Janet Beebe’s plans were put on hold soon after moving to Peachtree City, Georgia, in 1981. She and her husband were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their third child. Janet had dreams of starting a business. But while nursing her newborn, Janet discovered a lump in her breast. ,W ZDVQĹťW XQWLO WKDW D ELRSV\ Ć QDOO\ LGHQWLĆ HG WKH malignancy, now spread to her lymph nodes, that multiple tests and exams had failed to reveal.. This was long before pink ribbons -- and the supportive community they’ve come to represent -were the norm. Surgery and treatment followed, all while caring for three young children. While in the hospital, Janet discovered, Bosom Buddies of Georgia. The support she received from that organization inspired her to become a volunteer and, eventually, a staff member. For 22 years, Janet devoted her time and energy to Bosom Buddies of Georgia, as well as The American Cancer Society, Georgia Cancer Foundation, Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition, The LIVESTRONG Foundation, Susan G. KomenÂŽ, and many more. When Bosom Buddies of Georgia ceased operations, Janet’s heart told her to continue her important work. In addition, Janet was named 2012/2013 Business Woman of the Year by The National Association of Business Women. Janet, her small staff, and more than 150 volunteers at The Breast Cancer Survivors’ Network, Inc., offer free help to those in need. BCSN project The Hope Closet offers patients with limited funds or no insurance wigs, bras, breast forms, scarves, turbans, surgical kits, and more, all free of charge. Janet’s organization also provides funding for mammograms and medical travel. BCSN’s funding comes from private donations, grants, and through partnership with organizations such as Clothes Less Traveled, Tickled Pink Club, as well as from corporate sponsors, including Panasonic. Annual fundraising events includes BCSN’s own 1-Day Walk, and donations from the Peachtree City Rotary’s annual Dragon Boat Races. Janet is involved in spreading the word about early detection at health fairs and speaking engagements, and informing patients and survivors about all that BCSN does at more than 20 monthly supports groups all over Georgia. Through these numerous outreach and educational programs, Janet and her BCSN program work toward their goals of detecting cancer earlier, getting patients the care they need, and helping cancer survivors live longer, healthier lives.

Head down to River Street and walk the wobbly, 200-year-old ballast stones the colonists repurposed from the holds of incoming ships (because Savannah has no rocks native to the city).

For lighter fare, The Public House offers a caprese salad that will fuel your walk without weighing you down. Become an art owner at City Market, which survived from the 1700s to become a modern center for creatives and their wares. Head over to Broughton and walk through The Paris Market for chic upscale decor. Or, if you’re a little edgier, go to 24e and decorate your home with handcrafted furniture, airplane parts, and used military ordnance. (Somehow, it works.) Of course, there’s no real need to head into Savannah with an itinerary at all. You could simply drive into the middle of town, spin around three times, and walk in whatever direction you end up pointing. You’d VWLOO Ć QG JRRG VWRULHV JUHDW IRRG DQG IDVFLnating architecture. Imagine the ideal mountain getaway: watching the sunrise over glistening, snowy, mountain peaks, feeling the rush of wind against your cheeks as you ski through picturesque terrain, spending the evening winding down in a hot tub with a glass of champagne. The stunning landscape alone is enough to make us book our next trip to the Rocky Mountains, but the splendor of Colorado’s most luxurious resorts is what really seals the deal. For many ski lovers, the Rocky Mountains of Colorado offer the ideal conditions for both an amazing getaway and the ski adventure of a lifetime. Colorado native and avid skier, Charles Harrington, has been skiing for about 23 years. Harrington has traveled to ski destinations around the world. For him, it’s not just the exhilaration of the sport that draws him to skiing, but also the thrill of breathing in the crisp mountain air and experiencing its natural wonders. “My favorite thing about skiing is getting to be in the mountains. The sport itself is extremely satisfying, but there isn’t anything as satisfying as the energy of the mountains,â€? says Harrington. “I’ve been skiing for all of my life – so much of the thinking, planning, and reacting is automatic. When I am skiing a new terrain or UXQ IRU WKH Ć UVW WLPH , DP VFRXWLQJ IRU REVWDFOHV and trying to get a lay of the run so that the next time I do it I can incorporate jumps, rail slides, or just execute a faster, more exciting run.â€? :KLOH PRXQWDLQ OLIH FDQ EH Ć OOHG ZLWK thrills and adventure, when it comes to the spoils of mountain living, the indulgences are plentiful. “It’s an awesome experience to wake

up, eat a well-prepared breakfast, walk to the gondola outside, have a day on some of the best powder and steepest terrain in the country, and then come home to a bottle of champagne in the hot tub, says Harrington. For more than 50 years, Vail, Colorado, has been a winter vacation destination drawing skiers and mountain goers in for its crisp alpine air and fresh white snow. People come from all around the world to experience the mountain magic. Although skiing may be what Vail is known for, it doesn’t stop short when it comes to luxury. According to their website, The Sebastian - Vail – A Timbers Resort, was recently listed as one of the “Top 100 Hotels in the World and among the “Top Resorts in Europe and the U.S. Annie Lynch, corporate director of sales and marketing, told us all about the wonders of luxury resorts like The Sebastian. “As you walk in, you’ll see some incredible things that are very different from other lodges. Ours is very hip, warm, very social, and much more modern in its interior. The gathering spaces are focused on art, says Lynch. Vail is a small but vibrant town, and its warm energy thrives in places like The Sebastian. People not only come to visit, but they keep coming back – whether it’s for an adventurous ski trip, a family vacation, or a romantic rendezvous. “The way the property was put together and the internal ambiance make The Sebastian unique. There’s also mountain access right at base camp which is ski-in/skiout, and on-mountain ski valets so you never have to pick your equipment up, says T H E E L I T E L I F E MA G A Z I NE

Lynch. “There’s just so much going on to get away and relax. From a luxury standpoint, the concierge gets access to the best places in town, you don’t have to do any planning.â€? No matter how you choose to plan your escape, most people who visit Vail agree there is something special about the town. In the winter months, when skiing and mountain sports are at their peak, it’s as if you have access to your own personal wonderland. “The town of Vail itself is world-renowned and obviously ski has been its primary focus, but there’s also great shopping, dining, and culture,â€? says Lynch. “With all the extra ambiance, they’ve really done a great job so that all the senses are touched.â€? Vail isn’t the only destination in Colorado to offer the ultimate-luxury ski experience. Aspen, Colorado, is known as America’s most famous mountain town and it certainly holds up to its reputation. May Selby, director of public relations at The Little Nell, $VSHQĹťV RQO\ Ć YH VWDU Ć YH GLDPRQG VNL LQ VNL RXW KRWHO JDYH us some insight into why The Little Nell offers the quintessential luxury mountain experience. )URP ERDVWLQJ $VSHQĹťV RQO\ Ć YH VWDU UHVWDXUDQW (OHPHQW with a 20,000-bottle wine cellar, to romantic amenities such as couples massages and an all-natural spa, there are so many ways to be pampered at The Little Nell. For adventure seekers and ski lovers, the ski day can start as soon as they step foot out of their hotel room. “As the only ski-in/ski-out property in Aspen, guests have the luxury of walking out The Nell’s back door to start their ski day,â€? says Selby. “The Little Nell’s Ski Concierge is located at the foot of Aspen Mountain, just steps from the Silver Queen Gondola. Services include equipment storage, boot warming, putting on and taking off boots, issuing lift tickets, scheduling lessons, picking up and returning rentals, shipping and receiving personal gear, and fueling guests with coffee, tea, and pastries.â€? For some, it’s not just about fabulous skiing. Luckily, no matter the season, Aspen has a variety of activities for guests to enjoy. “Aspen offers world-class cuisine, high-end shopping, interesting museums, art galleries, theater and music performances, and exciting events and festivals year round,â€? says Selby. “Summer activities include hiking, road and mountain biking, rafting, ND\DNLQJ VWDQG XS SDGGOLQJ ĆĄ\ Ć VKLQJ horseback riding, golf, tennis, paragliding, hot air ballooning, and four-wheeling. Winter activities include snowboarding, ice skating, snowshoeing, snow tubing, and biking.â€? It’s easy to see why people are so enamored with Aspen. Tony DiLucia, general PDQDJHU DW WKH +RWHO -HURPH $VSHQĹťV Ć UVW luxury hotel), fell in love with Aspen and says there’s just something special about the mountain town. “You really get a sense of community and destination, all while being in a chic setting,â€? It’s very welcoming.â€? When it comes to skiing, DiLucia explains that ski-in/ski-out isn’t the only way to go. “When you’re right here in the core of downtown Aspen, everything is right out your front door. DiLucia describes Aspen as a magical place. “There’s a lot of character when you walk the streets of this town. There’s a ton of culinary choices, unbelievable restaurants and bars. Great shopping, amazing art galleries, and one of the most beautiful art museums you’ve ever seen. And everything is pretty much walking distance.â€? There’s also a thriving mountain culture to experience when visiting Aspen. “It’s been around since the 1880s. There’s a history and a culture here and a mix of so many people,â€? says DiLucia. “It’s really a magical place.â€? 36
