Who’s Opening and Where New Home, Inc. (925-828-8080) plans to open 25 New Home stores throughout CA during the next several years, including 10 in the San Francisco Bay area, as part of a plan to eventually operate locations nationwide. The stores offer eco-friendly home building and home improvement products along with free environmental education, certification and training to professionals and homeowners. The first store is slated to open during January 2010 in Dublin, CA. Jennifer Convertibles, Inc. (516-496-1900) will open two Ashley Furniture HomeStores throughout the New York, NY metropolitan area. The company will open a store along Queens Boulevard in the Elmhurst area of Queens, NY and will open a store along Route 110 in the Farmingdale area of Long Island, NY. Whole Foods Markets, Inc. (512-4774455) is slated to open three Whole Foods Market locations throughout HI during 2010, including some delayed openings from previous plans. The company originally planned to open a two-level, 67,000 sq.ft. supermarket at Ward Centers, located in Ward, HI, during 2008, but the plans were opening was pushed to the first quarter of 2010 after the centers developer, General Growth Properties, filed for bankruptcy. Continued construction delays have pushed the opening date until the fourth quarter of 2010. The company has also delayed the opening of a 40,000 sq.ft. supermarket in Kailua, HI, originally slated to open this year, until the fall of 2011. The company will occupy a former First Hawaiian Bank site. The company will also open a 26,366 sq.ft. market at Maui Mall, located in Kahului, HI during the early part of next year. GameStop Corp. (817-424-2000) plans to open a total of 400 GameStop stores nationwide and internationally this year. The stores, selling new and used video games and consoles, occupy spaces of 1,500 sq.ft. The company currently operates 6,200 units nationwide and internationally.
American Apparel, Inc. (213-488-0226) will open an American Apparel store at Valley Fair Mall located in San Jose, CA. At 5,500 sq.ft., the store will be the company’s largest mall store. The store features t-shirts, sweatshirts and underwear along with an expanded selection of apparel for children and infants. The company currently operates 275 stores nationwide and internationally, including units in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Burberry Group Plc (UK: 44-20-7968-0000) is considering accelerating its expansion plans for its Burberry stores in the U.S. The company originally planned to open five stores throughout North America this year, but is citing the drop in rent on premium spaces as incentive to increase expansion efforts. The company recently opened its flagship store in the former Newsweek building, located along Madison Avenue in New York, NY, and will open a Burberry Brit store alongside it next month.
