Walker’s girls tell us they fell in love with the all-girls environment, the beauty of our campus, and the empowerment of all girls in the classroom – providing many benefits including elevating academic performance and creating lifelong relationships.
Across every area of instruction, there is a strong emphasis on doing. The curriculum combines the broad-based foundation of liberal arts studies – science, math, history, English, world languages, and the arts – with electives relevant to the world today. Talented faculty bring the curriculum alive with discussion-based exploration and project-based learning. Walker’s girls are guided by the principle of the pursuit of integrity and take advantage of every aspect of a student’s life – academic, athletic and social – to reach their fullest potential.
Applying to Walker’s The Ethel Walker School accepts the Standard Application Online (SAO) or the Gateway to Prep Schools application. All students wishing to apply to Walker’s should visit the website (www.ethelwalker.org) to create an online admission account. Once an account has been created, follow the links to the SAO where campus visits are scheduled and and the status of your admission materials is tracked. The application deadline is January 15 and students are notified of decisions on March 10. Throughout the admission process, the Admission Team is pleased to answer any questions.

Walker’s Middle School Walker’s Middle School is a private day and boarding school for students in grades six through eight. As the only all-girls middle school in central Connecticut, we seek to establish four main ideas including a sense of wonder, possibility, and preparedness within a warm, supportive community.
Advanced Courses: Combining Rigor and Curiosity Walker’s advanced courses spark genuine excitement about learning, create real-world connections and allow for exploration. Our master faculty design a curriculum that is meaningful, rigorous and inspiring. A robust offering of advanced courses stretches students to become reflective, analytical thinkers who are motivated to direct their own learning. By designing our own advanced curriculum, we can offer a wider variety of subject areas without the confines of a culminating standardized test. Students, accordingly, are prepared to take AP exams if they so choose.
