Michel Roux O.B.E. is a world renowned French-born chef that has carved out a successful and highly influential Michelin starred career. In 1967, he opened Le Gavroche in London with his brother Albert that became the first 3 Michelin starred restaurant in Britain. His next restaurant, The Waterside Inn, has held a 3 Michelin star rating for over 31 years, a record unsurpassed outside of France. Michel Roux’s list of awards and accolades are truly impressive. This list includes; Meilleur Ouvrier de France, Paris, France 1976; Chevalier de la LÊgion d’Honneur, France 2004; and Ambassador of the Culinary Institute of America, 2014 among many others. Michel Roux has authored 12 books that have sold in excess of two and a half million copies worldwide. These books have been published in 33 different countries and translated into 20 different languages. His latest book, The Essence of French Cooking, is a very personal book and an in-depth definitive look into his work in French cuisine. Apart from his publications, Michel is also a regular television and radio personality and teacher, giving lectures and masterclasses worldwide.



A certified and award winning sommelier, classically trained in Bordeaux, Pierre Bat will be at The Datai Langkawi to pair wines with the exquisite dishes produced by Michel Roux. Recognised as one of the top sommeliers in France and resident sommelier of the house at Veyret Latour, Pierre’s selections and Michel’s cuisine compliment each other perfectly, providing you with an unforgettable night of fine dining under the stars.

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Richard left his home country with two ‘Chef’s Hats’ under his belt - the Down Under equivalent of Michelin Stars. As Executive Chef, he aims to heighten the culinary experience at The Datai Langkawi with his years of experience and through partnership with likeminded culinary enthusiasts. Michel Roux is one of the first in the resort’s Celebrity Chef series and more exciting events are lined up for 2016.


DINNER SET MENU – CANAPÉS – Gougères Calf’s foot fritot with bagnetto sauce Smoked salmon and scrambled egg dôme with brioche Daikon with “Cervelles des Canuts”

– FIRST – Crab salad served with a vegetable macédoine and lovage sauce or Terrine of foie gras, chicken breast and pistachios served with grapes in ratafia

– SECOND – Pan fried scallops and octopus slices served on a bed of celery purée with tamarind sauce or Fillets of poached sole served with a broad bean mousse in champagne and sorrel sauce

– THIRD – Fillet of turbot served with simmered coco beans and a beef chorizo flavoured sauce or Pan fried lobster medallions with a white port sauce and ginger flavoured vegetable julienne

– FOURTH – Beef tournedos Zingara style or Roasted Challandais duck with confit lemon and garlic mash potato

– DESSERT – Classic Paris-Brest or Smooth yogurt dessert with lime marshmallow and raspberries
