My favorite memory of senior year was definitely my senior musical. I loved getting to spend time with all of my favorite people and getting to create something together. The most important thing I’m going to miss because of this pandemic is my graduation and graduation party. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to for the whole year, and now it won’t be able to happen the way everyone thought it would. My message to my classmates and the upcoming senior class: I know how badly we want to graduate and leave, but remember to cherish the time we have with our friends. It’s over much too quickly, and you never know when a pandemic might happen to change your plans.
*Kalea Appel

Marching in Georgia was a highlight of my senior year. I’m disappointed that we aren’t having a real graduation ceremony, but on the bright side, the Class of 2020 will never be forgotten! My message is: Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.

My favorite senior year memory would have to be the football games! I loved dressing up for the themed nights and cheering in the student section! My senior prom is an experience I will miss as well as my senior graduation ceremony! To the graduating class of 2020, I’m sorry our year isn’t going as planned. We will get through this. When we look back on our senior year, don’t focus on the time we didn’t get, focus on the time we did get, the memories we have, and the friends we made.
Favorite senior year memory: Having a very successful girls hockey season. Our last playoff game was extremely fun to play, it was a close game, and we ended up losing 2-3 against Mankato East. It was a great way to end the season! Senior experiences I miss the most: Being able to take face-to-face classes with my friends. Message to my classmates: The school year might not have ended the way we wanted it to but we can still have some pretty fun class reunions together!

My favorite senior year memory is definitely when the marching band went to Georgia over Christmas break. I had a blast with my last parade, exploring and bonding even more with my best friends. <3 Out of all the senior year festivities, I will miss getting to walk across the stage in front of thousands of people to receive my diploma, and hearing/playing with the band one last time. My message to my classmates is: Thanks for all the memories, big and small. They each have such a special place in my heart, and I am so thankful for each and every person I have encountered. There are no words to describe the type of community I have found here and I am forever grateful. Hopefully we can all meet up again soon! Good luck on all your dreams and goals!
My favorite senior year memory: When I would get help from my teachers and be able to get a better understanding of my homework. The senior experience I missed the most: Prom My message to classmates: Be safe and hopefully when this is all over, everybody should have fun and go out and enjoy being with their friends.

Will Brandner My favorite memory as a senior was playing football for the last time with my best friends. Although we weren’t good, the memories we made and the friendships that came with it will always be something I’m grateful for. I’m missing out on a lot, we all are. Not having graduation and prom and all of that obviously hurts. Personally though, the thing I’m missing out on that hurts the most is my senior baseball season. I got hurt at the beginning of the season last year, and ever since I played that last game, the one thing I looked forward to was coming back this year and playing every single game like it was the last I’d ever play. I looked forward to not only making memories with my teammates for the last time, but dominating every time we stepped on the field. Now, none of that will happen. I’m ending my high school baseball career being the guy who hurt his elbow, and what could’ve been something great, a comeback story of sorts, has ended as an unwritten story. One that couldn’t be finished, or even started for that matter. A message I’d like to send to the senior class is: Thank you for all the good times, you guys have been dope.

My favorite senior memory was when the band went to Georgia because it was kind of a last hoorah with my band friends and I got the opportunity to see Georgia. I missed out on my last year of softball, which was really important to me because I love the sport and the team had a good chance of doing great things this year. I also missed out on senior prom. My message to my classmates: “We can’t control what’s happened but we can control our outlooks about the situation. There is beauty behind all this mess and I ask you to look for it.”
My favorite senior year memory is when school started because it was my last year. I didn’t have that many favorite senior memories because the pandemic was going around the world. My senior experience is Distance Learning because it was a challenge for me. My message to classmates: I hope all seniors have a good year; it’s not easy for all of us what is going on. Never give up, keep going until you get your goal. I will miss all you seniors. It is the last year for us.

Misti Dieter My favorite senior year memory was the band trip to Atlanta in December. It was so much fun, and it was a great way to end four fantastic years of marching band. I’m really sad that I won’t be able to have a normal graduation ceremony. That’s been the light at the end of the tunnel for this whole year, but unfortunately it’s not possible. Message to classmates: Senior year might not have gone according to plan, but on the bright side, this will always be a year to remember.

WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEND TO YOUR CLASSMATES? Kaden Freking My favorite memory of my senior year would have to be watching the homecoming game with friends for the last time. Hopefully this virus ends soon, but my final year of trap has been put on hold. I believe prom has been put on hold, who knows if I’ll even be able to walk down the aisle at graduation. One of the classes I was looking forward to was restoring a tractor, which I won’t be able to do. I want to tell my class to stay strong and push through this just like you would with any other obstacle the world will throw at you. If we can get through this, we can get through anything.

Dania Garcia Robles My favorite memory of this year was the first day of school, starting to make lots of friends. I practically missed all the experiences that a senior might experience in his senior year. Mainly the coexistence with my classmates, the prom that I was going to make my first and last time to attend a party like this, it was always my dream from a very young age and the last one was my graduation next to all the people, I would have liked that everyone will attend as they regularly do in previous years. My message to classmates: This is just the beginning of your futures because there are still many good things coming for you and, with that, I want to tell everyone that you always have to believe in yourself. There is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle. Much success and luck to all of you!

Favorite “senior year” memory: I don’t really think I have ONE favorite memory. All of the connections and the time I spent at the school as a senior will be something I will always remember. I strengthened relationships with people and created so many memories that I will cherish. Missed senior experience: I’m sad that the band bash did not happen. I play clarinet and ever since I joined the concert band I looked forward to getting a balloon on my chair for the last band concert. I’m also sad about missing the academic ceremony because then I would have been recognized for getting to state and nationals for FCCLA. My message: I know this is not what we seniors hoped for. We didn’t want this to happen and we hope it doesn’t happen again. Even though we didn’t get the senior year we wanted, we can still be happy knowing that we did it! We made it. Keep those good memories we shared and thrive.
My favorite senior year memory was playing in the WHS Pep Band with my friends. We always looked forward to getting a little crazy and energizing the crowd! The experience I missed the most was having a traditional graduation ceremony. I will not walk across the stage to have my tassel moved or take pictures with my friends after the ceremony. Although, I will have a very unique story to tell about my virtual ceremony and a community parade. My message to classmates: Great friends are HARD to find, DIFFICULT to leave, IMPOSSIBLE to forget. Best of Luck Class of 2020!

Ethan Henderson My favorite senior year memories were dressing up for all of the different weeks, hanging with friends, and going to Atlanta, Georgia with the marching band. The senior experiences that I missed because of the pandemic are missing prom, having a normal graduation, and my senior year of baseball with my teammates. My favorite senior memory is being able to be with my friends and participating in sports with them! I wish I would’ve been able to spend the last quarter at the high school because I’ll never be able to go back and sit in another high school classroom again and see the teachers. I would like to tell all the students that high school goes by very fast. You don’t realize how much you’ll miss the teachers, the sports and the students until you are a senior and knowing you won’t be able to go back. Don’t take anything for granted!
My favorite Senior memory is performing at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis for All-State Orchestra back in February. What did I miss most about senior year? Over in Sioux Falls, S.D. I was a part of the South Dakota Symphony Youth Orchestra and I missed out on my final concert to not only perform with the orchestra a final time but to also have an original composition be premiered by the orchestra and myself conduct it. To the Senior class: We all lost so much, whether its sports, concerts, projects and so on. However, we all share the same loss of not being able to do any of these activities, and thus we truly graduate as equals.

My favorite senior memory is when school started I was very happy and excited because it was my last year. My big experience is Distance Learning because it was a challenge and very hard for me. Mauricio Mena My favorite senior memory was going to Atlanta with the marching band in December. I’ve never gotten the opportunity to travel outside of the Midwest, and every day there was a new adventure for me. Obviously, there are many experiences that got cancelled due to the pandemic, but out of all of them, I was most saddened by not being able to participate in my first and last solo/ ensemble contest with my choral duet. To my classmates: I’m not a very social person, and I didn’t come to WHS until my junior year, but you guys took me in and gave me so many experiences and great memories. Katie O’Donnell My favorite senior year memory was having the privilege of being a leader. Being able to serve all the different facets of the school I was involved in was a huge blessing, and I wish I had expressed my gratitude for that opportunity to my classmates sooner. I miss the senior concerts in band, choir and orchestra the most. The balloons, the celebration, and the tears. We’d been watching and waiting for our time to shine for 4 years, and it never came. My message to classmates: I’m so thankful for all of you, and I’m heartbroken we might never get to say goodbye. I can’t wait to tell my grandchildren about how strong each and every one of you are. • Wednesday, May 20, 2020 • 11 Payton Sauerbrei One of the most memorable parts of my senior year was winning a basketball game in double overtime against Windom and finding out that school was cancelled the next day. That was a really fun night with my teammates. Being crowned Homecoming queen was another amazing memory that I’m so grateful for. I think what I’m the most upset about missing out on is softball because it would have been a great season. My advice to my classmates is to always live in the present. We waste too much time dwelling on the past and worrying about the future. Spend more time enjoying your experiences and appreciating the people around you because things clearly do change in the blink of an eye.

My favorite senior year memory: Senior night on the basketball team. The senior experiences I missed the most: I missed going on some college visits and signing to play basketball. My message to classmates: I want my classmates to know that this pandemic is just a temporary obstacle. Just focus on being kind and the best versions of yourselves. You all have great potential — just keep working hard and stay motivated. Don’t let obstacles keep you from your goals.
My favorite senior high school memory would have to be the final performance of the musical, because everyone worked really hard and performed flawlessly. What senior experiences did I miss the most: I really miss the late night drives with my friends and just being able to see them again. My message to classmates: Even though this isn’t the way we expected to graduate, everything will work out and be okay.

My favorite senior year memory: Going to all of the thrift stores in town and in nearby towns with my best friends. They made the year better than it turned out to be. What I miss the most: As of right now, I miss just being able to see people who are my acquaintances. I am able to talk to my friends any time, but I miss communicating with those I usually don’t have full conversations with. I miss being able to have a wider circle than my family and close friends. My message to classmates: I want my classmates to know that this is honestly a great time. A great time to grow as a person and grow relationships that were otherwise failing (with family, friends or significant others). But I also want them to know that most people forget what their senior year (with prom and graduation) were like. We will NEVER forget that our year was sabotaged by a virus, and that makes it even more special.
Favorite Senior Memory: Senior Kickball and Gamedays Missed Experiences: The 2020 softball season, prom, Senior Skip Day/Pranks, Senior Breakfast and a traditional graduation ceremony in front of all my friends and family. Message: Our senior year will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. We need to make the best of what was thrown our way and grow from it. We are all in this together and that is something that will never change.
