Steve Spurrier said it best after South Carolina edged out Florida 19-14 Saturday night. “Somehow or another, it worked out again,” Spurrier said. The 2013 season has been full of suspense for the Gamecocks and the game against the Gators was no

different. South Carolina (8-2, 6-2 SEC) took the opening drive of the game all the way down to the Florida two-yard line thanks to a 23-yard run by Mike Davis and a 39-yard hookup between Connor Shaw and Damiere Byrd. However, the Gators defense stiffened and the Gamecocks were forced to settle for the short field goal. Then, on Florida’s f irst drive, t he tack ling problems that have plagued South Carolina’s defense throughout the season made an appearance as Kelvin Taylor broke a handful of tackles on his way to a 20-yard touchdown to give the Gators a 7-3 lead.

A career-long 45-yard field goal for Elliot Fry cut the lead to one, but Taylor answered again for Florida (4-6, 3-5 SEC). This time, it was a 29-yard touchdown that put the Gators up 14-6, a lead they would hold at halftime. “We had trouble scoring around the three-yard line two or three times but Elliot Fry kicked some field goals and our defense was really sensational the second half,” Spurrier said. The offense received a spark early in the second half that once again cut the lead to one. The SUSPENSE • 10

It’s more focused on one section of MOORE the paper and I think the last semester has helped me take a step back and take a look at all the sections and how they fit together.” Moore will take over for fourth-year broadcast journalism student Sydney Patterson, who fi lled the editor-in-chief position this semester.

A sma l l role of d ist r ibut i ng event posters as a freshman has given way to major leadership opportunities for Adam Mayer, who will take over as president of Carolina Productions in January. Mayer, who c u r rent ly leads CP’s concer t s committee, says he wants to create opportunities for more students to take paths to leadership as he has

through CP. “Every little thing you do, from handbills to making reference calls, really makes a difference in our organization. So that’s one of my huge focuses for the following year,” said Mayer, a third-year exercise science student. “Making sure that we have things for people to do to make it meaningful and making a meaningful experience is a huge goal I have.” The success of the organization, which brings free entertainment to campus for students and faculty throughout the year, is not based on the number of people involved, Mayer said, but on the quality of the
