t Dunham, you’ll find intentionally small classes, where a blend of traditional and innovative teaching is combined

with the latest technology to ignite creativity and intellectual curiosity. You’ll discover expert teachers who treasure each child as the individual he or she was created to be, and you’ll find challenging academic, athletic, fine arts, and leadership programs that enable students to meet their God-given potential. But it’s not just our college preparatory curriculum, cutting-edge technology and innovative programs that single us out as the leading independent school in Baton Rouge. It’s how our faculty and students use these resources every day — collaborating, problem solving, mentoring, communicating, learning and leading — that’s unique. And it’s the Christlike love modeled and lived out daily that creates a joyful spirit on our campus, one that makes all the difference in preparing students for college and for life.

Academics

Dunham students thrive in an academic environment where they are challenged to think critically and discover the truth about the world around them. Small class sizes allow for more personal attention, leading to greater academic engagement and achievement. Because we celebrate the fact that every child is fearfully and wonderfully made with unique talents, intellectual strengths and personality traits, our faculty is trained to accommodate a variety of learning styles and to provide gifted and advanced instruction. STEM Our STEM curriculum is aligned with Next Generation Science Standards and integrated across disciplines in all grade levels. Through college preparatory course offerings in science, technology, computer science, engineering, and mathematics, as well as experiences in robotics, coding, design, in-depth research projects, and partnerships with industry experts, our students are prepared for advanced studies and careers in STEM fields.

HARKNESS The Harkness Method is used in our Middle and Upper School humanities classes, where students find and use their voices as they speak up, stake a claim, and defend an idea. In an era when most people speak first and think later, students discover the power of listening — actively, empathetically, and critically. Beyond opening the mind to divergent point of views and possibilities, Harkness prepares our graduates to lead more effectively in college and in their professional lives.

INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY Dunham is a seven-time Apple Distinguished School. Technology is integrated throughout our curriculum to open up a world of endless resources and opportunities for our students. Our technology-rich environment keeps students inspired and challenged through experiences that build creativity, collaboration, and cross-cultural literacy.

LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM In addition to our academic, fine arts, and athletic programs, we offer a wide array of afterschool, enrichment and travel opportunities for students to discover new passions, find shared interests and broaden their horizons. A variety of extracurricular clubs and organizations, along with our counseling and advisory programs, ensure students stay plugged in, connected, and supported.

Faith

As a Christian school, we care about our students’ education from an eternal perspective. By design, everything we do here — academics, athletics, arts — is grounded in the desire to see our students mature in faith and character. Whether it’s through chapel services, Bible classes or service opportunities, our aim is to educate the heart as fully as the mind. Ours is a campus set apart to worship, glorify, and serve God. BIBLE CURRICULUM Through the study of both the Old and New Testaments, Bible classes are designed to create an environment where students in all grades can explore Biblical truth and discuss its application in the world today.

WEEKLY CHAPEL Each division attends weekly chapel services for a time of worship, prayer, and songs of praise. Parents and grandparents are welcome and invited to join us during this special time.

COMMUNITY SERVICE As part of our desire to develop servant leaders, students participate in service projects to compassionately serve those in need in our community.

Innovation Creativity abounds at Dunham thanks to a technology-rich environment that includes iPads, MacBooks, 3D design, robotics, coding, virtual reality, and engineering explorations in the Innovation and STEM Labs. As a six-time Apple Distinguished School, Dunham transforms learning by enabling students to navigate the wonders and challenges of our world through numerous cross-cultural engagements. As we prepare our students for a future that will include jobs yet to exist, our innovative curriculum encourages students to solve problems, collaborate, think critically, and communicate. From our classical humanities to our robust STEM program aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, students of all ages routinely engage in-depth understanding of content and develop skills that will serve them well throughout their educational and professional lives. Because we believe that the creative thinkers found in our classrooms today will emerge as the innovative leaders of tomorrow, we’re committed to providing each student with the experiences necessary to view problems from different angles and offer creative, dynamic solutions.

Leadership We’re committed to enabling students to become our society’s next generation of leaders — individuals ready to speak up, step out, meet a need ,and make a difference. From the Lower School Sunshine Helpers and Middle School House Captains to Upper School Prefects, we have a number of programs and opportunities designed to help students of all ages develop their leadership skills. In addition to elected positions, Upper School students may participate in the Institute of Leadership, a formal program that trains, empowers, and sends students out to follow Christ’s example of leading by serving others.

Faculty Skilled and caring teachers are the key to everything we do. With a student/teacher ratio of 8:1 and an average class size of 14, students make big connections with each other and their teachers, who know and pray for them by name. We understand how students learn, where they struggle, and what makes them tick. We know their greatest strengths, their secret aspirations, and their hidden talents. This capacity for connecting with students on a personal level is part of our school’s unique culture and often what our alumni value the most from their years at Dunham. Because we care about our students as individuals, we strive to meet the academic needs of each child entrusted to us. While most of these needs are met in the traditional college preparatory classroom by faculty trained to accommodate a variety of learning styles and preferences, we also offer gifted and advanced instruction, tutoring, and individual courses for students who need these services. Learning truly becomes personalized at Dunham as we work to make sure every child develops into the person he or she was created to be.

College Preparation At Dunham, we use every available resource to enable our students to achieve their potential and dream big about their futures; it’s a promise we make to each parent and student in the Dunham family. We integrate college preparation into every aspect of school life, with the goal of equipping our students with the knowledge, future-ready skills, and confidence to succeed both in college and in life beyond. College placement is individualized to help students identify their strengths, interests, and career aspirations. Seventh-grade academic planning meetings chart a course for the next six years, with an eye towards college admissions. College counseling continues in Upper School through one-on-one meetings, visits from college reps, SAT and ACT test prep, and assistance with applications, interviews, and scholarships. One hundred percent of Dunham seniors gain acceptance to college, with many earning substantial scholarship offers.
