WHO’S OPENING AND WHERE Whole Foods Market, Inc. (512-477-4455) is planning to open a 50,000 sq.ft. Whole Foods Market at Ward Village, a one-million sq.ft. mixed-use development located along Queen Street in Kakaako, HI during 2017. It will be the company’s largest location in the state. The company is also planning to open a 40,000 sq.ft. store at Market Square Tower, located at the intersection of Alabama Street and East Market Street in Indianapolis, IN during 2017. Additional expansion plans call for locations to open in Buffalo, NY during 2016, in addition to a 40,000 sq.ft. grocery store near Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. The chain, offering organic and natural food items, currently operates more than 379 specialty supermarkets nationwide, as well as in Canada and the United Kingdom and has plans to operate 500 locations by 2017, with 46 openings annually. Delta Apparel, Inc. (864-232-5200) is opening a 2,700 sq.ft. flagship Junk Food Clothing apparel store along Abbott Kinney Boulevard in Venice, CA. The store will offer clothing for men, women and children. The company operates under the trade-names To The Game, LLC and Art Gun, LLC at locations throughout the U.S., El Salvador, Honduras and Mexico. Golfsmith International (800-813-6897) is planning to expand into the VA market. The company, offering golfing accessories and apparel, operates 150 locations under the trade-names Golfsmith and Golf Town. Cinnaholic, LLC (510-647-8684) is launching a nationwide expansion plan through franchisees for Cinnaholic vegan bakeries.

Dick’s Sporting Goods, Inc. (724-273-3400) is planning to open an 80,000 sq.ft. Dick’s Sporting Goods store at Liberty Center in Cincinnati, OH during fall 2015. The company will join Dillard’s and CineBistro at the mixed-use development. The chain currently operates more than 558 Dick’s Sporting Goods stores and more than 87 Golf Galaxy locations nationwide, including six locations in the greater Cincinnati, OH and northern KY market, in addition to its newest concept Field and Stream. Caribou Coffee Co. (763-592-2200) is planning to open 27 Caribou Coffee shops, including nine company-owned and 18 franchised locations, this year. The company, offering coffee, tea, juice and smoothies, is also slated to remodel 306 company-owned locations during the coming five years and currently operates 573 locations nationwide. American Dairy Queen Corp. (952830-0200), through franchisee P and K Investments, Inc., is planning to open six to seven DQ Grill & Chill restaurants in the Mobile, AL market, at a rate of two openings annually. Dover Saddlery, Inc. (978-952-8062) is planning to open four to six Dover Saddlery locations by the end of the year. The company offers equestrian-related products. The Tile Shop (763-852-2977) plans to operate 108 locations nationwide by the end of the year, including 20 new stores and 15 to 20 remodeled locations. The stores, which occupy an average space of 23,000 sq.ft., offer a selection of more than 5,000 types of tiles and natural stone products.

Kipling (808-942-8436) is planning to an outlet store at Waikele Premium Outlets in central Oahu, HI this fall. It will be the chain’s first outlet location in the state. The company offers handbags, backpacks and wallets. The company is based in Belgium and operates outlet stores in CA, FL, GA, NJ, NY, TX and WA and in Puerto Rico, as well as full-line stores in Aventura, FL; Los Angeles, CA and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Slim Chickens (479-575-8704), through a franchisee, is planning to open restaurants in Lincoln and Omaha, NE this year. The chain is expected to grow by 20 franchised units this year, spanning from NE to TX, followed by 12 more locations by 2019. The company, offering wraps, salads, sandwiches, chicken tenders and buffalo wings, currently operates 14 locations, including six franchise restaurants in AR, OK and TX. 100 Montaditos (305-913-0099) is planning to open five eateries in New York, NY this year, as part of an expansion plan to operate 30 locations throughout NY by 2017. The company also negotiated the sale of a 25,201 sq.ft. three-tenant building located within the Edgewater on Montgomery Bay shopping center along California Avenue in Sand City, CA. The property was acquired for $14.7 million. The company is also selling East Side Square, a center located along Tuttle Road in Springfield, OH. The asking price is $2.395 million with a Cap rate of 8.57%.
