HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA

The annual Holiday Extravaganza will get you in the holiday spirit as you shop a variety of vendors featuring clothing, gifts, food, homemade items, décor and more. Advance tickets are available at the Dayton House, HyVee, Adorn 1024, The Daily Apple and Worthington Federal Savings Bank. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

WINE AND DINE Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15; events begins promptly at 7 p.m. This wine-and-food-pairing event will feature upscale wines from the highly credited Goldschmidt Vineyards. Six different wines will be paired with food from the 1015 Steak Company of Sibley, Iowa. Tickets are available at the Dayton House and Worthington Liquor Store.

Worthington’s annual Holiday Parade features the Spirit of Worthington Trojan Marching Band and ends with the very welcome arrival of Santa Claus. First United Methodist Church will be offering free hot chocolate and cookies to everyone after the parade. Immediately following the parade, Santa will be available to visit with children of all ages at The Stag (412 10th St.) until 8 p.m.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7 Various holiday-themed events will be happening at businesses and organizations around Worthington. Activities, treats and spirited fun will be found wherever you look. Because the Christmas in Pioneer Village event is not taking place this year, dancers from Kay Williams Prunty’s The Dance Academy will be performing at Phileo’s from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 7. Grab a $3 roll and coffee in the morning, a $5 lunch special, or a $3 dessert and coffee in the afternoon while you watch the dancers perform. Worthington’s Holiday Lighting Contest

The Community Image Committee of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce, Worthington Public Utilities and The Globe are co-sponsoring this year’s Holiday Lighting Contest. Worthington residents or businesses that would like to be included must have lights up and on by Nov. 29.

First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded to the photos with the most votes. The winner will be announced on Dec. 20. Be sure to like and follow the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page to keep up to date on the contest!

We are asking the community to nominate homes or businesses that have the best use of color, most original, best composition, most spectacular or best expression of Christmas. To nominate a home or a business, simply take a picture and email it to wcofc@worthingtonmnchamber.com. Addresses will also be accepted; a committee member will go out and take a photo while the lights are on.

All nominations must be received by Dec. 16. Photos will then be posted on the Chamber Facebook page for the community to vote - just “like” the photo to cast your vote.

Prayers will be offered for the Lord’s presence in the struggle with sadness and grief faced by those living with loss. All are invited to attend this meaningful service.

Christmas Tree Forest

“My people will know my name” is the theme for this year’s Christmas Tree Forest, sponsored by Love in the Name of Christ. Running from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and continuing through Thursday, Dec. 5, the forest offers an inspiring collection of decorated trees sponsored by various individuals and businesses throughout Worthington. There is no cost to view the trees, but viewers are able to support Love INC by purchasing tickets to vote for their favorite trees. The tree that raises the most money wins! Various activities for children will be available. Complete your forest stroll with free cider and a cookie. Love INC’s ninth annual forest can be found at First United Methodist Church, 608 11th St., Worthington.

Not limited to Christmas, the evening includes traditional ceremonies, crafts, clothing, foods and cultural celebrations presented by members of Worthington’s diverse community and representing more than 30 cultures. This is a wonderful way to get a little taste of celebrations throughout the world. Entertainment will include piano solos from local students. A suggested donation of $10 goes to support the Minnesota West Foundation, offering scholarships for students of diversity. Kids 14 and under are free. A free-will offering will be taken.
