? A: To launch my own campaign worldwide. It will target kids and teens to reverse and remove the idea of being “young and stupid.”
Q: Where does an artist hang out? A: At CW, 503. Around the world, somewhere by an outlet. Me, nature, anything adventurous.

Student Portfolio S H O W C A S E
Organized by Career Services, the Student Portfolio
Showcase was a great experience for Digital Media Students as they had the opportunity to talk about their work to staff, faculty and fellow students, “I’ve been drawing since I was a teenager and my characters have evolved significantly over the years. I’m happy I can show my work to staff and faculty,” said Marcus, a Digital Media Student. Portfolios included projects in graphic design, sketching and animation, “I’m currently working on ‘Kindred Spirits’, which revolves around a young boy named Cassius, and his ethereal spirit friend Karisma, in the peaceful neighborhood of Mirage Grove,” said Raymond. Congratulations to all the Digital Media students for their wonderful presentations. Your portfolios prove you have a lot of talent!

MEET THE Artist: Madison Avelli
Q: When and how did you first become interested in art?
A: I’ve been interested in art for as long as I can
remember. Both of my parents are artists and were my first inspiration. However, I didn’t get the idea for it to be a part of my future career until High School, until then I only saw it as a hobby.
Q: Where do you think your creativity comes from? A: I think a lot of my creativity comes from when I ask myself questions like
“What if this thing happened?” and then building on top of that idea. Next thing I know a simple question gets my mind thinking of an entire story.
Q: What are you working on currently that excites you? A: Currently I’m working on the script for a comic series I’m going to draw. I’m
not sure whether I’ll post it on the internet or try to get it published as an actual book just yet. But it’s a really fun story that I am very excited to work on. I’ve been turning to friends and family to review what I have so far, and I’ve gotten many positive responses from all of them.
Q: Where does an artist hangout? A: An artist hangs out wherever they can sit down with a pencil and paper, whether it be a quiet coffee shop or a noisy street corner.
Q: How has CW contributed towards your artistic talent? A: I really feel that it helped me improve in my talent with digital art programs
like Photoshop. I’ve had some nice artistic challenges at CW that have been some wonderful learning experiences.
Q: What is your dream project? A: My dream project is to release my own video game. I may be writing a comic currently, but I’m only really doing that for the fun of it. I really want to get into the gaming industry and help develop games.
Q: What type of art are you attracted to? A: I’m mostly attracted to art styles like Gravity Falls or Star Vs the Forces of Evil. However, I’m a huge fan of old cartoons as well such as the kind that were shown in the 1930’s like Popeye and Looney Tunes.
