The Crypt School footwear guidance

Uniform is important because it promotes belonging and inclusion. In line with our school values, all students are expected to take pride in their uniform, respect our rules and expectations and take responsibility for their choices.

The Crypt School’s uniform requirements can be found on our website: https://wwwcryptschool org/uniform

Our uniform is smart and inclusive and we hope all students will take pride in their uniform and none will feel disadvantaged We also have secondhand uniform available through the CSPTA which is an affordable and sustainable option This can be browsed here: Uniformd co uk

Shoes

We expect students to wear formal/dress shoes These should be leather or similar material that can be polished They must be black for Year 7-11 and Sixth Form may wear black or brown shoes

Canvas shoes, boots, trainers and shoes with logos are not permitted This is because they are not smart and in many cases not inclusive, often costing more than smart formal shoes Please do not buy trainers for school - most shoe vendors sell formal shoes that are more supportive than trainers Supportive shoes chosen must not be branded with logos or high heels, and must still be smart

There are a number of outlets that advertise all black trainers as ‘for school’, several of these are trainers and do not meet our uniform guidelines If you are unsure do feel free to check with us (via your child’s Head of Year) that the shoes match the guidelines above Generally, if they are formal, smart and can be polished they will be appropriate for the formal, academic setting of school Retailers such as Clarks and Shoe Zone offer several appropriate options

The following examples of shoe styles are all formal and smart and therefore appropriate footwear for school

Medical conditions

A doctor's note will be required if any student needs to wear different shoes for medical reasons The Form Tutor should be contacted about this in the first instance so any support can be coordinated

Inner soles for medical needs or extra support

Students who require extra support may find it useful to wear insoles with their school shoes These are available from retailers including Boots and Superdrug on online retailers, for example: Shoe Insoles | Orthotics | Foot Care - ShoeInsoles co uk

Not permitted

All branded trainers or high top casual shoes are not permitted (including but not limited to Nike, Adidas, Vans and Converse) as they are not smart enough for school and are prohibitively expensive for many families, therefore not consistent with our inclusive community Ballet pumps are also not permitted as they do not offer sufficient support Heeled shoes not acceptable for health and safety reasons, to prevent student injury
