als ich 2022 als Cheftrainer von Fortuna Düsseldorf in die Rheinmetropole kam, wurde ich mit offenen Armen empfangen. Es fiel mir leicht, mich in der fremden Stadt einzuleben. Schnell lernte ich, dass die so oft angepriesenen Eigenschaften der Rheinländer – nämlich Offenheit, Toleranz und das Zugehen auf andere Menschen – keine Phrasen sind, sondern von vielen Düsseldorfer:innen in meinem Umfeld gelebt und zelebriert werden. EVERYBODY’S HEIMSPIEL – als offizielle Host City hätte Düsseldorf kein besseres Motto finden können und ich wünsche allen internationalen Besucher:innen der UEFA EURO 2024™, dass sie sich in dieser bunten und weltoffenen Stadt schnell zuhause fühlen. Die EURO 2024™ ist die einmalige Gelegenheit, Teil eines der größten Sportereignisse Europas zu sein. Umso mehr freue ich mich darüber, dass mein „Arbeitsplatz“, die Arena Düsseldorf, einer der Austragungsorte ist. Ich wünsche Euch und uns allen packende Matches, leidenschaftliche Spieler und Fans, eine unvergessliche Fußballatmosphäre und vor allem eins: ein friedliches und respektvolles Miteinander.

Dear visitors,

when I came to the Rhine metropolis as head coach of Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2022, I was welcomed with open arms. It was easy for me to settle into a city that was foreign to me. I quickly learnt that the often praised characteristics of the Rhinelanders – namely openness, tolerance and reaching out to other people – are not just empty phrases but are lived and celebrated by many Düsseldorfers in my environment. EVERYBODY’S HEIMSPIEL – as the official host city, Düsseldorf could not have found a better motto and I wish all international visitors to UEFA EURO 2024™ that they quickly feel at home in this colourful and cosmopolitan city. EURO 2024 is a unique opportunity to be part of one of the biggest sporting events in Europe. I am all the more delighted that my “workplace”, the Düsseldorf Arena, is one of the venues. I wish you and all of us thrilling matches, passionate players and fans, an unforgettable football atmosphere and above all: a peaceful and respectful sense of unity.

Not everything will take place on the pitch: UEFA EURO 2024™ will be accompanied by a varied supporting programme that combines sport and culture in a unique way. Celebrate in the Fan Zones with fans from all over Europe to music by top international acts, cheer on your team at the Public Viewing and be electrified by the rousing atmosphere throughout the city. Düsseldorf is turning into a colourful stage celebrating music, theatre and urban art. We’ll show you which highlights you shouldn’t miss!

Stimmung wie im Stadion – nur der Ausblick ist schöner: Beim Public Viewing Rheinufer in der Altstadt könnt Ihr alle Deutschland-Spiele und die Spiele in der Arena Düsseldorf live vor der unvergesslichen Kulisse der Düsseldorfer Skyline sehen – Sonnenuntergang inklusive. Eintritt frei!

A stadium-like atmosphere – only the view is better: at the Public Viewing Rheinufer in the Altstadt (Old Town), you can watch all matches of the German team and others taking place in the Düsseldorf Arena live against the unforgettable backdrop of the Düsseldorf skyline – sunset included. FAN ZONE SCHAUSPIELHAUS

Public Viewing, Konzerte und Interaktion: Am Architektur-Hot-Spot rund um den Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz befindet sich die Fan Zone Schauspielhaus. Zwischen dem begrünten Kö-Bogen II und Dreischeibenhaus können Fans an allen Tagen der UEFA EURO 2024™ Live-Fußballübertragungen und Kultur genießen. Das Ensemble des Schauspielhauses zeigt eine Theaterproduktion und die lokale Kulturszene bespielt die Fan Zone mit Musik und mehr. Highlight in den Abendstunden ist die illuminierte Fassade des Theaters, das 1969 von Bernhard Pfau fertiggestellt wurde.

Public viewing, concerts and interaction: the Schauspielhaus Fan Zone is located at the architectural hotspot around Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz.

Between the green Kö-Bogen II and Dreischeibenhaus, fans can enjoy live football broadcasts and culture on all days of UEFA EURO 2024™. The Schauspielhaus ensemble will present a theatre production and the local cultural scene will provide the Fan Zone with music and more. The highlight in the evening is the illuminated façade of the theatre, which was completed in 1969 by Bernhard Pfau.

GLAUBE, LIEBE, FUSSBALL

„Glaube, Liebe, Fußball“ ist das Theater-Fan-Spektakel auf der Bühne vor dem Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. Die Inszenierung vereint das Beste aus der Welt des Theaters und des Fußballs: starke Charaktere, große Gefühle, überraschende Wendungen, Drama und Leidenschaft. Alle 19 Termine vom 24. Mai bis 13. “Faith, Love, Football” is the theatre fan event on the stage in front of the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. The production combines the best of the worlds of theatre and football: strong characters, great emotions, surprising twists and turns, drama and passion. An zehn Tagen im Juni und Juli verwandelt sich die Outdoor-Location PING am Theatermuseum zum Place-to-be für Musik- und Fußballfans. Während der EURO 2024 präsentieren sich an 24 Tagen alle 24 qualifizierten Nationen am Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz mit eigenen Veranstaltungen und zeigen die Diversität Europas in Tanz, Kunst, Literatur, Sport und Kulinarik. An Spieltagen in Düsseldorf finden keine Veranstaltungen im Stadion der Träume statt.

During EURO 2024, all 24 qualified nations will be presenting their own events at Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz over 24 days, showcasing Europe΄s diversity in dance, art, literature, sport and cuisine. There will be no events in the Stadium of Dreams on match days in Düsseldorf.

11 WALLS | 11 GOALS STREET

Zur UEFA EURO 2024™ gestalten elf internationale Street Artists elf Murals auf großflächigen Wänden in den zehn gastgebenden Städten in dem Projekt 11 Walls | 11 Goals – natürlich auch in Düsseldorf! We asked the three official UEFA EURO 2024™ ambassadors for Düsseldorf, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, Sandra Mikolaschek and Selin Oruz, about their favourite places in the city and what they are looking forward to during UEFA EURO 2024™.

MAKE DÜSSELDORF YOUR HEIMSPIEL

Martina Voss-Tecklenburg mit einem Wort zu beschreiben, ist nicht einfach. Die ehemalige Bundestrainerin der deutschen Nationalmannschaft der Frauen bezeichnet sich selbst als ausgebildete Fußball-Lehrerin, TV-Expertin, Speakerin, Botschafterin und absoluten Familienmensch. Eines ist klar: Voss-Tecklenburg ist seit jeher mit dem Fußball und der Host City Düsseldorf eng verbunden. Obwohl sie nicht in der Stadt lebt, ist sie als Aufsichtsrätin des Zweitliga-Vereins Fortuna Düsseldorf oft hier – geht ins Kino, essen, einkaufen oder besucht kulturelle Veranstaltungen und Freunde.

It is not easy to describe Martina Voss-Tecklenburg in one word. The former coach of the German women’s national team describes herself as a trained football coach, TV expert, speaker, ambassador and absolute family person. One thing is clear: Voss-Tecklenburg has always been closely associated with football and the host city of Düsseldorf. Although she does not live in the city, she is often here as a member of the supervisory board of the second division club Fortuna Düsseldorf – and enjoys going to the cinema, eating out, shopping or visiting cultural events and friends.

MVT I’m looking forward to the football matches, but even more to the international crowd and the atmosphere that goes with it.

MVT Winning the first European Championship with Germany in 1989!

MVT Hopefully live in the stadium or as a TV pundit. We’ll see!

MVT Everyone is welcome to the most beautiful city on the Rhine!

Sandra Mikolaschek kam 2013 nach Düsseldorf, um am Deutschen Tischtennis-Internat zu trainieren und gleichzeitig ihr Abitur zu erwerben. Gemeinsam mit ihrer Mannschaft von Borussia Düsseldorf ist sie heute mehrfache Deutsche Meisterin im Einzel und Doppel im Rollstuhl-Tischtennis. Bei den Paralympics Games 2024 in Paris wird Sandra die deutsche Mannschaft bereits zum dritten Mal bei einer Paraolympiade vertreten.

Sandra Mikolaschek came to Düsseldorf in 2013 to train at the German Table Tennis Boarding School whilst also studying for her A-levels. Together with her team from Borussia Düsseldorf, she is now a multiple German champion in singles and doubles in wheelchair table tennis. At the 2024 Paralympics Games in Paris, Sandra will be representing the German team at a Paralympic Games for the third time.

SM Als Sportlerin freue ich mich am meisten auf die Wettkämpfe und ich hoffe, dass alle Menschen, egal ob Fußballfan oder nicht, zusammen feiern und Spaß haben werden.

SM Mein schönstes Fußballerlebnis war das Finale der WM 2014. Den Moment, als das Tor fiel, vergisst man nie.

SM What I love most about Düsseldorf is the openness and friendliness of the people.

SM The Rhine embankment promenade, the Japanese Garden and Burgplatz.

What are you most looking forward to at the UEFA EURO 2024™?

SM As a sportswoman, I’m most looking forward to the competitions and I hope that everyone, whether football fan or not, will celebrate together and have fun.

What was your favourite football experience?

SM My favourite football experience was the final of the 2014 World Cup. That moment the ball hit the back of the net is simply unforgettable.

How will you greet the international visitors to the UEFA EURO 2024™?

SM A warm welcome to our city. We Düsseldorfers will do everything we can to make the UEFA EURO 2024™ a great football festival for everyone.

SELIN ORUZ

Hockey-Nationalspielerin/National Hockey Player

Selin Oruz spielt seit 23 Jahren Hockey, ist seit 2013 Hockey-Nationalspielerin in Diensten des Düsseldorf Hockey Clubs 1905 e.V., Deutsche Meisterin und mit der Teilnahme an der Olympiade 2024 in Paris dreifache Olympionikin. Ganz nebenbei ist Selin frisch promovierte Ärztin und arbeitet derzeit an ihrer Weiterbildung zur Fachärztin für Kinderheilkunde. 2016, direkt nach ihren ersten Olympischen Spielen, zog die gebürtige Krefelderin endgültig nach Düsseldorf um.

Selin Oruz has been playing hockey for 23 years and since 2013 she is on the national team for Düsseldorf Hockey Club 1905 e.v. She is also a German champion and, including the 2024 Olympics in Paris, a threetime Olympian. Selin is also a newly qualified doctor and currently studies to become a paediatric consultant. She moved to Düsseldorf from Krefeld in 2016, straight after her first Olympic Games.

Was liebst du am meisten an Düsseldorf?

SO Auf das Zusammentreffen von Menschen aus unterschiedlichen Bereichen, die die UEFA EURO 2024™ zusammenbringt und dann auch verbindet. Ich freue mich auf den Austausch und gemeinsames Mitfiebern und Genießen.

Wie, wo und mit wem wirst du die Spiele schauen und wem drückst du die Daumen?

SO Ich werde mich selbst in der direkten Olympiavorbereitung befinden, daher hoffe ich natürlich, so viele Spiele wie möglich sehen zu können. Ich halte natürlich mit der deutschen Nationalmannschaft.

SO Ich freue mich auf jede Begegnung und wünsche mir, dass sich im wunderschönen Düsseldorf alle stets willkommen fühlen werden.

SO The city has everything you need and at the same time you’re never travelling long from A to B.

What do you miss when you’re not in Düsseldorf?

SO Strolling around and eating at Carlsplatz and bread and baked goods from Hinkel.

What are you most looking forward to at UEFA EURO 2024™?

SO The meeting of people from different walks of life that the UEFA EURO 2024™ will bring together and enable them to connect. I’m looking forward to the interaction and the shared excitement and enjoyment.

How, where and with whom will you be watching the games and who are you rooting for?

SO I will be preparing for the Olympics myself, so of course I hope to be able to watch as many matches as possible. I’m rooting for the German national team, of course.

How will you greet the international visitors to the UEFA EURO 2024™?

SO I’m looking forward to every match and hope that everyone will always feel welcome in beautiful Düsseldorf.

❶ Fan Zone Burgplatz

Los geht’s: Vom Burgplatz ist es nur ein Katzensprung bis zu den Kneipen und Restaurants der Altstadt. Der Weg führt an der historischen Lambertuskirche vorbei Richtung Oberkasseler Brücke.

GM Düsseldorf is a small, manageable city. The city not only has a lot of nature, such as the Unterbacher See or Gerresheimer Wald, but also a rich cultural programme. Three places in Düsseldorf that visitors to the city absolutely must see?

GM The Suitbertus-Stiftsplatz in Kaiserswerth with its old church, the glider airfield in Gerresheim and the historic Golzheim cemetery.

MC Natürlich liebe ich meine neu gewonnen Freunde und Familie. Ich bin ein Fan der DEG und Fortuna. Ich liebe es, am Rhein zu spazieren, in der Altstadt ein Bier zu trinken und manchmal nutze ich die tollen Shopping-Möglichkeiten in der Stadt. Wo findest du ein Stück Heimat in Düsseldorf?

MC Meine Heimat in Düsseldorf ist das Lorettoviertel geworden, von da ist man schnell im Hafen und auf dem Rheinturm. Ein Besuch, den ich nur empfehlen kann.

Deine Lieblingsbar oder -kneipe?

MC Im Sommer mit Blick auf den Rhein kann man gemütlich in den Kasematten sitzen.

What do you love most about Düsseldorf?

MC Of course I love my new friends and family. I’m a fan of DEG and Fortuna. I love walking along the Rhine, drinking a beer in the Altstadt (Old Town) and sometimes I take advantage of the great shopping opportunities in the city.

Where do you find a little piece of home in Düsseldorf?

MC My home in Düsseldorf has become the Loretto district, from there you can quickly reach the harbour and the Rheinturm (Rhine tower). I can only recommend a visit.

Your favourite bar or pub?

MC In the summer you can sit comfortably at the Kasematten with a view of the Rhine.

DE Sie erstreckt sich nur über einen halben Quadratkilometer und ist dennoch „die längste Theke der Welt“: Die Düsseldorfer Altstadt besteht aus rund 260 Kneipen, Restaurants und Bars. Tatsächlich hat sie auch jenseits des berühmten Altbiers und der berüchtigten raubeinigen Köbesse, wie die Kellner hier genannt werden, viele Facetten. Die Düsseldorfer Hausbrauereien pflegen die Tradition der Zubereitung und machen die Brauhauskultur erlebbar. Brauen geht in Düsseldorf – der Heimat des Altbieres – tatsächlich bis in die römische Antike zurück. „Alt“ bezieht sich auf die Brauart des Altbieres, und gemeint ist, dass es sich um ein obergäriges Bier handelt. Zwischen den Brauhäusern haben sich zahlreiche Studentenkneipen, Künstler-Treffpunkte und Musik-Clubs angesiedelt sowie Bars und Pubs, in denen das Publikum besonders international ist. In den Altstadt-Clubs ist aus dem Zusammenspiel von Kunst und Musik viel einflussreiche Popmusik entstanden. „The Sound of Düsseldorf“ steht für Krautrock, Electropop und Punkrock. It only covers half a square kilometre and yet is “the longest bar in the world”: Düsseldorf’s Altstadt (Old Town) consists of around 260 pubs, restaurants and bars. In fact, it also has many facets beyond the famous Altbier and the notorious roughand-tumble Köbesse, as the waiters are known here. Düsseldorf’s craft breweries cultivate the tradition of brewing and bring the brewery culture to life. Brewing in Düsseldorf – the home of Altbier – actually dates back to Roman antiquity. “Alt” refers to the brewing method of Altbier, meaning that it is a top-fermented beer. Between the breweries, there are numerous student pubs, artists’ meeting places and music clubs, as well as bars and pubs with a particularly international clientele. A lot of influential pop music has emerged from the interplay between art and music in the Altstadt (Old Town) clubs. “The Sound of Düsseldorf” stands for krautrock, electropop and punk rock. Bands such as Kraftwerk and Die Toten Hosen played their first concerts in the Altstadt (Old Town). Whether you want to round off an eventful day here in one of the quaint breweries, in a traditional fish restaurant or with a sophisticated drink on the Kasematten of the Rhine embankment promenade with a view of the Rhine is ultimately – in the truest sense of the word – a matter of taste.

The Carlsplatz market is Düsseldorf’s oldest market and is open daily (except Sundays) – perfect for grocery shopping and a quick lunch at one of the many international food stalls. There are many individual shops around it and on the historic Hohe Straße. The shops in the Altstadt (Old Town) are just a stone’s throw away.

Ein Muss für Architekturfreunde: Mit dem dreiteiligen, organisch geformten Gebäudeensemble Neuer Zollhof hat Stararchitekt Frank O. Gehry direkt neben dem Rheinturm ein echtes Düsseldorfer Wahrzeichen geschaffen. Aber

Ein rosa Märchenschloss im Düsseldorfer

Süden: Kurfürst Karl Theodor ließ das Jagd und Gartenschloss in Benrath 1755 erbauen. Es ist ein Kleinod – kein anderes europäisches Baudenkmal dieser Zeit ist so gut erhalten. Im Schlosspark leben mehr als 80 Vogel- und über 300 Käferarten. Seltene Bäume prägen den sogenannten Kurfürstengarten, den herausragende Gartenkünstler im 19. Jahrhundert anlegten.

A pink fairytale chateau in the south of Düsseldorf: Elector Karl Theodor had the hunting and garden palace in Benrath built in 1755. It is a jewel – no other European monument from this period is so well preserved. More than 80 bird species and over 300 beetle species live in the palace park.
