Where Instrumental Partnerships are Formed & Groundbreaking Announcements are Made
Iraq Petroleum: Catalysing Investment in the Iraqi Oil & Gas Industry for Over 5 Years
CWC’s Iraq Petroleum Conference is the most significant international gathering in Iraq’s oil and gas industry, and has over the past 5 years gathered more than 5000 senior executives from all areas of the energy sector. This unique Conference has become an established and important event as every year it brings together both Iraqi officials and international decision makers and helps to catalyse investment in Iraq.
2007 The launch of Iraq Petroleum in 2007 provided the first and only opportunity for potential investors to meet senior Iraqi government officials. The event took place in Dubai opened by H.E. Dr Hussain Al‐Shahristani, the Minister of Oil, Iraq.
2008 Following on the success of its launch, the 2008 event was specifically structured for Iraqi and international decision makers to benefit from this only opportunity to explore prospects within Iraq‘s oil industry. The reception held at the Babylon Exhibition at the British museum further helped in forming these partnerships.
2009 The 2009 Conference was held as Iraq’s first two licensing rounds were announced. It proved to be an essential forum for internationals to gain insight into the developments and future opportunities in the industry. The Conference was the platform that highlighted the plans in auctioning off the contracts.
2010 As an established event, Iraq Petroleum 2010 saw massive growth in the participation of delegates and speakers, including the participation of H.E. Dr Ashti Howrami, Minister of Natural Resources, from the Kurdistan Regional Government.
2011 Last year’s Iraq Petroleum brought together a global network of over 400 senior level professionals, from 29 countries, in over 15 sectors of the oil and gas industry. With the participation of senior Iraqi and international government officials, established companies and new players in the market, Iraq Petroleum is now the essential meeting place for the industry.

Oil reserves in Iraq have the potential to be the largest in the world according to recent geological surveys and seismic data. The Iraqi government has stated that new exploration showed Iraq has more than 350 billion barrels worth of oil, and officially confirmed that their reserves rank third largest in the world at approximately 143 billion barrels. With this potential, and the World Bank expecting Iraq’s GDP to grow phenomenally in the next three years, now is the prime time to invest in Iraq.
“We are implementing a plan that is unprecedented in the history of Iraq’s oil industry, multiplying oil and gas production to four times and building gigantic infrastructure and projects to turn Iraq into a key energy source in the world.”
