During 2012, we continued to work hard with our tenant teams the Oshawa Generals, the Oshawa Power and the Durham TurfDogs to grow each of their products within our market. We have enjoyed empowering and productive working relationships with all of our teams and their personnel, and look forward to continuing to grow and work together collectively in the future.
We continue to use capital resources to enhance the facility and/or improve our ability to service our clients. Major projects this season included but were not limited to resurfacing of the concourses, replacing the chairs in lower Prospects, acquiring additional stage parts, additional stanchions replacement tempered glass and plexi glass, upgrading our event radios, and repairs to hot water supplies and Prospects’ slider windows. We have had steady success in being able to reduce the GM Centre’s operating shortfalls each year and we are confident that we can continue this positive trend in the coming years. Our overall vision and goal is to continue to strive for continued growth in revenues while maintaining cost effective, first class services and operations; and to one day operate in at the very least a cost neutral position. Thank you once again for your continued trust and support. Sincerely, Vince Vella General Manager

Vince, Congratulations on another successful year! The General Motors Centre continues to grow and mature in the entertainment industry. Industry publications have identified the GM Centre as a world-class venue. Worldwide
The GM Centre hosted a quality mix of events in 2012 including concerts such as John Fogerty, Marianas Trench, and Hedley as well as family shows including Cirque du Soleil, Riverdance, Harlem Globetrotters, and Superdogs. The GM Centre also remained the home of the Oshawa Generals Hockey Club, Oshawa Power Basketball and the Durham TurfDogs Lacrosse team. The City is looking forward to another exciting lineup in 2013. It is encouraging to observe the steadily improving financial operations of the GM Centre. The improvements are not only due to the number of quality events but also the effective financial management of the facility. New efficiencies introduced in 2012 will continue to drive the financial results in a positive direction. Specific initiatives include the establishment of an in-house housekeeping team and the zero waste to landfill program. The elimination of the external cleaning expenses will save approximately $30,000 annually. The zero waste to landfill program generates a small revenue stream and promotes environmental awareness. These progressive results are a product of the dedication and commitment to client satisfaction of Global Spectrum’s strong professional team. Sincerely,
Stephanie Sinnott, CGA Manager, Financial Reporting and Planning

From the very first meeting we had with Vince and Jason we knew they were truly a partner that PepsiCo Beverages Canada wanted to do business with. The Global Spectrum Group is widely known as a partner for growth and we are happy to be on that journey in Oshawa. Their professionalism is outstanding and our Pepsi associates have had nothing but great interactions. Partnering for growth and delivering growth are the keys to a great relationship ... we look forward to a long and sustainable future with Vince and his team.
From day one when we approached the General Motors Centre and the Global Spectrum group they have been first class from top to bottom. The professionalism of Vince Vella and all the Global Spectrum staff has been second to none, their vision to assist in our long term growth should only mean success for our Durham TurfDogs franchise that calls GM Centre home, thank you Vince and Global Spectrum!
What a pleasure to work with the General Motors Centre and the Global Spectrum team. As tour promoters, we had our first experience this past year to visit the GM Centre and we certainly appreciated the level of expertise and professionalism they exhibited in hosting our concert event – from the moment of routing and venue booking, to the announcement and the ticketing on-sale, to the sustaining marketing support to the actual day of execution – the GM Centre and Global Spectrum were truly great partners in presenting John Mellencamp in Oshawa. We will not hesitate to return with other projects.

There have been some excellent acts come to the GM Centre recently Elton John, Johnny Reid, John Mellencamp, Burton Cummins and others which we have thoroughly enjoyed. We (over 60) hope you will be able to continue providing us with such great talent. It is SO MUCH NICER to see and hear the artist here (GM Centre) than in a stadium or NHL hockey rink where there is a dot on the stage and you can’t hear anything for all of the noise around you. Keep up the good work and we are looking forward to the next concert. (We really hope to see Johnny Reid here again) - Gail W. I love going to concerts at the GM Centre!!! I am very impressed with the level of talent you have secured keep up the great work! - Kirsten S.

How You Doin ?

How YOU doin’? is a customer service philosophy adopted by all Global Spectrum Facilities. We are committed to ensuring our fans have a tremendous experience while visiting the General Motors Centre. In order to provide such impeccable customer service, we have implemented a staff incentive program; rewarding our employees for going above and beyond their regular job duties for the fan! Customers and venue management are welcomed to present a staff member with a HYD card when he or she represents the How YOU Doin’? philosophy. The cards are collected by the venue’s HYD Committee, and are used during monthly, quarterly, and annual prize draws. At the end of each season, all part-time and full-time staff are invited to a summer barbeque to celebrate the hard work they’ve done throughout the past season.

Homecoming Weekend is a rich tradition with universities, including the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). This was UOIT’s third Homecoming celebration and we are pleased to report that a record number of alumni, students and guests attended the weekend’s activities.
Thank you for donating the four pairs of tickets to the various events at the General Motors Centre which we awarded to many enthusiastic Homecoming participants. It is this type of activity that adds value to the Homecoming experience and we can assure you, the tickets were very much appreciated by the individuals who won them. Positive feedback is a rich reward for the many hours put into this event. We are motivated by this and are ready to continue building Homecoming Weekend in stride with UOIT’s tremendous growth. We consider ourselves fortunate to have you actively engage in Advancement activities and the alumni community and look forward to sharing next year’s Homecoming plans with you. Thank you for your donation to the Bright Night, Big Dreams silent auction in support of The Sunshine Foundation of Canada. The tickets to Cesar Millan that you donated ensured that the silent auction was a special and exciting part of a successful evening. The event not only raised thousands of dollars, but also awareness of The Sunshine Foundation in the London community. Through this gift, you are not only helping to make dreams come true but you also bring freedom, empowerment, and joy to children who struggle daily with severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses. You have given them the opportunity to experience the carefree, happy joys of just being a kid. Children like Tyler whose Dad wrote in a note: “As a parent my biggest hope for Tyler is that he will grow up with the self-confidence, independence, and self-worth to handle any obstacles that he may face. Sunshine Dreams for Kids has been such a major stepping stone in setting Tyler in that direction.”
Sunshine has fulfilled more than 7,000 dreams for children across Canada. Donations like yours allow us to
Since its inception in 1987,
move towards our dream of making dreams come true for every child in Canada living with a severe physical disability or life-threatening illness. On behalf of Sunshine Kids and their families across Canada, please accept our sincere thanks for the contributions you have made. Together we are making a difference! Sincerely, Nancy Sutherland National Executive Director

Dear Vince,

Building a wonderful city takes courage, creativity and a keen sense for the cultural aspects of the world that enrich life for all. A: the 2012 Oshawa Mayor’s Gala supporting Ontario Philharmonic, Moonlight Serenade, on September 21st at the Tosca Banquet & Conference Centre, it was proven again that world-class culture thrives in the hearts of Oshawa and Durham Region communities.
Thank you for your contribution to SickKids and to children’s health. Your generosity enables us to continue treating some of the most challenging medical cases in the world. By partnering with us at the forefront of children’s health care, you are giving parents hope, and giving kids the opportunity to live their lives to the fullest.
As Mayor of Oshawa and Chair of Ontario Philharmonic, we take great delight in personally thanking you for joining us in supporting this outstanding community asset, of which we are most proud. Oshawa’s very own Ontario Philharmonic (OP) is its 56th season. Under the exceptional direction of Marco Parisotto, OP has achieved great accolades from Canada’s most notable classical music critics. No small feat.
Your support enables SickKids to pursuer pioneering scientific and clinical advancements in paediatric health care. Millions of children have benefited from our specialized expertise in healing, our focus on learning, and our commitment to investigative breakthroughs. Rich possibilities in kids’ health care await discovery. With your help, we will achieve our vision: Healthier Children. A Better World.
In true form, OP thrilled an enthusiastic gala audience with its immense individual and collective talent, while supporting an outlying community of soon-to-be-professional musicians. Once again Michael Burgess demonstrates his commitment to OP with his stirring performances. Pavlo travelled 1,500 miles to perform in support of OP. Generous, unwavering support from within the music profession can only be earned. This concert season, the three international stars sharing the stage with OP demonstrates that Oshawa and Durham Region have the capacity to provide the best symphony music experience in Canada’s most densely populated area. Vince Vella, General Manager, your significant contribution to the continued development of Ontario Philharmonic through the gala is immeasurable. We cannot thank you enough for your generous auction item helping raise over $68,000 to continue delivering exceptional classical music performances in our community.
With gratitude, Ted Garrard President and CEO SickKids Foundation
With your help, we will achieve our vision: Healthier Children. A Better World.
We invite you to continue building cultural capacity through this annual celebration during the 2013 Oshawa Mayor’s Gala supporting Ontario Philharmonic in September 2013. Yours truly, John Henry Mayor Sincerely yours, Charles Morison Chair Board of Directors Ontario Philharmonic

Dear General Motors Centre,
Nov. 2012
On behalf of the Board of Directors and members of the Durham Region Associations of REALTORS®, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous donation towards our Christmas Charity Auction. Over 126 items were donated from all across Durham, helping to make this year’s Charity Auction a huge success.
The Christmas Season is a time of year when you are most likely approached by many different agencies seeking donations. This makes us all the more grateful to you for supporting us in our fundraising effort for the Grandview Children’s Centre and Distress Centre Durham, because of the wonderful response from various local businesses, we will be able to present a cheque to them in excess of $11,000.00. As an extra expression of gratitude, your name was displayed on a specially designed program, which was placed at every dinner setting during our Christmas Dinner Meeting, and your name will also be published in our December DRAR Bulletin and circulated to all of our 1000+ Members. Once again, thank you very much for your generous donation. The Charity Auction would not have been the success it was without your individual contribution. We hope you will consider donating again next year when a committee member contacts you. Please enjoy all the love and happiness of the Holiday Season and may you and yours have good health and prosperity in the coming year. Yours sincerely, B.Cail Maclean Executive Officer Durham Region Association of Realtors®

Capital Improvements
During the 2012 season, the following capital and/or general replacements occurred.
$11,000 Staging
$1,800 Pipe and drape
$9,000 Glass/plexi and rink board parts
$20,500 resurface the concourses
$11,000 New chairs for Prospects
$11,275 IT/Voice & sound upgrades

$3,200 black out blinds
$5,300 New radios
$11,500 miscellaneous repairs and maintenance
Additional staging was purchased and added to inventory to expand the capabilities for the ever-expanding events we host.
Prospects Bar & Grill received new chairs for the lower restaurant to provide patrons a comfortable seating during their meal. The new chairs also create a warmer atmosphere in the restaurant.
Prospects Bar & Grill had the lower restaurant sliding windows repaired. Due to the continuous opening and closing motions pre and post events, several of the windows began faltering. With the windows properly sliding, fans can better enjoy concerts or sporting events when they reserve a table at the restaurant.
New radios were purchased to guarantee management and staff can effectively communicate during events.
Additional linear feet of pipe and drape was purchased and added to inventory to expand the capabilities of the venue for setup and masking.
Due to the hundreds of thousands of fans treading through the venue, the concourse floor required some attention and was resurfaced to look as good as new.
We continue to work towards upgrading our IT infrastructure in order to stay on pace with the building’s growth.
Prospects Bar & Grill received new blinds for the upper restaurant which allows the windows facing inside the bowl to be blacked-out during concerts and special events. This assists in creating an atmosphere during performances, which numerous promoters and agents not only appreciate, but request.
