Gea Kaye Renomeron, a grade 10 Newton student of Burauen Comprehensive National High School, won first place in Oratorical Composition and Presentation during the Area-IIB Read-a-thon at Dagami South Central School, Dagami, Leyte, April 14.

Renomeron has outdone nine contestants from different secondary schools in Burauen, La Paz, Dulag, Julita, and Dagami.

Comprehensive has its fair share of troubles among students but never to the point of riots created by outsiders. The school do normally have police visibility for traffic purposes but this time they are now deployed to ensure peace and order within the premises.

Eco-warriors support school’s waste management advocacy

Last September 27-28, the Eco-Friendly Club invited University of the Philippines (UP) Envisage, UP Halcyon, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region 8, Kiwanis Club of Sulhog Tacloban, Jollibee Foods Corporation, and ERT-CDE Holdings Inc., for the celebration of World Health Day, where the primary information regarding the enactment of sustainability for the school year 2022–2023 was disseminated.

During the event, students also presented recycled costumes made of trash, participated in a clean-up drive, and engaged in a poster-making contest.

To limit plastic waste and to address the issue of piled-up plastic trash bins, School Principal Glendale B. Lamiseria asked students to bring their tumblers or reusable cups last November 2022., As of April 25, data from the Eco-Friendly Club showed that 3,541 learners heeded the call. They were also instructed to utilize 1.5-liter bottles as their quarterly garbage cans for the disposal of plastic waste.

Waste management has been a concern for BCNHS in the past three years and is still an issue today. Majority of students disregard the proper segregation of trash and do not follow orders given to them despite the constant reminders. Consequently, it is unimaginable to avoid having trash around the campus, especially in canteens where many sell foods and drinks in plastic containers.

Enrollment hits near 4,000 mark

Reports showed that Burauen Comprehensive National High School has 3964 registered students this 2022-2023 school year(S.Y), going up by 89 and 288 enrollees from the previous school years.

The spread of COVID-19 and start of modular learning have caused the upsurge of enrollment rate.

Before the pandemic in S.Y 2019-2020, there were 3328 enrolled students and rose to 3676 when it started in S.Y 2020-2021.
