#JusticeForKillua: A Dog Was Beaten To Death After It Went Missing by
Heleina Lourisse Tolentino
#JusticeForKillua trended on social media after Killua, a three-year-old golden retriever dog was found lifeless in a sack after it went missing and beaten to death on a Sunday morning March 17 2024 in Bato Camarines Sur ina Rachelle Arazas the dog owner stated that Killua was
Vnot beside her when she woke up, so they started looking for the dog around 6 a.m
“Alas-sais po ng umaga nagising po ako wala po si Killua sa tabi ko Kasi po tabi po kaming natutulog niyan so bale around 6 a.m po hinahanap po namin siya Arazas said in an interview with GMA News Online
Arazas posted on her Facebook account the CCTV footage which shows the dog being chased and hit by a man and gained 2.3 million views and 120 000 reactions
Arazas also posted a video clip wherein she confronted the person behind Killua s tragic death Anthony Solares She asked who killed Killua and why the dog was in a sack Solares admitted he sought help in beating the dog to death and putting Killua in a sack
Arazas then asked to see Killua so Solares took the dog out of the sack lifeless
According to Solares, it was not his intention to kill Killua However he killed the dog because they were bitten, and he was afraid that his spouse would get bitten
Arazas said that Killua s brutal death was not justifiable even if he had bitten anyone
In another Facebook post, Arazas stated that she could not give an update to everyone and could not disclose any information But she ll make sure to get justice for Killua and stop the killing of animals in their area
“Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng sumusuporta kay Killua para sa laban na ito at sa lahat po ng nag aabot ng tulong Killua is probably happy na madaming nagmamahal sakanya aside from his family she wrote
Arazas also wrote that they are now in contact with the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) which assisted her in filing a case against Solares
Solares may face charges for violating the Republic Act No 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act 1998, which states that any act of animal cruelty is punishable by imprisonment or fine with six months to two years imprisonment a fine of one thousand pesos to five thousand pesos or both depending on the court s discretion

The CEIS-Malolos Guidance, Counseling and Testing Office
(GCTO) has kept support from students and successfully conducted multiple activities over the last year: Group Dynamics and Career Awareness Fair along with the launch of the Peer Facilitators 20232024
The latest activity of the GCTO is the Career Awareness Fair 2024 was conducted at the Centro Escolar University (CEU)-Malolos Centrodome last February 15-16
Students from the 10th to the 12th grade were invited and required to participate
Attendance from the graduating grade 12 students was set as a partial requirement for their Work Immersion class
The two-day event aims to provide the students with valuable insights from experts in their aspired fields and explore booths set up by different departments of CEU, spearheaded by the marketing department
Resource speakers took center stage on day 1 sharing their experiences and testimonies
Featured in the event were Former Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan Dr Edhel Tripon, Engineer Arcadio Sulit, Mr Joselito Hautea, and Professor Ariel Bastro
Departments of various colleges in CEU-Malolos prepared educational materials and activities such as a vitamin supplement giveaway and napkin-folding activity on day 2
Earlier this year during the months of January and February the GCTO conducted a series of Group Dynamics activities with students from the 6th to the 9th grade
BS Psychology students from CEUMalolos facilitated the activity as part of their internship program led by Nievera the guidance coordinator of all three campuses of Centro Escolar Integrated School (CEIS)
The guidance office also maintained the Peer Facilitators group and has already conducted several projects
"Selected individuals will undergo training that will equip them with the necessary skills and experience to help fellow students adjust to their current conflicts and issues " reads an announcement on Microsoft Teams
The guidance office has been working toward the welfare of the students prioritizing their mental health personal development and career concerns
The GCTO’s goal is to assist the students to discover their aptitude and interest and find solutions to their academic, behavioral, and personal concerns
Lea Nievera CEIS Guidance Coordinator
The coordinator explained that students go to the GCTO to seek advice and other information to aid them in the pursuit of their goals in life
We offer services that are designed to help the students attain one s maximum self-realization she added
She emphasized that they are here to assist and guide the students in their achieving their endeavors
Their doors are always open, for walkins or scheduled consultations
Earlier this year, an announcement was posted on Microsoft Teams on the procedure to schedule consultations or any of their other services
The GCTO has maintained a stable program within the last few months: “Students are availing our services ” they reported
Students now visit the office freely to seek assistance and consult without hesitation the students appear to be comfortable when they approach the staff, comprised of guidance coordinator Maria Lea Nievera and psychometrician Issa Lorraine Ballena
During those days Our Lady was present through this image not as a standard of battle but the symbol of peace Not as a talisman for good

fortune, but the plea for justice.” ani Villarojo
She further elaborated that the proposal intends to make it more convenient and comfortable to accommodate stakeholders A wider office space area will also make it easier for them to handle group consultations since the present space is quite narrow
The GTCO once again reminded that the office is active and offers various services such as routine interviews counseling career consultations, testing, and parentstudent conferences and consultations
The guidance office expressed their wishes that Escolarians will continue to cooperate and support their programs
We will propose that our office have counseling rooms and a mini lounge revealed Nievera
The guidance coordinator also disclosed their plans going forward

Loudly Silenced, 38 Revolutions Later
by Precious Sabine Pinto
38 years constitute 38 revolutions made by the Earth around the Sun, but only one major revolution comes to mind every February 25th.
Internationally respected and acclaimed as a peaceful protest
the People Power Revolution held on February 22-25 1986 along the roads of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) was definitely one for the books
It was a bloodless way of overthrowing the dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr and his family from the top, resulting in the family fleeing to Hawaii and the Filipinos finally achieving their well-deserved freedom after two decades of atrocities
38 years may seem distant but in contemporary times with another Marcos in the presidential seat the revolution remains as extant as it was
February cannot come to an end without celebrating the anniversary of the revolution on the 25th regardless of what day it falls on
However 2024 becomes an exception as the Malacanang Palace issued Proclamation No 386 last October 2023 with the anniversary of the revolution nowhere to be found in the list of regular and special nonworking holidays This mirrors the way Marcos Sr used the law as a dirty medium in manipulating power all for himself and thereby violating the rights and welfare of many
ILLUSTRATED BY Ervin Russel Galang
Such a tactic may also function latently as a means of distracting the masses with the Charter Change (ChaCha) a widely used term to refer to the amendments or revisions in the 1987 Philippine Constitution
Various proposals made by the House of Representatives are circling the archipelago with the filing of RBH7 (Resolution of Both Houses No 7), a ‘near-clone’ of the predecessor RBH6, only proposing a few
In the eye of the tiger, accepting silence is not an option
A month after the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Office of Student Affairs (OSA) censorship over TomasinoWeb’s viral photo Ma Cecilia Tio Cuison the OSA Director is taking a medical leave
Now that OSA is under the leadership of Asst Prof Jaezamie Ong they plan to communicate with student organizations and address the policies surrounding the Campus Journalism Act This chain of events happened after a house resolution was passed with the intent to investigate the university s student rights violation
The resolution was made possible through lawyers from the Makabayan bloc and representatives from several parties it is composed of narratives regarding the repressive actions
byArabellaMishulani
OSA made that deprived students of joining student organizations and expressing campus press freedom Kabataan Partylist Rep Raoul Manuel highlighted that there is a pattern in many educational institutions displaying campus repression
The now-deleted photo from TomasinoWeb displayed a group of students from the College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS) entering a Seven-Eleven convenience store
They were wearing their type-B uniform which highly resembled the convenience store employee uniform
Though intended for a harmless laugh, the OSA perceived it as a humiliation for students After this censorship, TomasinoWeb president Jan Zamora explained how the deletion was not justified, but as the head of the organization, he knew they had to avoid repercussions
amendments on economic provisions to open up international interest The topic became another focal point of the protests marched by thousands of Filipinos to commemorate the anniversary
When Filipinos from all walks of life successfully campaigned 38 years ago, it served as a gentle reminder and promise to not elect another dictator in position, let alone another Marcos
In an administration where most officials use their power to conduct unethical activities we must remain as vigilant as ever
The Palace explained that the anniversary of the EDSA Revolution falls on a Sunday coinciding with the rest day for most laborers hence there is no major socioeconomic impact in declaring it a holiday
ILLUSTRATED BY Carnaley
Avril Geronimo
The issue resulted in a nationwide discourse especially when the adviser of TomasinoWeb, Leo Laparan II resigned halting the organization from doing their activities
Numerous student protests were conducted at the university all asking for the termination of the OSA director and assistant
As the oldest university in Asia UST has had Christianity embedded in the university s decision-making
However, their recent behavior in this censorship proved their elitist stance The National Union of Journalists
However, one should focus less on the economic side of the holiday, but more so on the story behind the holiday as reverence for the true and astute Filipino spirit that is still fervently burning even after all these years
Despite the countless attempts of repression we need to keep our eyes open and leave it as it is for the next years to come regardless of whether a Marcos descendant is still in the seat or not
We should remain critical in pointing out both the subtle and loud misdeeds forged by the current administration
History may first appear repetitive but not when we learn something from it
The sun is still aflame and the heart of the protest is still looming large
We must go on with our lives tucking the thought of the protest deep within our minds as life is just an unending revolution
Today is the golden age to fight for what is truly right; look out for today commences the revolution of our lives
However, the consistent violation of students’ freedom of expression is more in control now, rather than putting attention on the student body matters
Though Cuison’s medical leave is a temporary solution their decision was a result of learning about a possible probe into the university
For now we can anticipate how the new OSA director will deliver their plans for ensuring a safe space for student journalists and organizations
The only question is whether they’d let go of their colonial and oppressive conventions or not Philippines (NUJP) explained how UST a catholic school, should uphold the dignity of work and honor the workers contributions to society
Not in a way they’d be ashamed of being compared to convenience store workers Their actions highly contrast with other educational institutions like De La Salle University in which they expressed their commitment to upholding press freedom at the campus level
On the other side, OSA, like any other school, wants its students, those they influence, to be free from shame by restricting their campus
In hopes that House Resolution 1633 will make its way to a committee hearing may Thomasian journalists reclaim the liberty of voicing their opinions free from the restraint of the university administration Allowing democracy to run and therefore truth to prevail
The role of campus journalism emphasizes the importance of being an articulate critical and vocal individual But with campus repression slowly shattering that light we must learn that campus journalists' passion will remain untouchable if we defend it

What purpose does history serve if not for the realization
of learnings that come along with our ancestors’ abuse and oppression?
The EDSA People Power Revolution has long been down the history books since 1986, but the causes it championed remain an issue until now
The Charter Change (ChaCha) Movement is a reform that seeks to amend the 1987 Philippine Constitution
Its proponents have been advocating this mainly for economic provisions that will allow 100% ownership among foreign investors and businessmen
Certain questions regarding its legitimacy and transparency have been raised, however, as the opposition sees this as means for politicians to extend their term and establish their power through a parliamentary government
Ironically the very surname that Filipinos fought hard to overthrow in 1986 oversees the country’s political landscape once again In a vicious cycle of events the constitution that breathed with Marcos' downfall is on the verge of breaking under Marcos’ jurisdiction
Appropriate resistance must be held to prevent the constitution that holds sovereignty and balance from falling apart
To amplify the need for resistance it is important to understand that charter change is not necessary to address the country s economic concerns
Laws allowing foreign ownership of public utilities and services have been passed through the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the amended Public Service Act
More importantly, there is no certainty that the proposed Constituent Assembly will only tackle the economic aspects of the constitution, given the scope of power given to them If implemented, the ChaCha movement will only invalidate the courage and solidarity

“What is at stake now is our future, so we’ll just separate,”
showcased by those who battled against dictatorship and championed progressive change
Senator Risa Hontiveros previously pointed out that the campaign is triggered by hidden agendas and power struggle and warned against the trap of political maneuvering
PHOTOS FROM Geocities ws and Rappler News
hidden underneath the idealness of it all the political dignity of our country
Ultimately the past shall never remain in history books alone The narratives and principles that have been shaped then must continue to compel good change in our society particularly if it concerns
Perhaps the proponents of ChaCha should ensure that the people s initiative remain as the voice of people and not of those who simply wanted to perpetuate themselves in power

What is the purpose of your position if you’d rather serve a criminal than the people?
ILLUSTRATEDBYAltheaNinaChozasofAlakdan
LMarch 19,
The arrest warrant is a result of his failed show cause order and absence from the senate hearing regarding the allegations of human trafficking sexual abuse financial fraud and violence
Before the contempt of arrest against the pastor proceeded there was an objection led by Sen Robin Padilla along with Sen Bong Go Sen Imee Marcos, Sen Cynthia Villar, and Sen Mark Villar
However they failed to assemble eight senators required to dissolve the contempt order Still the number of politicians willing to discontinue a motion to arrest a wanted man by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is quite unsettling
According to Sen Padilla the probe into Quiboloy and KOJC contradicts the 1987 Constitution principle regarding the separation of church and state But that is proved wrong because the resolution does not prohibit public officials from conducting an investigation even if it invades religious beliefs and figures
PHOTO FROM GMA News
Amidst the subpoena order to Quiboloy an audio recording was published wherein the “appointed son of God” claimed he had a bounty on his head which made it difficult for him to attend the public hearings as he was being targeted by the FBI He also questions President Ferdinand Marcos Jr if he cooperated with the FBI to locate him
The allegation was denied by PBBM which continues to advise Quiboloy to submit himself to better prove the allegations false
Meanwhile, Sen Bato Dela Rosa offers his support for him as a one-man security team if he ever presents himself at the senate
From their statements these politicians express their support for Quiboloy in a manner that they ignore the validity of his human rights abuses
Aside from the senators Vice President Sara Duterte and former President Rodrigo Duterte took part in a prayer rally earlier in March supporting Quiboloy
VP Sara was also quick to subvert her views supporting Quiboloy and his company network, Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) after her statement describing the senate investigation as a trial of publicity and that suspending the SMNI franchise as a form of media freedom issue”
She also highlighted the lack of credibility because of the anonymous witnesses part of the hearings last January A new addition to the issue of Duterte s support for Quiboloy was revealed by the KOJC when they proclaimed the former president as their property administrator
With such an unbreakable tie Hontiveros pointed out how much Quiboloy trusts Duterte as someone to manage his properties According to Quiboloy s legal counsel Ferdinand Topacio Duterte s expertise as a seasoned lawyer sets him ideal as the administrator This prompts money laundering issues between the two
No politician can be called a public servant if they would rather serve their friends and not the country that voted for them The experiences of KOJC s victims are minimized by the same politicians who vowed to be “makatarungan at maasahan” in their campaigns
A victim by the alias of Amanda was only a minor when she was made to believe that massaging the pastor was a privilege Former KOJC member, Alias Jerome said the church prohibited dating and he was tortured as punishment These narratives were a result of Quiboloy s weaponization of religion as a means of abuse
In the United States, Quiboloy and other personnel in KOJC and a paralegal have been indicted since 2021
Though they were never arrested, hopes for extradition rose as a California judge unsealed the warrant against the pastor which oftentimes signals the first step for an international arrest as reported by GMA
When searching for justice has become an obstacle course in our country we have to reach out to an international authority to assist us This describes how immensely tarnished our justice system is
Our system can still be cleansed if the right leaders have been elected As the 2025 midterm elections approach let this issue on Quiboloy’s senator guardians be a reminder of why we should vote for more effective politicians who can rightfully serve the country
Our government no longer needs politicians who weaken the sovereignty of the nation Additionally we don t have to mistake authoritarian leadership for someone who makes progressive actions ethically
What the Filipinos need are more of those who are willing to be a beacon for the oppressed and illuminate their path to justice

Athan the curtain of sleep The pop alchemist Ariana Grande has revived the scene with her seventh studio album "eternal sunshine " and has transformed her many triumphs and tribulations into music
Returning from its namesake film this heavenly return offers a chance to rewrite the narrative not just rewind it
Featuring Grande s trademark soaring vocals and an eclectic collection of synth-pop melodies, the album shimmers with the usual brilliance of her previous efforts However a desire to descend into the murky recesses of one ' s soul reveals a newfound depth behind this aural glitter
The record which alludes to the 2004 film starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet has a title that suggests polarity It alludes to a wish to put previous wounds in the past and erase them Nevertheless, the optimistic tone of sunshine implies a strong desire for a more promising tomorrow The juxtaposition of light and dark is present throughout the whole listening session
A love that, though broken, leaves an everlasting glow on our souls is the subject of this somber reflection on transience and memory The recurring themes of love sorrow and life are hinted at in songs like "Saturn Returns Interlude " a celestial interlude featuring astrologer Diana Garland
The reflective trip that Grande has on bespeaks an extent of maturity that surpasses her years which is a clear indication of how her experiences have influenced her public persona
by Precious Sabine Pinto
PHOTOFROM RollingStone
One of the album s standout tracks " we can't be friends (wait for your love) " ignites the album with a bittersweet synth-pop explosion
Its music video a clever nod to Grande s acting chops reunites her with Evan Peters in a story that mirrors the album s central theme While the visuals pay homage to the film's exploration of lost love through memory erasure the leads find a happier ending
By the closing shot, they re not clinging to the past but embracing new beginnings content in the arms of others
This optimistic twist could be interpreted as Grande's own yearning for reconciliation a plea to the media to rediscover the love they once held for her
Gone are the days of portraying carefree indulgence eternal sunshine throbs with an unflinching honesty that feels wonderfully natural
Whispers of a tumultuous past linger – a past painted in tabloid headlines, a kaleidoscope of love and loss, a whirlwind romance that blossomed into a fleeting marriage
ThePerformedSelf
Grande doesn't flinch from the wreckage; instead, she alchemizes it into art
Due to this transparency the album goes beyond being merely an assortment of notable songs and becomes a work of art

First impressions last; you only have one chance to make a first impression As students we must set a standard for ourselves We need to make a good impression so that others will understand the character we are creating In life we have two stages: the frontstage and the backstage We choose how to present ourselves before an audience However not all the time we show our true selves
Sometimes we only serve what the audience is hungry for not what we can offer
What the audience sees is our public life the frontstage and how we present ourselves to their liking The backstage on the other hand remains unknown It is our private life
A student’s silent battles are not seen when presenting oneself
People only care about the outcome of the performance and not the preparation which makes students do their best for the people to be proud rather than for themselves to be happy and enjoy themselves
In a student s life it is customary to be ecstatic every time we receive high grades and good critiques from teachers and classmates
It is also valid to feel down and upset when we don t meet the expectations set for ourselves Academic validation is when a student relates their worth to their academic performance It is when one ’ s selfesteem and character are tied to one s academic achievements
Recognizing a student s performance paves the way for maintaining their motivation and commitment to their work
Positive recognition develops a student s character and encourages success
With this we can be certain that students will respond with more determination and persistence
On the other hand negative perceptions tend to crush a student s feelings easily
Whenever one receives a lousy critique on their performance they often lose sight of determination
Throughout a student s journey, there have been several occasions where students value their grades more than their well-being
Students are enclosed with the thought that school is just for the grades and not a ground to manifest other skills and talents
Seeking academic validation puts students under too much stress and pressure since they want to exceed the expectations of others and themselves
The carefully crafted facade of pop celebrity is beginning to crumble, and her fans are no longer merely enthralled by her singing prowess; they are being dragged into her inner sanctuary
Much like a diary the album is a whispered confession shared with millions With eternal sunshine Grande has redefined her sound and the essence of what her future releases hold We can no longer expect the same sugary pop and saccharine confections of yesteryear
Instead we eagerly await the next chapter in this celestial saga which promises to be as captivatingly vulnerable as it is undeniably brilliant each one a cosmic event in its own right
As the final track reaches its quiet end a lingering warmth embraces the listener It's a subtle shift in perspective - vulnerability once perceived as a weakness, now burns brighter than any celestial body
“Grades don’t define me. ” If they don’t, then what does?
Instead of school being a fun learning environment it becomes a place for competition and stress
With all of this in mind we can be certain that who we are in school is not who we are We have created a new face inside the classroom walls that we can hardly call our own
After the final act it is finally time to meet ourselves backstage However we cannot differentiate our character on stage from who we are backstage
As the curtain falls after the final scene we find it impossible to remove this mask This character has taken over our souls making us prisoners of our thoughts
“We must choose our selfpresentations carefully, for what starts out as a mask may become your face” – Erving Goffman
We get caught up in the illusion that life is a play It does not matter how long it lasts but how well it was played
As students, we should care about how fulfilling an act is Your worth is not defined by the loudness of applause from the audience the sound of cheers or the beautiful symphony of the orchestra
What matters is the number of people who show up as you perform not to pressure you but to see you enjoy yourself as you present yourself
Moving forward we must remember that it is all right to create a character to mask our authentic selves but we should always consider taking it off to live the life we have backstage
of events that
interest
magic of the theatre is felt as soon as we enter the room As the lights go out and the curtain unfolds we are unraveled into a series
capture our
ntering school
all the possible characters you get to
stance and poise
look
idea
is like entering a theatre; you never know
meet We notice the characters
costumes and overall
which gives us an
of who they are before spitting their lines However we should consider that their character on stage does not define their character backstage

CEIS PUTS THE SCIENCE IN CIENCIA Y VIRTUD
by Roi Victoria and Samantha Deray
Centro Escolar Integrated School (CEIS)-Malolos have participated in various science and technology competitions over the last two months: the 9th Philippine Robothon, the Philippine Biology Olympiad (PBO), and Tagisan 2024.
The 9th Philippine Robothon and PBO’s quarter-final eliminations were held on February 4.
9TH PHILIPPINE ROBOTHON
For Robothon, the junior high school (JHS) participants: Lord Benedict Janda, Maria Franchesca Santos, and Chryzander Jed Melecio, senior high school (SHS) Team 1: Andrey Benyx Cabrera, John Constantine Tan, and Jerome Joematrio Bautista, SHS Team 2: Carlos Amaranto, Tobit Morilla, and Aaron Tayug, and their coach, Ms Jennie Orpilla reached St Paul College Pasig in Pasig City to participate in the 9th Philippine Robothon’s Mini-Robot Challenge (MRC)
They were allotted two hours to implement their pre-programmed code into a provided pre-built robot
The objective of the challenge is to complete various tasks given in advance, allowing for countless tests and numerous iterations of solutions This tactic encourages the participants to seek multiple ways of approaching the problem
The hard work of each entrant paid off as the JHS Division received an MRC Distinction Award for placing as 3rd runner-up Moreover, the SHS Division received the same award for team 2 as 2nd runner-up and team 1 as 1st runner-up
Bautista, from SHS team 1, briefly described their experience during the preparation and competition for the event
“Sobrang tagal ng preparations, pero hindi over prepped, sakto lang,” he said in an interview
“Narefine namin to the point na mas maganda yung code over everyone,” he added
The CEIS team spent immense effort in optimizing their code, staying on campus grounds until 7 PM on some occasions
“Mas maganda talaga code namin, siyempre kami gumawa eh,” Baustista kiddingly remarked as the interview concluded
Unfortunately, CEIS only managed to enter the MRC category for this year Late announcements due to internal communication issues obstructed the participants from joining the Innovative Open Category (IOC) despite starting the conceptualization process and team selection
Orpilla expressed frustration regarding this matter, mentioning that she hopes it will not happen again
Robothon is a competition supported by First Eduspec Inc (FEI), a company that promotes 21stcentury learning essentials through inventive Information and Communication Technology programs delivered to various institutions
With the theme "FUTURE (Filipinos in Unified Technologies, Unveiling Robotics Excellence)”, this year’s Robothon aims to foster the youth's ambitions as they resolve community issues using innovative methods Their preparations lasted for several weeks, and getting pulled out from class on the last few days before the competition
TAGISAN '24
Weeks later, on March 22, eight representatives from CEIS-Malolos participated in Tagisan ‘24, hosted by CEIS-Manila
The CEIS entrants, Math-Sci Team 1: Joanna Chiney Kaye Santos, Roi Edan Victoria, and Jerome Joematrio Bautista, Math-Sci Team 2: Andre Guevarra, Samantha Deray, and Keith Anderson Argonza, Spelling, Precious Sabine Pinto and Althea Nina Chozas, and Mr Raymond Carlo Mendoza drove to Centro Escolar University (CEU)-Mediola to compete
Pinto and Chozas were named among the Top 10 Finalists for spelling, the only category to receive distinction awards Pinto is also the reigning spelling bee champion after she emerged as the victor of the previous CEIS-Malolos sportsfest
“Latest results on the tally before access was restricted show SciMath Team 1 at the 16th spot,” said Mendoza, who chaperoned the contestants
The participants were satisfied with what they achieved: “10-minute prep, not too shabby,” said Victoria Deray, however, expressed light dissatisfaction with the preparation. She noted how the invites were sudden, given that the timeframe until the competition is less than a week
“Imagine kung months yung preparation” Deray added She was okay with the results, given the circumstances, noting that her statements were born out of curiosity
PHILIPPINE BIOLOGY OLYMPIAD
Hopping onto Quezon City, CEIS representatives: Reizel Nicole Mendoza, Keith Anderson Argonza, Nicaseah Art Balog, and Rein Shandris Sillano, along with their coach Mr Ralph Joseph Lopez arrived at Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) to ignite their minds as they compete for the 7th Philippine Biology Olympiad
The list of the semi-finalists was released 21 days later on February 25 55 students from various institutions were announced to be qualified to proceed to the semi-finals to be held on March 15
Reizel Mendoza, one of the participants, was among the Top 55 Finalists making her qualified to return to ADMU and compete for a spot to participate in the Finals
Along with her coach Mr Lopez Mendoza competed last March 15-17
Educational activities, such as an amazing race and a wildlife tour followed the competition proper Mendoza failed to secure a spot in the Top 20 Finalists Nevertheless, she remains one of the institution's pride and joy
Lopez commended Mendoza’s efforts in a personal message forwarded to the publication: “Nevertheless, she did a great job these past few days ”
Mrs Teresita de Leon, assistant principal to CEIS-Malolos, also commended the preparations and training undertaken by Mendoza She noted witnessing the great efforts spent by the semi-finalist on reviewing and studying materials within the scope of the competition
Published on their official website, PBO 24’ reflects the theme SULONG, a Tagalog word for "advance," "forward," and "progress" that serves as a reminder to put life sciences above all, first
“SULONG demonstrates how a progressive approach to science leads us the students, scholars, and scientists-to-be to difficult challenges but also to better opportunities and learning experiences,” posted on the same website
The PBO is a national competition requiring the participating schools to select four partakers from 7th to 12th grade in a battle of the brains to boost their interest, passion, and awareness of Biology
The Top 4 students who emerge as victors of the PBO will represent the country in the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) which will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan
All in all, the participants agreed that they had a fantastic time: “nag-enjoy kami, chill lang, the experience was worth it,” they exclaimed on the way back to their home campus
The competition is an annual inter-high school event hosted by the Honor Society of CEIS-Manila to promote intellectual competence via competitive and collaborative activities
Tagisan: Infinite Horizons aims to encourage academic brilliance and collaborative mastery through friendly competition among multiple schools across the Metro,” posted on the CEIS TAGISAN 2024 Facebook page
Participation in these contests offers a platform for students to showcase their skills, apply their knowledge in practical settings, and push their intellectual boundaries
Exposure to a competitive but supportive environment encourages the development of global perspectives and cultivates a thirst for knowledge and innovation

Tulad nalang ng aktres na si Emma Watson na nagsalita sa mga karapatang pantao ng mga kababaihan I think it is right that socially I am afforded the same respect as men " pero kahit na tayo ay magpursigi sa pagkamit ng pagkakapantaypantay na tingin ng tao sa babae at lalaki, "there is no one country in the world where all women can expect to receive these rights dagdag pa niya

On Writing; A Collection
What does writing feel like?
Picking up a pen and then
That was what writing felt like at first Back when I was just a child I dreaded writing assignments making random lines on paper
How could anyone enjoy writing?
The ache in your hand once you finish a barely comprehensible squiggle of lines that were supposed letters and symbols that meant little to nothing other than smudges of carbon on paper
Words And I never understood them nor felt them until I got introduced to books
Paragraphs of words made of recognizable shapes and lines I learned in school never seemed very appealing
Reading was a chore and I believed there was little to no joy that could come from just paragraphs of words until I picked up a story and read I felt them then
I felt the words come alive right before my eyes as the prince fought the dragon as Mama Bear made delicious-smelling honeyroasted chicken as a little girl fell in love with butterflies fluttering in her heart
What does writing feel like? It felt like pain and satisfaction and excitement
Instead of assignments I wrote the stories I loved to read
I was too young for a laptop but a pencil and paper were just enough to keep me going I wrote of Gods and Dragons and Golden Apples
I was proud of what I worked on My hand ached but I was satisfied that I have finished a chapter and was excited to share it with the people around me
The pain was something I cherished and enjoyed but because of the things I did, none of them ever gave me as much joy as writing did
I did not detest the ache in my hand, learned to love it, and continued writing It was the satisfaction of finishing a story
What does writing feel like? It s like a defiance against destiny, a rebellion against the very fabric of the universe
But can rebellion ever be silent? Can one oppose something and remain silent or does that equate to doing nothing at all?
After pouring out stories unraveling the mysteries of the night sky and uncovering the secrets of the universe wouldn't it all be meaningless if kept hidden?
Through writing and sharing numerous stories I've come to understand a crucial lesson: every story serves a purpose

Some challenge established beliefs while others ignite the imagination of budding storytellers No story should be withheld; all are worthy of being shared
What does writing feel like? You do not know yet When mine feels like a mirror, yours may feel a roaring fire, roaring its destruction and passion to the world
When mine feels like naming stars yours may feel like digging deep into the the earth
When mine feels like a rebellion yours may feel like watching the start and end of the very cosmos But you do not know yet
There are so many seas skies galaxies stars and universes you have barely scratched the surface off Be willing to leap into those stories those ideas that seem too big, too abstract and breathe life into them because you and you alone are the only ones who will be able to
To me, writing is pain, and satisfaction and excitement It is a mirror of myself a map of my soul and an offer to bring you to a place that has never existed
But now, you must answer this question on your own What does writing feel like to you?
Abright future awaits aspiring students who want to pursue
quality education in our country especially those who are less fortunate and cannot apply to prominent expensive universities
College entrance exams are a term that strikes fear and nervousness in students The fate of each one s future lies within the results itself
It seems like the stars aligned for me
tonight The University of the Philippines will be holding its UPCAT on August 10th and 11th 2024! I have got to give it a shot
Those days of reviewing were among the hardest The preparation and anxiety were definitely for the books but I had to continue for my future and dreams!
My heart pounds almost out of my chest as the day I have been waiting for arrives: the UPCAT 2024 is today Adrenaline rushed through my veins as I breathed; here goes nothing
After the exams I honestly did not expect anything I did not know if I passed or not but who knows? I think luck will be on my side
But suddenly an email came to me that night UP sent it! I did not dare open it I kept staring at the notification for hours, and fear crept up in my mind as I started to become more anxious
Then I decided to open it; there was nothing to lose, right? While holding my breath I clicked on it without looking Once I finally opened my eyes to see the email I could not believe what I saw
“Congratulations! You have been accepted into the University of the Philippines
My whole world stopped I felt joy, excitement, glee, and tears in my eyes all at the same time I just got into my dream university! I screamed with all my heart, feeling all my emotions at once
As I looked outside my window, I could see the stars Huh well it seems the stars collided in my favor tonight

Once upon a time a familiar council of emotions reigned
supreme within the bustling city of Riley's mind
Joy the charismatic mayor kept things running smoothly But whispers of change rustled through the swarming avenues
New faces with furrowed brows and envious glances began to appear at the city gates
It seemed adolescence a mischievous imp with a kaleidoscope of complex emotions had arrived at the doorstep of Headquarters and the established order was about to be delightfully disrupted
Inside Out is a 2015 animated movie produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures
This film, directed by Pete Docter, implies the inner workings of Riley s mind, a young girl who adjusts to her new surroundings as they relocate while five emotions regulate her thought processes
These emotions joy sadness disgust fear and anger navigate multifaceted lanes of emotions within young Riley's mind
PHOTOFROM DisneyMovies
As this film prepares to pique our imaginations once more "Inside Out 2" will be released on June 14 2024
Headquarters is suddenly razed making way for unanticipated freshmen: new emotions! They are Anxiety Envy Ennui and Embarrassment each with different colors
Anxiety with its gnawing sense of unease and Envy with its green-eyed visage of longing speak to the universal experiences of longing and apprehension
Meanwhile Ennui that pervasive sense of listlessness and Embarrassment the crimson cloak of social discomfort offer insights into the trials and tribulations of adolescence
These newcomers represent the tumultuous years of adolescence when the once-clear emotional landscape becomes a kaleidoscope of uncertainty self-doubt and social anxieties
It's a period where fleeting friendships can morph into agonizing betrayals fueled by Envy's barbed whispers and a single misstep can trigger a crimson tidal wave of Embarrassment
Inside Out 2 bravely delves into this emotional minefield acknowledging that these "negative" emotions often relegated to the shadows are as crucial as their jubilant counterparts
But why is a children's film venturing into such complex territory?
The answer lies in the very essence of childhood – a period of vulnerability and exploration
Inside Out 2 serves as a vital compass navigating young minds
through the confusing currents of adolescence
The film allows children to acknowledge and understand these often uncomfortable feelings by personifying these emotions
It normalizes the roller coaster ride of emotions offering a safe space to explore the anxieties that keep them up at night and the Envy that may flicker when a friend receives a coveted gift
The movie serves as a link between children and adults, encouraging compassion and fostering empathy across generations
Through the lens of vivid storytelling it provides an insight into the unspoken conflicts raging in the minds of the young connecting gaps with affection
This sharing of encounters fosters a kinship that surpasses age inviting interactions that light up the mysterious journey of growing up
It's a beacon that glows on the shared trajectory of human emotion directing us to the place where one ' s heart speaks and we truly listen to the resonances of young adulthood
“Ring, Ring ”
The alarm clock resonated as it marked the start of the day May
The skies are clear and painted in blue favoring the glamorous event that is bound to happen in a few hours My excitement can t be contained; heaven knows how much I ve waited for this day to come
Oscars of Fashion that s what they call this event commonly known as the Met Gala A day when all A-list celebrities gather for the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art s Costume Institute s fashion exhibit
It may seem like it’s all about extravagant gowns and famous fashion celebrities, yet behind everything lies the heart of it all
The charity Met Gala covers the fundraising for sustaining the Metropolitan Museum of Art s programming, conservation, and research
It contributes significantly to how people are enabled to visit and experience the power of art Met Gala s fundraising and purpose are no joke It tends to raise millions and sometimes above
It even came to a point where the funds reached the sum of eight figures Well it s not that impossible since each ticket to the Met costs around 35 000 dollars with tables ranging from 200 000 to 300 000 dollars
These are all bought by designers and brands that we buy our goods from
It’s a dream come true to be here in Metropolitan New York City, embracing the warm weather and the beauty of the green It is indeed springtime
This is the perfect season to enjoy and sightsee the flowers and plants growing before your eyes
Now I realize! This must be the reason for this year s Met Gala dressing theme!
byWendyAmorPineda
This year s theme exhibition is Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion." It was meant to revive fashion history and promote the use of natural materials to make certain designs
With these in mind it has come to attention that the Met Gala also aims to focus on the sustainability of fashion and to look back on the evolution of human history
Also aligning with the spring breeze is the theme dressing Garden of Time
As I made my way through the fashion exhibition my eyes were feasted and full with the 250 significant pieces displayed before me What caught my attention the most was the Elizabethan bodice and a silk satin ball gown dating back to 1877
A masterpiece by the American couturier Charles Frederick Worth It is truly a mesmerizing sight to see Met Gala, you never fail to amaze me!
Beep Beep!" car sounds screamed in my ear taking me back to the present Stuck in the traffic with the heat and pollution embracing me What a dream you truly are Met Gala

As I sit here staring blankly at the screen before me the
cursor blinking tauntingly against the stark white canvas of my word processor, I find myself grappling with a profound sense of exhaustion that transcends mere physical fatigue
It is a weariness of the soul a bone-deep weariness that no amount of caffeine or willpower can alleviate I am a student and I am burnt out
Amidst the frenzied whirlwind of academic life it often feels as though I am adrift in a tempestuous sea buffeted by waves of deadlines assignments and expectations crashing relentlessly upon me
Each day becomes a battleground a constant struggle to keep my head above water amidst the onslaught of lectures readings and exams
The pressure to excel looms ominously lurking behind every grade and award whispering insidiously in the recesses of my mind
But beneath the facade of productivity lies a darker truth one that I have long struggled to confront: I am exhausted depleted running on fumes
Burnout, like a silent specter, haunts my every waking moment, casting a shadow over my oncevibrant dreams and aspirations
A thief of joy robbing me of the passion and enthusiasm that once fueled my academic pursuits
The signs of burnout are all too familiar: the creeping sense of apathy that colors my interactions with classmates and professors the gnawing anxiety that torments the edges of my consciousness the deep weariness that settles into my bones like an unwelcome guest
And yet I suffer in silence terrified of admitting weakness or vulnerability in a society that values honor and power above all else
But the truth is, I know, I m not alone Across campuses worldwide, students like myself grapple with the relentless pressure to excel, sacrificing their mental and physical well-being at the altar of academic achievement
We are caught in a vicious cycle of overwork and underrest our worth measured by grades and extracurricular activities rather than the depth of our learnings
To my fellow students, I offer these words of encouragement: You are not defined by your achievements or your failures, but by the courage with which you face adversity and the compassion with which you treat yourself and others
In the face of burnout, may we find the strength to seek help when we need it, to extend kindness to ourselves and others, and to cultivate a culture of empathy and understanding in our communities
And to the institutions that shape our academic experiences I beg you to heed the silent cries of your students to acknowledge the toll that burnout takes on their mental and physical well-being and to take concrete steps to address its root causes
For a university that prioritizes the health and happiness of its students is not only a beacon of academic excellence but also a bastion of compassion and care
In the shadowy depths of burnout I have stumbled and faltered lost in the labyrinth of my own exhaustion
But in sharing my journey I have found solace and solidarity in the voices of others who like me grapple
with the weight of academic expectations and societal pressures
Together we stand as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit forging connections in the crucible of our shared struggles
As I gaze into the uncertain horizon of my future I am filled with a glimmer of hope a flickering flame that refuses to be extinguished
For in the darkness of despair there lies the seed of possibility the promise of renewal and redemption
And so I choose to believe in the power of resilience in the capacity of the human heart to weather even the fiercest storms and emerge stronger more whole than before
In the end let us remember that burnout is not a sign of weakness but a symptom of systemic flaws in our societal structures
It is a call to action a rallying cry for change a reminder that our worth is not contingent upon our productivity but on the depth of our humanity
And so let us rise together hand in hand heart in heart as we journey towards a future where students thrive not just merely survive

hat question never failed to leave the conversations had T noise I held intense resentmentat this new feeling
between me and my peers from my former school during August the beginning of the new school year Pink kasi yung uniform
My answer would always be met by cheeky giggles Frankly, I never had a serious reason to transfer schools, aside from the fact that I wanted to wear pink uniforms and walk around a campus adorned by the cute color
The first time I stepped foot into our classroom is still vividly embedded into my memory as if it just happened yesterday
Awkwardly trying to twist the cold door knob with shaking hands was a struggle as I tried to make not a single decibel of the
Whenever I entered my old classroom I was met by the warm smiles of my former classmates Now I was met with cold gazes from unfamiliar faces of strangers whom I had never spoken a single word to
New is predictably the best word to describe my initial feeling toward this school When we talk about material objects new is used in a positive light New bag new pens new notebooks
These were all the things I had that were new
But when we talk about intangible objects, things take a turn: new teachers, new classmates, new subjects all of which are far from what I used to know, far from what was my comfort: my home, my former school
My school life became a clean new slate with everything I held dear to me wiped off: that was what transferring schools meant to me
And, for a while, I never wanted anything new to stain the slate that I had because nothing will ever top what I had in my former school.”
But it wasn t long before the cold gazes turned into broad smiles the school hymn I once didn t sing along to suddenly carried a catchy tune the awkward introduce yourself to the class sessions sprung enthusiastic talks about getting to know one another s backgrounds the deafening silence in the classroom was shattered by loud laughter; it wasn t long before the unfamiliar strangers became family
I found genuine happiness in this school, and this happiness led to confidence; confidence that pushed me
I participated in a quiz bee I made new friends I joined The Escolarian Without this newfound confidence you would not be reading this article right now
For the past 7 months, this school had not only a place for learning The new memories and experiences I went through built a foundation of my identity atop the slate I had, helping me shape who I am and will be in the future
I feel nothing but gratefulness to this institution and the people in it for pushing me to try new things
The problems our section encountered along the way served as a crucible from which new friendships bloomed I may have to step out of my comfort zone and try all things “ new ”
had a shallow reason to study here but the principles this school stands with and my classmates rather my new family gave me a deeper reason to stay
Masamichi Yaga from Jujutsu Kaisen said “Education is making people realize things.”
CEIS not only taught me academic lessons it also made me realize that there is so much more to life I have yet to experience and shying away from these new opportunities by being stuck in the past will only hinder me from growing
So if there s one thing I can tell upcoming newcomers this next school year it would be to just do it

Tsurvived polio and spent the latter 70 years of his life in an iron lung passed away on March 11 in Dallas Texas
Paul's death was announced on Tuesday on a GoFundMe page set up to aid in his finances for housing and healthcare
Philip Alexander his brother noted that Paul died on Monday afternoon at the age of 78
He had been hospitalized last February for COVID-19 but was said to have recovered and returned home
The actual cause of his death remains unclear although multiple sources claim that he died of natural causes or old age
Paul was born in 1946 in Dallas Texas He contracted polio when he was six years old in 1952 during a major outbreak of polio in the United States
This resulted in his body being paralyzed from the neck down Since then he has been confined to an iron lung that kept him alive He even published a book albeit being paralyzed Paul Alexander self-published his
Eight years he spent writing the book relying on a plastic stick and a pen to key the characters on a keyboard or by narrating it with external assistance
In January of this year Alexander started a TikTok account He posted videos discussing his life and experiences with the iron lung
His account has accumulated over 330 000 followers before he passed away
Ventilators and respirators became widely available during the late 20th century allowing many who relied on the iron lung to be subjected to physical therapy and have greater mobility
Unfortunately Paul Alexander's body had adapted to rely on the iron lung to function
He found that he was no longer able to function without the iron lung for long periods, even with modern technology
After Paul s death Martha Lilliard became the last living user of the iron lung She was first put in an iron lung in 1953 after being severely paralyzed by polio akin to Alexander's case

Have you ever found yourself stuck in traffic, wishing that
your car could just fly? Sounds like a scene from a sci-fi movie huh? Well buckle up because technology isn’t leaving our hopes hanging in the air; it’s about to take us to new heights! Soon, we will welcome the future of transportation the eVTOL aircraft
As the Philippines faces an increasing population and heightened urbanization, significant challenges arise to the transportation systems of the country Traditional roadways and public transit infrastructure are proving inadequate for addressing urban mobility issues which has led to the introduction of a new solution: the eVTOL aircraft
These cutting-edge technologies offer a hopeful avenue to provide more flexible navigation of urban environments and overcome the constraints of traditional transportation systems
Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing aircraft also known as eVTOL is an aerial vehicle capable of landing and taking off vertically in limited spaces rather than rolling down a runway
Unlike helicopters which use fuel-powered engines eVTOLs are powered by electric propulsion systems and come in different shapes including hybrid planes with wings and multiple propellers
These features hold the key to advancing aviation technology and mitigating the longstanding issue of traffic congestion
Adding to this promising transformation is the anticipation of the soon-to-be arrival of eVTOL aircraft in the skies of the Philippines
Recently the Philippine News Agency reported that Lilium, a Germain air mobility firm, plans to launch its first Southeast Asian network in the country
This groundbreaking announcement follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Lilium and PhilJets a local aviation services firm signed on the 20th of February at the Singapore Airshow
The collaboration aims to establish a network of eVTOLs to revolutionize transportation in the Philippines and other parts of the ASEAN region
The company intends to bring Lilium Jets the first electric vertical take-off and landing jet with an innovative blend of aerodynamic design and versatility to the country
Lilium's Chief Commercial Officer Sebastien Borel expressed excitement about the strategic partnership stating that the Philippines is well-suited for eVTOLs to efficiently connect its thousands of islands through sustainable and high-speed air mobility
As part of the agreement, PhilJets has committed to purchasing 10 Lilium Jets that are set into commercial service in 2026
In light of this, what benefits can we expect fromusingeVTOLjets?
One of the primary advantages of Lilium Jets is their eco-friendly nature as they produce minimal noise and zero emissions during flight Given the Philippines' ongoing environmental concerns the incorporation of these aircraft aligns with the country's dedication
to resolving ecological issues and fostering a more conservational future
Furthermore the arrival of Lilium Jets in the country has the potential to redefine the urban mobility landscape Commuters can expect faster and more direct travel options that avoid the strain of road congestion This introduction not only marks progress in technology but also resolves the practical challenges faced by Filipinos in their daily commuting experience
Beyond addressing urban congestion
Lilium Jets hold promise in emergency response and medical transportation Their ability to access remote locations efficiently makes them valuable assets in critical situations, which can improve the effectiveness of emergency services and healthcare delivery in the country
However, with innovation comes the need for careful consideration of potential challenges Adapting aviation regulations developing appropriate infrastructure ensuring public acceptance and maintaining affordability and safety are key hurdles to the implementation of Lilium Jets in the Philippines
Despite these complications a collaborative effort between the government regulatory bodies and local communities to create solutions and further develop the functions of eVTOL aircraft can pave the way for the country s success in urban air mobility
In conclusion, the approaching arrival of Lilium Jets in the Philippines is more than a technological milestone it is a step toward the country s commitment to sustainability innovation and adaptability to evolving transportation
The sky is no longer a limit but a vast canvas of opportunities for a new era where the fantasy of flying cars is turning into a part of our reality

There is a groundbreaking development in the medical field once again!
It seems impossible but scientists have figured out
how to print a brain using a 3D printer which works just like a real one
In recent years scientists have effectively employed 3D printers to integrate cells and various substances in fabricating living tissues Yet, producing a realistic brain that works like a real one has been a challenge
However researchers from the University of WisconsinMadison have recently figured out how to modify printing techniques so they can print and combine various types of cells to mimic the signaling process in the human brain
According to the study s corresponding author SuChun Zhang this model could be a hugely powerful tool to help us understand how brain cells and parts of the brain communicate in humans This could also change the way we look at stem cell biology neuroscience and the pathogenesis of many neurological and psychiatric disorders
The researchers aimed to create a layered neural tissue wherein neural progenitor cells (NPC) could mature and establish connections within and between layers while preserving the structure
To achieve this they selected a fibrin hydrogel primarily composed of fibrinogen and thrombin as the bio-ink or biomaterial utilized for tissue printing
This choice was made due to the biocompatibility of fibrin with neural cells Both fibrinogen and thrombin are involved in the blood clotting process
Researchers encountered difficulty printing a model due to the high viscosity of fibrin
They resolved this issue by mixing fibrin with a hyaluronic acid hydrogel which resulted in a high survival and maturation rate of NPCs placed into the mixture Introducing an additional hydrogen softened their bio-ink compared to previous versions
The softened bio-ink enabled the cells to reach out and form connections with each other
Moreover the gel provided the necessary strength to maintain the cohesion of the brain tissue layers
In contrast to conventional 3Dprinting methods where material layers are stacked vertically the researchers opted to horizontally stack their gel
This approach resulted in thinner layers ensuring the cells within them received optimal exposure to oxygen and nutrients
Despite the cells remaining within their designated layers neurons established functional connections in and between layers within two to five weeks after printing
The printed stem cells developed into full-fledged neurons and glia, which formed networks resembling those found in the human brain and they even communicated with each other via chemical messengers called neurotransmitters
The printed cells that normally belong to different parts of the brain –such as its outer layer or cortex and the striatum, which is involved in decision-making – also formed connections with one another
The researchers acknowledge that the new model still has flaws For instance the gel s softness prevents printing multiple layers simultaneously as they would collapse without allowing the gel to set in between
This slows down the printing process Additionally individual layers are constrained in thickness due to the cells’ nutrient requirements, consequently limiting the overall tissue size
Zhang stated A model is a model not the real brain.” Nonetheless the team is actively working to tackle these potential pitfalls and improve the technology moving forward
The researchers also highlighted that their approach provides precision in selecting and arranging cell types which other organoid and printing methods lack
The printing technique does not necessitate special equipment or culturing methods to maintain tissue health, making it accessible to many labs
The printed model of brain tissue could also serve for studying cell-to-
cell signaling in Down syndrome exploring interactions between healthy and Alzheimer s-diseaseaffected tissue testing new drug candidates or observing the brain’s developmental process
The groundbreaking advancement of printing a realistic brain tissue model using 3D-printing techniques marks a significant leap in medical research
This breakthrough unlocks numerous possibilities for studying various aspects of brain function neurological disorders and drug testing
Although challenges persist, researchers ongoing development assures further progress and deeper insights into the complexities of the human brain
This innovative method holds great potential to enhance our comprehension of neuroscience and pave the way for new therapies and interventions in the coming years

How does modified pork taste? A recent tudy by a company called
Genus conducted genome editing just this month to combat swine diseases and ensure the quality of pork products
Pork is one of the most common ingredients for global delicacies but its sources can be prone to pigrelated illnesses like Porcine Reproductive Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS)
PRRS or blue-ear disease is a deadly virus discovered in the United States of America in 1987 This may not affect certain pigs but it can cause pneumonia in piglets, as well as reproductive failure and a weakened immune system in adult pigs
There are vaccines present to aid yet it is proven not to be 100% effective Overall a whopping $560 million worth of hog products are lost annually due to PRRS according to the World Organization for Animal Health
To prevent its further spreading genus executed gene editing on pig embryos from four common types of commercial pigs
Gene editing is a variant of genetic engineering that removes adds or alters DNA in a genome
Through that, they were able to remove the gene CD163 which is usually targeted by PRRS Then continual breeding was done until all lineage of pigs had it fully disabled
The company expressed its plans to green-lighting their pigs through FDA approval on or before 2025 for allowed importing into countries like China Colombia and Mexico as well as the selling of their PRRS-immune pigs' semen to make purely resistant pigs
To obtain that, however, Genus must prove that the processes done are safe, stable in terms of heredity, and effective in building immunity
The National Pig Association in the United Kingdom showed their full support for the company ' s plan considering the economic benefits it promises
Some animal welfare organizations disagree though stating that it leads to a more inhumane treatment of pigs

double celebration indeed for Women’s Month as
Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas knock the rings out, securing an Olympic spot after these two Filipina boxers emerged victorious in their respective divisions in the World Qualification Tournament held in Busto Arsizio, Italy, on Monday, March 11, 2024 (Tuesday, March 12, Ph time)
The 31-year-old Petecio will be ringing the Olympic bell once more after finishing in the top two of the women's 57kg division by a 4-1 split decision over Esra Yildiz of Türkiye
The Filipina boxer took a commanding 20–18 lead into the last two rounds prior to a finesse performance in her ring
Though all five judges gave Yildiz a full thumbs up in the third round, Petecio won the bout with scores of 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, and 28-29
Petecio had won the prior four fights by unanimous decision or stoppage, but this was her sole split decision victory
The Filipina boxer, who settled for silver after losing to Japan's Sena Irie in her golden bid, will repeat her unresolved business in the upcoming Olympics
Concurrently Villegas managed to finish in the top four of the women's 50kg division by unanimous decision following a thrilling fight against Zlatislava
Chukanova of Bulgaria
Villegas captured the nods of all five judges in the first two rounds,
but inadvertently incurred a penalty that paved a chance to Chukanova to bounce back to the game
Villegas may have lost control of the bid for a little while after being knocked out in the third round, but she stuck around to see the bout through
The female boxer from the Philippines even received two votes in the third round when she earned a tied position with a score of 29-27 29-27 28-28 28-28 and 28-28
If the scores of three or more judges are equal in a tied case, they are ordered to select a winner 28-year-old Villegas rose to the situation and won the tiebreaker decision The pride of Leyte will now represent the Philippines in her Olympic debut
“Kung ano ‘yung ginawa naming preparation dito, mas dodoblehin pa po namin para maka-secure po ng kahit anong kulay man po ng medalya ‘yan, kung ano po ipagkaloob ni Lord.”
The exact winning words by Nesthy Petecio, who is fiercely bound to take the Olympics stage
“Tiwala lang po talaga sa Diyos, sa sarili, sa coaches, and ‘yun din, para sa pamilya ko, sa bayan, sa mga kasamahan ko.”
Thankfully stated by Aira Villegas who is prompted to win in her first appearance in the Paris Olympics
The girl power duo became the fifth and sixth Philippine athletes to the Summer Olympics, raising the flag of their countrys pride and womens honor
They will vie the International games together with pole vaulter EJ Obiena who primarily qualified ahead, gymnasts Carlos Yulo and Aleah Finnegan, and fellow boxer Eumir Marcial
The Filipino athletes will conquer the podiums, hoping for finer results in the most prestigious sports event, the Olympics 2024, that will be hosted by Paris, France from 26th of July to 11th of August 2024

Pilipinas naming mahal
Ikaw ay nabiyayaan
Dilag na pinaglalaban
Liwanag mo’t katarungan
Siya’y puno ng kagitingan
Sa kabila ng dilim
Liwanag niya’y masisilip
Inihandog ang sarili
Para sa ikabubuti
Siya’y dapat na gayahin
Pamumunong di kurakot
Siya’y hindi natatakot
Sa kamay niyang maayos
Pilipinas na aayos
Sa kaniya tayo’y aayos
Matatag na dedikasyon
Kalidad na serbisyo
Pagbibigay inspirasyon
At mga sakripisyo
Siya’y ekstraordinaryo
Dapat siya’y tularan
Isang babaeng huwaran
Para sa pamahalaan
Puso’y walang katigasan
Puno ng pagmamahalan
Siya’y liwanag na dilim
Dapat na itinuturing
Siya’y isang magiting
Babaeng ubod ng galing
Liwanag na nananaig
Children dream being a hero
Like those characters in movies
Who turns the crime rates to zero
And powers against enemies
Well I dreamt of that too
I want to save other people
I want to have superpowers
But I know that’s impossible
These hands can only grow flowers
And bake tasty pie with apple
I am just a normal person
Who lives with just a simple life
Who cries while chopping an onion
Who cries with the cut of a knife
And who can’t even bend a spoon
I am just normal unlike them
I’m not strong enough to lift cars
Or save any other problem
I’m just a person full of scars
Not a hero with a tandem
This is only who I can be
But I’m not afraid to take risks
Just to save others around me
I’ll save them without metal disks
And all those risks are just for free
All I have is my bravery
Not powers, metal disks, and capes
Or a suit that is shimmering
I cannot shift to any shapes
But I’ll help full of empathy
Maybe I don’t need other things
To be called hero by the world
Maybe I don’t even need wings
All I just need is to be bold
And I can save other beings
In the end I had realized
A hero can be anyone
It’ll always make me mesmerized
How it could just be everyone
Who took the risk and never died

Ipatalsik ang panggulo
Sa ating kapayapaan
Nanakaw ang mga boses
Katotohana’y nakulong
Kaya kayang sabihin na
“Tahimik at masunurin
Ang mga tao raw noon ”
Magnanakaw! Magnanakaw!
Dugo at pera ’ y hawak n ’ ya
Asawa’y maraming paa
Tallano Gold, totoo ba?
Mga tao’y sawang sawa na
Ang presyo ng kalayaan
Sakit at kamatayan
Nagdurusa’t nagdudugo
Sa mga hamon ni Apo
Kaya’t sila ay lumaban
Sa mitsa ng pagbabago
Boses ng mga Filipino
Dahil sa mga nakipagbaka
Ang ating kalayaan ay Natamo noong Pebrero
Tatlumpu’t walong taon nang
Lumaban tayo sa EDSA
Nakamit ang kalayaan
Palagi nating tandaan

As I look outside the window
I see my mom open the door
Putting the plastic bags below I hear her say “Here, have some more. ”
She served me a bowl of lugaw
Mom, I can feel your swollen hand, As you put it right on my neck.
Performs a temperature check
Your eyes, somewhat teary and sad “You still have fever This is bad ”
Each day and night you care for me.
Each day you prepare me a meal
After my school you welcome me.
Each night you and I hug to feel To feel and touch your love with glee.
I hope I can stay forever
Forever in your arms, mother
But today I am there, no more.
As I see you cry on the floor
I died May one, nineteen o four
Why did this day came so soon Lord?
I wished to be with my daughter
The one who I love and foster
Please tell me this is a nightmare.
Please wake me up This, I can t bare.
Walking home now feels so alone
I see her jumping while walking My world without her feels nothing I remember it all too well Her spirit is still here, somewhere
As I look inside the window, I see no one I opened the door
Putting the paper bags below, I said reminiscing, Have more I served myself a cold lugaw
I walked into her empty room
Everything in here look so gloom
There was a letter on her bed I opened the letter and read
The title said “Moms are heroes ”
“I love you so much dear mother ”
“She’s my hero and I love her ” I am twelve, but do not worry “I’ll take care of you, so be merry ”
“Truly yours, Your lovely daughter ”
