GETTING AROUND

There are plenty of ways to get around the 50 acres of Dakotafest. Take advantage of the many convenient transportation options provided.

ON-SITE SHUTTLE

A complimentary on-site shuttle will be circling the show grounds throughout the three days. Look for the DAKOTAFEST SHUTTLE STOP signs and hop on for a ride around the perimeter of the show.

PARKING LOT SHUTTLE

Shuttles will run through the parking lots during the show days to help you get from your car to the entrances and back again. Shuttles will make multiple stops throughout the parking lot.

SHUTTLE SAFETY

As they say at the amusement park, “Keep your hands and feet inside the ride.” For your safety please keep your arms and legs inside the on-site and parking lot shuttles. Please secure your belongings and hold on to young children to avoid injury.

GOLF CART RENTAL

Golf carts, provided by NB Golf Car, are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cart rental is located at the East Entrance Gate. Outside golf carts are not permitted.

GOLF CART SAFETY

Please operate your golf cart responsibly. The grounds of Dakotafest are busy with both foot traffic and other vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Keep your speed to a minimum. Golf carts may not carry more passengers than available seating. Please do not enter an exhibit with your golf cart. Remove your key when you exit. Anyone found not following these rules will be asked to return their golf cart for the day.

BASIC INFORMATION

Dakotafest is being held in person on the show grounds in Mitchell, South Dakota, Aug. 15-17. The show opens each day at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 4:00 p.m.

For attendees new to the show or for anyone needing a refresher, below are some details to know about the show.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

FROM NORTH HIGHWAY 37:

Take a right on Hwy. 37 Bypass/truck route. Go approximately 2 blocks and then turn left onto Sanborn Street. Go south on Sanborn Street approximately 2 miles until you reach the lights at Havens Street. Turn left and proceed east on Havens until you get to the South Burr Street intersection. Turn right and proceed south just past I-90. From here you will be directed to the Dakotafest site.

FROM WEST ON I-90:

Take exit 332 from West I-90. Turn right and proceed approximately 1 block. Turn left at lights and follow signs to the Dakotafest site.

FROM EAST ON I-90:

ADMISSION & PARKING

Tickets to the show are $7 per person at Dakotafest.com purchased prior to the show or $10 per person at the gate. Kids 17 and under are admitted for FREE and parking is also FREE.

PET POLICY

Attendees aren’t allowed to bring their pets to the show grounds, with or without leashes. ADA-approved service animals are permitted.

Take exit 332 from East I-90. Turn left on South Hwy. 37 and proceed approximately 2 blocks. Turn left at the lights and follow signs to the Dakotafest site.

FROM SOUTH HIGHWAY 37:

Take a right at the lights just before the I-90 interchange and follow signs to Dakotafest site.

MITCHELL — The 27th annual edition of Dakotafest is set for midAugust, with farmers, ranchers, producers and business representatives planning to visit the Mitchell area to talk all about agriculture.

The three-day farm show will take place on Aug. 15-17 at 2300 E. Spruce St. on the southeast edge of Mitchell. The show will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, with more than 400 exhibitors scheduled to be in attendance.

The newest attraction will be the Dakotafest Networking Lounge, which will include live music and a cash bar serving beer and seltzers. Live music is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The lounge is located at Booth No. 844 near the northeast corner of the grounds, which will have a new admission entrance, giving

showgoers now three access points. The area is also where the youth pedal pull will take place daily at 1 p.m.

Another attraction is the free ice cream social from South Dakota State University Extension, which will take place at 1:30 p.m. each day at booth No. 216, located between the Livestock tent and the grounds’ Main Street. The SDSU Extension booth will also have information and presentations regarding crop management, land values and rental rates, conservation drainage options, energizing rural communities, managing grasslands through prescribed fires and optimizing feedstuffs for beef cattle.

Also in the northwest corner of the grounds, the Dakotafest Education Building will also include some of the notable forums taking place during the show. On Tuesday, Aug. 15, a noon forum will have industry leaders discussing top priorities for South Dakota and national agricultural commodities. Groups expected to be represented include

the American Farm Bureau Federation, National Farmers Union, U.S. Cattlemen’s Association, National Pork Producers Council, Ranchers Cattlemen Action Legal Fund United Stockgrowers of America, American Soybean Association and the National Corn Growers Association.

A 1 p.m. forum on Wednesday, Aug. 16 will include South Dakota Congressional delegation providing updates regarding the farm bill and agriculture policy at the federal level. Scheduled to speak are U.S. Sens. Mike Rounds and John Thune, R-S.D., and U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D.

At 10:30 a.m.

Thursday, Dakotafest will hold its Women in Agriculture event, which will feature the presentation of the Dakotafest Woman Farmer/Rancher of the Year award. The award finalists include Pam Geppert, of Kimball; Kelsey Geraets, of Humboldt; Judi Larson, of Artesian; Julie Walloch, of Lesterville; and Calli Williams,

of Mitchell. SDSU Extension Community Vitality Field Specialist Peggy Schlechter will be the keynote speaker. A number of Dakotafest staples are back on the schedule

for 2023, with seed plot and technical product demonstrations taking place throughout the show, along with livestock-focused exhibits and live chute demonstrations taking

place at the Livestock Tent on the grounds’ west edge. A machinery ride and drive will also take place near the seed plot displays on the south edge of the grounds.
