By: Molly Mau
Finally, I would like to thank Hilton Head Christian Academy for all of the opportunities. They helped me grow in my faith An example of this is while at retreat this past year, after hearing about one of my room mentor’s testimony about how she came to God, I was very moved and impacted by what she said because I related to the struggles she faced before she met God and felt a connection to her because of it. Besides helping me growing in my faith, the mentors have also assisted in building my education over the years that I have been here and I would like to thank all of them who have impacted my life as a student such as Miss Jackson, Miss Harrington, Mr. Mousseau, Mr. Abbott, and so many more. They have taught me so much and opened my eyes to new things with their influential wisdom and guidance. They saw me when others, including myself, didn't see my own talents. My mentors also helped bring out my strengths, and challenged me in my areas of weakness. Thank you mentors for everything that you have done for me and taught me over the last four years. I greatly appreciate it, and will never forget the effect you have had on my life as a student and also as a person

SENIOR SENIOR GRADUATION GRADUATION TEACHER TEACHER DEDICATIONS DEDICATIONS
With graduation gowns and caps and college decisions flying around campus, senior graduation is coming up fast Senior graduation is a time where HHCA seniors not only close a chapter of their lives, but are honored and recognized for all of their hard work and dedication throughout their high school career It is also a bittersweet time for our seniors and their families and friends, with a lot of crying and memories being shared amongst everyone. Our seniors have worked very diligently to get to where they are today, and deserve to be appreciated not only by their family and friends, but by their fellow graduates and teachers who have also been there to see them grow up.
With all of the excitement for senior graduation, our seniors start to feel eagerness and enthusiasm as graduation comes closer The feelings of anticipation are real and exciting as our seniors prepare to graduate high school and to go off to college or wherever the Lord leads them With senior graduation excitement, there is also preparation, and the seniors get to dress up. Senior girls get to wear modest and appropriate white dresses, and senior boys get to wear a nice button up with khaki or different color pants underneath their gowns. All seniors also get to decorate their caps with designs and fun accents of their choosing, such as a Bible verse, something meaningful to them, a quote, something funny, etc. They also get to be celebrated even more with graduation parties and having fun with family, friends, and fellow graduates. Graduation is an experience that is both memorable and moving for our seniors, so please come out to support them as they graduate and go on with their lives. The graduation will be held at HHCA’s football field on Friday, May 26th, 2023 at 7pm, where our seniors will be celebrated by their family, fellow graduates, friends, and HHCA mentors.

Mrs. Jackson Mrs. Jackson Mrs. Jackson
By: Molly Mau
One of the HHCA mentors who has impacted me the most is Miss Jackson. Miss Jackson saw me for who I am and helped me grow as a student and as a person through her influence as a Spanish teacher. She helped me develop creative study methods, including engaging in conversations with other students, playing games using only Spanish, and playing fun review games that helped me study for quizzes or tests. Miss Jackson has also shown me what it truly means to be a teacher through her Spanish classes as well as being her TA over this last year.
Thank you Miss Jackson for everything you have done for me and the relationship we have built over the years. I appreciate you always checking in on me and asking me about my day and how I am doing. You are such a kind, sweet, caring and amazing teacher who has been a great influence on me but also on other students through the deep relationships that you create. Continue to be a light in all of your student’s lives like you have been in mine and thank you for always making me laugh and putting a smile on my face. I will miss looking forward to my TA period with you and all of the Spanish classes that I have been with you and will never forget the knowledge that you have taught me about spanish but also about life.
Thank you Miss Jackson for everything you have taught me and other students over the years. You are such a great teacher who truly cares about students and loves and accepts them for who they are. I hope to truly be like that for my future students.
Mrs. Harrington Mrs. Harrington Mrs. Harrington
By: Gabrielle Reis
This is my first and last year at HHCA. Although I have enjoyed every class I have taken, the one that I looked forward to everyday was British English taught by Mrs. Harrington. She always made sure that everyone was participating and interested in what we were learning.
Whether we were writing a paper or reading a couple of chapters in Frankenstein; I was always excited to learn more. She was the one to encourage me to have my poem put in the Newspaper in Issue #2. She encouraged my passion to write and to share my work with others. Although she had known my classmates for a much longer timespan, she always made me feel welcomed. Even after the semester was over and I no longer had her class, she still made time to help me with writing essays for colleges and scholarships. But my absolute favorite thing about Mrs. Harrington is when she is pointing out a mistake or giving corrections, she never changes the style of my writing.
Thank you Mrs. Harrington for all that you do for us students. For making yourself available both in class and out. Even though I plan to major in the field of science, I'll make sure to never stop writing and to remember what you taught me.

The point of entertainment
What is a plot? Is it made for naught
For the crowds entertainment, For the sake of creativity, Or to see if others accept what you have made
How long have they waited for the song, For the story, for the play, for the work of art to be put on display. How much more must we make, day by day until we break.
Some run away for fear of rejection
Others boast, endlessly in pride
While I feel I have been pushed aside.
I do not wish for fame, or for all to know my name I simply follow in the steps of the great and well known for that is my passion I write to express, and to share story
Without reason, was it all for naught, this sentence I've written I think not It was a gift, to do what I do, I do not boast simply knowing it’s true. I made this play, I wrote this song, And whether you find it entertaining or not I did what I did and it is a work for God.
Not for man, not for me, but the one who is perfect in everything
Graduation Day
When we wake up on our last day here, We’ll jump for joy, or be struck with fear
It seems not long ago when we were just 8, 10, and 12 Not a care in the world, and so much time to dwell on the future
Graduation creeped up on us slowly but surely. And although it is time for us to go
There is one thing you all should know We did not do this all alone
There were parents, or teachers, friends and our preachers
They all took apart, from the day when we first started. Supporting us whether or not we asked. Giving us all they had and Not all of them will see us when the day has come to pass. But this is a thank you at long last.
We will wear our caps and gowns, feeling accomplished and proud. Tired no doubt, but this is just the beginning, Adulthood will soon come, for some later and others not at all. We will remember to get up if we fall.

Grow and learn
A seed sprouts, the egg shall hatch, and the child will grow strong.
The pages are put together, and the story contains the mistakes and child the seed and the egg
The plant will wilt as water is scarce, the bird will fall before it learns to fly, the child will do wrong before doing right. The future is blurry, not everything up ahead can be seen. Flip the pages, read, and picture the scene No matter how we squint or how long we stare, We should not waste time looking for something that is not there.
The story contains growth, through trial and error
The sprout grows in the light no matter how rough the winds are.
The baby bird's wings become strong. And the child will learn right from wrong
If I Can Help It
By: Ruby Chapman
Order and peace
A reprieve to the soul
If I can help it, I shall
A lost cause? Not worth the endeavors
I roam for a destination called success There is only one formula
To run like a factory All energy spent with purpose Merely a hopeless yearning But, if I can help it
I am riddled with flaw I must be cognizant But, "Shoot for the moon. It's alright if I miss. I'll land amongst the stars." The impractical: Perfection But, If I can help it, I shall.
The Minds of Our Leaders
By: Kyle Pepper
Hilton Head Christian Academy, or HHCA, has many teachers, staff members, and students in prominent leadership positions. In fact, the argument that every staff member and student is a leader can be made. However, this is a question that we may ponder another time. For now, we will consider if you, yourself, believe that you can become a prominent leader, or want to, glimpsing into the minds of only a few prominent leaders that are at HHCA and learning about their experiences.
The few leaders that have been interviewed for this article are Liam Reeves, Chess Captain; Mr. Smith, Upper School Principal; and Mr. Gray, Student Leadership Program Leader. When asked why they decided to take up the role, their answers were surprisingly similar. They all stated that they spent some time in the area--15 years for Mr. Smith--and felt that they were prepared with the knowledge and passion needed. They were then questioned about what was the most challenging problem that they had to resolve. Liam responded with, “Keeping some people in line.” Mr. Gray said, “The most challenging aspect of this student leadership program was trying to figure out the best way to spend our time. The only time we have together is during E-10, so trying to get everything done in that 15 minutes has been a challenge. We had to reorganize how we structured our time and the group that we had, which was very difficult." Mr. Smith responded, “Multitasking, because you deal with parents, teachers, students, and staff, as well as other people with many different situations and many different time priorities.” When confronted with the inquiry of whether they feel like they are making a difference or not, Mr. Smith had this to say, “I do, more so here than in any other schools I’ve worked at, I feel like the students are comfortable here and it is very much student led, which is my goal ” Mr Gray certainly feels the same about student leadership, as he responded, “Due to the fact that the leadership group has changed a lot since I started working with them, I would say the difference is minimal. We are starting to improve certain aspects within the different students in the group. A lot of being a leader is having influence over those around you, and a lot of our students in student leadership have that. Now we are trying to develop and sharpen certain leadership qualities. I think in some ways a difference is being made, but it will be a slow process. I am excited to see how much students have grown over the 4 years of high school, but right now, we are only a year and a half in.” While Liam claimed, “Honestly, I haven’t been captain for very long so I don’t feel like I’m making a difference, though I could be.”
When asked more intimate questions, such as what they would change if they could change one thing, Mr. Smith said that “Having more space for our students and staff as well as more parking and not having growing pains of our school’s growth, which is good that we have those pains as it means we are doing well." Also, when considering if he would do things differently if he could go back in time, Mr. Smith responded that he would simply “Believe in myself because I looked at certain jobs, and I believed that I wasn’t smart enough or good enough to be able to do them." While Mr. Gray was asked how he guides his students in his leadership class to make a difference. He declared “As, mentioned earlier, the goal of the student leadership E-10 is to develop and sharpen leadership qualities. They are also tasked to help unite the student body and plan fun events. I try to model these leadership qualities in my life for students to see and I try to bring in real-life examples as often as I can. I am using my experiences to help students develop, plan, and execute fun events for the student body to come together and have fun. Ultimately, it comes down to trying to equip students and watch them figure it out amongst their peers ” To which he also said, “I am proud of where we are, but truth be told Mr Smith had a huge part in that. I am excited for the future of this group and how the students develop not only their own leadership qualities but how they are used in this school as well. I am proud to be associated with this school and with this group, that is for sure.”
Now knowing the minds of some of HHCA’s leaders, question yourself: What would you do if you were in their positions, would you do the same things and feel the same things? Do you feel that you can become a prominent leader? Until next time, contemplate everything and adapt your philosophy.

On April 5th, HHCA'S STEM-interested students departed to the University of South Carolina to learn about their opportunities as coding and engineering majors. First, they went to the computer lab and were given a game template, which they then could code, modify, and personalize in any way they like. Next, they went to the buffet; they could get any food of their choosing, ranging from pizza and ice cream to salads and burgers. Finally, the students went on a tour around the engineering building, and they were shown multiple different labs, one of which was a newly founded aerospace lab, with simulations of actual flights as a pilot. "I enjoyed the tour, but I would have to say the free food and the classmates I got to share it with was my favorite part," says London Geyer. Overall, it was a successful trip giving the students an unforgetful experience and bringing everyone home safely.
The History of Potatoes
By: Luke Williams
Alan Alexander Milne, the famous English writer, once stated, “What I say is that, if a man really likes potatoes, he must be a pretty decent sort of fellow.” The potato is a staple of modern agricultural culture. Most people believe the potato is native to Ireland due to its blighted past. In fact, potatoes are actually native to the mountains in Peru.
The cultivation of potatoes began with the ancient Incas around 8,000 BC to 5,000 BC. They used potatoes as a measurement of time. They noted how long it took to bake a potato and then repeated the potato cooking process until the designated time was up. During the Columbian exchange, potatoes were shipped to Europe. They were not commonly eaten around Europe until during the Black Plague when King Fredrick introduced the vegetable to his citizens. And finally, they were introduced to America after a Bahamian governor sent them to DC.
Potatoes in the modern world are now a common commodity. The average American eats 120 pounds of potatoes every year.
Wendy's and Mcdonald's both utilize the bronze crop in order to make a profit. Without potatoes, the diets of billions around the world would be very different. The potato is not just a food. It is a symbol of the contemporary world.
HHCA Men’s Soccer continues 5 Game win streak with
2nd half comeback victory.
By: Ben Atkins
This past week the HHCA Men’s Soccer team won a hard-fought match against St. Andrews with a hat trick from Chaz Brigstock.
The Hilton Head Christian Academy Men's Soccer Team continued their impressive winning streak on Friday, with a stunning comeback victory against St. Andrews. Trailing by a goal with 20 minutes left, the team rallied to secure a 3-2 win and extend their unbeaten run to five games.
Down a goal with less than 7 minutes left, the HHCA team rallied to secure the win. Their persistence paid off in the 84th minute when striker Chaz Brigstock equalized for Hilton Head Christian Academy with a sublime finish from the edge of the box. The goal gave the team a much-needed boost of confidence and momentum, and they continued to push forward in search of a winner. Then, with 4 minutes left to play, Chaz secured the winning goal to continue the undefeated 5 game streak. The win takes Hilton Head Christian Academy's regular season record to five wins, one draw, and three losses. With their confidence sky-high and their winning streak intact, the team will be looking to maintain their impressive form in the weeks ahead.
Baseballin'
The moment that many HHCA baseball fans have been anticipating finally arrived during the week of April 10th. During spring break, the baseball team was hard at work competing in the H.I.T. tournament in Charleston. The Eagles faced three opponents during the tournament including Lucy Beckham, Hanahan High School, and Bishop England. The Eagles started the tournament strong with a 15 to 4 victory over Lucy Beckham, however as the tournament went on, the Eagles lost their final two games. Despite these losses, the Eagles still remain ranked number 2 in the region with a standing of 2-2 in regional matches this season.
Throughout Hilton Head and Bluffton, there are many small businesses, local shops, and boutiques. One of the more recent additions to Bluffton is Nantucket’s Meat and Fish Market, located in Tanger 2. As a specialty grocery store, Nantucket offers products you might not see in your local Publix or Kroger. In addition to the high-quality meat and specialty groceries, they recently opened their new pizzeria and bar, Pizzas and Pints. Pizzas and Pints are a great way to incorporate food with the shopping experience, grab dinner, relax, and catch up on sports games. Their menu consists of a wide array of sandwiches, pizzas, and sides such as salads and wings. With the new addition of Pizzas and Pints, their store hours have changed to 10:00 a.m.8:00 p.m.
Nantucket also offers many deals and discounts that apply on certain days. For instance, every Monday-Thursday 3:00-8:00, there is a buy-one, get-onefree deal on the sirloin burgers. For those who live in Moss Creek, Belfair, Berkeley, Sun City, and Colleton River, you're all in luck because you receive 10% off on your purchase on your discount day. The discount days are as follows: Monday: Moss Creek, Tuesday: Belfair/Berkeley, Wednesday: Sun City, and Thursday: Colleton River. 10% is also awarded to those staying at the Hilton Head RV resort.
Originating in Nantucket MA, then expanding to Martha's Vineyard, and now down to Bluffton, Nantucket offers delicious, high-quality food and groceries. What's even better is that if you are looking for a job, they are hiring! If you are interested, positions such as dish prep, pizza artist, bartender, and meat counter attendant are available. You can pick up an application in-store if interested.
