A CHANCE TO REPEAT HISTORY

Ten years ago, guard John Gilchrist led an underdog Terps team on a historic run for the program’s first ACC tournament championship since 1984. This week, in their final conference tournament, the Terps have a similar chance to leave a lasting mark on the league.

trophy in the shape of a glass pentagon with a wooden strip down the middle sat on a table on the concourse of Comcast Center on Sunday with a piece of a basketball net draped around it. Several fans taking in the atmosphere before the Terrapins men’s basketball team’s final ACC regular-season game — an eventual 75-69 overtime win over then-No. 5 Virginia — strolled to the rope blocking off the table and

snapped pictures of the trophy. Others pointed and remarked on the scene to those around them. The trophy and net likely evoked memories in those who marveled at the memento, memories of what took place in Greensboro, N.C., 10 years ago.
