MESSAGE FROMTHE DISTRICT TREASURER Hey Key Club Treasurers! This is Aneesh Pappu, your district treasurer. I hope you are all having a wonderful and productive school year and, for all you seniors, I hope that college applications are going well! We are currently in the midst of my favorite time of the year – dues season! Dues season runs until December 1st and is the time frame in which all clubs must submit dues in order to be a part of Key Club International. Although there are many service organizations aside from Key Club that do not require payments to join, there is no group that provides you with the same level of opportunities as we do. When you pay dues to join, you’re joining an international organization with ties and projects all over the world. Your dues provide you with the opportunity to fundraise for projects such as the Eliminate Project in order to cure deadly diseases around the world. The benefits don’t stop there however; joining Key Club provides you and your club with resources to succeed. As a paid member, you and your club immediately receive the benefits of district support ranging from the help of your Lieutenant Governor and District Executive Officers to the aid of the adult Kiwanians who support us in each and every endeavor we undertake. As we enter October a very important deadline for dues submission is arriving – Early Bird dues are due November 1st. Although it is not required to meet this deadline, submitting your club’s dues by this time and an Early Bird patch for your club’s banner. In order to meet this be
13
deadline, each club must submit $12.50 per member for at least 15 members through the Membership Update Center (MUC), which can be found at www.keyclub.org/MUC. If you have not logged into the MUC this school year yet, it is crucial that you sit down with your adviser, login, and begin the registration process. If you have any issues with login credentials, be sure to email memberservices@kiwanis.org and include me as well (apappu97@gmail.com). After the Early Bird deadline, the final deadline for dues submission is December 1st. Unfortunately, clubs who do not submit their dues by this date will be placed on delinquent status, which can eventually translate into suspended and even inactive statuses for clubs. In order to avoid this, I highly recommend that you finish the dues process as soon as possible! I am also always available to assist if you have any issues, so don’t hesitate to shoot me an email or Facebook message if you ever need to! Happy Dues Season! In Caring & Service,
Aneesh Pappu Pacific Northwest District Treasurer Key Club International apappu97@gmail.com

MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR LISA Dear PNW Key Clubbers, I hope everyone has had a great start of the school year, and you know what the start of the school year means... Your club’s first Key Club Meeting! Key Club is in full bloom, and I can’t wait to see what your clubs are doing for service and fundraisers! Remember, if you show how passionate you are for Key Club others will be inspired to join. Be proud to be a Key Clubber and remember to exemplify leadership and character, while always being inclusive and caring to those around you. Meeting all of you at the rallies was so inspiring; you are all constantly dedicating your time and love to the communities across the Pacific Northwest. I love how you represent key club with your pride and spirit while showing the dedication and compassion you hold for others. As always, remember the district board is here for the members and clubs. Please feel free to contact us at any time with your questions or concerns. I hope to see y’all at DCON 2015!

FUNDRAISING IDEAS FOR ELIMINATE Make miracle minutes class competitions at assemblies. If you have any Eliminate fundraisers, get the Leadership class involved, and/or other clubs. Have shoot outs during halftime for basketball games. People pay to shoot from the three point line, and they win something if they get it (there are many different variations to the basketball shoot out). Have people pay to try to kick a football into a field goal from a certain distance, and if they get it, they win something. Have miracle minutes at halftime for sports, but make sure to explain what the project is. Hold a coin drive or penny war class competition or school wide fundraiser where every 100 lives you save , a staff member gets punished or the school is rewarded (increments can vary). For example, 100 lives=Principal gets pied, 200 lives=Lip-synch by Chemistry and Algebra teacher, 300 lives=A teacher shaves their head, etc. “Kiss a senior goodbye” at the end of the year. You can either auction off seniors, or have a set price.
23
Another coin drive/penny war idea. Each grade gets its own jar in a common area. Dollar bills and pennies are positive points, everything else is negative. You put dollar bills and pennies in your own grade’s jar to increase their points, and dimes/quarters/nickels/etc. in other jars to decrease their points. Advertise by saying “Bring down the freshmen”, “Don’t let the seniors win”, etc. Have a volleyball tournament with staff vs. the players, seniors vs. staff, juniors vs. seniors, etc. where people pay for admission, admission fee goes to the Eliminate Project. Hold concessions at this event with the proceeds going to Eliminate. Ask the adults in charge of selling sports tickets to ask people who are purchasing the tickets if they would like to donate to the Eliminate Project. Have the ASB donate $2 per dance ticket sold, and on the back of the ticket write "I saved a mother and her future babies" or something along those lines. The advantage is that the people would go to dances anyway, are now contributing to the project. To clarify, you aren't increasing the price of the tickets by $2. Involve other clubs and the Leadership class to Trick-or-Treat for Unicef. Advised not to open it up to the whole school, tracking the money will get difficult. Have a dance where all proceeds go to eliminate!

INTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE TASHRIMA Hey, Pacific-Northwest! My name is Tashrima Hossain, and I’d like to introduce myself as the new International Trustee for your district. It is such an honor to be in your service, primarily by ensuring that your voices are heard at the international level during the upcoming year. I’m excited to join the PNW moose; I’ve already received so much enthusiasm from the Board, I’ve heard many great things about PNW, and I can’t wait to see all the great achievements your district has in store. To let you know a little about myself, I am from Cypress, Texas, which is a suburban area adjacent to the Houston border. In addition to Key Club, I devote much of my time to debate and Student Council— which often leaves with very little time for sleep! As a result, I’m a bit of a grandma, and I like spending much of my free time sleeping, reading, or just hanging out with friends. For those of you who would like to know more about my duties as International Trustee, I have a few basic responsibilities: attending International Board meetings, participating in a maximum of two district visits, and acting as a representative of the international level of Key Club. In addition, Governor Lisa and I completed a Governor-Trustee agreement, which identified the main expectations Lisa has of me, as your district’s Trustee; many of said goals revolve around constant communication and building positive Sister District relations—all of which are means to ensure that I effectively represent your views on the international level.
25
Additionally, I serve with Jenalee Beazley, Rip Livingston, Liz Moore, and Nicole Lema on the Growth and Communications Committee. There, we predominantly focus on fostering a connection between advisors and Kiwanis clubs, making Key Club a school-wide name, creating a “cool factor” for Key Club, empowering local clubs to publicize their work, creating a strategic growth plan for KCI, and creating an annual club census. We already have a very specific set of goals and action steps for the first quarter; I plan to update you all with any progress in that arena. During my term, I will stay committed to the goals I campaigned with, but more than that, I intend to actively serve as a resource for you all. If you have questions about amendments, elections, service, or general Key Club knowledge, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’m here as a resource, friend, and assistant in any way you may need. Call me, email me, Facebook me— I’m always ready to lend a hand.
