The Crypt Teaching School Alliance Invites you to attend our FREE On-Line CPD Sessions Teaching Staff Continued Learning and Professional Development Training Program (On-line) – 3.30pm – 5.30pm 2020-21


Pathway 4: Senior Leadership Who should undertake this pathway? Experienced middle leaders, or existing senior leaders, will find this pathway useful to their exploration of the nature of senior educational leadership. Lead: Nick Dyer & Phil Stanlake This pathway will commence with all participants undertaking a 360 evaluation of their current strengths, their understanding of educational leadership, and of self as a benchmark through which they will be able to both focus their professional development pathways on, and as a means through which they can evaluate their own progress as a leader. This pathway will also require all participants to conduct a short in-school research project in an identified and agreed whole-school area, linked to whole-school priorities as set out in the annual School Improvement plan. Participant are also encouraged to undertake a school visit as part of this course. Participants will be provided with an in-school mentor to help support them through the program and with their project. Unit

Focus

1: What is senior leadership in an educational context?

This introductory session will focus on the characteristics and nature of senior leadership in schools and allow participants to develop their own understanding of their roles as senior leaders.

2: The different roles and responsibilities of senior leaders

3: Working with stakeholders

It will also consider the importance of educational context in developing one’s approach to senior leadership This session will investigate the varied roles and duties that senior leaders play in school and help enable participants to consider their own roles or their planned future role

This session will focus on the importance of working with all stakeholders in seeking to bring about school improvement and institutional change

4: Working with Trustees

Headteachers must develop strong relationships with their Board of Trustees, who offer challenge and support to the Head and their senior teams. This session will focus on the role of school trustees and how to build and sustain a strong relationship with them This final session will allow participants to consider the nature of headship and where they feel they are on their leadership journey
