The Dock Summer Sessions continue with a concert of The Old Time Music of the Appalachian Mountains. Join Cormac McDiarmada (Lankum) on fiddle, Ruth Clinton (Landless) on vocals, Fionuala Kennedy on banjo and Gerard McGranaghan on guitar for some foot stomping tunes.Â

Two of Ireland’s most lauded traditional musicians perform together for Music Network’s Live and Local series. Dermot Byrne’s seemingly effortless playing, combined with great subtlety and a faultless ear, makes him one of the finest accordion players of his generation. Australian native Steve Cooney is best known for his development of an influential style of guitar accompaniment to traditional Irish dance music in West Kerry. Maintaining his connections with the Aboriginal culture, into which he was initiated, Steve has ancestral links with Tipperary, Cavan and Galway.

A night of indie folk music with a little bit of a trad influence. We are delighted to welcome Kildare born and Dublin based singer Inni-K back to Carrick on Shannon. Inni-K (Eithne Ní Chatháin ) was named by RTÉ.ie as “one of ten fierce women defining Irish culture” A singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter she has received consistent praise for her fresh style of indie-folk since the 2015 release of her acclaimed album ‘The King has Two Horse’s Ears’.

Four of Leitrim’s finest musicians join us for a night of tunes and craic. Eleanor Shanley is one of Ireland’s foremost singers since her first appearance as the singer with traditional group De Danann. Pádraig McGovern was taught uilleann pipes by master piper P.J. Flood and developed his music as a member of the Ceolas Céili Band. A highly regarded tutor of the Uilleann Pipes, Pádraig has toured extensively. Dave Sheridan’s playing style has been described as “free flowing and fluid, with sound technique and solid driving rhythm”. He has recorded two highly acclaimed solo albums and has recorded with Dé Danann and Téada. John McCartin is both a guitar and fiddle player and has played with many noted bands including Lúnasa and Dervish.

This is string band music gutsy and sweet, driving and mellifluous. The Maude Belles draw their musical roots from old time American tradition, playing the Appalachian music that was born of Irish and Scottish traditional music, and was the predecessor of bluegrass music. Hailing from Cork, Dublin and Sligo, the Belles formed in 2019 from like-minded musicians who played together in informal settings for several years. Expect songs from the mountains, sweet vocal harmonies and stomping tunes that will make you smile at first; by the end you may well be dancing...

The last in our series of Summer Sessions at Market Yard features a group that has been uplifting audiences across the world. The High Seas bring a fresh collection of musical talent to the stage in their new show. The band skilfully weave together the colourful strands of Irish music, song and dance into a tapestry of tradition, giving a performance that is both playful and profound, ethereal and brooding. The trio is made up of acclaimed musicians Caitlín Nic Gabhann (concertina, dance), Ciarán Ó Maonaigh (fiddles) and Cathal Ó Curráin (vocals, bouzouki, fiddle).
