ACTIVITIES & EVENTS Enjoy the arts and develop connections, curiosity, skills and creativity. FAMILIES

LOOK-THINK-MAKE Sundays 9 July, 6 August 2 – 4pm Suitable for all ages Children must be accompanied by an adult FREE, suggested donation £2 per person

This exhibition takes you on a mini safari throughout the Pavilion where, interspersed by the artist’s own works, you will see objects from Bexhill and Hastings museums. These include artefacts collected by writer and traveller Annie Brassey, alongside objects such as those relating to the notorious Piltdown Man, Grey Owl and the Hastings Rarities: reflecting Patterson’s fascination with myth over matter and fiction over truth, whether in art, history, science, politics or the internet.

AUDIO FILES Personal responses to specific artworks recorded by Year 7 pupils from St Richard’s Catholic College are available to listen to in the exhibition and online: dlwp.com/soundcloud

Fun-filled creative sessions led by storytellers and performers.

HIRE US TOOTS & THE MAYTALS

Mass-produced postcards now seem out of time in our era of high-speed communication. This exhibition presents over 100 collages formed from found postcards sent between 1960 and 1980. To make the collages, Voss cuts out a single word taken from the message written on the back of the postcard, and re-inserts it into the image on the front. Combined, the word and the image form a short, open narrative.

Open every day 10am – 5.30pm Breakfast 10 – 11.30am Lunch 12 – 3pm

TALES FOR TODDLERS

Travel, collections and classifications are motifs throughout Safari, alongside other ways to make sense of the world such as maps, codes and routines. Patterson manipulates these mechanisms, shifting our perceptions as a result. In partnership with Bexhill Museum, Hastings Museum and Bexhill Sailing Club

Tuesday 1, Wednesday 2 Thursday 3 August 10am – 5pm For ages 11 – 19 years FREE £30 booking fee fully refundable on completion of course

Drop-in family friendly sessions. Explore and unravel ideas found in the galleries.

SAFARI PARTY

The word ‘safari’ originates from the Arabic word safar, translated as ‘trek’. For Simon Patterson, this word also relates to the voyage that the mind takes when it makes unlikely connections.
