As we experience a season of growth, success, and unprecedented enrollment, we are reaching new levels of achievement as a school.
We are blessed to have built a reputation as an authentic, caring Christian school with a vibrant and welcoming community of staff, students, parents, and grandparents. Our academic reputation continues to grow as our graduates find success in college and in their chosen careers.
Our fine arts community is exceptional, allowing students to explore creativity through performance and the demonstration and development of God-given talent, and our sports teams are experiencing amazing success on multiple fronts, both boys and girls.
This does not happen by accident; it happens because of the commitment and effort of our faculty and staff to deliver the mission daily. It happens because of the partnership that we have with our amazing parents. It happens because of the Board of Trustees’ mission-focused leadership. It happens because God allows us to grow and thrive as we seek to bless others through our school. It happens because generous donors continue to invest in the future growth and development of our school.
I thank God for the blessing that is the Dunham community, and I am thankful for all that you do to support our school! Thank you!
God Bless,

Expansion of Counseling Program Supports Social and Emotional Well-Being
by Beau Dantin ’04
THROUGHOUT BATON ROUGE, THE DUNHAM SCHOOL IS WELL KNOWN FOR HOW UNIQUE IT IS—AS A SCHOOL AND AS A COMMUNITY. THE SCHOOL HAS MANY STRENGTHS, BUT A DEFINING HIGHLIGHT IS THE FORMATION OF CHRIST-CENTERED RELATIONSHIPS THAT OCCUR DAILY ON CAMPUS. PARENTS CONFIDENTLY DROP THEIR CHILDREN OFF KNOWING THEY WILL BE EDUCATED AND CARED FOR ON A MORE PERSONAL LEVEL THAN ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE CITY.
The Lower School counseling curriculum is delivered by Elizabeth Singletary through fun, interactive classroom lessons.
Another unique feature that allows Dunham to stand out is our mental health counseling team. Most schools have counselors; however, there is often a gap in need and resources that leaves many of them understaffed and struggling not only to keep up with the workload, but also to take advantage of vital relationship-building opportunities in the student and parent communities.
This is not the case at Dunham, where, over the past five years, the school’s counseling department has grown from one counselor serving all grades to a staff of three full-time counselors with specific areas of focus. The expansion of the department has allowed us to take a proactive approach in delivering a student mental health curriculum that covers a variety of topics ranging from conflict resolution and problem solving to the formation of healthy Christian

relationships and the early prevention of negative issues, such as bullying and substance abuse.
We understand, too, that parents are the foundation of a child’s well-being and are excited this year to implement a new Parent Engagement Program (PEP) that includes a monthly newsletter, a counseling blog, and parent seminars on relevant topics.
Middle and Upper School students enjoy quarterly classroom lessons that focus on important facets of mental health.
Our hope is that the expansion of our counseling program will have a positive impact on student life and the Dunham community
as a whole. Because we know humans of all ages and demographics rate their quality of life by the quality of their relationships and their health, we believe students will have the highest quality of experience here when they feel known, cared for, and heard.
“The expansion of our counseling program affirms our ongoing commitment to our students’ social and emotional well-being and helps us maintain a safe, caring environment where every student feels a sense of belonging and is able to make meaningful connections with peers and teachers. ”
— HEAD OF SCHOOL STEVE EAGLETON

Middle School House System
10 YEARS STRONG!
by Mackensie Heath
When school began in August, Dunham’s Middle School celebrated an important milestone—the 10th anniversary of the House System. Originally found in schools in the United Kingdom, the practice of assigning students to groups or “houses” where they work together and often compete for house points has since become a tradition in select boarding and day schools in the United States.
History
To enhance the community experience of Middle School students and help them develop an appreciation for school history, the House System was created in the fall of 2015. The four houses are named after four of Dunham’s founding families—Koch, Love, Michaelson, and Tabb, with the coveted Snoddy House Cup named after the school’s fifth founding family.
The new digital display board in the Middle School office keeps a running tally of house points and real-time updates as individual students are awarded points.
Abby Ryan Myers ’28 holds the Snoddy House Cup awarded to House Michaelson at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
During the first year of the House System, House Captains (from left) Colin Richards ’20 (Koch), Catherine Enos ’20 (Tabb), Jet McDuffie ’20 (Love), and Sarah Barton ’20 presented the school with $446 raised through the Penny Wars competition.
Traditions
Each house has its own tartan plaid that can be traced back to a specific Scottish clan, an homage to Head of School Steve Eagleton who hails from Scotland. At the beginning of every school year, fifth graders as well as any new Middle School students are assigned to a house. Younger siblings are considered "legacies" and belong to the same house as their older siblings. Throughout their time in Middle School, students remain in the same house and work together to earn house points.
Although the houses were originally led by one eighth-grade House Captain, they are now led by two captains, one boy and one girl. Captains are responsible for leading by example, welcoming new students, and serving as ambassadors for the Middle School. Students apply to become House Captains in the spring of their seventh-grade year and are chosen based on an anonymous application by the faculty heads of each house, Mrs. Hebert (Koch), Mr. Sullivan (Love), Mrs. Heath (Michaelson), and Mr. Bourgeois (Tabb). Mr. Sullivan and Mrs. Heath have served as Heads of House for the entirety of the House System at Dunham.
Each Middle School faculty member also belongs to one of the four houses and may award points to students in keeping with the division’s core belief that each child has unique gifts that are waiting to be recognized by teachers and peers. In addition to building cohesion and a greater sense of community, the House System allows for interaction between older and younger students and the development of leadership skills.
"Being a House Captain helped prepare me for future leadership positions by pushing me to speak in front of large crowds and teaching me to delegate work,” said Gage Blanchard ’25, who now serves as a Senior Prefect in the Upper School.
Competitions
Throughout the school year, students compete for house points that can be earned in various ways, including Honor Roll and Dean's List, community service, arts, athletic participation, house competitions, Field Day, and many other activities. Students are responsible for raising the house flags in the Middle School courtyard each morning with the leading house’s flag flown on the tallest flagpole.
"We're the only school in Baton Rouge that has a House System. It's a way to connect with other grades and compete with our friends in a fun way to earn house points," said current House Tabb Captain Drew DeVille ’29

10-Year Celebration
In celebration of the House System’s 10th anniversary, the Middle School has emphasized its vision and purpose by adopting the motto, “10 years, 4 Houses, 1 Home,” and adding a new digital points tracking system. Parents can opt in to be notified in real time when their child earns house points.
In reflecting upon the House System’s 10th anniversary, new Middle School Head Amos Lyso said, “Since joining Dunham this year, one of the highlights has been working with the eight incredible House Captains. Meeting every other week, it is exciting to see their enthusiasm for helping to create a positive and engaging school culture here in the middle school. I look forward to seeing what the next 10 years of the House System will bring!”

Mason Charles Prima ’25
The Dunham community continues to mourn the loss of senior Mason Prima, who walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on September 13, 2024, following a tragic car accident.
A cherished member of the Class of 2025, Mason was known for his wit, kindness, and deep love for family, friends, country music, and the outdoors—whether he was hunting, fishing, or spending time on the water.
He was also a talented athlete who excelled at competitive soccer and played multiple positions on the varsity football team for two years. One of his greatest joys, however, was driving his younger sister, Ava, to school each morning, singing their favorite country songs on the way.
Upon learning of Mason’s passing, the senior class gathered on campus to decorate his parking space before joining teachers and staff for a time of prayer and reflection in the chapel.
Family and friends, while heartbroken, have found comfort in the knowledge that Mason had formed a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as evidenced by one his favorite Bible verses:
“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.”
ISAIAH 54:10
Please continue to lift up Mason’s mother and stepfather, Christy and Karlo Gomez, father and stepmother, Vic Prima and Devyn, sisters Karlee Gomez ’23 and Ava Gomez ’33, extended family, teachers, and classmates in prayer as they walk through this difficult time.
An avid outdoorsman, Mason was determined to have his senior portrait taken while waterskiing.

Seniors Recognized by The National Merit Scholarship Corporation
The Dunham School is proud to announce that the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) has named seniors George Harrod as a National Merit Semifinalist and Alex Smith as a Commended Student.
George now advances to compete for one of 6,870 National Merit Scholarships that will be awarded to academically talented high school seniors next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. Approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
More than 1.3 million high school juniors entered the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants from each state.
National Merit Scholarship winners for 2025 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. If selected to receive a National Merit Scholarship, George will join a distinguished group of Dunham graduates, including Jackson Ford ’23, Jake Rizzo ’23, Austin Stevens ’23
Venable ’21, Parker Harris ’19, Luke Russell ’19 Gabby Walker ’17
NMSC was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 280 business organizations, high education institutions, and individual donors that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.

Elijah Haven ’27 Named No. 1 Overall Prospect for 2027
IN AUGUST, SOPHOMORE QUARTERBACK ELIJAH
HAVEN was named the top national college football recruit for 2027.
“The Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham quarterback stands at the top of his class, thanks to a mixture of production and verified athleticism,” wrote 247Sports’ Mike Roach after the release of the initial Top 100 prospects in the class of 2027.
Elijah currently holds offers from Auburn, Baylor, Cornell, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Miami, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech.
Last year, he posted an 8-3 record as a freshman starter during a season that saw him throw for 2,205 yards with a school-record 35 touchdowns and rush for 641 yards and 12 touchdowns. After helping the team clinch the District 6-2A championship, he was named All-District Offensive MVP, All-District 1st Team, All-Metro 1st Team, and All-State. This year, the Tigers remain undefeated and are ranked no. 1 in Division III Select as they head into the playoffs.

A BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW
Integrating a biblical worldview across all aspects of campus life stands at the heart of Dunham’s mission to educate minds and hearts for Christ. While much of this happens in formal Bible classes, Dunham aims to impact the whole child in and out of the classroom by engaging the mind as biblical understanding takes place; the heart as self-investigation occurs; body through teamwork and sportsmanship; and the will as students desire to impact the world for the kingdom of God.
For the past few years, a significant portion of faculty professional development has been devoted to the intersection of faith and learning. As an interdenominational school, scripture is taught from a perspective of unity by emphasizing what we share in Christ and not what separates us denominationally. All activities and discussions are designed to create an environment where students can explore biblical truth and discuss its application in the world today.
Through this approach, students are encouraged to reason through scripture and develop their worldview in a safe, nurturing environment so that by the time they graduate, they can see the world and the events that transpire in it through a biblical lens, whereby God is the divine creator and ultimate authority.

She says that she has gained a great deal of knowledge about the business side of running and promoting a historical society and that her previous experience in academic research and writing has helped her to create and edit content. Claire’s favorite part of the job is getting to work with Dr. Smith and see someone she’s admired launch a project on the cutting edge of contemporary historiography. At present, NICWS is collecting primary sources and interviews with those who experienced the Cold War conflict and asks that anyone involved visit www.nicws.org to share their unique story. Others interested in the Cold War or historical research are also invited to visit the website and become a member.
