Our commitment to the environment: dozens of solar panels supplying 80% of our power installed on campus this spring.

With Much Gratitude from the Development Director Dear Friends: What a year it has been! It began as a typical school year with the excitement of the first day of school for our students and teachers and ended with the entire community—parents, students, and teachers—becoming well versed in the intricacies of distance learning. Even with three months of quarantine, isolation, and social distancing, our community stood up to challenges that we faced and finished the fiscal year well above our expectations. Some of this year’s highlights include: ❖

Establishment of the Teacher’s Endowment with more than $200,000 committed from a dozen families.

Virtual Spring Fling Auction that generated $28,000 for the Annual Fund.

$15,000 donated early to meet the technology needs of distance learning.

Donations totaling $320,421 for the Annual Fund, scholarships, Class of 2020 Gift, endowment, and capital.

Many thanks to all co-chairs, room parents, and volunteers who dedicated countless hours to assure the success of our events held on and off campus, including the Spring Fling Auction, Multicultural Dinner, and those sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) that bring families together for much fun and laughter. My deepest gratitude to all of you for supporting The Country School through your generous donations, in-kind contributions, and time on campus. Our success is built from your philanthropy, kindness, and trust. With much appreciation,

Nicole Cretella Burke Director of Development

TCS teachers infuse passion, creativity, and wonder into their classrooms each day to inspire, motivate, and encourage, their students to become lifelong learners both inside and outside of the classroom. Thank you, teachers!

TEACHER ENDOWMENT This year at our Holiday Program we were proud and thrilled to introduce a new endowment to our community—the Teacher Endowment, established through the overwhelming initial generosity of 12 families. Our teachers represent the heart of The Country School. They are committed to child-centered learning, professional development, and living out the school’s Mission. It is imperative, therefore, that we offer competitive compensation to retain and attract the best faculty. And the Teacher Endowment allows us to do just that—to fund ongoing salary increases, provide continuing education, advance classroom resources to maintain an innovative learning environment, and create an inclusive and diverse community. Thank you to our donors who made it possible to start an endowment of $215,000 that will fulfill the hopes and dreams of our educators. During distance learning in the spring, PK teachers didn’t skip a beat. Beginning in Branford and continuing to Guilford, Madison, Centerbrook, and Middlefield, teachers decorated their vehicles with stuffed animals, magnets, and “We miss you signs” and drove by each of their students' homes —honking, waving, and cheering.

2019-2020 ANNUAL PARTICIPATION Participation in the the Annual Giving Campaign is important not only for the donations that are received to help close the gap between tuition income and school expenditures, but also because it speaks volumes to the confidence and trust that our families, teachers, trustees, and community places in our ability to deliver a quality education that lasts a lifetime. During the 2019-2020 school year, marked by months of immense uncertainty, stress, anxiety, and isolation, your generosity resulted in 469 gifts from more than 225 donors that totaled $309,435 in support of the Annual Fund, scholarship, Class of 2020 Gift, endowment, and capital. More than half of this total was donated by current trustees and parents, and roughly 16% from grandparents, 10% from parents of alumni, 8% from former trustees, 7% from foundations, and the remaining from businesses, faculty and staff, alumni, and other friends of the school. Thank you to all our donors for another successful year in fundraising despite the challenges we all faced during the spring and final months of school. We deeply appreciate your love and support of our school. Nearly Two Thirds of Current Families Contributed to the Annual Fund— Meeting the Average of Members of the National Association of Independent Schools  Participation for AF only 2019-2020: 7/20/2020

FOUNDERS’ PROMISE FUND FOR SCHOLARSHIP Founders of The Country School firmly believed that the school should “create an open atmosphere for learning in which parents and teachers working together can help children realize their full potential." To this end, many donors have come together over the years to establish various scholarships and endowments so that all deserving students who demonstrate great promise both inside and outside the classroom could benefit from a Country School education. In 2019-2020, nearly one in four of our students received support from our scholarship resources, which include: ❖

GIFTS IN KIND As a non-profit organization, The Country School depends on the generosity of its present and past community to generate the income necessary to the operate the school. However, we also receive and welcome the many donations of goods and services that enrich the educational experience of students, improve the campus, and contribute to our auctions, fundraisers, and events.
