Moe’s Money, Mo’ Options Off-campus businesses accept alternate forms of cash for purchases Natalie Pita

If campus food hasn’t been cutting ing it for you, you’re in luck.

Four new businesses are now accepting ccepting Carolina Cash, making a total of 15 venues that accept cash loaded onto a CarolinaCard.

The first businesses began accepting epting Carolina Cash last year after students advocated for several years to integrate the on-campus payment method into the local economy.

“Carolina Cash of f-campus us has been a st udent government initiative for almost st eight years, so it’s been under almost every student body dy president to try and get this off the ground,” Studentt Body President Lindsay Richardson,said. “It’s been kind nd of a long process, but it reflects how most things [are] when you’re trying to get the university on board after a long process.”

Student government has worked closely with the associate vice president of business usiness affairs to make this off-campus expansion a reality. ty.

As the fi rst venues began n accepting Carolina Cash, more businesses reached out to the university in the hopes of participating.

“Why I think it might bee hard for businesses to jump on board right away is because, cause, like any investment in any interest or tune-in market, arket, there is a risk involved, and I think as we add [businesses] sinesses] that risk seems less and less to all t hese ese ot her new partners,” Richardson said. id.

“I think it’s good for businesses because our students do drivee a lot of the economy in Columbia. So just being ing a part of that and having it into that marketplace lace is not only good to build a relationship with all the students who come in and out and all the businesses nesses of our university, but also this overall enhances their eir business as well,” Richardson said.

Deputy Coroner resigns after DUI charge

High schooler arrested over assignment

Overheated coffee pot causes mall fire

Lexington County is looking for a new deputy coroner.

Barr y Wright, who previously had held the position, was taken into custody Tuesday after he was found asleep in his running car as it was stationary in the middle of an intersection, The State reported.

According to a West Columbia Police Department report, Wright was found slumped over his steering wheel with a 24-ounce beer can in his center cup holder. When asked to exit the vehicle, Wright opened a can of tobacco and began chewing. He said the smell of alcohol was coming from the can, and that he had consumed alcohol four hours ago but “had a dip in the entire time.” He told officers the cans in his car were “from a death scene yesterday” and didn’t need to be thrown out. Both cans were cold to the touch.

Officers took Wright into custody, where he posted bail. His resignation was submitted and accepted later Wednesday, according to Lexington County Coroner Earl Wells.

Summerville High School student Alex Stone was arrested Tuesday morning for killing an imaginary pet dinosaur in a class assignment, WWBT reported.

For the assignment, students were asked to write a few sentences about themselves as if they were writing a Facebook post. In his assignment, Stone included the phrases, “gun” and “taking care of business” in his fictional story about killing an imaginary pet dinosaur belonging to his neighbor.

Stone’s teacher notified school officials after reading the assignment and contacted the police.

Officers searched Stone’s bookbag and locker for a gun but found nothing. When confronted by officers, Stone became disruptive and was detained for disrupting the school. Stone said that what he wrote was intended as a joke.

According to his mother, Stone has been suspended for the rest of the week. He has also been charged with disorderly conduct.

An overheated coffee pot is to blame for a fire that broke out at a Columbia Strip Mall late Tuesday Night, the State reported.

According to Brick Lewis of the Columbia Fire Department spokesman, Columbia firefighters arrived on the scene around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday night and determined that a coffee pot exploded after being left on for too long.

Witnesses were alarmed after they saw black smoke coming from the barbershop in which the fire originated, though they were unable to see any actual flames from the outside.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze without too much trouble, aided by the fact that it was localized in the barbershop itself and not spread throughout the other businesses.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

An early estimate puts damages at around $50,000.

— During a patrol of Assembly and Greene streets, a police off icer saw a man st umbling down the road. After walking i n circles, t he ma n stopped and faced the bushes directly beside the sidewalk. When the officer asked for an ID, the man repeatedly gave him a credit card.

The man’s shirt was buttoned incorrectly, and the officer noted that he smelled of alcohol. He was placed under arrest for public disorderly conduct.

— A police officer was called to Columbia Hall in response to a combative male, who was supposedly tr ying to initiate a fight on the 11th f loor. The resident mentor reported that the male followed a woman into her room and refused to leave.

When the police officer asked for and was shown the man’s ID, he noticed another ID in the wallet as well. The man was not complying with the officer a nd sa id he t hought he was in his room. He was arrested and taken to A lvin S. Glenn Detention Center and issued citations for minor in possession and possession of altered driver’s license.

— A n of f icer was d r iv i ng down Blossom Street on Aug. 12, when he noticed a woman begin running immediately upon seeing the car. When he approached her, she said that she was OK, but was afraid of the dark. She also told the officer that she had one drink at Pavlov’s Bar in Five Points.

When he asked for her ID, she handed him a New Jersey driver’s license. He saw a Florida driver’s license where the New Jersey ID was, so he asked for that at well.

When she gave him the second driver’s license he noticed, a South Carolina driver’s license.

She wa s g iven c it at ion s for possession of another’s driver’s license and minor in possession.

The officer reported that she did not seem heavily intoxicated, and was compliant with all demands.

New cafe set to open in business building Global Cafe will open with international theme, chefs Natalie Pita

USC a l r e ad y h a s t he nu mb er one ranked international business school for both undergraduates and g raduates, a nd t he Darla Moore School of Business will now have food to fuel those rankings.

“We (Sodexo) are being encouraged and we are challenging ourselves to look at that operation and really showcase our culinary staff to bring i nt er n at ion a l f o o d , f l a vor s a nd ethnicities to Columbia,” said Dave Sauers, District Manager of Sodexo.

“We’re probably going to be talking about blending what we grow and what we purchase, using other cuisines from around the world.”

The Global Café will be the newest addition to campus. Sauers said it is “specially, conveniently located” in the new business school building and will be opening at an indefinite time early this semester.

The restaurant will feature a “global chef scholar in-residence program,” which will bring international Sodexo chefs to Columbia. These global culinary experts will stay for periods ranging from a month and a half to a semester at a time.

“We’re friends of USC and we like our customers.”

In addition to giving students more options, the ability to use Carolina Cash off-campus also encourages students to interact with businesses in the community.

“I t hink it’s benef icial st udents because while you’re at the university, you’re also part of the Carolina and Columbia community,” Richardson said. “There’s a lot of business, people, leaders that are involved in that, and

“That will help us learn some skills that we may not have and learn some techniques that we may not k now and also bring the real international value of the Sodexo organization to the business school,” Sauers said. “The thought process is health-focused, environmentally sustainably-focused, and as much international mix in the menu as customers really want.”

But even Sauers is not completely sure how to pin down exactly what Global Café will be. Sodexo, Sauers said, wants to be very f lexible with this new endeavor, and is looking for clients to get involved and make it their own.

“It’s a work in progress,” he said.

“Once we get in and start operating we’re going to hear a lot from our customers in the building, and they’re going to help us decide what we’re going to become.”

But if you’re worried about trying foreign foods, the Global Café still has you covered. They’ll still offer the basics, like a grilled cheese sandwich or a turkey wrap, but they’ll also be serving some dishes that you can’t get anywhere else on campus.

The idea to open a new, more ambitious dining option originated from Sauers’ conversations with the employees themselves. They wanted a new option that would seek to mirror the excellence of USC’s academics with great food.

“It’s coming from people at the university who share with me what their hopes and dreams are, and then on the Sodexo side, it’s what do we think we can do to complement that,” Sauers said. “It probably originates or germinates from those folks at the university who really want to be recognized for excellence.”

It is unclear exactly when Sodexo will open the new site, but according to Sauers, the kitchen is currently expected to be completed some time in September.

“I think everyone wants it to be ready as soon as it can be ready, and I think the beginning of the school year would be the perfect time, but I don’t think it will be quite that quick,” Sauers said.

It is unclear exactly what hours the Global Café will be open for. Although Sodexo is current ly look ing into holding all three meals at the kitchen, according to Sauers, only breakfast is currently guaranteed; meal plans

and Carolina Cash will be accepted as payment.

Even though students might have to wait awhile for the Global Café, Sauers thinks it will be well worth the anticipation, especially with the chef scholars in-residence and the stark differences between the new eatery and all other options on campus.

“The fact that we really do have a new and state-of-the-art kitchen, where in so many of the other facilities which are so much more outdated,” he said, “we’ve got the capacity to do more and different things than we have in a number of the other facilities on campus.”

As for Moe’s, McCartha said it’s a good move for business, that will benefit students, as well. “[Students] have always been a fan of our food, and now it’s just easier,” McCartha said. “Now you can get your parents to pay for your Moe’s instead of digging through your couch cushions.

Icona Pop is part of a national tour, the Campus Consciousness Tour, so they’re bringing an opener, lights and production essentials. Daytime entertainment before the concert will focus on being eco-friendly.

The all-inclusive package lowers the price for the university significantly.

Recent CP concert guest Chris Young cost the organization $40,000, before opener and production costs, Mayer said.

Icona Pop will give their show in the Colonial Life A rena, the first CP concert to use this venue since Kanye West came to the university.

CP is making the switch because the Colonial Life Arena is a newer building that is more familiar to students. “ I t h i n k i t ’s p e r f e c t f o r t h a t entertainment venue,” Mayer said.

“A lot of big name artists that come here to Columbia without CP come to the Colonial Life Arena, and I think students just enjoy the atmosphere and just being in that area.”

USC president Harris Pastides will receive a $108,800 bonus if the USC Foundations approves the Board of Trustees’ recommendation.

The increase comes as Pastides enters h is sevent h year w it h t he university, making him the fourth longest serving university president in the Southeastern Conference.

T he bonus w i l l be pa id for completely in private funds, and his state-funded salary of $282,000 will remain the same. He will also receive an additional $100,000 if he is still employed by the university on July 1, 2015, and another $100,000 ifs he is still president of USC on July 1, 2016.

According to Communications and Marketing Director Wes Hickman, the Board of Trustees “put a lot of thought” into their recommendation, and Gene Warr, chairman of t he board, said in a press release that hiring Pastides was “one of the best decisions this board has ever made.”

“They don’t cost much, but students love them,” Mayer said.

In October, CP will host a 24-hour Harry Potter movie marathon event in the Russell House Theatre and ballroom.

“We’ve come up k now ing Harr y Potter. We grew up with Harry Potter, and it ended with the last movie. And so we’re like, ‘what better way than to [watch the movies] than to just start through and do all eight total?’” Mayer said.

CP will still offer their traditional events. They will be continuing Jingle Jam this year with Street Corner Sy mphony, wh ich is a n acapel la singing group that finished second behind Committed in NBC acapella

show The Sing-Off. They will also keep t heir Talent Per for ma nces: student performances such as Acoustic Café, Comedy Open Mic Night and Poetry Nights and competitions like Got Talent and Poetry Slam.

And in October, CP will have the firstever Foreign Film Friday and show both a Spanish movie and a Danish movie in the Russell House Theatre.

“We had a student come up to us—an international student—and say, ‘All of these movies are in English, but are there any movies for international students?’” Mayer said.

When Mayer and his team realized there weren’t any, they decided a few foreign fi lms would be good addition to the lineup.

These two movies were selected after research on popular international films, and they will continue showing internat ional f ilms in t he f ut ure depending on the turnout of these. “ La st seme ster we t a l ked about revamping CP and doing new things,” he said. “I hope the student body agrees with us.”

While talk of multi-thousand dollar raises may seem ridiculous to some in a st ill-recovering economy, there are quantifiable and, in our opinion, just if ied reasons for this development.

First, a nd perhaps most importantly, all of the money gathered to make up the raise comes from various foundations, not st udent fee s. T he f u nds

themselves are gathered from various foundations and, at the request of the Board of Trustees, have been sent Pastides’ way.

Second, the simple fact is that Pastides is a president worth investing in. Since his start in 2008, he not only brought USC through the brunt of the financial

Last year, he conferred with SC lawmakers to keep tuition prices at a stable level in an attempt to keep college affordable. While the state government failed to meet him at his word, his attempt shows that he has the interests of

the students at heart.

And then there are the much improved GPA and SAT levels of incom ing f resh men, a n unprecedented raise in private donat ions a nd ot her not able achievements.

Th ird, a c u rsor y gla nce at any data concerning how much public university presidents are paid will reveal that Pastides isn’t receiving nearly as much as his fellow university leaders around the country. His $503,800 annual fee makes him the 47th best-paid public university presidents (out of 60) in the nation.

Compare this sum to, say, the $4 million rolling in annually for USC’s head football coach Steve Spurrier.

For a president as economically capable and in-touch with student concerns as Past ides , USC is getting a bargain other schools would jump at the chance to get.

And considering his long tenure (he is the fourth longest serving president in the SEC), we feel that if anyone deserves a raise for years of consistent high-quality service, Pastides does.

Some remember the days of that first dose fondly: a surging economy, a distinctive lack of U.S. boots on the ground and a pre s ident who e ver y b o d y, Republican or Democrat, seemed to l i ke — or at least tolerate.

(Remember, Clinton was once quoted as saying that they were “Eisen hower Republ ica ns” running against “Regan Republicans.”)

To me, those days call up words a nd ph rases l ike Marc R ich, Whitewater, untraceable foreign money and Juanita Broaddrick.

Let’s forget those disgraces among many, for the present. Let’s forget the disgusting conduct of the then-president in regards to women, treating them as “dolls” to be used and thrown out onto the curb after he was done with them.

Let’s forget his bombing of the al-Shifa pharmaceutical factory, effectively killing uncountable thousands of Sudanese citizens who depended on that medicine to continue living.

Let it all go, because now his wife, who during the those fabled years was pract ically co-Vice President alongside Al Gore, is running for the top spot herself.

Since then she has done her time, withstood the slings and arrows that came with supporting t he I r aq Wa r at t he out s e t

and overcame t he impossible trouncing Obama gave her in 2008 primaries. She has weathered the most covered public infidelity in history with the appearance of grace and temperance turned exasperation.

Surely, it is her turn.

But what, exactly, could that mea n when she is st apled to someone as monomaniacal and well known as Bill Clinton?

It is hard to say.

What I believe is t hat come 2016, for the first time in American history, the U.S. will have the option to vote for t hree people on a single ticket, Benjamin t w o p r e s i d e n t s Crawford and a whippingSecond-year boy, a two-headed English and duumvirate forged Russian student in the 1960’s with one simple goal: to become the head of the most powerful nation on earth for a combined 16 years.

Hear me out: t he horde of Clinton-loyal underlings, kept in t heir off ice cages work ing slavishly for readmission to the Big House these past 20 years, will be let loose to take control of their old menial posts.

For so long, the word of Bill, the preeminent political guru, was immutable law and it seems to me highly unlikely that this almost Pavlovian tick to follow his line will suddenly flit off into thin air once his wife assumes the throne.

on a l l is s ue s w i l l be ju st a s weighty as his wife’s, both to her administration and to the public.

Because the couple’s political stakes are entangled with one another, each will support the policies of t he ot her w it hout question.

Do you think, in a new Clinton W hite House, that Hillary, in t he com mencement of her duties, will be able to ignore her husband’s council on matters of extreme national importance? As executive, her job is to act as her best judgment tells her, sometimes acting in spite of the mutterings of her advisors and spouse.

Additionally, any infighting, perceived or real, will turn up a rash of Clinton-relationship media; a time-tested method to sell print copy, and an outcome that they will do anything to avoid. The two heads will speak with a single voice, masculine and feminine, one old and one new, to determine the future of the nation.

So where will her prospective administration’s policies truly originate, the elected commanderin-chief or her spouse? Or both?

Nobody can say for sure.

But if what allegedly happened to the now-forgotten Broadderick is any indication, Bill Clinton seems to be the kind of man who gets what he wants, elected or not.

Israel too heavily favored by US Supplying weapons, cash in face of humanitarian tragedy In a sudden turn that surprised no one, another Israeli-Palestinian ceasefi re fell through earlier this week, leading to renewed attacks by both sides.

If you follow the news in the U.S. you’ve almost certainly already heard about the rockets fired by Hamas from the Gaza strip into Israeli hospitals, the suicide bombers targeting Israeli civilians and about the slew of Israeli soldiers killed defending their country from hostile attacks.

W hat you probably haven’t heard as much about are the Israeli airstrikes against densely populated Palestinian neighborhoods, Israeli soldiers gunning down fleeing civilians in the streets of Gaza or the walls Israel has erected around the Gaza Strip with the express intention of trapping more than a million Palestinians in an area smaller than New York City.

The people of Gaza are packed in like sardines in a barrel.

All too often, the U.S. news media paints Israel as the innocent victim of unprovoked terrorist attacks. It’s a tradition as old as the modern state of Israel, which you may remember from your American textbooks as entirely peaceful process on behalf of the Israeli government up until they were attacked by their neighbors, Ross but which in realit y involved an Abbott especially bellicose form of Zionism Third-year and the expulsion of almost a million history student Islamic Palestinians from their homeland, among other grievances.

U.S. media coverage slanted in favor of Israel is to the proverbial chicken as D.C.’s unwavering support of Israel is to the proverbial egg, we may never be able to determine which came first and caused the other.

However, such a d ist i nct ion is ent i rely unnecessary as the results are the same; the U.S. has poured massive amounts of resources into Israel.

With more than $100 billion in military aide in his pocket (courtesy of his Uncle Sam), David has swapped his historical sling for an assortment of American made war machines. For the first time in thousands of years, David is the heavy favorite over a Goliath still sporting second hand Soviet equipment.

For quantitative evidence of the disparity in military capability just look at the casualties suffered by both sides. The Palestinian Health Ministry reports that more than 2,000 Palestinians have been killed in the conf lict, with Israel reporting that it has killed hundreds of militants (implying that the remainder of thousand or more casualties were civilians.) Israel, by its own numbers, has lost 62 soldiers and a whopping three civilians.

If the U.S. wants to be the neutral party that can broker a lasting ceasefire, we as a nation must first remove the white-and-blue washing lens from the majority of U.S. media and accept that both sides are simultaneously victims and perpetrators. Then we can break the cycle of unconditional support for the Israel (which Israel no longer actually needs) and be the neutral judge of peace that both sides will find acceptable.

Riots in Ferguson result of long tensions, police brutality Police disarmament, dialogue can bring peace The U.S. is steeped in a history of diversity and confl ict. We love to tell ourselves that we have a national epic of coming together to resolve our differences and become stronger for it.

In a glorious moment a few years ago, with the election of an African-American to the White House, the world was convinced that the work of repairing that broken fabric of the collective American spirit was beginning to be sewn together.

On August 9th, that momentum disappeared.

T he event s u n f u rl i ng i n Ferguson are symptoms of an ill system, not a n accidental flash point in an encounter gone wrong.

The tide of A merican racial politics seems to swing from one “riot” to the next, the last major one being the 1980 McDuffie riots in Miami. As we are seeing again, the politics of the U.S. are defined by the politics of race, shown every day in statistics of racial advantage and disadvantage — so much so that these ideas become our national identity and landscape.

What do you see when you look in the mirror every morning?

Do you see a human being? A woman? A t ransgender black woman? The fewer identifiers you have to qualify yourself with, the more privilege you have.

W hen you are not forced to confront your own identity, you do not have to think that perhaps you don’t belong in a societ y that only portrays older white males as the heroes. This is the politics of race: when your rights are defi ned and delineated by the socially constructed groups to which you are assigned.

There is a large community of Americans who wish to believe that the ideas of race have nothing to do with what is going on in Ferguson, or with our national politics in general, but beyond the impenetrable veil of white,

suburban, Republican American exceptionalism, there is a world that understands that the politics of race in the U.S. is powerful, pervasive and dangerous.

This world includes Palestinians,tweeting Americans t ips about how to t reat tea r gas victims , and the A mnest y International observers who were deployed for the first time on American soil.

We are used to seeing t his kind of sectarian violence in the war-torn ravages of the Middle East, but not in our own home.

This proximity is causing us to v iew our ow n problems w it h muted distaste, but if this were happening elsewhere we would be invading the country and taking over the local government.

T he ent i re poi nt of t he Ferguson protests began as a vigil — a peaceful way to remember a life lost in a senseless murder.

These protesters did not incite violence, because that would be a slight to the memory of the “gentle giant” spirit of Michael Brown.

However, the politics of race took over in Missouri.

Like New York w it h stopa nd-f r i sk , or Ne w O rle a n s , or M ia m i i n t he 198 0 s, t he almost-completely White police force saw a group of AfricanA mericans gathering together a nd saw a t h reat. I nstead of engaging with the community they are sworn to protect, they fired weapons of war into the crowd. These military-armed — but not trained—police showered the crowd not with protection and security, but with tear gas and rubber bullets.

T here is no ev idence t hat suggests that these crowds have done anything to deser ve the violence incited against them.

There comes a point in events like Ferguson where the lines become very clearly drawn. With t he image of t he man in t he American Flag T-shirt hurling a tear gas canister back over the front line of police riot shields, we began to see these markings.

This weekend, the lines became

even clearer, as a Holocaust survivor was arrested and the Ku Klux Klan rejoiced that the police were doing the infamous hate group’s bidding.

We bicker back and forth about what the causes of the situation are, but t he facts remain t he same. There are innocent people being harassed and k illed by the police, who are claiming no responsibilit y for actions that foreign observers are likening to all-out war. So what can be done?

First of all, the police do not need to be armed as though they are preparing to invade Fallujah.

The Taliban is not awaiting the Ferguson Police Department, but rather a group of unarmed civilians.

Th is dif ference bet ween m i l it a r y a nd p ol ic e i s b e s t exemplified in South Carolina, where it takes t wice as many hours of t raining to become a l icensed beaut icia n t ha n a licensed police officer.

Place s l i ke Ferg u son a lso a re faced w it h g ross misrepresentation. Ferguson is a 67 percent African-American town with a 94 percent White police force and a school board with only one non-white member, a Hispanic . Voter registration ef forts in Ferg uson (w it h 12 percent voter participation in the last election) are being ridiculed by members of the Republican Part y, including the Missouri GOP executive director, who claimed that such efforts were “d i s g u s t i n g ” a n d “ f a n n i n g t he pol it ica l f la mes.” These communities need adequate and proportionate representation.

In the end, this will come down to image. At present, we are a nation embroiled in war at home and abroad. This means we are presented with a chance to solve these confl icts, but that work is both dangerous and painful.

I f we wa nt to solve t he underlying problems of Ferguson, we must be willing to begin that dialogue.

Legal weed coming, be ready Latent dangers in general use must be confronted now, before death, addiction toll mounts The New York Times editorial board made a huge stink earlier in the year coming out in support of “follow[ing] the growing movement in the states and repeal[ing] the ban on marijuana for both medical and recreational use.”

They devoted day after day of coverage to the subject, talking about health-related issues, incarceration rates, the effects of legalizing it on the marketplace, public opinion: just about everything you can think of.

The g roa n-wor t hy na me for t he whole editorial series “High Time” slightly undermines the seriousness of the whole enterprise. They’re obviously having fun doing something so “out there,” even for somewhere as blue as the Times.

(And this, more than 50 years after Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail! Maybe in the next fifty years, they’ll catch up to Matt Taibbi, but, hey, let’s not get too silly.)

All of that aside, the articles are mostly sober and correct on the big stuff.

While I won’t parrot it word for word, t he general idea is basically that the 20th century Benjamin alcohol prohibition and current Crawford marijuana laws have the same Second-year social and economic effects, and English and that legalizing it will have similar Russian student upsides and downsides as ending prohibition did.

I don’t have any moral stance against the drug except that it stinks up whatever it touches something awful. If the state government ever gets around to legalizing sometime in the next fifty years, make sure to email your congressman: dopers must shower after use.

Otherwise, I can’t see too much wrong with the whole deal, except for two potentially troubling issues.

The first is how it affects drivers. W hile “drugged driving” is sort of a strange phrase (getting drugged as opposed to getting drunk,) that is what is going to kill the most people when states finally get around to making weed widely available.

Especially with young people. There are going to be a lot of kids, who, overconfident and ecstatic that they can do it out in the open, who will jump in Mom or Pop’s car and speed right into a tree.

If t he rest of t he count r y starts to take Colorado’s lead and decriminalizes the practice, this is the area where the nation-wide media campaigns should focus. Deaths like this are preventable to some extent, and the best way to save lives in the future is impressing on people now that getting high and driving a two-ton mass of metal, plastic and gasoline isn’t the safest way you could be spending your time.

Addiction is the second big misgiving I have about the legalization movement. Even though the Times acknowledges that weed’s addictive capacity is “present” but “low,” it makes sure to emphasize its effect on minors.

I’ve been through the South Carolina school system from elementary school to college and many people I knew who started smoking weed in the eighth grade haven’t stopped since. While some have been able to moderate and even wean themselves off the drug entirely, others have become dependent. And by dependent, I mean they can’t go two hours without getting either the shakes or the sweats.

But the choice between addiction and freedom from addiction is the same whether or not kids have access to one more new drug.

Cigarettes and alcohol, perfectly legal drugs for those of age, are already more or less available to minors. Weed is so prevalent in schools and public spaces, that the choice minors face today is less: “How can I get it?” than “should I use it?”

W hen it f inally becomes legal, that will continue to be the choice kids must face.

Eric Mina brought his hypnotism act to USC Wednesday night to kick off Carolina Productions’ events calendar, successfully hypnotizing a stage full of students.

There’s nothing quite like seeing 20 USC students go limp right before your eyes. They weren’t gassed, or hurt — all hypnotist Eric Mina had to do was say “sleep,” and they were out.

It’s uncanny what the influence of a hypnotist can do. During his CP-produced hypnotism show Wednesday night, Mina had various students playing mock instruments with their feet, cowering together to escape imaginary cold and making one student insist his name was Tinker Bell.

No matter how amazing his feats of mental control may be, Mina insists it’s nothing trickier than knowledge of the human mind. He sat down with The Daily Gamecock to discuss getting his start, what makes someone easy to hypnotize and what happens when a hypnotism show goes wrong.

The Daily Gamecock: So I understand that you are a comedian hypnotist — how do comedy and hypnotism fit together in your view?

Eric Mina: Well, depending on how you do it — I mean, have you ever seen a comedy show? Or a hypnosis show?

DG: It’s been a while.

EM: Yeah, they always try to add some bit of comedy in there, or at least the good ones, I feel like. Back in the day, they used to do it like “Oh, look what we can make these people do,” but now I just thought it would be better doing the comedy aspect. But the reason why I depict myself as a comedy hypnotist is because a lot of hypnotists are generally pretty boring in the beginning before they get the people on stage, and I like to put a bit of comedy in the beginning part while getting them up on stage, making the whole show good instead of just the part while people are on.

DG: Yeah, that makes sense. How did you get started in hypnotism?

EM: I actually saw a guy do it. I was doing magic beforehand, and the magician that inspired me said to me, “Hey, I think you’d make a really good hypnotist, given your psychology background.” And I was like, “But I just learned a whole bunch of magic.” And then I actually saw one and I was really intrigued by it. I just thought it was phenomenal and I figured that I could help more people, because I was supposed to be a social worker to begin with. Hypnosis just seemed like that great path to help people more, and then doing it on a stage just seemed like the ability to inspire more.

DG: Right. How long have you been doing magic?

EM: About a year before I started doing hypnosis.

DG: And would you say that magic has tied into your hypnosis? Do you think they’re similar?

EM: For the college market, yeah. It’s a great way to get kids to come to the show, usually. In the college market you do a little teaser beforehand, I don’t know if you’ve ever seen one. It’s fun to do stuff at a meet and greet or afterwards, and I just always enjoyed tricking the mind or inspiring. One way or another, things with the mind.

DG: How has your education at Penn State in psychology influenced your hypnotism — the way you interact with your audience for hypnotizing? What did you learn from your psychology degree?

EM: Oh, sadly I felt that I learned more about how the brain works by functions in my hypnosis training than I did in my schooling in psychology. Where psychology teaches you more about theories and development, but unless you get into very specific fields inside of psychology and get specialized, it doesn’t get into how it functions and why it does things the way it does. And I didn’t want to look at it from a chemical aspect, physiologically speaking. But this is how it functions on a daily basis; that’s what I enjoy, the psychological subtleties.

DG: How are college crowds different from other crowds?

EM: They’re more fun. They’re a lot more vibrant, very diverse in the type of people that are generally in the crowd. The diversity that happens in other crowds usually is just age and then you have wherever the area is. But in college crowds, everybody is here with the idea to learn, but it doesn’t matter race, religion, this or that. So you get such a diverse amount of people, but they’re always excited. I love the energy of a college crowd.

DG: What makes someone easy to hypnotize?

EM: Well, there’s actually a couple of things — one, military are actually able to get hypnotized more because they have to follow orders. High school students and college students, also, and the reason why is because they have more of an open mind, and the ability to let things happen, versus when we get older, our mind starts to close down a little bit and we stay with those little things we have learned and don’t like to open up to new ideas ... I think it’s the willingness to learn and to be open to new ideas, that’s the difference.

DG: What would you say to someone who is skeptical to hypnotism, or that doesn’t believe it really works?

EM: Well, in what way? Like, “It wouldn’t work on me”? Well, I would say that they’re right, because all hypnosis is, actually is self-hypnosis. I don’t like to proclaim any special power that most hypnotists do. They proclaim like, “Oh, I’m a great hypnotist and I’m going to hypnotize you,” but that’s not the truth. I’m just a guide — you hypnotize yourself and you don’t even know it. That fuzzy time when you’re driving and you don’t remember how you got home? That’s hypnosis. The most powerful suggestion in the world is self-suggestion. There’s nothing else that matters. What you believe is going to trump everything else that’s out there. That’s why I like to tell the truth in my show, I’d rather tell the truth and just inspire people

to use their brains better. That’s another reason why I like the college market so much — because they’re so open-minded and because I feel like I can make a little bit of a difference to help them open up their minds.

DG: So, you think there is an educational aspect to it?

EM: Huge. I always have those few kids that come up to me and say, “How could this help me, can this give me a better memory?” Yeah, it can. It did for me. I lost 50 pounds from hypnotizing myself ... But yeah, just those kinds of things. Sports — I learned golf for the first time, I went back a week later and the guy was impressed on how much I learned right away. And he’s like, “How did you do that?” and I told him, “I’m a hypnotist, I practice in my mind.” It’s just being able to give kids that information to go out and learn something new, I think that will help in any way.

DG: What would your advice be to someone who wants to get started as a hypnotist or a magician?

EM: Well, they’re very different. If you want to become a hypnotist, I would suggest to go get a certification in hypnotherapy. I went to the National Guild of Hypnotists, and they have little pods of teachers that will do it for different prices, depending on where it is. There are schools that you can go to, and certain colleges actually offer it. I wouldn’t just read a book and assume you know what you’re doing, because you might be doing more damage than you realize. Now magic, that you can pick up a book or a video. I think with anything, once the student is ready, a teacher will come out of the woodwork. That’s what happened to me.

DG: Right, who inspired you?

EM: My whole life I enjoyed Houdini. That was probably my major one. When I was younger and seeing people like Lance Burden when I was in Vegas or whatever, but hypnosis-wise I was a little bit interested when I was younger, but just I didn’t understand it then ... but definitely Houdini, his crowd presence and just what he could do ...

DG: So you think showmanship is ...

EM: Showmanship is where it’s at. I don’t care about anything else, I’ve seen amazing magicians that have no showmanship and they won’t get off the street, and then I see mediocre magicians have TV spots. It’s just how it works, because that’s the difference, people don’t realize that it’s not about the trick, it’s about this interaction I’m having with you and me.

DG: Did you have a background in performing or comedy before you started your magic?

EM: No! — laughs — No, not at all actually. I come from a family of nurses and salesmen. Doctors, nurses, medical field and salesmen. That’s it. So I had the sales, and I think that’s where the interaction I learned from ... I had one uncle that was President of Zurich Insurance company branch for a little while, and my dad, who was like a nuclear medical tech. It’s just very, very vast, and no performers, so lil’ ol’ me out of nowhere. I dunno, I was either the black sheep or the shining star, I don’t know they look at me some days. — laughs — I think now that I’m doing good it’s a little better. God help me on that comment, alright, going to be getting “what did you say?!?” My uncle’s going to read it...

DG: What is the most unexpected thing that happened at one of your shows?

EM: Somebody had an asthma attack, and I had the show going on, and it was right at the end — thankfully, the way it worked out, it was right at the end that he had an asthma attack, and he was one of those people that refused to bring an inhaler with him, and he just denied that he had this problem, so we had to get him off, and they called the emergency crew in there, paramedics and everything, but luckily I was there and able to get him to calm down ... sorry, once they got there he was pretty much fine, but, y’know, understanding breathing techniques and being able to calm him down, calm his lungs down and his mind is actually pretty powerful.

DG: So you could actually help.

EM: Yeah, it was scary, yet, like, it’s that moment that you become a lifeguard, and then something actually happens and you don’t know if you’ll be able to do it or use it or not, and that was like the first time anything big happened to me and I was able to use these skills that I learned in a very immediate, necessary emergency way, and it worked out. I was scared yet happy I was able to help, if that makes sense.

“Lighght” (pronounced “light”) opens with “Debut — Impromptu,” which goes from a series of energetic violin strums to an orchestral harmony and back in thirty seconds. The opener, despite being dense and beautiful, is almost casually thrown out — the album has beauty to spare.

Kishi Bashi is no stranger to elaborate avant-pop music, being a founding member of Jupiter One and violinist for of Montreal.

With “Lighght,” his second solo album, he has combined his considerable technical musical skill with an experimental playfulness that’s irresistible.

The first full song “Philosophize In It! Chemicalize In It!” exemplifies this playfulness, featuring a bubblegum tune and soaring vocals from Bashi. It’s a busy song, with plinking violin and cello and energetic drums throughout, but thanks to Bashi’s keen eye for composition it never becomes muddled or anything less than infectiously catchy.

Which isn’t to say that the album lacks seriousness — it’s just baked into the dreamy wonder that permeates the album.

“Bittersweet Genesis for Him AND Her” is an album highlight, a lyrical triumph that focuses on the mythic, destructive nature of love. It opens with loopy joyfulness — “In the beginning we were scrambled together / Mixed in a celestial bowl and hand fluffed with a feather” — and ends in melancholy dislocation — “We ignored the pleas of the forest and the seas / As we scorched the earth with our tears.”

The fancifully spiritual sweep of the album means that even at its lightest and poppiest, the album never feels disposable. It’s art-pop that anyone who loves the lighter side of music will enjoy.

Tune-yards frontwoman Merrill Garbus is a woman of many voices. She can belt out a powerful rant, she can harmonize in soprano and she can make a series of whoops and calls, but what makes Garbus unique is that she does all of these at once on a single song.

This year’s new Tune-yards album “Nikki Nack” retains their signature layered sound, with Garbus’s nimble voice serving as just one of many instruments coming together in carefully arranged loops and bursts. The overall effect is busy, danceable and undeniably alive — most songs come to a powerful crescendo where the elaborate structure bends towards chaos, which is where Garbus is in her strident element.

“Nikki Nack” is as fiery and vital as the two previous, and doubles down on the artist’s recurring themes of the damage caused by our social systems.

That is to say, Garbus makes music with a message, but like good poetry, the message never overwhelms. On bona fide banger “Real Thing,” she bellows “I come from the land of slaves / Let’s go Redskins / Let’s go Braves,” drawing on accumulated American hypocrisy for energy. Her passion both drives the album and gives it thematic depth. As always, Garbus refuses to play the victim — the song “Stop That Man” is a paean to urban vigilantism, a cathartic burst of commanding protest.

Tune-yards have been accused of cultural appropriation due to their use of African rhythms and adoption of minority viewpoints, but that’s a reductive response to a promising songwriting style. Garbus is quite open about her transnational inspirations, and her influences lend the album a soulful, stick-to-your-ribs appeal.

“Nikki Nack” has more teeth than the typical pop album, but Garbus’s rhythmic arrangements are so skilled and deeply satisfying that it should go down easy.

The ‘60s have inspired a wide array of modern music, but sometimes there comes a band that goes straight to the source.

Temples is an English rock group that plays like an exceptionally polished echo of ‘60s garage and psych rock, and that’s not a bad thing.

The band’s debut album “Sun Structures” uses the trippy, grungy, experimental trappings of their inspirational decade for seasoning instead of as the main course, which makes for a more uniform sound at the cost of uniqueness. However, what Temples lack in uniqueness they make up for in catchiness and quality — “Sun Structures” is eminently listenable, with almost every song playing like a long-lost radio single.

Actual lead single “Shelter Song” is a particularly tasty serving of ‘60s stew. Lead singer James Edward Bagshaw’s sleepy, washed out crooning, the snare drums, and the cleanly simple guitar riffs all come together for a retro good time.

While Temples owes their musical tics to a vast host of ‘60s groups, an easy modern-day comparison point would be the Black Keys. Both bands have albums full of easy-listening rock, with simple and compelling tunes regardless of whether they’re being upbeat or downbeat. They’re not the most lyrically sophisticated bands in the room, but that’s not their selling point — they’re peddling catchy songs, and “Sun Structures” delivers on that in spades.

‘The Knick’ makes for moody period piece Cinemax series upends the medical procedural by setting it in 1900 Arthur Braswell

In 1900, surgery as a profession was dicey to say the least. Blood-soaked hands, inefficient instruments, and a tense group dynamic all combined to make operations perilous, a danger at the core of Cinemax’s dark new series The Knick.

In the series, Clive Owen plays Dr. John W. Thackery, a frenzied surgeon in the nascent era of his field. He is compulsively obsessed with his profession. Rather than portraying the fancy-living, fi nancially stable dream of many young, pre-med students, Owen’s character is fiendish, helplessly consumed by medicine as an art and a science. He is haunted and reclusive, in stark contrast to the charismatic ideals that make up many television doctors.

His passion for such a critical field as medicine does not reward but remains admirable. Stability and his life hardly intersect. In the opening scene of the show, he awakes from a shady opium den in some cellar of New York City.

Like A MC’s “Mad Men,” “The K nick” does not ignore the darker parts of American History. Someone as educated and constructive as Dr. Thackery is still blinded with racism and misogyny. The most interesting tension of the show is that the main character has the greatest potential for doing good in the world, yet he is the vilest individual on screen. The other characters are positive and committed, yet they have neither the daring, nor the expertise that Thackery has.

Despite t he dark surrou ndings and vices of the main character, the creators of “The Knick” sprinkle in plenty of promise amongst its gloom.

Thacker y, who is as eloquent and idealistic as he is tragic, declares “we live in a time of endless possibility.”

He vows to “not stop pushing forward into a hopeful future.” Owen creates excellent representations of manic characters and this figure combines b ot h rea son a nd m ad ne s s i n a n extraordinary way.

T he mela nc hol ia of t he show manifests itself through dark colors and stern attitudes but ultimately the vision of the characters is sublime. who was solely involved with the flagship university and another specifically for the university system as a whole; USC is one of the few universities that combines both roles into one.

As a result, USC funding manages to consolidate what normally might be two salaries into just one.

In total, Pastides’ role encompasses not just the research university, but also three comprehensive universities, four two-year campuses and an online program. “[Having one president] allows you to leverage the power of the system, so that you ensure that you’ve got some continuity, that you’ve got momentum across all of the various colleges,” Hickman said. “Having them both in one person gives us that opportunity to look at the needs of the state and respond to them in a quick and efficient major ...

Portraying surgery in this way shows that one of today’s most respected professions takes plenty of trial and error. The show hones in on the error and how it effects medical staff.

Unfortunately, Cinemax’s new show is not yet binge-watchable on a hazy, Netflix weekend, nor is it watchable on the six HBO affiliates provided to

on-campus residents. However, the fi rst episode is available on YouTube and it runs for about fifty-five minutes, so if you need a new-semester breather, queue it up and experience a darker time.

It’s quite a difficult position, but I think it benefits the people of South Carolina because it allows them to leverage those resources.”

Hickman believes it is important for students to understand Pastides’ increased bonus because it is a sign that they should want to learn more about him and his impactful initiatives on campus.

“Dr. Pastides is open to students.

He loves to engage with students. He has a student advisory committee. So that’s an important thing, for students to know who their president is,” Hickman said. “Those things that directly impact students are things that the board cited during their meeting. They’re very important to the board, and they’re very important to the president.”

Hopping on any bandwagon seems to get a bad rap nowadays. Maybe Miami Heat fans are to blame, or maybe those on the wagon no longer want to share the glor y with new arrivals. But what if someone gets on the bandwagon, climbs to the front and steers it to new heights?

Instead, the Welland, Ontario native gave her heart to a South Carolina program that was still getting started to make a name for itself.

“It was everything from [Associate Head Coach] Jamie (Smith) and [Head Coach] Shelley (Smith) to the players t hat were here and t he campus,” D’A ngelo said. “I fell in love with everything that South Carolina is.”

Before D’Angelo played her first m i nute i n a G amecock u n ifor m, she was busy representing her home country on the international level.

Out of the Gamecocks’ 10 four-star recruits from the class of 2014, six were from out of state. And of those six, five hail from Allen-Williams’ home state, Georgia.

Before sig n i ng w it h Sout h Carolina, Allen-Williams was able to stave off late pushes from Georgia and Clemson to acquire his services, which proved to set an example for the rest of his classmates.

Among the Gamecocks’ 20-man recruiting class, Clemson made the fi nal list of 10 players and Georgia was considered by six.

“It helps in just trying to make g uys feel comfortable and really just being truthful with the guys,” redshirt sophomore linebacker T.J. Holloman said. “I think that just attracts more people, hearing it from players instead of hearing it from coaches.”

With the opener against Texas A&M just a week away, recruiting season has died down and given way to the real game on the field. But that hasn’t stopped Allen-Williams from being his normal active self on Twitter, posting pictures of his new No. 4 jersey and tweeting out his daily Libra horoscope.

“I’ve been able to play against some of the best players in the world at those age groups, so being able to bring that experience back to South Carolina has definitely helped me.”

D’Angelo was immediately thrown into the fire as a freshman, but her youth was a non-factor.

She was the backbone to a Gamecock squad that marched all the way to its first-ever regular season conference title. Honors poured in for the breakout freshman, including SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, SEC Freshman of the Year, and SEC Goalkeeper of the Year.

“She’s been an impact player from the minute she came on the field for us as a freshman,” head coach Shelley Smith said. “She played like a senior as a freshman and has maintained that kind of level.”

After a humbling season in 2012 that saw the Gamecocks miss the NCAA Tournament for the fi rst time since 2006, D’Angelo was at the core of a record-breaking season in 2013. Personally, she earned her second SEC Defensive Player of the Year award as well as NSCAA First Team All-America honors.

However, D’Angelo will be the first to tell you that all of her awards should be looked upon as team accomplishments. Her intense desire to win and improve the performances of those in front of her has not been lost on her teammates.

“She’s a tremendous leader, especially on the field,” junior midfielder Raina Johnson said. “She picks up our team from all the way in the back. She’s extremely noticeable, telling you what you need to do, which is really helpful for the whole team.”

While professional soccer likely awaits D’Angelo upon her graduation, her sole focus is on her senior campaign, which gets underway Friday evening.

Shelley Smith, who has pioneered the South Carolina program to national recognition, expressed her appreciation for the integral role D’Angelo plays for the Gamecocks.

“Her steadiness and experience has really been key for us,” Smith said. “She’s meant a lot to the program, and someone that’s really going to be hard to replace.”

Murphy eyes national title

Senior Will Murphy and his team look to rebound from a difficult end to the NCAA championships last season.

Will Murphy has acquired a skill that is very important to achieve success in golf: a short memory.

Just a few months ago at the NCAA men’s golf championship, the then-junior was in a solid position to lead the Gamecocks to qualify for the match play portion of the championship.

Murphy played the best of any Gamecock over the course of three rounds, including the third round where he was four-under for the day with two holes remaining.

A chance at South Carolina finishing in the top eight for a match play spot was in sight, but those final two holes slipped away from him. He bogeyed and double-bogeyed the eighth and ninth holes respectively to fi nish at one-under for the day. The missteps put South Carolina in ninth place for the tournament at six-over par, narrowly missing the finals by one stroke.

For most golfers, shoot ing two-under for three rounds of a n NC A A C h a mpion sh ip i s remarkable. Yet, Murphy knew a chance at his team’s goal of a championship was at his grasp and even though he performed the best of any South Carolina player, missing out on the opportunity stung.

“When you get yourself in that position, it’s tough after what happened to see the positives,” he said. “It left a sour taste in my mouth and our team’s mouth.”

Teammates like fellow senior

Caleb Sturgeon did not really k now what to say to console him, figuring Murphy was tough enough to be able to handle it on his own.

“There wasn’t any t h ing to say,” Sturgeon said. “It’s just one of those hard feelings that comes with golf. You just got to look past it and move on, which he’s done just fine this summer.”

Head coach Bill McDonald and his staff made sure that each player knew it wasn’t any one player’s fault.

“We made sure to let them know we’re a team and we do everything as team,” assistant coach A lex Hamilton said. “Just because you may think you missed a put that cost us, it’s not you. We all played 54 holes and had plenty of chances the entire tournament.”

Murphy’s short memory kicked in quickly. He knew he couldn’t dwell on those two holes.

He spent a lot of time on his putting and his improvement in that area helped him win several amateur tournaments. He won the very next tournament he played in after NCAA’s, winning in a playoff at t he Su n neha n na A mateu r Tournament For Champions, one of the biggest amateur events in the country.

H a m i l t o n s a i d M u r p h y ’s consistency has improved more than anything coming into this season and that the coaching staff is looking at the senior to step into a leadership role.

Murphy helped move along sophomore Ben Dietrich’s game last year when Dietrich was a freshman, aiding with his scoring game. “ W hen I wa s a f re sh ma n,

I looked up to the seniors too,” Murphy said. “We’re all a big family so I help them out any way they want. It’s usually just through practicing and showing them how I do things when I practice.”

Murphy, along with Sturgeon a nd ju n ior M at t NeSm it h competed in t he USGA U.S. Amateur Championship this past week. It was the last tournament for each player before t he Gamecock golf season starts with The Carmel Cup in Pebble Beach, Calif. that runs August 29 through 31.

After coming close to the final stage last season at NCAA’s, the Gamecocks’ one goal is to win a national championship. Murphy said an NCA A title has always been the goal every year, but the team hasn’t always believed they could accomplish it. With a ninth place finish and showing they can hang with the top teams, the Gamecocks are starting to believe their dream can be a reality.

Since all of its core players are returning in Murphy, Sturgeon, NeSmith, Dietrich and junior Will Starke, South Carolina expects another championship appearance.

For this time around, Murphy seems to have overcome the pain of this past May pretty quickly and replaced it with the confidence to be a champion. That attitude may have rubbed off on his teammates, too.

“I think he’s got a good head on his shoulders,” Sturgeon said.

“I think NCAA’s hurt us all at the time, but looking back on it, we’ve all grown from it. It might have made us stronger.”

Judge rules in favor of O’Bannon, stating NCAA must allow athletes to be paid Earlier this month, in the form of a federal judge’s ruling, common sense prevailed in college athletics for the first time in a long time.

And while Ed O’Bannon’s in-court victory over the NCA A is not the first domino to fall in the direction of paying college athletes, it sure should make the rest of them go down quicker.

Since its inception in 1906, the governing body of college athletics has blocked student-athletes from profiting off of, or receiving compensation for the use of their likenesses. In the NCAA’s ludicrous pursuit of labeling college athletes amateurs in order to rake in billions of dollars without sharing a dime, students and programs have received sanctions for using university garden hoses, selecting the wrong condiment for their bagel and, more recently, decorating their cookie cakes improperly.

Those punishments have been the result of NCAA grasping at straws to maintain their chokehold over college athletics. But it looks like the jig may finally be up.

A lthough it’s just an initial ruling that I see changing over time, starting in 2016 student athletes may receive around $5,000 per year in the form of a trust fund, collectible af ter g raduat ion, on top of t heir scholarships.

Our beloved head ball coach seemed to agree with the ruling. “ Yo u c a n’t m a k e m i l l i o n s o f dollars on these athletes and they get Danny nothing,” Steve Spurrier said. “Wait Garrison a minute. That’s what we do, though, Sports Editor isn’t it?”

He’s not wrong. College athletics is the only arena on the planet in which people are banned from tapping into the fair market. And not only are players restricted from profiting off of themselves, the NCAA has been doing it in the form of jersey sales and formerly video games likenesses for years.

Looking through a lens of human rights and decency, there isn’t a very strong justification for what the NCAA does. Of course, there are parties that still support their practices.

Opponents of the ruling argue that paying players would detract from the true meaning of college football (i.e. school spirit and playing for the name on the front of the jersey rather than the name on the back.)

This issue would only arise in a free-for-all situation with no regulations on how players can profit. If athletes are left to their own devices and allowed to set up a booth on the corner and charge $100 for an autograph, then things could get dicey.

This takes us to the root of the issue now that a federal judge has recognized the injustice of the current system. Change won’t happen immediately, but the ruling will immediately shift the focus.

The debate is no longer whether or not college athletes should be paid, but rather how they should receive that compensation.

Fans flock to support men’s soccer

South Carolina men’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Phoenix in Tuesday’s exhibition game against Elon,. But it was the scene off the field, and more specifically wrapped around it, that made the most headlines on the day.

A massive 4,505-person crowd turned out to see the Gamecocks in their final home tune-up before the start of the regular season, with the bleachers filled to capacity and a standing-room only crowd lining the fences around Stone Stadium.

“I have never seen a c rowd like that for a preseason match.

It’s u nbelievable,” head coach Mark Berson said. “Hats off to everybody, and we appreciate — especially the ones back behind the goal — they gave us a lot of support back there. It’s a great, great group.

Really exciting.”
