Flights are available into Lyon or Limoges with overnight coach journeys available south from Calais. The city is the home of Michelin, the commercial giant of the region and main sponsors of the Clermont team. More than football, rugby is a passion here and the Michelin stadium is a famous symbol of the club. This is volcano territory and the city itself owes much to the black volcanic rock of the terrain which helped to

construct most of the historic buildings including the impressive Notre Dame cathedral. The ʻPuy de Domeʼ extinct volcanic mountain forms a backdrop to the city and when you are not immersed in rugby, you can always learn more at the Vulcania exhibition centre. Itʼs easy to get around on the tramways in the city and there will be time for swimming and sightseeing.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION There are many key ingredients to your sports tour and choosing your preferred destination from the previous pages is naturally an important decision. Simply call us at your convenience to discuss your tour plans and ideas or to ask for some friendly advice. Weʼll be happy to send you a copy of our ʻBooking Guidelines and Pricesʼ or a tailor-made proposal on request. While the specific package inclusions will be outlined in your individual ʻTour Proposalʼ, some of the common elements and important information is highlighted here below.

ACCOMMODATION CATEGORIES & MEAL PLANS: We have a varied selection of accommodations on offer throughout the brochure, all of which have been visited by STI staff or our representatives and checked for their suitability for our groups. These include hotels, training centres, hostels and holiday villages in many different destinations. Most bedrooms are en-suite although some units may have shared washroom or toilet facilities along the corridor. As local accommodation classifications vary in different countries, please read the descriptions carefully or ask us for further details before deciding whether a particular destination is right for you and your group. Our packages are usually based on a half board basis, although a range of meal plans are available on request. Subject to confirmation this means that you will receive breakfast and dinner daily at your accommodation, with a packed lunch often available at a supplement. SECURITY DEPOSITS: Some accommodation managers require a security deposit to be paid directly on arrival, returnable at the end of the stay less any amount that may have been held back to cover any damages caused. Occasionally, we may impose a security deposit in advance should this be necessary to satisfy suppliers, refundable on return from tour should nothing be withheld to compensate for damages.

TRAVEL COACH: Your travel arrangements are an important part of your tour, and it is our belief that you should travel in comfort and safety. Unlike some operators, an executive coach is included free of charge in your tour price, for door to door travel throughout the tour. Your coach will typically be equipped with seatbelts, reclining seats, video (or DVD), stereo, air circulation system, microphone, toilet and drinks machine. Coach capacities vary from 49–83 seats. Tour drivers are also an important part of the tour, so you should find your drivers to be experienced, friendly and reliable. Many groups request the same drivers time and again. Where coach travel is provided by suppliers in overseas countries, we contract reputable local companies to handle all the necessary journeys including airport and excursion transfers as stipulated, but while they comply with local regulations, please bear in mind that these may be different to standards here in the UK. FERRY: We use the ferry services of P&O Ferries and SeaFrance from Dover to Calais (75–90 minutes) for most of our tour groups. With refurbished and improved vessels, you can eat and drink on board in comfort as you sail across to mainland Europe. We also use the fast and popular Eurotunnel service (35–40 minutes from Folkestone to Calais) although a supplement is sometimes required for groups wishing to use this service. Subject to availability, several other crossings may also be offered including Harwich–Hoek of Holland (Stena Line), Hull–Rotterdam (P&O ferries) and Newcastle–Amsterdam (DFDS). FLIGHTS: As ATOL holders (5675) we are delighted to be able to organise flight-inclusive packages to many of our favourite destinations in accordance with CAA regulations. We use a range of different airlines from major national carriers such as British Airways, Iberia and Alitalia to the no-frills airlines including Ryanair, Monarch, EasyJet and Jet 2. As well as a huge selection from London, there are an increasing number of possibilities from many regional airports around the UK. However, although we will always take into consideration your preferred departure airport or travel time, we cannot guarantee this and many bookings are accepted in advance of airline schedules and route confirmations being released. Please also bear in mind that there may be very little flexibility in booking seats with a number of these airlines. As such, any requests for passenger name changes after a booking has been received may well be subject to substantial amendment fees as imposed by the airlines and such conditions are outside of our control. Our packages do not allow for the carriage of extra sports

equipment which would need to be booked separately at a supplement. You will be advised of the weight restrictions imposed by your airline, and any surcharges that may be appropriate on confirmation of your flight details, on final payment.

SPORTS Each group is unique and so itʼs important that you choose the right tour to suit your budget, goals and ambition. Whichever tour destination and package you choose, youʼll need to get clearance from your governing body for permission to tour overseas.

travellers from the UK are entitled to receive free or reduced-cost medical care in many European countries on production of a valid EHIC card. Application forms are available at the Post Office or online at www.dh.gov.uk/travellers. Please also refer to the ʻHealth Advice for Travellersʼ booklet available from Post Offices for more information. Further details on travelling abroad can be obtained by visiting www.fco.gov.uk/travel which provides important information including health and safety issues on all the European and long haul destinations we feature.

FRIENDLY MATCHES: A typical standard European tour package will include the organisation of 2 x friendly matches per team travelling. Subject to your dates, destination and tour duration this may vary as appropriate. We will endeavour to organise fixtures as close to your age and ability range as possible but schools should bear in mind that age categories in countries overseas vary to those here in the UK and most games will be organised with local club teams. Further details on categories and local variations are available on request. In a number of our destinations you can combine more than one sport in your tour. Please see the individual tour pages for details and consider availability of sports and seasons before confirming a booking.

RISK ASSESSMENTS & INSPECTION VISITS: We have a safety management system in place in order to ensure the best practice operational standards are maintained. We are happy to forward risk assessments for the tours and accommodations that you book and can help with the completion of LEA documentation as required on your behalf. You should also read the brochure in conjunction with the ʻBooking Guidelines and Pricesʼ document which provides important additional information and the booking terms and conditions. We also strongly recommend that you make an inspection visit well in advance of your tour in order to fully satisfy these requirements and benefit from a local orientation. Please ask for details of our free or subsidised inspection trips for staff.

TOURNAMENTS: These vary in size from huge international competitions to local club events. All are governed by their own rules and regulations and are not owned or organised by STI unless specifically stated. Detailed information about each event is available on request. Most are open tournaments meaning that they accept bookings from school and typically club teams of all ability levels and as such we have no influence over the level of competition, tournament structure or facilities. They represent a fantastic opportunity to play abroad and many offer the opportunity to compete with teams from all corners of the World!

STI REPS: You will be welcomed in the resort by one of our representatives on or soon after your arrival. You will also be given a local emergency contact number for English speaking assistance during your stay as well as the back up of our office duty manager back here in the UK. Our collective aim is to make your tour a hassle-free experience from start to finish. A full time tour escort dedicated to your group alone, is not included in your tour package but may be added at a supplement if requested. The STI festival packages as outlined earlier, are staffed by a team of STI reps for your added peace of mind and event management.

STI FESTIVALS: We organise a number of school multi-sport festivals including the popular SportsParty for Schools events in Spain and the Easter package with Center Parcs. These typically include guest coaching sessions from qualified staff, tournament matches with other British schools, organised evening parties and a selection of recommended excursions. A team of STI staff and representatives are on hand to manage the events and help make the most of your time on tour. Matches with foreign teams are not normally included in these tours.

EXCURSIONS: We are happy to work with you to build up a programme of activities during your tour. These may include excursions to theme parks, swimming pools, stadium visits, museums and places of educational and cultural interest. These can often be pre-reserved on your behalf and paid for in advance. Further local activities such as ten pin bowling, karaoke and discos will be available in some resorts. Tickets to sports matches such as football at the Amsterdam Arena or Nou Camp stadium can often be purchased in advance too, should scheduling allow.

PRO COACHING: A number of professional clubs are featured in our brochure. All are correctly listed at the time of going to print, although as contracts change, there may be additions and amendments at any stage. Coaching at a professional club is a superb opportunity for school teams to learn from the very best in your chosen sport. Programmes vary from club to club as to the exact inclusions within your package although some may be tailor-made to meet more specific requirements. The coaching staff work either for the club shown or are specifically approved by the club and all have a recognised National Governing body qualification. They do not work for STI. Venues used are owned, operated or contracted by the club and not by STI. As such the delivery of any sessions is determined by the coaches and access to facilities and venues is at the discretion of the club on each occasion. Individual ad hoc coaching sessions with professional staff are also possible at many of our featured destinations at a supplement on request. TRAINING CENTRES: Enjoyed by professional clubs and Academies alike, now you too can train at leading facilities at home and abroad. As well as an organised friendly match per team on tour, we will also typically include 2 x 90 minute field time allocations for your own training for each night booked. Professional coaching is not included in these packages. Access to additional facilities including gymnasiums and sports hall may require a supplement to be paid.

GENERAL NOTES HEALTH & SAFETY: You should seek medical advice if you are in any doubt about your fitness to travel and participate in the activities on the trip. For those travelling to overseas destinations, it is the responsibility of participants, to contact their doctor in advance should they deem relevant. Travellers from the UK touring to Europe should travel with an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) – the replacement for the E111. Eligible

PASSPORTS, DOCUMENTATION & PHOTOS: You will be required to send us various details and documentation in the booking process and between booking and departure and your prompt attention to these is vital to ensuring the smooth running of your trip. A full list of names and dates of birth should also be supplied on school letterhead. A set of individual passport sized photos is also recommended. Furthermore, in signing the booking form you are also agreeing to our terms and conditions with reference to the conduct of your group, including but not limited to damages and behaviour. TRAVEL INSURANCE: It is vital that everyone in your group travels with adequate cover and it is a condition of booking that this is in place. The full terms, conditions, and exclusions are incorporated within the certificate. Brief details are shown in our ʻBooking Guidelines & Pricesʼ document, and you can see a full copy of the policy in advance if you wish.
