Notes from The Production Team At first pass, Peter and the Starcatcher is simply the prequel to the classic, Peter Pan. In this broadly comical story, we find out how Peter became who he is and how he got that name; we meet Wendy’s mother, Molly; we discover how that ticking crocodile got both the tick and Hook’s hand; and what is this substance that powers the whole show – this “starstuff?” But, as is usually the case with the stories that endure, there is more beneath the surface of the chuckle-inducing, self-important world of Victorian aristocracy at sea. Take Peter, for example. We meet him first as simply “Boy,” a young man with no name, no family, no home, no one. These are deep waters after all. How many young ones, then and now, have struggled to discover an identity in a vacuum of isolation? To what extent is identity bestowed in relationships? What’s love got to do with it? And then there is Molly Aster. Though she has “stars” in her surname, she’s not at all sure that she is one. Even with an apparently doting father, she fights tooth and nail to prove that she is good enough, smart enough, strong enough to do what is expected. But is it ever enough? It turns out the crushing weight of perfectionism is not just (or only or solely) a 21st century phenomenon! Running through the story flows this current of time and mortality. What if we could freeze time and never grow up, never die? Would that be a boon in our current condition? What if you achieved frozen immortality, but those you love did not? That sneaky, old crocodile is not just a ferocious monster on the tropical island, he’s also a pretty potent metaphor. Is time after you, or are you after time, or…? Hope you’ve brought your lively imagination along for this performance! Devised theater like this pulls you right into the storytelling, with locations suddenly shifting, living actors becoming scenery, theatrical tricks pulled off in plain sight. It’s fun! Let’s see how much starstuff goes home with you!

Cast and Crew Bios Mr. Jerry King (Producer) - Mr. King is gratified to be part of the team telling this funny-but-profound tale performed inside this year! Quite a theatrical change from Les Miserables outside last spring! It has been fun doing a deep dive into all things 19th c. British maritime for the design. Past Covenant productions also include Seussical, Footloose, South Pacific, and Big Fish. Mr. King would like to thank most of all, his wise, patient, and long-suffering wife of 37 years, Laura. Would that our whole clan of 22 could be here to enjoy this rollicking show! Ms. Tyra Robinson (Director) - God has blended professional and community theatre, academia, “non-theatre” work, and general experience into the gumbo that is my life. Working with the students here has been the filé - as the students have added such spice with their enriching and diverse perspectives on life. I am excited for the opportunity to have been a part of co-creating this production with such a wonderful group of students and production team who have committed their unique gifts and talents to the work. Your diligence and hard work have paid off. Heartfelt thanks to all who have been a part of my journey to Covenant - including (but certainly not limited to): my family, D. Bailey, the Bailey family, the Acham family, K. McGregory., S. Millner, P. Parks, B. Pedersen, J. Barbour, and N. Pors.
Mr. Dan Warren (Music Director/Pianist) - Mr. Warren is happy to be part of this production of Peter and the Starcatcher, his fourth of many here at Covenant. He would like to thank the production team and students for their work in this process, and special shoutout to Bobby Gregg for his role in bringing the show music to life. He would especially like to thank his wife, Lydia, for her support and patience during such a busy season.
