Dakotafest returns to Mitchell with big schedule

By Marcus Traxler The Daily Republic With Dakotafest right around the corner, schedules and plans for the annual agriculture showcase are coming together.

That includes the lineup of political candidates, exhibitors and events, which will be held Aug. 21-23 in Mitchell.

The highlights include a pair of political forums on Aug. 22, including the South Dakota gubernatorial debate at 10 a.m., followed by a U.S. House candidate forum at 1 p.m. Both of those events will be held in the Dakotafest Education Building.

The committed gubernatorial candidates include Democratic Party candidate State Sen. Billie Sutton, Libertarian Party candidate Kurt Evans and Constitutional Party candidate Terry LaFleur. Republican Party Candidate U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem has also been invited to the event.

The U.S. House forum will include Republican Dusty Johnson, Democrat Tim Bjorkman, Libertarian George Hendrickson and Independent Ronald Wieczorek. Dakotafest Show Manager Amy LaTessa said having the forums Wednesday at the event makes the most sense for both the candidates and the show’s

organizers.

“We still have some things to work on in the next month and we’re finalizing a lot of our schedule but it looks like it’s going to be another great show,” LaTessa said.

“I know we’re getting close to being sold out with the exhibitor spaces.”

Welcome to Dakotafest How to find Dakotafest I-90 Exit 332, turn South onto Burr St., Continue South 1/4 mile and turn left heading East on Spruce Ave. Continue East 1 Mile.

From North Highway 37: Take a right on Hwy. 37 Bypass/truck route. Go approximately 2 blocks and then turn left onto Sanborn Street . Go south on Sanborn Street approximately 2 miles until you reach the lights at Havens Street . Turn left and proceed east on Havens until you get to the South Burr Street intersection. Turn right and proceed south past K-Mart and just past I-90. From here you will be directed to the Dakotafest site.

From West on I-90: Take exit 332 from West I-90. Turn right and proceed

approximately 1 block. Turn left at lights and follow signs to the Dakotafest site.

From East on I-90: Take exit 332 from East I-90. Turn left on South Hwy. 37 and proceed approximately 2 blocks. Turn left at the lights and follow signs to the Dakotafest site.

From South Highway 37: Take a right at the lights just before the I-90 interchange and follow signs to Dakotafest site.

AIRPORT ACCESS: Fly into the

Mitchell Municipal Airport/Wright Brothers Ltd. And take a FREE shuttle directly to Dakotafest!Call Palace Transit (605-995-8440) to make your transportation arrangements.

The main office is centrally located on the corner of Main and 4th Street. Just look for the giant American flag flying proudly over the grounds. For questions, contact the show office at 605-995-1058.

Information Booth:

Lost Children:

Please check in or call the Show office.

In the event of a lost child, the staff at the Show office will make an announcement over the PA system to help locate your child.

Sponsored by Sukup, can be found near the East and West entrances. The staff at the information booths can answer any questions you have and can point you in the right direction.

Need to load large purchases? Pull up to the Show Material Handling/Loading Area, located near the Southeast corner of the show.

Handicapped parking is available in the first row of the East and West attendee parking lots.

On Site Shuttles ON-SITE SHUTTLE: A complimentary on-site shuttle will be circling the show grounds throughout the three days. Look for the DAKOTAFEST SHUTTLE STOP signs and hop on for a ride around the perimeter of the show.

PARKING LOT SHUTTLE: A shuttle will run through the parking lot during the show days to help you get from your car to the entrances and back again. Shuttles will make multiple stops throughout the parking lot.

GOLF CART RENTAL: Golf carts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cart rental is located at the East entrance gate.

DAKOTAFEST WOMEN’S BRUNCH Wednesday, August 22 at 10 a.m. at Highland Conference Center Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the annual Women’s Brunch to provide a fun and inspirational event for women.

The event is held alongside the Dakotafest Farm Show.

The Dakotafest Women’s Brunch is scheduled for Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Highland Conference Center. Advance tickets are $15, available at the Chamber of Commerce (615 N. Main St, Mitchell) or $20 at the door.

This year’s theme is “Are You A Secret Weapon?”. Amanda Radke will be this year’s speaker and will present her message; Women in Ag: The industry’s secret weapon for busting
