a big chunk of family in FL for Thanksgiving, which was great fun, and we all swam in various races and won some blue ribbons. Even me, in the ‘80 plus’ division. The competition was HUGE. My Christmas was lovely, with a large family gathering which I did not host for the first time in 63 years!!!! It was lovely going to someone else’s house and enjoying the food. Hoping for a get-together with my granddaughter, Zuzu, and Joan “Joanie” Grafmueller Grier.

She was beloved by the whole class and was my ‘favorite tycooness’ as a very successful business woman and entrepreneur in the Wilmington area with her restaurants and the Inn at Montchanin. I know that all of us were deeply touched by her generous gift of a weekend there for our 75th birthdays. We made her husband, Danny, an honorary member of the class. They are both sorely missed.” In December 2019, Susan Susie wrote again: “Wes, the husband of Betty Flanders Foster, ‘took a bad fall and is needing help getting around.’ And it goes without saying, Betty is in control of all that. She has even made summer plans for them to spend four months in Meriden, CT. Their kids are pretty near, but still it’s a big job, especially for Betty. We wish you well and are awed by your resilience. And obviously EWS had a hand in that. Thank you Mrs. G and Miss Sala!!!!!” “My oldest grandson is being married in May in NYC. She updated us in a January letter, however, saying that she ended up missing Chris by a day, when Chris came to Florida, but she was able to see Jeannie, whose daughter, Cynthia, lives near Susie. Patricia “Trish” Sudler Stimpson reported to Susie that they are now in Florida. Trish’s family is fairly nearby, and Susie heard all about Trish’s daughter, Courtney, and Courtney’s juggling act of balancing life and her job as the head of her office in a national marketing firm. Although Roberta “Bobbie” Gerstel Bennett attended two funerals in Greenwich in 2019, she really enjoyed connecting with old friends from long ago. She sees Jeannie Ballantine Riegel in NYC frequently, which they both enjoy.

Give me a slow-moving, cautious old driver any time. My new car almost drives itself so that I can remain active at the Art Institute in Chicago and expect to be knee deep in election activities as we approach November.”Class Correspondent Betty Richards Tripp writes, “Reflecting our advanced age, most or all of us have been faced with the deaths of family members and friends. Recognizing this reality, I thought I would begin with the sad news of the loss of three of our classmates as well as two spouses: “Most recently, Barbara Mayer Marks died in a hospital near her home in Hillsborough, CA on December 22. Barb had suffered from MS for many years but managed to lead a happy and fulfilling life for most of the years. Barbara’s sons are creating a very personal obituary which the EWS Alumnae Office will forward when received. Frances “Frannie” Haffner Colburn

visited Barb in November when she was in nearby San Francisco. Frannie says that while Barbara had become increasingly frail, her ever-radiant smile and happy demeanor were very apparent. Not long ago, Karen Bisgard Alexander had a brief visit with Barbara between planes. Karen, too, wrote about her ‘perpetual smiling face.’ I shall add that I never knew anyone as constantly happy and appreciative of life as Barb, even when her MS symptoms intensified. Kathryn “Katie” Auchincloss Porter sent the sad news of the ‘death of my best friend of 59 years, husband Jim, on May 26, 2019.’ Katie says that she is coping, but it’s a difficult time and she is pleased that she is living in her retirement community. Take Note addition, you should have received emails from EWS reporting on the deaths of Elodie Huntley Tilney and Margaret “Muffie” Burden Childs. Sympathy and love to all those remaining behind. “It’s now been three months since I sold my house in Stonington Borough and moved a few miles northwest to Mystic, CT. It’s confusing, but half of what is known as Mystic is actually in the Town of Stonington, just as is Stonington Borough. The result is that except for moving from a house to an apartment, my life has changed very little. I now live in a retirement community, StoneRidge, in a sunny apartment with a southwest exposure — a very protected environment, especially nice for me after 30+ years of living in an elevated location exposed to offshore gale winds and battering rain all too frequently. I am keeping a low profile here, after many years of high community involvement. I find I still have one foot in my former community and the other foot in my new community. That will change in time, I assume. “No one is happier than my daughter, Amy, and her husband, Matt, about my move, since my requests to them for help with the many problems in an old house are now replaced with StoneRidge staff who provide a high level of service without dealing with a 19th-century structure. Amy and Matt’s son, my grandson Charlie, just returned from a semester in Beijing, studying intense Mandarin, with a two-week trip to Tibet and points in-between at the end of the semester. My son’s two sons live in nearby Rhode Island, so I am fortunate to see them during school/college vacations.” Karen Bisgard Alexander writes,

“Children and grandchildren dominate my life, as always. Their lives are just more interesting than mine at the moment, although I have met a very nice companion 78

who fortunately likes to cook and travel.” She and her family, ranging in age from nine to 83, went to Mexico City for the week of New Year’s. “2019 was a two-car year. No sooner had I replaced my car, which had been totaled by a hasty young woman, than a negligent young man crunched my new one. Patricia “Patsy” Kelly McCornack writes, “I moved

to the retirement community of River Mead in Peterborough, NH, which is probably the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and my family. Having my daughter, Nancy, and Dan nearby is awesome! The people I have met here are warm, friendly, intelligent, involved, and I’m loving every minute of it. I promised myself, ‘no committees or board assignments’ when I moved, and so far have been able to stick to that and just have fun. River Mead and Peterborough are both busy places and offer a lot of fine entertainment. “Earlier this fall, brother Walter from Colorado engineered a sibling gathering to visit my new digs and enjoy another family reunion. This, too, was awesome! “I still have my Martha’s Vineyard home and look forward to enjoying summers on the island with as much family as possible. If you are in the area (NH or MV) the door is always open!” Mary Stein Dominick-Coomer

sends fond regards as well her latest news: “Life moves along at its usual busy pace here in Aspen. Sven and I have been in the vicinity because his recovery from his knee replacement and heart scare has taken more time than expected to get us traveling again. Given that, I have spent time — lots of it—- composing and publishing my memoir: Eighty Years of Life, Resilience and Love which came out in mid-June. It was transcribed by my niece, Nancy Shohet West, a freelance

journalist and memoirist for the Boston Globe. It took us a total of three years to write and edit. For anyone interested, it is available on Amazon and through sending an email to: marysmemoir2019@ gmail.com. It will be mailed directly to you. Our local bookshop feted me with a lovely reception and reading, and then another one at our local public library before Christmas. “Meanwhile my three sons, their wives and grandchildren, ranging from six to 28 years old, plus three great-grandsons, are healthy and happy and gainfully employed in various careers at that age. I still ski downhill and cross country and hike moderately, plus I am continuing to work on my environmental board, Wilderness Workshop, and am involved with art and dance. So blessed with health and love. I do wish that some classmates would be in touch if venturing out to our area.” Helen Harvey Mills writes, “Had

fun in Santa Fe for the annual Fred Harvey weekend followed by a stay at the Castaneda Hotel — once a Fred Harvey hotel. It was super resurrected by Allan Affeldt and his artist wife, Tina Mion, in Las Vegas, NM. We took the train home to Chicago. Last year we went to Winslow, AZ, to the La Posada Hotel he brought to life. Glenn Shannon Whipple also went there [her notes on the visit follow Helen’s]. Allan is amazing and has made the places a must to visit. “I’m about to be in the arts club artist members’ show with a pastel, and I spent Thanksgiving in Portland, OR with daughter Brett. Travel is great, except the airplane part — now a product of pure greed.” Helen signs off with love to all.

on the 29th of January, 2019. Although I lost 10 pounds, I would not recommend it as a weight loss program! “Throughout this winter, I have continued to sing in the ENMU Community Choir as well as my church choir, and I attend one Bible study at the church and teach/lead another ecumenical one. I also continue to go to the gym three days a week. As we age, more ‘body maintenance’ is required! “We joined our daughter and her birder younger son in Marathon, TX, after they had spent two days in Big Bend National Park. Had a lovely dinner with them and then proceeded to get violently ill that night and spent the next two days in the hotel room, both in Marathon and Marfa. Not a fun trip! BUT, for our annual mother/daughter trip, we took a cruise down the Danube on the Uniworld Maria Theresa in May. It was a gorgeous ship, plus we were upgraded to a suite at no cost to us! A huge bonus. We spent a day up front in Munich and then several days at the end of the cruise in Budapest. We made some wonderful friends, and although the weather wasn’t perfect (it even snowed in Salzburg), we had a fabulous time. “In October, we spent a few days in Winslow, AZ at La Posada (a restored Fred Harvey hotel, grandfather of Helen Harvey Mills, my EWS roomie for two

Jack, their oldest (18), is planning on going to England for college. He’s a very confident and adventurous young man. My hat’s off to him. “We are still in our home up here on the ridge in Ruidoso. Our only concession to our age being that we did put in a gas log fireplace last winter. It has been a godsend…particularly for Oggie! Other than that, we have no plans to move to a retirement community, as of now! Both healthy and mentally sound (sort of!).” Ursula Bitter Ulmer, a

resident of Zurich, writes that after a strenuous autumn semester of teaching, “which turned out better than I’d expected,” she spent time in Majorca, visiting her son, Martin, her nine-month-old granddaughter, Luna, and Luna’s mother. Ursula’s description of Majorca is lyrical: “It is a really beautiful place here — better in winter than in summer, as it is green, and the green vegetation here is like a heroic rebirth because the summers are so dry and hot and somehow killing. Some desert-like spots have a paper-thin veneer of green — almost neon green — of the tiniest plants,

almost lichen. And it’s been very sunny and cold. The sea is dark blue to the horizon and the mountains like two arms reaching out on either side.” Pauline “Polly” Barnes Hester

writes, “We have no complaints: good health, still golfing in Palm Desert, CA, where we now live nine months of the year. Three months in Washington, near water, is our escape from the desert heat. We are definitely West Coast people, rarely getting to the East Coast, but I enjoy the class notes, reading all the activities of our classmates.” Katherine Somerville Steele

recently called Betty Richards Tripp with news of her children, two “up north” in New York City and Connecticut and one next door to her new house in St. Simons Island, GA. “Music hath charms and brings friends together!” writes Adrianne “A” Massie Hill. “Earlier last fall I had a delightful email and phone visit with Evelyn ‘Evie’ Lisle Rooney who lives in Washington, DC. She introduced me to a delightful young man who has just taken a position at All Saints’ Church, a large Episcopal parish, here in Atlanta. He is the Rev. Dr. Andy Barnett, both an ordained Episcopal priest, most recently at the Washington National Cathedral, and a lettered musician from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Andy played the piano at Evie’s 80th birthday party, and she said that he was just terrific. I met Andy for lunch, and all she said is correct! He is a delightful person and a great addition to the Atlanta music scene. Atlanta has a very large musical presence, especially in the Episcopal Church. Evie and I are also sharing husbands in their early 90’s and all that comes with that! family live on our ranch with our four delightful great-grandkids. It is a total blessing, to be sure. Doug [Linen’s husband] still finds himself feeding and caring for the livestock as our grandson also works on my daughter’s ranch and needs the help. I am having the time of my life playing both the mandolin and guitar in a bluegrass jam once a week. It is so much fun! “Our family members are very healthy and doing well in their various stages of life, which is remarkable with a family as large as ours,” continues Linen. “We are thankful and feel blessed every day. We have traveled a bit this last year and have plans for more, including a safari. Life is good.” From Seattle, Phoebe Haffner Andrew wrote that she was planning to take her family to Eleuthera for Christmas. As for me, Adrianne Massie Hill, Mal and I finally made a trip to Seattle, after having canceled the last two summers. It was delightful to step back into our former life there, visiting with many friends who made us feel very welcome. We revelled in the natural beauty of the city. Seattle is experiencing huge growth, and with that, attendant problems of traffic. Like Atlanta, the streets were made for fewer, smaller cars long ago, and so driving can resemble an obstacle course. Sixteen classmates participated. A second reunion was held in Rockport, MA. in September of 2019, with 12 attending. Thanks to all who helped to organize – especially Karen Brooks! I am so very glad

our new tradition of gathering as friends/sisters off-site has been so rewarding to everyone who has participated. And, like others, I encourage you who have not been, to take a leap of faith and join us. I’m not sure when the next reunion will be, but I am guessing it will be in Rockport again. So stay tuned and stay open to a new adventure!” “Walker’s came to North Carolina this year, at least in a small way. I had a fun and interesting lunch in September with Marion Paterson, Director of Alumnae Relations, and with four other local alumnae representing several generations. Elvira Cash Pecora and Mary Mountcastle had lunch with Marion shortly before this in Raleigh. Marion has been a consistent voice for alumnae and for the school for some time – not an easy task. I think we all appreciated an opportunity to hear more about the school but in an intimate fashion and close to home! “This has been a long year for me with lots of ups and downs – I probably sound like a broken record saying that. Biff (who is 80 in April of 2020) had a stroke a year ago, and though he is okay, our lives move much more slowly these days. I volunteer at our church and also for a local hospital. Compassionate care is something I seem to be good at and can give to others when I cannot solve all the problems at home. This work has truly been a blessing to me. “Meanwhile, our children and grands are still far-flung, and this year will bring many changes once again, including the birth of our 11th grandchild. (The other 10 are between one year old and 23!)” Karen Brooks’ latest news:

“Life here on the farm is always busy. I’m still working in spite of a hip replacement and another one soon, and still singing. Nice video on Facebook of me and the band doing Joni’s Woodstock at the last gig: https://www. facebook.com/lynne.cherry.98/ videos/10220398063849450/.

I’m loving that our class has been getting together outside of the school reunions, and so enjoy the depth of these get-togethers. Hoping for more. My youngest, Patrick, got married September 28 at the site of the Clearwater Festival (He and Kora met working at the festival.), and my daughter, Liza Burke Bates ’03 was there with her little guy, Charlie (my first grandchild).” Jill Englund Jensen says, “There

isn’t much new in my life. I am ‘retired,’ but I continue to work as needed in my old job and have taken on some new challenges with the Advanced Practice students at Johns Hopkins. I am continuing to travel and in January will (hopefully) cross another item off my bucket list: the Northern Lights. A January cruise to Norway will be interesting and cold. Prior to that, I was able to enjoy some warmth with a quick trip to visit family in Key West. I was able to spend a glorious evening with Beryn Frank Harty and [her husband] Rick. It was good to catch up on all the news from Sister Fest. I hope to make it to the next gathering.” “Mark and I are traveling as much as we can these days,” writes Aimee Gilleaudeau Lundy. “In 2018 we spent a wonderful month in South America, including a week in the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. This year we went to Australia and New Zealand for a month, including the Australian Open. We hope to return in January 2021. Next year, we are planning a five-week trip to the Mediterranean. When not travelling, I try to play tennis five or six times a week…. What can I say? I’m still very competitive. I’m lucky that I get to see my daughters on a regular basis. One lives in Cincinnati and the other in Chicago, but she comes home about once a month to visit. The unofficial reunions have been

fabulous. For those who have not been able to attend, you should do everything possible to join us! We are an amazing class of incredible women and the opportunity to reconnect should not be missed. My one regret is that we didn’t start these sooner.” Beryn Frank Harty writes, “Rick

and I had a lovely two-week visit with his 99-year-old mom at our house in Kissimmee, FL this summer, just before Rick helped her move to a new apartment/ assisted living facility closer to his sister in Louisville, KY. And, I got to visit with so many of you during our wonderful mini-reunion up North. (And also got to eat LOTS of LOBSTA!) Our Flying Scot sailboat is finally fully repaired since its damage during Hurricane Irma: new paint top and bottom, new rigging, new sails and new cushions. And, we’ve even been out on it a few times! Season is starting up for Key West, and we are looking forward to a very busy whirl of concerts and theater. Have already seen these shows: ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show,’ ‘Hair,’ ‘The Last Flapper,’ and ‘Sutton Foster.’ Hugs to all.” From Sarah House Denby:

“I had my left ankle repaired (a subtalar fusion) in April 2018 after a really bad sprain in 1976. So, after limping more and more as I aged, I finally found someone who did ankle repairs — it’s a fairly new field. It was a long recovery (no weight-bearing activity for nine weeks, then a boot) but it still amazes me that I can stand and walk and that ankle doesn’t hurt! Then, I started to feel aching in my right hip…. Turns out there was no longer cartilage in it (it had been doing all the work for 40 years), so I had a total replacement in June 2019. Amazing. I am now walking pain-free for the first time in forever and looking forward to playing tennis again (haven’t picked up a racket in 2+ years). So, that’s good! Hip recovery amazingly

fast — I tossed the walker after a week. I was feeling very chubby last winter so I decided to re-join Weight Watchers. I had lost 37 pounds about 20 years ago, and it just started sneaking back on…. So I re-joined January 31. I have now lost 38.1 pounds and gone down 2+ pant sizes (it gets very expensive, having to replace all my pants!!!) “My daughter, Lisa, [had] a baby on January 7, 2020 — a girl, and I am over the moon! I am a step-granny to two boys, but this girl is a game-changer. They live in Philly, too, so not too far. My son, Ted, is still working for Medtronic in Lausanne, Switzerland, and has a lovely girlfriend who is 6’2” (he is 6’6”, so they look normal until you get up close...) Since we go to Europe a couple of times a year, we get to see him fairly often. My husband, Charley, retired (after 41 years as an MD!) 12/27/19, so we can travel whenever we want! 2020 promises to be a great year. My mom will be 88 (actually 22, since she is a Leap Day baby) at the end of February, and my daughter and family are hoping to be in Chicago with me for a four-generation shot during the celebration. “Other than travel, I am playing golf on a regular basis and now hope to get back to tennis. I am also on a few boards here in Rhode Island, and still love to cook (and now I have another child to teach how!). Any visitors are more than welcome!”

Monkees, my favorite childhood band. I got an autograph and picture with Mike, which was a thrill, considering the last time I saw him perform was 52 years ago. How the time flies. Speaking of time, in December I saw “The Nutcracker” at Houston Ballet. Hadn’t seen a production in over 30 years. Glorious! More concert going: summer of 2019, I saw The Rolling Stones for the first time. I also saw The Who for the second time. The first was 50 years earlier, for their original “Tommy” tour in November 1969 at Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford during sophomore year at Walker’s. (Susan “Susie” Churchill Bowman says she was at that The Who concert too! Anyone else?) The only thing I’m doing for sure in 2020 is looking for a new apartment here in Houston. Hope everyone is doing well!”

I helped the ranch family herd 100 horses from their summer ranch in the mountains 50 miles away to Lovell, WY, where their winter pastures are. My best wishes to everyone!” Catherine “Cappy” Clark Shopneck writes, “I have had

so much fun reading the news from so many classmates, that I thought I would chime in as well. My husband, Bob, works full time and thankfully loves running his company. I am still very engaged on several non-profit boards in Denver that continue to be a big part of my life. We were lucky to have had some wonderful trips this year. We spent a week on a boat with friends in June, exploring the inland passageway in Alaska, and then in August, riding bikes along the Danube River from Prague to Budapest while staying on a beautiful boat that was our floating hotel. A lot of boats this past summer! Our sons are here in Denver, which is a blessing. Older son, Andy, and his wife, Kellie, have their hands full with ninemonth-old twins (boy and girl) and a two- (almost three-) year-old daughter. Chris, who got divorced two years ago, has a six-year-old daughter and three-year-old son. He has custody of his children 50% of the time and is a wonderful dad. All are well and thriving, and we feel so lucky to have them nearby.” Cappy concludes by writing that the family joined her and Bob at their ranch for Christmas. “I count my blessings every day,” she writes. Shortly after, had a wonderful time with Gilda Rogers when she was in L.A., accompanying her husband on a business trip. Then, Regina “Reggie” Scruggs, my former roommate, stayed with us for a few days on a quick visit to L.A. Reggie is so knowledgeable about music and film history. We had fun! It was great to connect with some very special Walker’s women this past year.” Barklie Eliot writes, “I was able

to meet up with several classmates in Rockport, MA. this September. The weather was a bit turbulent, with post-Dorian rain and wind, but we had a great time in the Airbnb and made sure to enjoy some local seafood (my lobster of the year!) and get some exercise and culture. Thanks again to everyone there who planned (especially Karen Brooks and Victoria “Tori” Reeve Spaulding), cooked, transported, etc. As always, sharing experiences from all different parts of the country and life situations gave me a powerful sense of the diversity but also the connection we have, personally and as a nation. “On the home front, this was a big year, as my daughter married in June. The service was on the island of Santorini in Greece, which was a great location for what amounted to a wonderful family reunion. We all convened for an evening wedding and dinner followed by lots of dancing — including traditional Greek dancing. The next day, we went around the island in a Catamaran and just relaxed. In addition to the wedding, my full retirement also made this year a standout. Having

decelerated from full-time work by degrees, I found it much easier than I had thought (and found it possible to attend the September get-together; something I never would have been able to do while teaching). Now I’m volunteering weekly at Audubon, doing my bit to help preserve the planet by raising and distributing trees for free in my county. Best wishes to everyone for good health and a Happy New Year!”

son, Adam’s, wedding in June 2018 was the big news of that year. We love his wife, Robin, who is a writer and works in the communications department at the Fieldston School. Adam loves his job at Hodinkee, a website/community for watch connoisseurs, and they are enjoying life on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

“Our daughter, Hannah, lives and works in Barcelona. Her day-job is working freelance as a localization translator for companies (she works on their websites, presentations, advertising), but her real love is stand-up comedy. She mostly works in English, but she has performed in Spanish and Catalan. “Sadly, my dad died in May 2019 at the age of 88. We are happy that he was able to be at Adam’s wedding the year before. Mom is adjusting to her new normal after being married for 63 years. She recently donated a collection of art books, featuring African art books collected during and after their six years living in Liberia and Nigeria from 1959 – 1965, to the Bell Library at Walker’s. “2019 found me job hunting again! I had left my position at Barnard College after nine years to work at the Hewitt School as the executive assistant to the head of the school, but it was not a good fit for me. I found a much better job at Horace Mann Nursery Division in Manhattan, where I’ve been since April 1, 2019. I continue to serve on the Executive Committee of the Friends of the Smith College Libraries and started a three-year term on the EWS Alumnae Board in July. It is such an honor to be able to work with Walker’s alumnae from different decades on behalf of our alma mater and to get to know current students, staff and faculty.”

“I had the most wonderful experience,” Mary Derbyshire Petty writes. “I went back to Walker’s in December, right before exams, to teach the students, faculty and staff about ways to reduce stress and anxiety through mindfulness and the Alexander Technique. After our 40th reunion, I was thinking about ways that I could give back to Walker’s and I mentioned to Meera that this was something that I could do. One of the cornerstones of the Alexander Technique is rest, and we do this by lying on the floor in a semi-supine position with our heads resting on a pile of books. To my amazement, in just a few minutes I had the entire school lying down in this position in the new basketball courts. It was wonderful. You could hear a pin drop. I also taught three classes to smaller groups. I had a blast and loved working with the girls. “When I spoke with Marion Paterson P’17, ’19, Director of Alumnae Relations, she said that Walker’s is really hoping that more alums will engage in just this way. So, I am using this opportunity to

encourage my classmates to share their knowledge. The students are amazing. The school is amazing. Our reunion was amazing. Apart from that, all is well.” Jane Stoner Doonan was

It was such a comfortable way to eat, drink, and mingle with so many friends. What also made the reunion extra special was having classmates who had not been back to the campus since we graduated come ‘home.’ Although the school has gone through a complete metamorphosis, the spirit remains so tangible. And the memories all come flooding back. Hope to see the entire class back for our 45th Reunion in 2024!”

Joanie LeViness Elbourn writes,

“I just read the latest EWS news — it’s always amazing to me to see how things are changing at the school. So modern compared to the ’70s-’80s. Good to hear, too, what everyone is up to. I seldom travel, it seems so many of you all do, but our children are always on the go somewhere. Tommy and I just celebrated 31 years of marriage. We both still work for our local (1/2 mile from our home) Walmart — he for 24 years, me for six. I miss the homeschooling — 20 years of teaching the children was a rare honor. “Our ‘baby,’ Abby Rose, is 19, taking a year off after earning her associate’s degree at age 18. She, too, works at Walmart in order to save money for more schooling. The next youngest, Hannah (21), worked for a few years (guess where?) after finishing homeschool high school three years ago. She is all set for college this fall. Oldest daughter, Claudia, (23) has been a tech writer for IBM since she was 19. Claudia lives in Everett, MA, close enough to visit us regularly. She recently returned from a trip to England, Scotland and Ireland. Eldest child and only son, Tom (25), and his wife, Alisha (married for four years), live with us (as do Hannah and Abby Rose) while working and going to school. Alisha has a B.A. in English Literature and is now finishing a phlebotomy degree while attending college for her dream of becoming a nurse. Tom has a B.A in psychology with a minor in theology, and two master’s degrees: a Master of Divinity and a Masters in Theology. It looks like he will be teaching a few courses at Assumption College in Worcester,

MA this fall — where he got his B.A. three years ago. “We still live on the family farm — in the family since 1905. What a blessing! I am still a homebody, a vegetarian (as are two daughters) and a lover of knowledge and words. I keep in touch with Mrs. Sundquist, someone who greatly influenced my life at EWS. My dear dad and beloved step-dad died in 2016, two weeks apart. I am blessed to have my mom live 1/2 mile from our home! Blessings and grace to you all.”

I am now the yoga and mindfulness coordinator for the Common Street Spiritual Center, Natick, MA, working to increase community engagement through a love-centered approach. It has long been my dream to share yoga and dance with a much wider audience, and the Common Street community is wholly supportive of my dream and has inspired me to dream even bigger than I originally thought possible. The flow of likeminded connections that I have been making is unprecedented, and the opportunities to collaborate are so fulfilling. Stay tuned for Mindful Movement Mondays and a special presentation of Heal & Release/Metro-West, coming soon. I continue my work in schools bringing yoga and mindfulness into sub-separate classrooms and for teachers professional development events and will soon have videos released to share yoga sequences and meditations into the classroom setting.” Corlene “Lynn” Cathcart Rhoades lost her dear mom,

advantage of the holiday break to visit Margaret in Eldoret, Kenya, where she spent five months conducting research on reprocessing methods for aflatoxin-contaminated crops, such as maize and peanuts, as a Boren Fellow. The goal of her research is to ensure a safer, more stable, and economically viable food supply chain in Kenya. You can read (and I highly recommend reading) a full write up from Purdue, where she is currently a grad student.” Visit Purdue.edu and search Margaret Hedwood, Boren Fellow.

Special Tribute It is with sadness that we share news of the death of former English teacher, Mary Reynolds Scouller Nelson, who taught at Walker’s for more than 20 years and was, by many accounts, a positive influence on the education and lives of so many alumnae. Mrs. Nelson passed away on December 2, 2019 just 10 days after her husband, Gordon, died. They were happily married for 69 years and lived in Southwick, MA.
