For more information, contact Candice Crawford or DCCAH. ARTIST INFORMATION Music is a calling; one that singer/songwriter Candice AlonA felt from early adolescence. Inspired by contemporary artists like Chris Cornell, Layne Staley and Maynard James Keenan – hard rock vocalists also known for writing heady, emotionally provocative lyrics – Candice followed her muse. Having explored her creative inspiration through various styles of rock music, she now fronts her own band, AlonA: an explosive amalgam of modern rock integrating references to alternative, progressive and soul. The emotional core of AlonA can be heard on the captivating six-track debut EP Maelstrom, which navigates an intense, musical minefield through life’s most complex emotions including love, rage and revenge. Another intriguing facet of AlonA is the desire for an intimate connection with the audience that compels this talented, passionate artist to interpret her music via two unique domains. While recording her songs with a full band, she often chooses to perform those same songs in a stripped-down, acoustic setting. The complimentary dualities don’t end there.

Most people perceive the harmonica as a “side” instrument used in country and blues. However, Yonnet is one of a handful of musicians to successfully showcase the harmonica’s versatility as a lead instrument in contemporary jazz, R&B and other genres of music. Just listen to his sound. It funks. It rocks. It hips and hops. It grooves. It sways. It testifies. It prays. It has a reverence for blues and jazz while appealing to a generation breed on pop, rock and hip-hop. The attention and praise he has garnered from such popular musical and generational icons as Stevie Wonder and Dave Chappelle as well as performances with Erykah Badu, John Legend, India.Arie, and Branford Marsalis have exposed him and his powerhouse sound to a wide and diverse audience. Hear music, see videos at www. fredyonnet.com. “Frédéric Yonnet — a Wonder disciple — had a crazy harmonica duel that almost sent Stevie flying off the stage in a frenzy.” Fox News on the Stevie Wonder concert at Madison Square Garden “Fred has an extraordinary ability for wringing torrents of emotion out of that tiny instrument, the harmonica.” Rhome Anderson, mp3.Washingpost.com “Harmonica has played a monumental role in the blues idiom but in jazz it has been employed successfully by only several musicians, Toots Thielemans, Howard Levy and Frédéric Yonnet coming to mind as three who have made significant contributions in the instrument. ARTISTIC DISCIPLINE North Indian Classical Music SIZE OF ENSEMBLE 2 artists TOURING FEE RANGE Minimum: $350 Maximum: $450 AVAILABILITY Year round EDUCATIONAL/RESIDENCY FEE RANGE Not available TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Minimum Stage Dimensions: Enough space for two people to sit comfortably Audio Support Equipment: 3 microphones or cable and amplification for violin pick up Other: One outlet to plug in electronic drone machine ARTIST INFORMATION My programming is consistent with traditional representation of classical music as seen and heard in North India. The elements of a traditional concert recital are as follows: Alap: Unaccompanied introduction where the raag (melodic idea) is unfolded and developed slowly (15-20 min) Jor-Jhala: A continuation of the development of the raag with rhythm (10-15 min) Vilambit Gat: A fixed composition set to a slow tempo rhythmic cycle (15-20 min) Drut Gat: A fixed composition set to a fast tempo rhythmic cycle (10 min) Jhala: A very fast finale (10 min) Dhun: A folk tune or melody (10 min) These sections do not have to be performed together and can be presented as single items. Since the music is highly improvised, the length of time can vary and be adjusted to a presenter’s time restraints. It is necessary for one accompanying musician (tabla performer) for this programming. In addition to the performance, an educational workshop can be presented separately in which the style, history and fundamentals of the music are discussed.

ARTISTIC DISCIPLINE jazz | classical saxophone SIZE OF ENSEMBLE 1-6 artists TOURING FEE RANGE Minimum: $400 Maximum: $3,000 AVAILABILITY Year round
EDUCATIONAL/RESIDENCY FEE RANGE Ages 11 + Minimum: $300 Maximum: $2,500 Educational/Residency Experience: I have substantial experience presenting lectures and educational programs relating to the saxophone, jazz performance, jazz history, and contemporary classical performance practice. I have presented Composers Colloquiums, lectures and masterclasses at universities across the country including Mannes The New School, The Conservatory of Puerto Rico, UC-Berkeley, UC-Davis, Florida State University and Catholic University of America. In addition, I have presented lectures at the International Saxophone Symposium and for the Blue Note Lecture Series in Washington, DC. Past lecture topics have included jazz practice techniques, appreciating the music of John Coltrane, solo performance practice for classical saxophone, and interpreting classical saxophone works with jazz influences. As Musician-In-Residence at American University and Artist-In-Residence at The Levine School of Music I teach jazz and classical saxophone students, combos and saxophone quartets at a variety of skill levels. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS The technical requirements vary based upon the size of the ensemble presenting the performance. The range given below reflects the smallest ensemble used for the “Crosscurrents” concerts to the largest ensemble that would include two distinct stage sets reflecting the “Split Concert” format. Minimum Stage Dimensions: Preferably a raised stage. Minimum: 15 ft x 9 ft Maximum: 24 ft x 12 ft Stage Set: Minimum: A well-tuned piano and two music stands in standard recital format. Maximum: A well-tuned piano, 4 music stands in a jazz combo setup for quintet with trumpet and saxophone. Audio Support Equipment: Minimum: none needed unless performing solo works with “tape” which requires a CD player into the house speaker system or two large amplifiers (provided by the venue). Maximum: Miking for piano, drums, and two horns with two monitors (one between the horns and the other near the piano). Outlet close to stage required for bass amp. Bass player will provide amp and cords. Other: Setup and sound-check with jazz combo format requires 1 hour in space before the performance. ARTIST INFORMATION My performances stretch the boundaries of conventional concerts by exploring the interplay of jazz and classical styles. These concerts include works that were written for me with jazz and classical influences as well as improvisation in jazz and contemporary classical styles. Crosscurrents is inspired by my solo recording of the same name released on the Albany label in 2007. These recitals focus on repertoire written by contemporary composers that incorporate jazz influences and explore the variety and diversity of this approach from the viewpoint of classical composers in a more formal setting. The compositions are generally written for solo saxophone, saxophone and tape, or saxophone and piano. Split Concerts provide a direct comparison between jazz and classical approaches by performing each style separately within the same concert. A recent performance included classical saxophone and piano repertoire before intermission and a jazz quartet during the second half. The unifying theme throughout the concert was “Third Stream” styles and included jazz saxophonist Phil Woods’ Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano and my jazz compositions inspired by minimalism. Mixed Improvisation provides a mixture of jazz and contemporary classical improvisation and composed music within one concert. Typically, these performances focus on one composer or theme. An upcoming collaboration at the National Gallery of Art with David Amram, the first Composer-In-Residence with the New York Philharmonic, will feature compositions and improvisation relating to their current exhibition Robert Frank’s The Americans. 23

The daughter is hoping—foolishly?—that her small piece of art will end genocide in today’s world. Playing 18 characters, Zam travels through Poland and Germany conducting interviews about war; these accounts reveal a world where hatred against a common enemy seems the only road to peace. And yet...This play boldly asks: What can art realistically do to prevent atrocities and human suffering? HOW I GOT RICH IN A YEAR, USING THAT SECRET: A PLAY FOR BELIEVERS, SKEPTICS, AND SLOBS This one-person play, written and performed by Laura Zam, tells the true story of a year in Zam’s life when she used New Age beliefs and practices in an effort to manifest wealth. In Zam’s signature style—a blend of hilarity and pathos—she examines both of these journeys amidst a fictional world of believers, skeptics, and those who really aren’t sure…This innovative and critically-acclaimed play dives head-first into the controversies, implications, possibilities, and limits inherent in The Secret, the Law of Attraction, and other contemporary thinking.
