OUR HISTORY
“Preserving our Christian,Waterfowling Heritage” The Christian Waterfowlers Association was formed by Tim Sallee in September of 2009. However, the idea for the CWA originated back in 2002 while on a duck hunt with his brother Anthony Sallee on the banks of the Arkansas River. Tim was first introduced waterfowling while serving as a youth minister in Fort Smith, Ark. almost thirty years ago. One of his youth members demonstrated using a duck call during a “Gong Show” talent night. He was fascinated with the call and after inquiring about the call and duck hunting was invited to go on a hunt by the youth and his older brother. The hunt experience was incredible, with awesome weather and the perfect sunrise. Right after daybreak about fifteen mallards flew over our backs and circled back with their wings cupped and feet down. “Take Em,” yelled the youth, as Tim raised his gun to shoot. He was so moved by seeing ducks decoy, that he shot three times and did not hit one duck. However, a few weeks later on his second hunt he bagged his first ever mallard and was hooked on duck hunting for life. Tim then introduced waterfowling to his older brother Mark Sallee, his younger brother Anthony Sallee and Mark’s sons Mitchell and Matthew. He always looked forward to spending time in the duck blind with his family and friends each year. Anthony moved to Nashville, Tenn. in the 1980’s and early 1990’s to play bass for the Christian band “White Heart.” He went on to play for Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant and Matthew West to name a few. While taking a break from the road, 3

he drove in to spend time with family as well as some time in the duck blind. While on a hunt in 2002, Tim and Anthony first brought up the idea combining a passion for Christ with the passion for waterfowling, as well as the idea of a Fellowship of Christian Athletes for waterfowlers, but the idea didn’t get much further than Anthony designing a sample logo or two. After hosting a Wild Game Dinner in September of 2009, Tim saw firsthand the impact of bringing sportsmen together for fellowship and introducing them to Christ. The idea for CWA resurfaced. After much prayer and consideration, he felt it was time move forward with the launching of the CWA website and forum as well as crafting the CWA mission statement: Since that time the CWA has launched close to fifty chapters in fifteen states and continues to add new chapters each month. Chapters meet monthly for food, fellowship, pro-tips, devotion and an invitation to know Christ. Chapters also hold annual outreach/fundraiser dinners, along with various youth hunting, conservation and CWA Wounded Veterans Waterfowl Events.
Waterfowler’s Trap Shooting Competition, 3D Archery Competition and Wild Waterfowl Cook-off Competition. Other activities include our Blue Wings Youth Kidz Zone featuring a fishing derby, seminars, Outreach/ Fundraiser Dinner, Sportsman’s Chapel, concerts and more. In 2012 the CWA held its first Blue Wings Youth Waterfowl Hunting Event during the Oklahoma youth waterfowl hunt. After receiving requests to organize a Wounded Veteran’s Duck Hunt, the first ever CWA Wounded Veteran’s Waterfowl event took place in January of 2014 at the Crooked Slough Hunting club in east Arkansas. Since the beginning of CWA, hundreds of lives have been impacted by the Gospel of Christ. The CWA also hosts an annual meeting and festival. In 2014 the CWA celebrated its 5th Annual International Waterfowl Festival & Outdoor Expo. HARVEST OF BLESSING Living For Jesus Isn’t About What We Can Get DEVOTION BY JAKE McNEAL
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a mans sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
Many times I have read this passage from Paul to the Church in Galatia. It is both incredibly profound and a foundationally basic truth, having implications for both daily living and eternity. I truly believe that Paul was speaking both of eternity to come as well as to the manner in which, we as followers of Christ, are to live our daily lives. The former speaks of reaping a harvest of destruction and corruption due to Gods judgment based on decisions that we make by our own will. The latter refers not to judgment, but to the natural order of the universe as God as we abide by the Spirit and Gods will; you reap what you sow. Working in agriculture, I live in a cycle of sowing and reaping, planting and harvesting. I will harvest according to what I plant. At home in Alabama where cotton is still king, I had better plant cotton if I want to harvest white gold in the fall. If we understand that planting soybeans or corn won’t lead to a harvest of cotton, then why can’t we as Christians understand that sowing unrighteousness will never produce a harvest of blessing? There are several points that I would like to share that I believe have special value in reference to sowing and reaping while we are here on earth.

SURRENDER
Sowing to the Spirit requires us to be incredibly intentional in doing so. This isn’t something that happens by accident. It is something that becomes more natural and a deeper rooted desire as we mature in Faith, but never anything less than intentional.
Surrendering your life to Jesus. Sowing to the Spirit requires the Spirit to replace our will for the perfect plan of God to be inacted in our life. Without this change of our will to the will of the Spirit, a harvest of blessing cannot take place in our lives.

DEVOTION - WORD
Sowing to the spirit is not a one-time act, but a continual work as we are sanctified and growing in Christ. I don’t plant my seed and walk away. I tend to the field over the course of the season and continue in my labor until harvest comes.
Devotion to the Word of God. It is impossible to sow to the Spirit if we don’t know what the Spirit says, which is in fact what the entirety of God’s word is; the Holy Spirit speaking through men and the Truth is revealed.

DEVOTION - PRAYER
Whether we sow to the flesh or to the Spirit, others will be affected. Others will share in the harvest we bring about. We will corrupt or edify not only ourselves but our families, friends, and all those around us.
Devotion to prayer. Not just talking to God, but having an avenue into His very presence through our High Priest, Jesus Christ.
Living for Jesus isn’t about what we can get, but about who we are as a lost people, what He did in paying our sin debt, and our joyful submission to His Lordship. Sowing to the Spirit is what comes out of the New Creation which we are in Christ. With this Truth as a foundation, I then ask the question, “So what does sowing to the Spirit look like and how does that manifest itself in the life of a follower of Christ?” As I mentioned, sowing to the Spirit is an intentional act on our part and requires several things.
I am incredibly passionate about agriculture, bow hunting, and chasing ducks. I am a fool if I expect to be successful during the fall if I don’t plant, manage, scout, and sweat with intention during the summer months. How much greater of a fool am I if 1) I put these passions before my relationship with Jesus, 2) I don’t sow that much more intentionally to the Spirit that I may reap a harvest of blessing, both in life and in eternity. Let us never forget that we are but laborers, sojourners in a land that is not our home, and that God alone brings the harvest. CHRISTIAN WATERFOWLER |

LIFE STORY OF JOSHUA JOHNSTON EDITED BY BRITTANY & TARA SALLEE WITH VANCE KLEMPLE
Joshua Johnston entered the Army at age 20 and would soon realize his need for something greater than what this world offers. Josh grew up going to a Catholic church, but as he entered his teen years, he quickly became disconnected from church and religion as a whole. He suffered abuse, both physically and emotionally, from his stepfather, which led to him living in a children’s shelter. Fear crept into Josh’s life as he saw the way other children were treated. This sparked a fire in Josh’s life to protect himself while trusting no one. Especially God. When he joined the army, he met his wife. They would soon have their first child. But when it came time for Josh’s wife to give birth, he was deployed to Iraq in November of 2006. He recalls that when his family moved to Las Vegas a change in his wife occurred. Josh’s wife accepted Christ as her savior. Josh observed how his wife was effected by accepting Jesus Christ into her life with a change in attitude, heart, and outlook on life. She was strong and determined, but her decisions had become different because her heart and mind had a change of perspective. This became a catapult for Josh to start thinking about God, as he states: “Every time I went on a mission or left my truck, I found myself praying to something or someone. I had reached a point where I knew that I needed more than my own willpower to overcome the fear I was experiencing.” Josh realized that despite all of the fear he had faced in his life and all of the difficulties he had juggled, Christ was a firm foundation. In 2009, Josh and his wife had their second child and were later baptized. Eventually, they would adopt a boy from Ethiopia and Josh would pursue his Bachelor’s degree in Religious studies. With adoption on their minds, they felt led to adopt from Russia; however, Russia would not grant the adoption to American families. Disappointment set in, but that did not stop Josh and his wife from seeking God and His will for their lives. After a nationwide search, they found a two month old girl who was born in prison to a mother who was HIV positive. They knew that adopting this girl was the right thing to do and they proceeded. After adopting her in November of 2015, the girl tested HIV negative. Josh praised God for this miracle. In December, shortly after the adoption, Josh attended a Wounded Warriors Waterfowl Event in Alabama that was hosted by the Christian Waterfowlers Association. He recalls that it was a “great time of fellowship and a great opportunity to get out into the woods in a new area”. It was on this hunt that Josh was paired with Scott Smyth, Alabama CWA State Rep. 11 | CHRISTIAN WATERFOWLER
Their conversation about church and the guidance of God was life-changing indeed. Josh states that, “something as small as a conversation on a duck hunting trip can lead to huge changes.” Those changes lead Josh to apply to the Liberty University Masters of Divinity program. He was accepted and is now enrolled in the 2016 Fall semester. Josh will start classes with excitement and hopeful anticipation as he seeks God in his life. TEAL HUNTING TACTICS BY ANTHONY WADE SMITH
With sweat dripping off my eyebrow I think in my mind, are we in the right spot? I haven’t seen those other guys come in here today. I unwrap a cord and grab each decoy and then connect it to the mainline. Wings somehow quiet, but in the blink of an eye seem as micro jets with afterburners full throttle flying across the edge of our spread. I laugh inside quietly as I trudge back to the water’s edge. The sound screams across the spread of 6 dekes again. One of the guys stopped talking because he just realized we are about to have tiny silhouettes swimming through the decoys. The dawn is starting to break with the orange clouds that fill the volunteer sky. It’s a beautiful sight to behold and be a part of.
Next are a few tips that I want to share to help make your early season a success.
All of a sudden I feel a buzz… buzz….. buzz.. coming from deep in my wader pockets It’s my alarm going off marking shooting time. That marks the beginning of my duck season for the year.
We use very few decoys during teal season and for the most part decoys without weights. Even though we use very few decoys the decoys that we have out need to be moving. I personally use the Mega Motion Jerk Rig by Rig Em Right Waterfowl for this job. Easily moving a dozen or less decoys is not problem. Hunting without standard weights on the decoys lightens our load. Simply attach the decoy to the clips along the mainline of the jerk string will bring your spread to life.
Remember to obey the hunting laws, introduce someone to the hunt, and always enjoy the hunt. It is a blessing from above.

1. TIMING The areas around Tennessee that I hunt for teal and wood duck are mostly public land. One of the best tips I can give any waterfowler hunting public land is plan your meet up or arrival 15 to 30 ahead of the hour. Because most people set plans on the hour. Arriving 15 to 30 minutes before the top of the hour means that the other hunters will not, in most cases, beat you to the hole.

3. CALLING I remember from my teenage years meeting up with my friends and hunting the bottoms around my hometown. Getting a limit or two of a mixed bag of blue wing and green wings. I often use a 6-in-1 call. The sounds used in the 6-in-1 call are used to generate the male teal call. To create the male sound, blow a sharp Teee sound with quick short bursts. Separate each note by using a “1 and 2 and 3” cadence. To simplify the cadence simply blow on the number and not on the “and.” After a few cadences of the male call I will incorporate the hen teal call. This sound is similar to the hen mallard hail but higher in pitch and quicker in cadence. I recommend a hen teal specialty call. There sound is very quick and course.

LABRADOR RETRIEVERS HELP TEACH ABOUT GOD’S RELATIONSHIP WITH BELIEVERS BY SUSAN BROWN
On command, a sleek Labrador retriever trots through the auditorium. She is strong, highly trained and focused. She is on a mission – to retrieve a lost “sheep” tucked away by the trainer she adores. Ignoring the distractions around her, she listens intently for his voice, follows his lead and obeys his command. Come. Sit. Stay. Through Obedience to Death Ministry, Johnny Morgan takes his prized Labrador retrievers to churches and schools from Louisiana to Oklahoma to explore the character of God and his relationship to believers. He hopes to encourage people to live in attentive obedience to God. The response is remarkable. “People pay attention to dogs,” explains Morgan, who serves as associate pastor and student minister at Live Oak Baptist Church in Denham Springs (Watson area). “When we first started, we figured probably five or six presentations, with two or three thousand people. We never thought we’d have 62,000 people.” To date, Morgan says some 8,000 people have come to know the Lord through the dog ministry.

Glory sits in rapt attention to Morgan, and only Morgan. “I’ve had 1,600 students chant her name and she’ll only go on my voice command,” Morgan says. “That’s just how we’re supposed to fix our eyes on God. He knows our voice and we know his voice when we’re walking with him.”

But his most significant command is “stay,” a reference to his favorite Bible verse, Psalm 46:10: “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” “And I think in today’s society, we don’t get still enough,” Morgan says. “We just rush, rush, rush, and that’s a constant reminder for me that I need to get still and I need to know him, and when I do, he’s going to be exalted.” Obedience to Death is an outgrowth of Kingdom Dog Ministries in Houston, Texas, a nonprofit that trains dogs and holds presentations across the US. A longtime connection with founder Hank Hough who kindled Morgan’s interest in the dogs’ abilities. He says the timing and substance of his ministry was also God’s design. Hough uses scripture to register his ministry dogs with the American Kennel Club. Morgan’s original dog responds to the name “Glory” for training and command purposes. “After we made the final decision, I asked, ‘what’s her registered name?’ When he said Psalm 46:10, I got real quiet,” Morgan says. “It’s like God had put her aside for me three years prior to that, and my first dog in this ministry was going to be my life verse.” Hough began using scripture names at certification hunt tests to spark curiosity. When the names of successful dogs are announced, other owners often ask, for example, why he named his dog John 8:28, “Then Jesus said to them, ‘When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father taught me, I speak these things.” Hough uses that opportunity to start a
conversation about Jesus. “Then Jesus said to them, ‘When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father taught me, I speak these things.” Hough uses that opportunity to start a conversation about Jesus. People often ask what it takes to run a dog ministry. Time, commitment and money are key, and the investment is significant. “They’re my dogs. They live with me and I spend 20 minutes every day with each dog, minimum,” Morgan says. “If we really spent 20 minutes in God’s word and prayer, our lives would be transformed just like theirs.”
“If you’d have asked me 30 years ago when I graduated high school if I would be in the ministry today, I’d have told you no, absolutely not,” Morgan says. “If you had told me that I would be presenting the gospel in front of 1,600 junior high students with Labrador retrievers, I’d have told you absolutely not.” “So it’s just about being obedient and being available. I’ve hunted literally since I was big enough to walk,” he says. “To be able to use that for God now is incredible.”
Through consistent training and companionship “at some point the light bulbs start going off as to what he’s called us to do,” Morgan says. “My young dog that I’m training, Zach [Zachariah], has the registered name Proverbs 3:5 and 6,” a challenge to walk in faith. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, he shall direct your paths.”

Obedience to Death operates as a nonprofit that provides performances free of charge, although many of the schools and churches he visits provide donations. That makes it possible to visit locations that cannot afford to hire motivational speakers. “One principal said we accomplished so much in our presentation because there were probably 70 kids that accepted Christ in the school that day out of 700. To not charge was a blessing,” Morgan says. Members of Live Oak Baptist help support Obedience to Death with prayer and contributions. “I have probably 20 people who have donated to help buy dogs and equipment. I have a prayer network of just prayer warriors that are praying constantly for my ministry,” he says.

One of the most exciting things to me about being an outdoorsman has always been the opportunity to hunt up a good meal. PREPARATION 1. In food processor or blender, combine garlic and thyme. Crush to form a paste. 2. Loosen skin on duck breast but do not remove. Rub garlic-rosemary paste on duck between the skin and the meat. 3. Lightly season with salt and pepper. 4. Place duck in hot skillet fat side down, cook for aprox. 5 min or until skin is crispy. 5. Once duck breast is crispy remove from pan, place appropriate serving of cooked blackeyed peas into pan. Place duck breast skin side up on top of black-eyed peas and cook in oven at 275 for 15 min.
PREPARATION 1. Pick hard stems out of collard greens and radish leaves, place in stainless steele mixing bowl. 2. Rip or tear leaves into bite size pieces. 3. All remining ingrediants into mixing bowl, throughly massage the greens to soften them with the vinegar and garlic.
PREPARATION 1. Rinse dried beans and cook in boiling water until tender. About 20-45 minutes. 2. Cook bacon in a hot skillet. Once crisp, remove bacon bits and half the rendered fat (reserve). In the remaining fat, cook off onions and garlic until onions are translucent. Add the celery and peppers. Saute for 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes with cover the pot with a lid, lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Add cooked bacon and stir well. Keep warm. CHRISTIAN WATERFOWLER | 24

There is a reason why the hair stands up on the back of your neck when you watch the ducks as they prepare to land in your decoys or even when the tip of your fishing rod snaps down towards the water. God made you to know Him and is seeking you through the outdoors...And through His Son Jesus. In the outdoors you will see the greatness of God and in Jesus you see the grace of God.
WE HAV E ALL MIS S E D T H E M A R K Romans 3:23 - “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” It’s like trying to make a clear shot when the sight of your rifle is off. No matter how hard you try - you are going to miss. We have all missed the mark of the perfection that is required to get into heaven.
YOU ARE BE IN G H U N T E D Hunting, as we know, involves pursuing game. The Bible tells us that we don’t have the ability to pursue God, but He is pursuing us! Romans 3:10-11 - “As is it written: There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.”
However, you are also hunted by another! 1 Peter 5:8 - “Be self-controlled and alert, your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” You are being pursued by Satan as well as by God. You get to choose who captures you.
W E H AV E AL L MI SS ED TH E MARK How do I let God capture my heart? Romans 10:9-10 - “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scriptures say, anyone who trusts Him will never be put to shame.” TO CONFESS JESUS AS LORD AND SAVIOR OF YOUR LIFE AS WELL TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR TRUST IN HIM, YOU CAN PRAY THIS SIMPLE PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I want You to capture me. I believe that You are God’s Son. I believe that You gave your life for me on the cross and was raised from the dead to save me. I surrender control of my life to You. I invite You to come into my life. I will follow You for the rest of my life. Thank you Jesus for saving me.
