The Daily Star is inviting students in grades 7-12 and adults to participate in our fourth essay contest. Write a 500 word essay answering the question: “What does The Constitution mean to you?” Please include your name, age, grade and contact number with your submission. Deadline is Oct. 16 at noon. Email entries to: vsecor@thedailystar.com, mail to The Daily Star, c/o Essay Contest, 102 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or drop off entries to The Daily Star office at 102 Chestnut St., Oneonta. Three winners from each grade and the adult category will receive a $50 prize and have their essay published in the October 2020 special section, We the People. Additional copies of the Constitution are available at The Daily Star office in Oneonta.

Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on Sept. 17, 1787, recognizing all who are born in the U.S. or by naturalization, have become citizens.

CELEBRATE THE BIRTHDAY OF OUR UNITED STATES OF AMERICA GOVERNMENT On Sept. 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met for the last time to sign the document they had created. All Americans are encouraged to observe this important day in our nation’s history by attending local events in your area.
