Kolby and J have to be one of the absolute sweetest couples I have ever photographed. Kolby is always so kind and appreciative and J has a heart of gold. I was about in tears watching him see his gorgeous bride for the first time. Those types of reactions are what the first look is created for! There is absolutely no doubt these two complete each other. Our morning started busy even though the winds were reaching over 50mph. We were all a bit nervous what the day would bring but in true wedding fashion it all turned out wonderful. I think their tent could have completely blown away and J and Kolby wouldn’t have minded a bit as long as they had each other. It was a picture perfect day for these two. My favorite part of the night was the 12 piece band from Chicago that played at the reception. I think everyone was out on the dance floor at least once! CONGRATS Kolby + J!! It was a pleasure to be a part of your big day!

Kelsey and Andrew are one of the most thoughtful and charming couples I’ve had the sweet pleasure of serving. Their day may have been flawless on paper from start to finish, but to them, it would have amounted to nothing if it hadn’t been for the friends and family celebrating along side them every step of the way. Even though the rain/snowy mess on their wedding day technically put me just shy of three full wedding seasons without rain, I left Kelsey and Andrews’s wedding with a tender reminder of how blessed I am to so intimately share in one of the biggest days of my couples’ lives.

Sara O’Shea, the entrepreneur behind both gorgeously curated shops, got her start in the wedding industry as an event planner with So Chic Events, founded in 2007. For 12 years, Sara has been a champion for local business, a powerhouse of ideas and local events, and a curator with a gift for making the shopping and planning experiences feel truly personal.
Currently, there is a huge divide among couples about how to do their wedding stationery. Many engaged couples opt to go online for invites, but Sara says that personal assistance can’t be beat. “There are so many little nuances, and until their wedding, many couples have never had a reason to order formal stationery in their lives,” she says. “So having someone who is in stationery and can walk through what you need in your invitations is really helpful, which you can’t get with the online process. People are often surprised that they can get comparable pricing to online with the personal help.”
Now, there is even more on the horizon for So Chic:
CUSTOM INVITATION SUITES So Chic Boutique has offered custom inhouse invitations for 3 years, but just in the past month, they have upped their game, Sara says. “We have two, full-time graphic designers now so we can offer custom suites at a greater scale,” she says. “The timing is great because while wedding invites are our bread and butter, we can do shower invitations, signage, wedding day details, programs, etc. We can take care of all of it.”

So Chic Boutique has been a Peoria area favorite for gifts and wedding supplies since 2013. The first boutique opened its doors in Morton, and four years later, a second shop was added in Peoria Heights.

WEDDING DAY INVITATIONS + PAPERS What Sara says she loves most about offering custom invitations in-house is that they can really carry details through your whole wedding. Even if a couple purchased their invitations online or elsewhere, So Chic can still offer wedding day paper for them and match previous designs. “A lot of the online places that do invites don’t do coordinating wedding day details so we have some brides who just work with us for wedding day paper,” she says. Sara added that she loves the aesthetics of cohesive details.

This personalized process, and the fact that you can sit down and talk to a live person, is what sets it apart, Sara says.

THE SO CHIC BOUTIQUE “People are being so much more creative and infusing their personalities in their stationery,” she says. “People are making them so much more personalized, like using a customized monogram or even their dog, to make it about who they are as a couple.” If you want to work with So Chic to design wedding invitations, 6 months ahead of the big day is the ideal time to get in touch. But don’t panic if your wedding is sooner; shorter turnaround is totally doable. Once your invitations are ready, Sara recommends sending them out 8-10 weeks before your wedding. As a lover of all things wedding, So Chic Boutique first started as an offshoot of Sara’s wedding planning services. Brides-to-be could find reception decorations and wedding essentials at the store, but over time, customers began to request even more gift options for bridesmaids, parents and event hosts. “It’s still amazing to me how many people don’t know the stores exist and that it’s not just a wedding store,” Sara says. “It’s a full-service experience. We want you to come in and let us help you pick out bridesmaids gifts, hostess gifts, wrap the gifts, and have the whole small business shopping experience. You can still plan a party with us and buy pretty party things, but you can still shop if there’s not a wedding in your future.”

Another little-known fact about the boutiques is that, despite being a local business, you can also order from So Chic Boutique online. Shop online or pick up in store, or shop and So Chic will ship it for you. Don’t miss the Boxes of Chic, which are pre-curated gift boxes for engagements, a new baby, or even just a “box of sunshine” to cheer someone up. They make thoughtful, simple gifts, and you can order them online and ship them to friends near or far. “People love the boxes, but we also do a lot of shopping for our clients,” she says.
“We can curate something super special for them and gift wrap it for them.” If you’ve been to a So Chic Boutique, you might have noticed the shops are more than just shops. Both boutiques include Pretty Little Party Rooms, which are spaces available for event rentals. “We host many showers in those party rooms,” Sara says. “We’ve had a few couples even get married there. Some people book the room in Peoria Heights for bachelorette parties, and then they go out afterward. But mostly, it’s a lot of bridal and baby showers.”

It’s a fun way we can have a presence at all these fun events. It’s like a baby version of our store but it’ll definitely feel like our stores.” Sara says that as her team became more involved with collaborative events and pop-ups, they needed a way to have a presence at more events. Ceremony: Anderson Mansion Carlinville Reception Location: Litchfield Community Center Anderson Mansion's historic country vibe was the perfect backdrop for Richelle and Brett's rustic June wedding. The sweet spring colors popped against the all white mansion, and the surrounding grounds and gardens. The bridesmaids wore light and airy coral chiffon gowns, complemented by the groomsmen's navy and coral suits. I worked with Chelsea Lapolice Photography, and our day was a breeze with this super photogenic couple. Their love was easy to capture as it was evident that this gorgeous day was their happy ever after. Even the minister cried as he was sharing their story! Richelle and Brett said "I do" and exited their ceremony to "Go CARDS go!" We made a stop at the historic courthouse in downtown Carlinville for a few more photos before a buffet dinner by Niemerg's catering, then dancing and Photo Booth fun provided by Epic Entertainment.

Ceremony: Calvary Baptist Bible Church Venue: The Waterhouse Distillery Room, Peoria, IL Derek and Amy’s wedding day was a dream! They are the sweetest and most thoughtful couple and they deserved such an amazing wedding day! Their day was surrounded by lots of family and friends. They were married at the Calvary Bible Baptist Church. Amy wore a gorgeous blush dress and Derek looked so handsome in his grey suit. The bridesmaids had gorgeous blue/grey dresses, and the men looked dapper in their suspenders and ties. The florals and Amy's bouquet were some of the most gorgeous flowers I had ever seen! Amy’s personality and smile absolutely light up any room that she is in. The love she has for Derek is infectious. You can just feel it when you are around them. Their reception was a perfect backdrop with the wood accents and brick walls of The Waterhouse. They even had an ice cream bar instead of a wedding cake! Their wedding day was such an amazing and gorgeous day! Congrats, Amy & Derek!
