To coincide with the London 2012 Olympic Games, we’re offering the Great British public the opportunity to ‘Be Part of It’, and this booklet has been designed to highlight the many ways that you and your club can get involved with the Hockey Nation.

Be part of a summer of fun with five weeks of heightened hockey activity from the 27th July to the 3rd September 2012. Forget the summer of ‘69, this is the summer of 2012, when the world’s biggest sporting event will arrive right here in Britain.

programme of events and activities for all ages and abilities, aiming to inspire the country to pick up a stick. We are looking for clubs to be part of the hockey nation by offering adult and young people come and try it sessions during the summer. Why not put on some activity for young people and run a session for parents alongside for example? Or run an adult come and try it followed by a few drinks in the bar afterwards? We anticipate that up to a massive 25,000 people will take part in hockey activity over the summer, so get involved and make sure you and your club are part of it.

FIVE WAYS TO BE PART of the five week frenzy You love the sound of it, but how does your club get involved with the Five Week Frenzy? Here are six ways to be part of it... 1.
Hockey Nation needs clubs who will provide activity for young people and for adults.
Consider how your club and coaches will welcome people of all ages who may never have played before 2.
Hockey Nation is looking for clubs to provide one session per week, catering for around 20 people of adult and/or young people ‘come and try it’ sessions.
3.
Register your ‘young people come and try it’ and ‘adult come and try it’ activity with your EHB Relationship Manager who will talk to you about the type of activity you want to offer. For more information on what you could offer, see pages 8-15.
4.
Where available, you will be matched up with coaches in your area who are willing to volunteer during the Five Week Frenzy by your Regional Office.
5.
Your activity will be uploaded onto www.hockeynation.info and during Five Week Frenzy people will be able to search for the activity at your club.
Have you seen the big ball?
Is your club prepared?
Use the larger ball for all activity with new people – it gives a great experience to new players. Ask your RM for more details.
We want you to be able to offer the very best experience to people of all ages, to get as many people playing as we can!

It is a fantastic way to introduce new participants to your club who may never have picked up a stick before. There are plenty of resources available to deliver the game, and no better place to start than with the free online course which can be taken by the coaches at your club. Coaches can then access the activity camp pack which involves five hours of suggested delivery. There is a full resource set which could be purchased once you have enough Quicksticks activity running at your club.

It can be played on any surface, and uses a larger, lighter and safer ball. The game is designed in a way that makes it easy for teachers and coaches to deliver, even if they have little or no prior knowledge of hockey.

Quicksticks is a four-a-side introductory game designed specifically for Primary Schools and 7-11 year olds.
Once you’ve encouraged your coaches to take the free online Quicksticks course, why not be part of the five‑week-frenzy from 27th July, and set up a series of activity camps at your club? EHB will be launching a new competitions structure involving Quicksticks in September, so get ahead and introduce this version of hockey at your club this summer! For further details on how to be part of Quicksticks, please visit the website www.playquicksticks.co.uk How will your club benefit? Grow your junior section by introducing families. Parents might get involved as players or even volunteers! They might also come along to adult come and try it sessions.
And don’t forget, Quicksticks offers clubs a great community link opportunity by linking with your local primary schools. After all, there are on average 32 primary schools in easy reach of every club...just think of how many new players that could generate! Check out our ‘Grow Your Own – Players’ resource for more details on how to link with your community.

In2Hockey
Our GB Players have recently been visiting secondary school giving talks, coaching, meeting young people and inspiring them to play In2Hockey.
There are three courses available, introducing and delivering In2Hockey, goalkeeping and umpiring. Each course is available as a practical course, or online, so get your coaches involved. Just like Quicksticks, In2Hockey offers a number of community link opportunities. Why not link with senior schools in your area – there are likely to be on average 10 schools within reach of your club. For more details on how to link with your community, take a look at our ‘Grow Your Own – Players’ book. The game of In2Hockey is accompanied by a range of resources to support delivery. This includes delivery cards and six-weeks of session plans for each age group, each of which have clear session objectives with outcomes. Coaches with more experience can use the delivery cards to create their own sessions.

HARVESTER GYO CLUB WEEKEND
National Club Weekend is a chance for your club to show your local community how great you are!
Alderley Edge in Cheshire hosted last year and had this to say about Club Weekend:
If your club has taken advantage of the many recruitment opportunities available as part of Hockey Nation, the Harvester National Club Weekend is a marvellous chance to welcome your new players, volunteers and officials, along with the more familiar faces. Why not even invite the local media!
“It was the most fantastic day and a great reward, but most importantly it was a chance to showcase our club, as well as hockey in general” Teresa Hadfield
There’s loads of great advice on how to run your very own Grow Your Own Club Weekend on the EHB website, and the separate GYO Club Weekend booklet. Club Weekend will take place on the 1st and 2nd of September. EHB will be sending their full roadshow kit to two clubs during club weekend. Why not enter our competition for a chance to win? How will your club benefit? Making your club as open and welcoming as possible is sure to attract new players and volunteers.

To be in with a chance of winning the roadshow kit and EHB staff for the day, post a message on our GYO Event Page on Facebook, telling us why your club should win the roadshow kit.
