EXECUTIVE ALLIANCE: NULLIFIED? Student Government Supreme Court declares executive alliance results invalid; calls for new election.

By Chase Karacostas @chasekaracostas

T

he Student Government Supreme Court has invalidated the results of last week’s executive alliance election and ordered a new election to be held to decide the new student body president and vice president. The ruling said all votes cast in the previous election would not be considered. All executive alliances that qualified during the previous

period will also be allowed to run, meaning the new election will consist of the same seven executive alliance campaigns from before. However, the Dean of Students must give approval before the previous election results are completely invalidated and a new election is held at production time. JB Bird, director of media relations at UT, said the Dean of Students is currently “evaluating the student election and constitution information.” Nutrition senior Colton Becker, who with Plan II and marketing

But, considering how much time had passed, Becker said the announcement is frustrating because his campaign team had already begun preparing for the upcoming transition. “It was very shocking,” Becker said. “We’ve already started to get to work. Austin March for Our Lives builds momentum

Texas THON holds Dance Marathon for miracle children By Jessica Regan @jessicareganut

After an unexpected showing of student volunteers, organizers for the Austin March for Our Lives event were forced to relocate their Saturday meeting from Mozart’s Coffee Roasters to a large picnic table overlooking Lake Austin — still, not everyone could find a seat. The large turnout at the first volunteer meeting was great news for Conor Heffernan and Jack Kappelman, seniors at Liberal Arts and Science Academy High School and two of the three organizers of the march in support of gun control laws.

Texas THON has spent the year raising money and awareness for Dell Children’s Medical Center, but its impact is greater than just monetary sums. Every year, Texas THON holds a 12-hour Dance Marathon to celebrate the young lives they have changed. Texas THON invited the kids who have received financial assistance through the fundraiser to the event Sunday, held in Gregory Gym. This year, the event raised $228,138.69. One of these “Miracle Kids” was Parker Andres, a 7-yearold who battled leukemia for most of his life. Parker Andres’ father, Gregory Andres, said one of the hardest parts was having to tell his son ‘no’ to things he wanted to do. “Parker has had a lot of 1 and 2-out-of-10 days,” Gregory Andres said. “He used to sleep next to the toilet because he was tired of
