EMERGENCY ALERTS

In the event of an emergency, Ensworth will communicate with parents through our automated alert system via phone call, text message, and email. We use this same system to communicate with parents when school is delayed or closed due to inclement weather. You will receive an email in the fall with instructions for setting up your emergency contact information.

Ensworth uses Vidigami.com to privately and securely store and share photos of daily school life. Parents will receive an email in August with instructions on setting up a Vidigami account so they can access Ensworth’s albums.

Summer Information

SCHOOL FORMS & STARTING SCHOOL INFORMATION

Resources for starting school next year, including necessary checklists, forms, and links, will be available in May on the school website. After logging in, go to the Resources tab and select the block titled “Starting School 2022-2023.” Please complete all necessary forms by their stated deadlines.

HEALTH FORMS

Student Health Forms can be accessed and downloaded from the “Magnus Health” portal on the Resource Board. Please note that students must have current health forms on file at school in order to attend summer athletic practices, orientation activities, and school year classes.

TEXTBOOKS

In Grades K-8, Ensworth provides all textbooks necessary for course work. In Grades 9-12, parents purchase textbooks for their students according to their class schedule. High School parents will receive their students’ schedules in early July and may order textbooks from Textbook Hub (Ensworth’s official textbook vendor) or another source. Instructions for ordering books from Textbook Hub are included on the “Starting School 2022 - High School” Resource Board.

SUMMER ATHLETIC PRACTICES

Information regarding summer athletic practices and workouts for Middle School and High School athletics are available at ensworth.com/athletics.

UNIFORMS

Mills School Uniforms and Lands’ End are official providers of Ensworth dress. Mills uniform items may be purchased at 204 Ward Circle, Brentwood TN 37027 or online at millswear.com.

Lands’ End uniform items may be purchased by phone at 1-800-469-2222 or online at landsend. com/school, ID code 9001-0210-4. Items not purchased from Mills or Lands’ End must fulfill the school’s Dress Code requirements and may not contain any logo other than the Ensworth logo. Details regarding Regular, Formal, and Casual dress are articulated in the Ensworth Handbook (available on the Resource Board).

P.E. & Fitness uniforms are provided for students in Grades 4-12 and will be issued when school begins in August. Students in Grades K-3 wear their regular uniform during P.E. class.

TIGER BUDDIES AND MENTORS

Families of new students in Grades K-8 will be paired with a Tiger Buddy family, a current family in the child’s grade who will offer assistance in the months leading up to school. Incoming students in Grades 9-12 will also be matched with a student mentor assigned by the Student Life Office during orientation.

Community Events

The Ensworth calendar is full of opportunities to connect with other members of the community. In addition to the many arts events and athletic competitions throughout the year, there are also occasions that bring together all Ensworth families, as well as gatherings organized specifically for Ensworth parents. Listed below are some of these community-building events.

PARENT NIGHTS AT ENSWORTH

Parent Nights provide important startof-school information and give parents an opportunity to hear from school administrators and meet teachers.

PARENT GATHERINGS

The Parent Association hosts casual, gradelevel parent gatherings in the fall and multi-grade gatherings in the Spring. Details will be sent out through emails and E-News closer to these events.

HOMECOMING ALL-COMMUNITY TAILGATE

Ensworth hosts an all-community tailgate in conjunction with the Homecoming celebration. The picnic is held on Frist Campus prior to the football game and includes dinner, music, and children’s activities.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

The Pancake Breakfast is a long-standing Ensworth tradition. Grade 8 students, parents, and faculty prepare breakfast for the Ensworth community, and proceeds from the ticket sales are designated to a special project chosen by the students.

GRANDPARENTS DAYS

Each campus hosts a Grandparents Day where grandparents are invited to visit classrooms, tour the school, and enjoy student performances.

TIGER NIGHT

Tiger Night, the largest social gathering of the year for Ensworth parents, raises funds for the Parent Association and the school.

SUPER SATURDAY

Super Saturday is a fun, family carnival day at Frist Campus that includes a Tiger Trot, cake walk, dunking booth, inflatables, food and more.

Ensworth Terms/Glossary

AFTERCARE: An extended care program offered for students in Grades K-8 from 3:00–5:45PM on weekdays.

CAPSTONE: Program that offers students in Grade 12 the opportunity to engage in an extensive exploration of an academic passion that lies above and beyond courses normally offered at the high school.

FRIST CAMPUS: Name for the High School’s campus, which houses Grades 9-12.

E COOKIES: Delicious sugar cookies with orange icing and black iced “E”s. They always disappear quickly.

ECL: Elective Community Life (High School) School-initiated and instructor-driven extracurricular activities that contribute to the life of the school. High School students are able to select the activities in which they participate. Includes newspaper, yearbook, clubs, athletics, and arts ensembles.

HARKNESS: The Harkness method is a student-initiated and student-led discussionbased teaching and learning method at the High School where students and teachers conduct class around a large, oval table.

HOOKUP: Afternoon pickup routine at the Lower/Middle School. A hookup map and instructions will be included in Starting School information.

HOUSE COMPETITIONS: At the beginning of freshman year, students at the High School are assigned to one of four “houses”: Integrity, Morality, Truth, and Vitality. Students participate in house competitions throughout the year to earn points. At the end of the school year, the team

with the most points is awarded the coveted Devon Cup.

ORANGE & BLACK: More than just Ensworth’s school colors, they are the basis of a long-standing spirited tradition that dates back to the 1960s. When students are in kindergarten at Ensworth, they are assigned to the Orange or Black team, and they remain an “Orange” or “Black” throughout their time at the Lower/Middle School. Family members are always assigned to the same team, adding a generational element to the tradition.

PCL: Prescribed Community Life (High School) Mandatory activities that contribute to the life of the school beyond coursework. Includes advisory, assemblies, class meetings, etc.

RED GABLES: Name for the Lower/Middle School Campus, (Grades K-8), derived from the school’s defining architecture.

SERVICE LEARNING: The service learning program promotes service to the school and broader community and involves research and writing components, grade-level projects at the Lower/Middle School, and the reservation of one service learning day per quarter for High School students to perform fieldwork.

SIP (MIDDLE SCHOOL): Supplemental Instruction Period, a free time set aside during the day for Middle School students to use as needed.

UMBRELLA POLICY: Guiding policy at the High School that the total amount of programmed time for each student not exceed 55 hours/week, including all time spent in preparation for and participation in curricular and extracurricular activities.
