Physical Education & School Sport Our PE curriculum is one which encourages participation, alongside challenging and developing students of all abilities and promotes lifelong involvement in physical activity. Through a broad PE curriculum, students develop a thorough understanding of a wide range of activities and discover new skills alongside important qualities such as perseverance, confidence, resilience, sportsmanship and teamwork. The PE Curriculum is designed through three ‘Golden Strands’. Firstly, Skill Development which ensures students have the opportunity to develop the skills to be successful in a wide variety of activities. Secondly, focusing on Tactics & Strategies allow students to gain a deep understanding of the different attributes of each activity and finally, underpinning student’s development is the emphasis on Physical Movement. All students are able to develop their physical literacy which enables them to maximise their performance but, more importantly, become motivated to take part in sport beyond school, promoting an active, healthy lifestyle. Coupled with the PE curriculum are the extensive opportunities available to students to participate in competitive sport. Physical development and learning goes far beyond the classroom and students access extensive opportunities to represent the school and challenge themselves in a competitive environment. Students are continuously supported and challenged to flourish within PE and school sport; this could be within the Sports Academy programme or simply being inspired to take part in physical activity. We are confident that the environment, and high standards established, allows for all students to make significant progress across all aspects of PE and school sport.
