ThefirsttwomentorsinspiredDevier toreturntoONUandadopttheir effectiveteachingmethods.Inthenext fiveyears,hetaughthighschool, earnedamaster'sdegree,taughtat CentralStateUniversity,obtaineda Ph.D.fromOhioStateUniversity,and rejoinedONUasfacultywithtwoof hismentors.Heenjoyeda15-year tenureatONUuntilathirdmentor, ONUPresidentDr.DebowFreed,saw hisleadershippotential.

Withthemajorityofinternational studentsfromcountriessuchasChina andKorea,andgraduatesundertaking rolesofuniversityteachersintheir ownrespectivecountries,thehighly impactfuleducationalcurriculumof
MAUis nosmallimpactonAPEC countries.
Additionally,MAU's'questionsetting'educationalprogramhasbeen convertedintoaprojectastheGlobal DesignInitiativeWorkshopsince 2015andisorganizedannuallyby fiveuniversities—Singapore,Taiwan, Germany,theUK,andMAU—asan ambitiousattempttosharethe civilizationalcontextoftheworld, ratherthankeepingAPECcountries withintheirborders.
TheaftermathoftheCOVID-19 pandemichelpedtheuniversity explorenewwaysofteachingaswell asstrengthenitsonlineteaching capabilities,leadingtosecuringnew educationalprograms.Intermsof teachingmethodsforartanddesign educationexercisesandpractical traininginvolvingthecreationof artworks,eachdepartmentinitiated innovativeopportunitiesandnew teachingmethodswerepioneeredin anattempttotranscendchallenges.
Forinstance,inproductdesign education,theuniversityattemptedto combine3Dprintersandapplications tocreateprototypes,aswellasa deliverysystemthatenabledthe departmentandstudentstowork togetheronline.Thisattemptnotonly drewattentiontotheMinistry (MEXT)butwasalsorecognizedand publishedseriallyintheMEXT InformationMagazine.
MAUalsoreorganizeditsacademic scheduleandpreparedseveral programstosupportstudentsbefore thebeginningofanewacademic
session.Althoughdelayingthe graduationexhibitionposedahuge challenge,thehighlevelof graduationworksproduced throughouttheyearweremaintained bytheuniversity.MAUregulated strictmeasurestopreventinfection andwasamongthefirstart universitiesinJapantoallowstudents insidethecampus.Italso implementedmeasurestohandle onlinelecture-basedcoursesand practicaltrainingclassesinperson, whileo eringhybridclassesusing bothmethods.
