ummer fashion is all about adding a little more color to the world and to your wardrobe, and this year it’s all about colorful florals – whether they be bright or more subdued. Our feature photo shoot takes you to Highfield Hall in Falmouth, which is the perfect venue for our version of a Garden Party. We also share our obsession with summer shoes, as well as our picks for items that are musthaves for summer 2018. When we launched in 2012, we knew we wanted to offer something different to the Cape Cod community - a publication that was more contemporary for people who love the Cape’s classic style, but who also love to experiment with trends and appreciate fashion as a form of art and self-expression.

RUN WAY RUNDOWN Ever hear a fashion buzz word and wonder what the heck the stylists are talking about? Here is your guide to the trends of the season.
Style Long and Loose
Detail Embellished Straps
In the warmer weather, dresses incorporate straps into their design, as long sleeves become unnecessar y. This allows for another decorative opportunity for designers who are adding embroidery, beads, and sparkle to straps; or simply as an interesting style element where one appears on the diagonal or crisscrossed in front.
This summer’s “it” dress is all about being unstructured, voluminous and comfortable. Gone are the days of only feeling fashionable in waisthugging and form fitted designs, because now long and loose is on trend and can be found in the style of a boyfriend-sized button-up shirt or as a maxi-dress with spaghetti straps.

persimmon

Hemline Handkerchief
A trend that usually stays in the categor y of “boho-chic” has now entered the mainstream. Handkerchief hemlines are drapey and uneven, and lend a light and pretty, flowy and flirty element to any style dress.
Print Rainbow Stripes
Rainbow prints aren’t just for kids anymore. The joyful and playful colors are showing up in all sorts of ways on fashion runways from structured shift dresses to loose wide-legged pants. You can also find the colors of the rainbow incorporated into accessories such as shoes, bags, and earrings.

ighfield Hall & Gardens, the magnificent Victorian mansion with beautiful gardens located in Falmouth, is a unique combination of historic home, expansive gardens and trails, and a vibrant cultural center. Built in 1878 as the summer home for Boston’s Beebe family, the mansion sits on 5.5 pristine acres surrounded by nearly 400 acres of conservation land and public walking trails. While there’s plenty of history within the glorious old walls, Highfield Hall & Gardens is not your typical historic estate. Highfield Hall offers world-class music, contemporary art exhibitions, family programs, and year-round special events. We felt the gardens and grounds would lend themselves perfectly to a garden themed photo shoot, but the June-onCape-Cod weather did not cooperate so we moved our shoot indoors where the floral prints added the “garden” element to the elegant indoor setting.

ST YL E P RO F IL E Can you tell us about your connection to Cape Cod and a little bit about your background? I grew up in Barnstable Village and graduated from Barnstable High School. I spent my summers sailing with my family to Nantucket and the Vineyard. Year round I could be found exploring the tidal flats of the Cape's Northside.
Julia Goldstein After spending the majority of her adulthood exploring the world, studying fashion and working for the Converse brand, Barnstable native Julia Goldstein has found her way back to back to Cape Cod to start another chapter in her life as a small business owner and to make a contribution to the community that has given her so much through the years. 38
How did you get interested in the fashion industry? Growing up on the Cape in the late 80s and 90s there was limited access to fashion. I would troll every yard sale, thrift shop and fabric store for treasures, and my grandmother taught me how to refashion them and make them my own. She also taught me knitting and crochet basics but I fell hard for sewing and went on to study fashion in Paris. In this tech heavy digitally dominated world, I continue to crave tactile and crafted work that tells stories of its origins and makers. The Cape did seem to install in me, a great respect for tradition, and classic style and very much influenced my reason to spend 12 years devoted to the iconic brand Converse. What did you do at Converse? I worked my way through different facets of the design process: working in color, product design, and as a design director. Wearing so many different hats gave me great exposure, experience, and opportunities to collaborate with amazing companies, such as Marimekko and

be a challenge to find a good fit, in terms of work, and knew that I would likely need to make my own job. From the moment I learned the Yarn Hound was for sale, I knew what I wanted to do next. I was so excited about the opportunity to support and evolve this fiber community with nearly 40 years of history, and also so excited about the physical quality of the Studio, a storied antique from You recently took over the Yarn Hound in Dennis 1825 that really gives a sense of place, and has an attached - what made you want to move back to the Capeand apartment that we will be using as flex studio space, and open a yarn studio? artist in residence accommodations.
