While in high school, Doug developed a lifelong interest in classic and Hot Rod cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles. tric Company for a while before moving to Kalispell, Montana, for almost a decade. While there, Doug developed another love for early American history, combining it with his artistic ability as a craftsperson in which he made museumquality replicas of black powder rifles doing rifling of barrels, engraving and carving, etc., for collectors. Doug later moved back to the Schenectady area, and around 2000 to the Sidney, area where his widowed mother had moved. Doug worked several jobs in the area including briefly at Amphenol. After this, Doug attended SUNY Delhi and received an Associate in Applied Science degree in CAD drafting in 2001, which led to a drafting job at Custom
Electronics in Oneonta. He did various other jobs and later in life worked as an Afton school bus driver before finally working as a driver for Auto Plus in Bainbridge. Through the years, Doug acquired and maintained contact with many friends in all of the places he had lived. Doug supported the Veterans of Foreign Wars with various volunteer projects as he learned about them. Doug also had a great love for three shelter dogs that shared his life and that he adored named Pilgrim, Buster and Harley Jane, aka Janie. Doug is survived by sweet Janie, the dog, adopted by his sister, Nancy Fritschler of Oxford and her husband, Karl. He is also survived by
his niece, Sarah Fritschler of Norwich; and cousin, Thomas Winshurst Jr. of Hebron, Kentucky, and family. There will be a small family interment at Memory Gardens, Latham, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of America, ASPCA, or a local animal shelter. Harold R. Anderson April 30, 1930 - Dec. 28, 2021 DILLSBURG, Pa. - Surrounded by his family, Harold R. Anderson "Hal" went home to Heaven on Dec. 28, 2021. His granddaughter Camryn passed away on Dec. 5, 2021. We can easily imagine she greeted him saying, "Grandpa. You are going to love it here." Hal was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. There were no strangers to Hal who would befriend any person and any dog that crossed his path. With his genuine personality and sense of humor he made people feel comfortable and valued right away. Hal's values of faith in Jesus Christ, family and patriotism were reflected in his life. His happiest days were spent preparing to host family and friends in his home and annual family reunions at his cabin in his hometown of upstate Oneonta. His competitive spirit filled
family gatherings with fierce card games and bouts of laughter. He enjoyed entertaining others with stories and as "The Music Man" at the library or in nursing homes. Hal served in the United States Army as a radio operator in the Korean War and proudly wore his Korean War hat wherever he went. He loved when people thanked him for his service. He instilled into his four daughters a love of America, respect for the military and law enforcement and taught them to stand for the flag anytime it passed by. Patriotic songs were sung at family gatherings and Hal's harmonica would always be heard around campfires. He moved to Pennsylvania after he retired from P&G. An Eagle Scout, he served as a mentor for boys and was a mentor for Trail Life boys at West Shore Free Church. Hal was a charter member and chaplain of the American Legion in Dillsburg,
Pennsylvania, a Dillsburg Borough Councilman and Harvey Cedars Bible Conference board member. Hal is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce (Payne); four daughters, Laurie Collins (Steve), Julie Oldham (Jon), Nancy Walvatne (Ken) and Elizabeth Anderson; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way. Hal will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, including the children around the neighborhood and church. Buck was a childhood friend with whom he shared a birthday card since 1954. We are confident he will rest in peace, knowing the legacy he has left and the torch he lit for us to carry on. A celebration of life will be held on April 30, with burial in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania, at a later time. Memorial contributions may be given to Harvey

Roberta L. Anderson Nov. 30, 1936 - Jan. 11, 2022 ONEONTA - Roberta L. Anderson, 85, is reunited with her husband, Norman. She passed away Jan. 11, 2022. She was born on Nov. 30, 1936, in Brooklyn, to Robert and Jeanne (Jacobsen) Kramer. She was raised in East Islip, Long Island, and attended school there. Following graduation from high school, Roberta began a long career in banking. It was at work that she first saw Norm, and knew immediately that she would marry him. Roberta and Norman were united in marriage on Feb. 25, 1956, and shared 64 years together before his passing on Jan. 6, 2021.
Roberta's greatest passions were her roles as a wife and mother. Once the youngest children were in school, she worked parttime as a bank teller, always making sure she was home when school was over. The family moved to the Oneonta area from Long Island in the 70s and it wasn't long after her arrival in town that Roberta began working in banking again. She worked for and retired from Wilber National Bank, Oneonta. She volunteered for several organizations over the years, including the A.O. Fox Hospital Auxiliary, The Lord's Table, Saturday's Bread and many events at her church. Roberta is survived by
four daughters and their families, Margaret Argo (Robert) of Oneonta, Laura Anderson, of Sacramento, California, Ingrid VanDenAbbeele (Mark) of Westminster, Colorado, and Norma Anderson of Bridgewater, Massachusetts. She also leaves seven, cherished grandchildren, Gabrielle, Robert, Isabelle, Andrew, Sigrid, Simon and Linneah. She is further survived by brothers and sisters-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman; parents; son, Howard; daughter, Jennifer; brothers, Kenneth and George; and many extended family members. Roberta loved flowers and
plants and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed the fresh floral bouquets that were brought to her each week for the past few years. She tended to her plants and took pride in seeing how much her visitors enjoyed her "indoor window garden." Roberta firmly believed that flowers are for the living and requested no flowers at the time of her passing. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Roberta's memory may do so to the First Presbyterian Church, 296 Main St., Oneonta. A memorial service for both Roberta and Norman will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

For 43 years she worked at Corning, Inc. as a machine operator and stockroom clerk. Being a single mom didn't hold Ginny back from giving her son the best life. They would get in the car and drive to Florida or Maine for vacation. Ginny loved to read and loved her books. She loved to laugh. But what brought her the greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who will be deeply missed. She was a member of St.
Matthew Lutheran Church, Laurens. Virginia is survived by her son and daughter-inlaw, Jim and Jenn Ganio; two grandchildren, Justin and Jenna Ganio; siblings, John and Mary Lou Ganio, Gino and Joan Ganio, Susan and Kent Hoyt and Robert Ganio; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and lifelong friend, Debbie Barker. Remember me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann’d: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad.

Nicholas J. McKie Jan. 2, 1959 - Jan. 13, 2022 SOUTH NEW BERLIN Nicholas J. McKie passed away peacefully on Jan. 13, 2022, with his wife and children by his side. Nick was born on Jan. 2, 1959, in Norwich. He was kind, loving, generous and a very hard-working man. Nick drove milk truck for more than 30 years and had many other abilities that he used over the years to support his family. He cut and sold firewood, cut and skid trees for logs, worked on farms, grew and sold corn, harvested crops, tapped trees and made maple syrup, fabricated tools, welded many projects, sawed out lumber, mowed lawns and ground stumps. He worked for many years building houses and doing mechanic work on farm implements and tractors. He was a jack-of-all-trades and master of ALL. Nick loved to chat...about the lumber industry, truck driving, farming, crop work, farm equipment, old trucks, dairy industry, his family and his dog. He held many

discussions at the kitchen table, in the driveway, at the hardware store, and almost anywhere. He had long discussions with friends, but also with anyone who had a shared interest. Nick and his father started a family tradition of stopping into diners across New York and Massachusetts. There were very few he had not visited, often with a family member or friend. Nick would go out of his way to speak with someone he thought was struggling in their marriage. Looking back, he could see times when he could have used a heart-to-heart talk and he wanted to be sure to reach out when he could. Nick was married to Karen (Davis) McKie in 1979, separated and then divorced in 1987. After many twists and turns, and lots of learning, the couple reconciled and re-married on Oct. 5, 1996. They celebrated their 25th anniversary last October. They were devoted to and truly loved each oth-
er. They shared two children and six grandsons. Nick's greatest treasure was his family. He always made time for his wife, children and grandchildren. Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Karen (Davis) McKie, South New Berlin; children, Michael (Angela Rickard) McKie, Sherburne and Michelle (Steven Hoke) McKie, West Winfield; and grandsons, Nathan McKie, AJ (Anthony) McKie, Tyler Thompson, Kamron McKie, Chase Hoke and Zane McKie. He is also survived by his mother, Mildred McKie, South New Berlin; sisters, Barbara Threet, Plainfield, Massachusetts, Karen (Don) Foley, Norwich and Clara (John) Sharp, Lincolnton, North Carolina; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kim (Steven) Voorhis, South New Berlin, Scott (Lisa) Davis, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Julie (Don) Hunt, South New Berlin and Brent (Dawn) Davis, Sevierville, Tennessee. I gave you my love, and you can only guess How much you’ve given me in happiness. I thank you for the love that you have shown, But now it is time I traveled on alone. So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It is only for a while that we must part, So treasure the memories within your heart. I won’t be far away for life goes on. And if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can’t see or touch me, I will be near. And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear, All my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile and a ‘Welcome Home.’

DELHI - Michael Bernard Mendelson lived large. Though complicated, he had the biggest heart, the most generous spirit and enviable energy for living. He was a true fighter, whether protesting against the Vietnam War at the University of Wisconsin, arguing for his clients as an attorney; or, later in life, conjuring his body to do things most people thought it was no longer capable of. His ability to express affection, emotions and love was paramount. After graduating from NYU School of Law, he became a winning trial lawyer at the Legal Aid Society before entering private practice. In 1989 he moved to a spot in Delaware County he called paradise where he created amazing gardens. Athletic and full of grit, he ran multiple marathons placing in the top 10% and played tennis at every chance. He did not let the diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease at age 50, define him. He continued to run, play tennis and practice family law until his body told him "no more." When he could no
longer walk, he biked. When he could no longer stand on his own, he still dug holes in the earth to grow his beautiful lettuces. His energy and joy was fed in large part by his love for his son, Claude; daughter, Jesse; and her two daughters, Madeleine and Vera. He is mourned as well by his son-in-law, David Defendini; his son's partner, Jaclyn Grodin; his former wife, Jehed Diamond; extended family and friends. Shiva was suspended because of COVID. A memorial service is being planned. Memories may be shared with the family online at www.mikemendelson.com.

ARLINGTON, Va. - Miriam Hellerud Palmer happily went to be with her Savior, on Jan. 10, 2022. A longtime resident of Masonville, Miriam was born on Staten Island, the daughter of Norwegian immigrants John and Dagny Hellerud. The family eventually moved to Bainbridge. At age 12, Miriam went to work as live-in caregiver for Grace and Ken Wade in Masonville. They treated her much like a daughter, bought her a car and even sent her to college. Miriam enjoyed many activities in high school including majorettes, girls sports, glee club, chorus and home economics, as well as roller skating, and she was also a member of the Masonville Atomics 4-H Club. After high school Miriam attended Delhi Technical In-
stitute and earned an associate degree in home economics. Many years later she received an associate degree in accounting from Delhi Tech. They had four children, Peter, Barbara, Jean and Robert. They made their home in Masonville for nearly 60 years before finally moving to Virginia to be closer to their daughters. But Masonville was always the place they called home. Miriam was a whiz at math and had a keen sense for efficiency in streamlining work processes. She loved animals, cooking for her family and sewing. But
loving her children and extended family was the passion and highlight of her life. She loved taking photographs, movies and videos of her family. She had a sharp wit, laughed a lot and brought fun and laughter to those around her. She was strongwilled and had strong opinions, but she also was very loving, compassionate and generous. It made her happy to be able to share with people who needed a helping hand. Even at her nursing home she loved getting bags of candy that she then distributed to the other residents on her floor. She played the part of the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus to the other residents, joyfully passing out snacks. Miriam is survived by her three children, Jean Palmer of Glen Burnie, Maryland,

so survived by six sisters and three brothers. Lenora devoted her life to her family and friends and was loved by all who knew her. Her primary goal in life was to make sure that everyone who came to visit had a full stomach and was well hydrated. When her offer of food and drink was declined, she would state that you could not blame her if you left hungry. Leonora always had a smile and could make anyone laugh. Her home was full of love and she welcomed everyone who entered with open arms. She will be greatly missed and will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
ANDES - Kathleen Anne (Oles) Woodin passed away peacefully at her home in Andes on Dec. 25, 2021, with her husband, Doug, at her side. Kathy was born Dec. 5, 1947, in Cooperstown, to Frank and Barbara (Rowell) Oles of Andes. She attended Andes Central School graduating in 1966, but more importantly forged many friendships there that lasted her throughout her life. After high school, Kathy attended Albany Business College graduating in 1968. From 1968 until 1972 she worked at the state capitol for Sen. Warren Anderson. After returning to the local area she worked for Delaware County for several years before starting a new career at SUNY Delhi in 1985. She was a vital part of the campus community until her retirement in 2010. She loved working in Bush
Hall and greeting students and their parents on visits and tours. Kathy married her high school sweetheart, Doug, on Nov. 22, 1970, at Andes United Presbyterian Church. They returned to Andes and raised two sons, Matthew and Jared "Boomer." Kathy raised her family in Andes, with her parents next door. The houses and pond on Gladstone Hollow were "home base" for an extended family of nieces and nephews that all enjoyed their time spent there. Kathy was a trustee of Andes Presbyterian Church for many years. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, a point of which she was very proud. In her retirement she enjoyed working in the Andes Historical Society's thrift store (viewing it as a return to her roots as a shopkeep-
er's daughter) and planting gardens and reading voraciously. Time spent with her grandson, Owen, was also a highlight of her retirement years. Kathy is survived by Doug, her husband of 51 years; sons, Matthew of Hamden and Jared "Boomer" of DeLancey; sisters, Susie (Andy) Lazar of Plains, Pennsylvania and Debbie (Jim) Dow of Cooperstown; grandchildren, Kiera, Skyler and Owen; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Frank in 2005; mother, Barbara in July 2021; and sister, Jenny in 1966. A service to celebrate and commemorate Kathy's life was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 8, at Andes Presbyterian Church (face coverings will be required for all in attendance at church) with a luncheon that fol-
lowed at the Andes Fire Hall. Graveside services will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Andes Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 299, Andes, NY 13731. Share condolences with the Woodin family online at www.macarthurfh.com.
