INTRODUCTION Amazon has launched Echo Dot Kids Edition. I don’t know how to react to this because back in the day, I was not willing to let my child access Alexa, but now, Amazon has launched a device for kids, so I’m just wondering what impact it will have on my child. The first thing that I wanted to do on Echo Dot is set up parental controls because I don’t want Alexa to teach anything bad to my kid. There are kid-friendly options available on the device as well, which if anybody is looking to get on regular Echo devices, then he/she will have to pay $3 per month per kid or $7 per month per family. But, that price is for Prime members, so if someone is not a Prime member, then the price is $5 and $10 respectively. The name of the feature is ‘FreeTime’ and it can be easily accessed on regular Amazon Echo devices.

Alexa in Echo Dot for kids is different from vanilla Alexa. In this device, the Alexa is a lot friendlier and gives cheery responses.

But, there is always a sword hanging on the head, therefore, it is important to pay attention to what your child is listening to.

PARENT DASHBOARD I have found a parent dashboard in Echo Dot Kids’ Edition. I have kept myself as the primary account holder, which gives me the freedom to add anyone to the dashboard. It is possible to set up the device to respond to you during certain hours so that children can’t try and interact with Alexa.

SUPPORT FOR AMAZON ECHO I can track anything that my kid does on the device, so if I think he is using the device more than the assigned limit, then I can easily intervene.

But, I haven’t found any indication that Alexa is asking any personal information from my kid, or the result that is provided by Alexa is influenced by the information it has regarding my kid. I think Amazon Echo Dot Kids’ Edition is a decent device, which if you want to buy for you child, then you can buy it without thinking too much.
