THE CRYPT SCHOOL 24th October 2019 Dear all, The end of term 1 is upon us and what a successful one it has been. Year 7 have embraced school life fully and are now participating in a huge range of activities at lunchtime. Already we have students competing for the school in rugby and netball and on the 7th of November at Plock Court 20 year 7 students will represent the school in the district cross country. Open Day on Wednesday was one of our busiest ever. Visitors commented on how wonderful our students, and year 7s, are. This is very much in line with the positive attitude we see in year 7s every day. Please encourage your children to use half term to recover from their first term at secondary school. It is important students get a chance to recharge their batteries. After half term, a set of effort grades will be sent home to give you an indication of how they are doing effort wise so far. Later in the year this will include attainment grades. The house system is now in full swing with human table football, bench ball and cross country already taken place. In the new term there will be dodgeball, chess, paper aeroplane, carols, table tennis and a Christmas sing a long. The current house scores are: Henley 2900, Brown 2500, Moore 2300, Raikes 2300 and Whitefield 1900. The year 7s homework timetable will include all subjects from next term. We aim for a balanced variety of tasks to enhance your child’s learning. Please see below for some guidance on how to support your child’s school work; • Take an interest, but do not do your son’s/daughter’s work for them. • Find your son/daughter a space to work – this may not have to be on their own in their bedroom. • Some students will feel happier working in the kitchen or sprawled out on the living room floor. Sometimes (when doing revision for example) you may have to help with ensuring a quiet environment, whilst on other occasions a family discussion could be more effective. • If you have any concerns about students spending too much or too little time on their homework, please do let us know via their tutor. I hope you all have a restful and happy Half Term. Kind regards, Mr Hart, Head of Year 7
