There is a tremendous amount of misinformation permeating through the lighting industry - specifically with regard to Light-Emitting Diode (LED) technology. There is no doubt that LED lighting is a far better option than its predecessors— incandescent bulbs and fluorescent compacts and tubes. Like all new products, consumers must be able to separate fact from “creative marketing.” Through many hours of research and working closely with our manufacturers, we have assembled some helpful information that will help our clients discern between reality and fiction.

Fact vs Fiction

Compared to older lighting technology, LED offers:

• Longer life

• Lower energy consumption

• No mercury content

• An environmentally-friendly alternative

Contrary to popular belief, LEDs do not last forever. Some sources promote LEDs with 100,000+ hour lifespan - more than 11 years of continuous burning. The fact is, LED technology hasn’t been around long enough for testing to adequately support this claim.

Based on current knowledge, conservative industry experts estimate that LEDs have a useful life ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 hours. While this is a remarkable improvement over older technologies, there are a number of factors that can negatively impact the life of LEDs, including associated bulb components and usage patterns. LEDs tend to dim as they progress through their life cycle, but nevertheless, they do last much longer than other lighting technologies.

ElitePro vs Other LEDs

LED Mini Light Sets

Our LED Mini Light sets are fully rectified; the natural “flickering” of the electrical wave conversion is not visible to the human eye. Most of the industry will use non-rectified or partially-rectified sets in order to save money. The result is a strobe or “flickering” effect.

In addition, sets are also sealed for weather proofing. Due to patent issues, most of the industry will use a replacement bulb—which 1) isn’t needed due to the long life of the diodes, and 2) creates a channel for moisture to get in and damage the internal construction of the light set. The result is either poor or non-performing light sets. Many manufacturers—in an effort to cut costs—do not color match the diodes. As a result, they will produce strings that may have multiple shades of the same color within the same string. We invest the extra money to ensure our diodes match.

LED C7/C9 Replacement Bulbs

Our Legacy C7 bulbs feature 3 diodes. Legacy C9 bulb have 5 diodes in a star pattern in the bulb’s base and dome-sealed. Our SMD C7 bulbs have 2 larger, brighter diodes and the SMD C9 bulbs have 3 larger, brighter diodes and both are dome-sealed as well. Most of the industry will feature unsealed 3-diode bulbs, or they will stack up to 5 diodes, which leads to poor light distribution within the bulb, while allowing moisture to penetrate the inner workings of the bulb. In addition, bulbs are self-ballasted or ballast-adapted— compared to the industry standard of being non-ballasted. Similar to our rectified mini light sets, this step will stabilize the “flicker” effect generated by non-ballasted bulbs.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of our C bulbs is our proprietary, high-impact acrylic shell, featuring added UV protection. These shells will hold their color and clarity, compared to others in the industry that feature polycarbonate or polystyrene, which tend to cloud and discolor over time.

PVC Frames

Our larger frames are made from a strong steel and come in sections, making assembly and storage easier. The size of your wreath will determine the number of sections.

PVC is a non-toxic, hypoallergenic & flame-retardant material. This is a classic look for exterior artificial trees.

Our wreaths up to 48” have a double wire frame. The outer frame is wrapped in foliage, while the inner frame is visible, making this a strong support system.

Our Commercial Grade Garland has UV protected PVC needles with galvanized steel spine wire for strength and durability. Tips are strong and hold their shape in all weather conditions. Our crab lights keep the LED minis in perfect lit position and helps make fluffing a breeze. Each component we use has been selected or developed based on our years of field experience–we know what it takes to assemble a highperformance landscape lighting system.

NTD Transformers

The transformer serves as the ‘heartbeat’ of the landscape lighting system. Our transformers are designed for performanceconstructed of the most durable materials with the most efficient operation. We carry transformers that are suited for today’s LED projects as well as larger transformers designed for big installations. Transformers are available in 50 to 600 watt sizes.

The Lamp does the lighting, thus it is critical to use the best quality product to achieve the optimum results. Our LED lamps use only CREE LED Chips. We stock PAR36, MR16 MR11, and Bi-pin LED retro lamps with wattage and beam spread options. Furthermore, we stock a complete selection of incandescent lamps in a variety of wattages and beam spreads to meet your application.

NTD Controllers

Automation of your landscape lighting system creates convenience and cost savings for you–your system can be set to turn on and off whenever you want, and you don’t have to worry about it. We carry a selection of the most technologically-advanced controllers in the industry, which can be incorporated into your landscape lighting system quickly and efficiently.

NTD Limited Time Warranty

Nite Time Decor guarantees the quality of our products and installation with one of the most comprehensive warranties in the industry. It protects the system and components for years and is effective after the original installation is completed. The warranty DOES NOT cover acts of nature, such as lightning strikes and damage due to physical abuse or vandalism. The warranty is void if anyone other than a Nite Time Decor contractor accesses the transformer for any reason other than the timer adjustment. We will make timely replacements and/or repairs as described below at no additional charge.

Lighting Control Automation Warranty

Nite Time Decor timers, controls, and other automation modules carry a 1-year limited warranty.

Lamp Warranty

Nite Time Decor lamps are covered by a 5-year limited warranty from the initial date of system installation. Only when a Nite Time Decor contractor replaces or installs the lamps does the warranty apply. The installation of the incorrect lamps by the property owner or another firm that causes system failure and/or fixture damage are not covered by warranty.

Transformer Warranty

Nite Time Decor outdoor transformers carry a lifetime warranty.

Light Fixture Warranty

Nite Time Decor guarantees light fixtures for a lifetime, from the installation date.

Wire Warranty

Nite Time Decor outdoor low-voltage wire is covered by a 10-year warranty.

Installation Warranty

Nite Time Decor guarantees installation for one (1) year from installation date. We offer a lifetime warranty on any lighting system that we design, install and maintain. If you choose not to maintain your lighting system with our current maintenance program, your system will be covered only to the limits listed above, or the limits of the individual manufacturer’s warranty of the products used in the design. This warranty covers the performance of the fixtures, transformer and installation. All quality fixtures will experience some finish changes over time. This will not affect their performance, rather increases their appeal. All automation components are covered by their specific manufacturer’s warranty.

There are different styles of lighting, each with unique features that transform your desired spaces! Some of these lighting styles include up-lighting , down-lighting, flood lights, path lighting, deck and step lighting.

Up-Lighting

This technique consists of lighting a property from the bottom up for an elegant effect

Highlighting

This method is used to bring attention to certain elements like trees, walls, etc.

Down-Lighting

Consist of lighting features downwards from the top

Moon Lighting

Used to simulate moon light by placing lamps above trees, walls, etc

Path Lighting

Used for lighting driveways, sidewalks, walkways to create paths of light

RGB Lighting Accenting

Used to bring full color range and create unique moods and styles

Wall-Washing

Used for highlighting walls with varying flood patterns

This technique is used for lighting up stairs, or platforms for night enjoyment

Silhouetting

This technique is used for creating silhouttes of greenery like trees, bushes, etc.

Color Temperature (KELVINS)

Kelvins is a measurement used to describe the color temperature of a light source. This is the specification commonly referred to as CCT Color Correlated Temperature. It's a gauge of how yellow or blue a white light source appears to the human eye. Landscape lighting scale is typically from 2500K up to 5700K that a description of the warmth or coolness of a light source.

The landscape industry has landed on 2700K as standard Warm White, 300K as standard for Neutral White, and 5000K as Cool White.

WARM WHITE

At the lower end of the scale, from 2000K to 3000K, the light produced is called "warm white" and ranged from orange to yellow white in appearance.

CRI Color Rendering Index

NEUTRAL WHITE

Color temperatures between 3100K and 4500K are referred to as "neutral white" or "bright white" lamps within this range will emmit more neutral white light and may even have a slightly blue tint.

Another part of color temperature is CRI Color Rendering Index. It is a measurement between 0 and 100. At zero (0), all colors look the same. A CRI of 100 shows the true color of an object. Incandescent is the standard all light CRI's are measured against. They are at 100. Typically a CRI of 80 to 90 are regarded as good and those with a CRI oof 90+ are excellent. General rule is the higher the CRI, the better the color rendering.

Watts

Watts are a measurement of power consumption. With traditional incandescent lights typically the higher the wattage, the brighter the light. With LED lamps this is different because there is no hard fast rule to correlate wattage with output. One brand LED say 9W may emit enough Lumens to replace a 60W bulb, but another brand may need to use a less efficient LED, say 12W lamp to create enough lumens. In fact, that is why looking at Lumens versus Watts.

Lumens

Lumens is a measurement of total light output also known as the brightness of the bulb. More lumens means a brighter light, fewer lumens means a dimmer light.

Lumens are to light what:

Pounds are the bananas, Gallons are to milk

Lumens let you buy the amount of light you want.

When considering new bulbs, think lumens not watts.

COOL WHITE

Above 4500K brings us daylight color temperature of light. Lamps with 4500K and above will give off blue-white light that mimics daylight.

100w Halogen is 1600 lumens, equal to a 10w LED bulb

50w Halogen is 800 lumens, equal to a 7w LED bulb

25w Halogen is 400 lumens, equal to a 5w LED bulb

20w Halogen is 320 lumens, equal to a 4w LED bulb

10w Halogen is 160 lumens, equal to a 2w LED bulb

Wire Size

Wire gauge refers to the physical size of the wire, rated with a numerical designation that runs opposite to the diameter of the conductors. The smaller the wire gauge, the larger the designated number.

In the gauges of wire, a gauge number describes the number of dies through which the wire has been pulled in order to reduce it down to a given diameter.

Spotlights vs Floodlights

Spotlights feature a shorter beam spread with longer light reach. Generally, these are used for accenting features in smaller areas like trees, statues, flag poles, etc.

Accents specific features like trees and statues. The narrow angle help concentrate light to a specific area.

The construction of our Displays is strong and durable. The fiberglass material is made so the pieces can be used indoors or outdoors. Many of our larger pieces assemble and disassemble with ease making for convenient set up and storage.

Our Displays are painted with an UV automotive grade paint. This is another feature that allows these pieces to stand up to outdoor weather. The paint is vibrant and fade and chip resistant. Attention to detail is important in the design of these figures.

They are the perfect addition to a home or business, full of lights. They bring the glow and warmth we all love around the holidays.

The original designs of the illuminated collection are made out of heavy duty fiberglass, UV coated and can be used both indoors and outdoors. They look great underneath your tree or in a grouping on your lawn.

The interior contains standard LED mini lights. This makes for easy plug-and-go installation and also allows for the lights to be easily replaced as needed, bringing you years of enjoyment.

Under this warranty and any warranty implied by state law is limited solely to the replacement of products which BARCANA, INC. determines are defective, and does not include liability for incidental or consequential damages. This warranty is expressly in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including the warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. Any warranty implied under state law is limited to a period of twenty-five (25) years from the date of purchase for PVC trees. Some states do not allow the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages nor a limitation on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations may not apply to you.

If any BARCANA, INC. product is found defective pleas e notify BARCANA, INC., by mail, e-mail or phone. Please provide the following when contacting BARCANA, INC.: tree style #, copy of original sales receipt, description of the defect and photos of the defect. BARCANA, INC. will repair or replace any BARCANA, INC. product if BARCANA, INC. determines that the defect existed at the time of manufacture or developed under normal use. Freight charges for products considered to be defective are the sole responsibility of the consumer. An RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) is required for any return prior to shipping to BARCANA, INC. This warranty is enforceable by the original purchaser of the BARCANA, INC. product from an authorized retail store.

LIGHT SETS

All BARCANA, INC. lights are listed with the Underwriters Laboratory BARCANA, INC. will supply replacement light sets for defective sets free of charge (with proof of purchase) for up to 6 seasons from original date of purchase on LED lights and 3 seasons on incandescent lights.

This warranty excludes:

• Normal bulb burnout. Change burned out bulbs at once. If burned out bulbs are not replaced, the remaining bulbs on the light strand will burn our faster than normal.

• Wear and tear or damage resulting from accident.

• Misuse that can cause multiple-bulb failure.

• Freight charges on light sets are the sole responsibility of the customer.

• Lights damage as a result of outdoor usage.

• Alteration (i.e. dimmers, timers, electronic ornaments)

Nite Time Decor

NTD LIMITED TIME WARRANTY

Nite Time Decor guarantees the quality of our products and installation with one of the most comprehensive warranties in the industry. It protects the system and components for years and is effective after the original installation is completed.

TRANSFORMER WARRANTY

Nite Time Decor outdoor transformers carry a lifetime warranty. The warranty DOES NOT cover acts of nature, such as lightning strikes and damage due to physical abuse or vandalism. The warranty is void if anyone other than a Nite Time Decor contractor accesses the transformer for any reason other than timer adjustment. We will make timely replacements and/or repairs as described below at no additional charge.

LIGHT FIXTURE WARRANTY

Nite Time Decor guarantees light fixtures for Lifetime from installation date. The warranty DOES NOT cover acts of nature, such as lightning strikes and damage due to physical abuse or vandalism. In the event of socket failure, Nite Time Decor will provide replacement sockets, with local service location, and if available, provide labor for replacement.

WIRE WARRANTY

Nite Time Decor outdoor low-voltage wire is covered by a 10-year warranty. The warranty DOES NOT cover acts of nature, such as lightning strikes and damage due to physical abuse, vandalism or damage done by others.

LAMP WARRANTY

Nite Time Decor lamps are covered by a 7-year limited warranty from the initial date of system installation. Only when a Nite Time Decor contractor replaces or installs the lamps does the warranty apply. The installation of incorrect lamps by the property owner or another firm that causes system failure and/or fixture damage are not covered by warranty.

LIGHTING CONTROL AUTOMATION WARRANTY

Nite Time Decor timers, controls, and other automation modules carry a 1-year limited warranty.

INSTALLATION WARRANTY

Nite Time Decor guarantees installation for three (3) years from installation date. We offer a Lifetime Warranty on any lighting system that we design, install and maintain. If you choose not to maintain your lighting system with our current maintenance program, your system will be covered only to the limits listed above, or the limits of the individual manufacturer’s warranty of the products used in the design. This warranty covers the performance of the Fixtures, Transformer and Installation. All quality fixtures will experience some finish changes over time. This will not affect their performance, rather increases their appeal. All automation components are covered by their specific manufacturer’s warranty.
